MetroPCS announced the world’s first commercially available 4G LTE Android handset, the Samsung Galaxy Indulge, available later that week at a suggested retail price of $399.99 with no contract required. MetroPCS’s $50 and $60 no-contract rate plans offered unlimited talk, text, and data, making the total cost of ownership competitive even against subsidized devices on traditional carriers.
Specs for the Android 2.2 phone included a 1GHz processor, 3-megapixel camera, slide-out QWERTY keyboard, and 4GB microSD card. The Galaxy Indulge was the second LTE-enabled phone from MetroPCS, following the Samsung Craft introduced in late 2010.
