I had a chance to sit down and spend a few minutes playing with the HTC EVO at CTIA. Previously touted as the Supersonic, the phone had rather lofty expectations to live up to. It delivered.
Right off the bat, my first impression was that the phone had a substantial weight to it. Although not too heavy, it feels like you have a quality phone in your hand. The form factor on display was noted as not final, nor was the OS build, though it seemed close given the polished accessories already in sight. The dock shown at the event featured HDMI output.
We watched a few movie trailers play in HD on both the EVO and on an 85-inch television via HDMI connection. Stunning. At 4.3 inches, it’s easy to picture catching up on TV shows or movies on this screen.
The camera couldn’t be fully tested due to lighting conditions, but a peek at existing shots on the device confirmed the quality. At 8 megapixels, the EVO had the best Android camera on the market at the time.
Pairing 4G with a front-facing camera opens up all kinds of possibilities. The EVO also functions as a 4G hotspot for up to 8 devices, which at the time felt almost too good to be true.
