Mondo Robotics Launches Beni, a Portable Camera Robot Built to Follow, Film, and Play

Mondo Robotics has introduced Beni, its first consumer robot, through a new Kickstarter campaign. Billed as a portable, all-terrain camera robot, Beni is designed to follow users independently, capture video from low and dynamic angles, and bring a bit of personality along for the ride.

The Palo Alto-based robotics company says Beni was created for everyday consumers rather than industrial or commercial settings. Instead of working in the background, the small robot is meant to tag along during active moments, from skatepark tricks and tennis serves to family walks and neighborhood cruises. Think of it as part camera operator, part mobile sidekick, and part tiny stunt performer with a lens.

A Robot Camera for Real-Life Moments

Mondo Robotics positions Beni as a way to capture moments without stopping the action. Setting up a tripod, framing a shot, or asking another person to record can interrupt the very thing someone is trying to capture. Beni aims to solve that by independently tracking users and filming while they stay focused on what they are doing.

A person in sports attire using a smartphone to scroll through an app while a small robotic device is positioned in the background on a tennis court.

The robot supports smart video tracking from different angles, helping users record cinematic-looking movement without needing extra gear. Its onboard camera can shoot in 4K at 30 frames per second, 3K at 60 frames per second, or 1080p at 100 frames per second, all in 16:9 aspect ratios.

For creators, parents, athletes, or anyone who has ever balanced a phone against a water bottle and hoped for the best, Beni offers a more purpose-built option. Tiny robot, fewer awkward phone tripods. That feels like progress.

Built for Movement, Not Just Flat Floors

Beni is designed for outdoor use and action-oriented environments. According to Mondo Robotics, the robot can avoid obstacles, dodge people, hop up stairs, and recover after falling down. It can jump up to 10 inches, flip over, and move at speeds up to 18 mph.

The robot weighs less than 4 pounds, making it portable enough to bring along without treating it like a second carry-on bag. Motion sensing is built in, helping Beni respond as it moves around users and its surroundings.

A person throws a frisbee in a park while a toy robot dog rolls on the grass, and a small fluffy dog runs excitedly towards it.

Those mobility features are a key part of Mondo Robotics’ pitch. Beni is not meant to sit on a desk or roll politely across a kitchen floor. It is meant to chase the action a little, preferably without becoming the action itself.

More Than a Rolling Camera

Mondo Robotics is leaning into Beni’s companion-like qualities, too. The robot can nod and shake its head, react with expressive color-changing eyes, jump, flip, and interact through gaming features. The company describes Beni as something users can learn and grow with, rather than a simple gadget destined for the drawer after the novelty fades.

Shuo Yang, co-founder and CTO of Mondo Robotics, said the company was built around the idea that robots should be beside people, making daily life more fun and enjoyable. Yang holds a PhD from Carnegie Mellon and previously worked as an engineer on Tesla’s Optimus humanoid robot.

Kickstarter Campaign Now Live

Beni is available now through Kickstarter, with the campaign scheduled to run until early August 2026. Mondo Robotics plans to begin wider production after the campaign, with broader availability details expected in September.

The company was founded in 2025 and says its mission is to make robotics more accessible and easy to use for consumers. More details about Beni can be found on the official Mondo Robotics website at https://mondorobotics.com.
