Google has announced the Fitbit Edge, a new fitness tracker that combines advanced health monitoring, personalized coaching, and smartwatch-style conveniences in a slim, lightweight design. Priced at $179.99, the wearable targets people who want detailed fitness insights without committing to a full-featured smartwatch.
The Fitbit Edge sits between Google’s Pixel Watch lineup and its screenless Fitbit Air, offering a display, physical controls, and a more focused approach to everyday health tracking.
A Slimmer Design With a Bigger Display

The Fitbit Edge features an aluminum case measuring just 11.5mm thick, with a design that follows the natural curve of the wrist. Google says the case is 45% lighter than the Apple Watch Series 12, making it particularly appealing for overnight wear.
Its new Hybrid OLED display offers 46% more viewing area than previous Fitbit trackers, with improved brightness for outdoor visibility. A redesigned physical side button provides tactile feedback for quickly accessing controls, including pausing workouts.
The updated interface borrows ideas from the Pixel Watch 5, incorporating customizable watch faces, glanceable tiles, and quick access to health metrics. Users can check notifications, control media playback, and access Google Maps directly from their wrists.
More Accurate Workouts and Automatic Tracking

Google has expanded the Fitbit Edge’s exercise capabilities with support for more than 50 manually selectable workout modes and automatic recognition of up to 100 activities.
Runners can monitor pace targets and splits, strength and HIIT enthusiasts can follow heart rate zones, and other athletes can access exercise-specific metrics without repeatedly reaching for their phones.
Built-in GPS promises up to 40% better tracking accuracy compared to previous generations, according to Google. An integrated altimeter measures elevation changes during activities such as hiking, running, and stair workouts.
The combination should appeal to fitness enthusiasts who want accurate workout information without carrying their smartphones everywhere.
Advanced Health Monitoring and AI Coaching

Health tracking is another major focus of the Fitbit Edge.
Google’s Health Guardian features monitor blood pressure trends, insulin resistance trends, and unusually high or low heart rates. These measurements are intended for general wellness rather than medical diagnosis, and availability varies by region.
The tracker includes an on-wrist ECG app, continuous optical heart rate monitoring, and a dedicated skin temperature sensor. Sleep stage analysis and heart rate variability measurements contribute to daily recovery insights.
Google Health Coach brings personalized guidance into the experience, helping users interpret health patterns and adjust fitness plans. Access requires a separately sold Google Health Premium subscription.
Seven Days of Battery Life and a Repairable Design

Google rates the Fitbit Edge for up to seven days of battery life, based on its preproduction testing under specified Battery Saver conditions. Actual endurance will vary with features and usage.
Fast magnetic charging can provide a day’s worth of battery life in five minutes under Google’s stated testing conditions.
The Fitbit Edge carries 5 ATM and IP68 water and dust resistance ratings. It is Google’s first repairable fitness tracker, featuring a modular internal design and replaceable battery intended to extend its usable life.
Colors, Pricing, and Availability

Four standard finishes are available: Obsidian, Fog, Olive, and Canyon. Google offers interchangeable Active Sport, Magnet, and Metal Links bands, with a Performance Loop option coming later.
A $219.99 Stephen Curry Special Edition, developed alongside the NBA star, features moisture-wicking materials and distinctive orange accents.
The standard Fitbit Edge costs $179.99 and is available for preorder through the Google Store and retail partners, with in-store availability beginning October 27, 2026.
The tracker supports Android 11 or newer and iOS 16.4 or newer, and requires the Google Health app and a Google Account.
Purchases include three months of Google Health Premium, giving buyers an opportunity to try the personalized coaching features before deciding on a paid subscription.
