Govee is taking its smart lighting beyond basic mood lighting with a new collaboration that aims to make TV nights a little more immersive. The company has announced an official partnership with HBO for House of the Dragon Season 3, introducing themed lighting effects and a custom app experience across its TV Backlight lineup.
As HBO’s Official Smart Lighting Partner for the season, Govee will roll out House of the Dragon-inspired lighting scenes and an in-app theme skin that remain available throughout the show’s run.
TV backlights are LED lighting systems designed to mount behind a television. By reacting to the colors displayed on screen in real time, they extend those colors onto the surrounding wall, creating a larger and more immersive viewing experience. It’s essentially a way to let the action spill beyond the edges of the display, without requiring a dragon-sized renovation.
Lighting Inspired by Westeros

The collaboration centers around three themed lighting scenes that draw inspiration from iconic locations and imagery in the series:
- Dracarys, featuring warm amber and ember tones inspired by dragonfire.
- Fire & Blood, which blends crimson and obsidian colors to reflect House Targaryen.
- Green Reign, combining emerald and candlelit gold tones influenced by House Hightower.
Govee has also created a matching House of the Dragon theme for the Govee Home app, giving fans a consistent visual experience while browsing and controlling compatible lighting.
Designed for the Full TV Backlight Lineup
The themed experience will be available across Govee’s TV Backlight 3 family, which includes three models aimed at different types of users.
The entry-level TV Backlight 3 Lite uses the company’s single-camera color detection system, while the standard TV Backlight 3 adds a dual-camera setup designed to improve color tracking during fast-moving scenes. At the top of the lineup, the TV Backlight 3 Pro features a triple-camera HDR system intended to better preserve shadow detail and color range in darker, more cinematic content.

According to Govee, the new TV Backlight 3 also introduces a 4MP dual-camera sensor that captures subtle transitions between light and shadow, a feature the company says is particularly well suited to House of the Dragon’s distinctive visual style.
A Familiar Partnership
This isn’t Govee’s first foray into entertainment-themed smart lighting. The company has previously partnered with Warner Bros. on promotions tied to Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom and Dune: Part Two, using synchronized lighting effects to extend the visual experience beyond the TV screen. The latest collaboration with House of the Dragon continues that strategy, suggesting Govee is building a niche around officially licensed ambient lighting experiences tied to major Warner Bros. Discovery franchises.
Available Throughout Season 3
The collaboration launches alongside Season 3 of House of the Dragon, which premiered June 21 on HBO and streams on HBO Max. The eight-episode season will continue with weekly releases through the season finale on August 9.
Additional information about the collaboration and compatible products can be found on Govee’s official website.
