Mecool MEon1 4K UHD Streaming Box Review

Mecool MEon1 4K UHD Streaming Box Review

Mecool is back with its latest release, the Mecool MEon1. While it might look like your standard black streaming box, this model packs some of the newest hardware on the market, including a brand-new Amlogic chipset and full Google certification. If you’ve been looking for a dedicated streaming device that runs the latest version of Android without breaking the bank, the MEon1 is a strong contender.

Design and Build

The MEon1 features a classic, compact plastic outer shell with clean Mecool branding. Around the back and sides, you’ll find a healthy array of ports: HDMI 2.1, an Ethernet LAN port, optical audio, an AV port, two USB 2.0 ports, and a microSD card slot.

The front includes LED lights for power and activity that are designed to be dim enough not to distract you in a dark room. The included Bluetooth voice remote (G21) is a standout, featuring Google Assistant and clever tactile nubs that help you find the right buttons in the dark.

The Mecool MEon1 skips the usual bargain-bin Android TV headaches and delivers something far more useful: a properly certified Google TV streamer with fast Wi-Fi 6 performance, smooth 4K playback, and a surprisingly polished day-to-day experience for the price.

Hardware and Performance

The real story is the silicon. The MEon1 is built on the Amlogic S905X5M-J quad-core processor, which delivers snappy performance for a smooth 4K user interface. Despite the lack of physical ventilation holes on the base, the device runs impressively cool, staying at comfortable temperatures even when pushed.

However, there are a few “budget” trade-offs:

  • Memory: It comes with 2GB of RAM and 32GB of internal storage, which is standard for this price bracket.
  • Architecture: The system is configured in 32-bit mode, which means it focuses on standard streaming apps rather than high-performance 64-bit gaming.

The Google TV Experience & Streaming

Using the MEon1 is a smooth, user-friendly experience thanks to the Google TV interface running on Android 14. Right from the home screen, you’ll see a clean layout that automatically populates with movie and TV show recommendations from your favorite apps. Because this is a fully certified Google device, you get the “official” experience without any of the workarounds often required by cheaper, uncertified boxes.

When it comes to actually watching content, the MEon1 has you covered for all the major players. You can stream Netflix, Disney+, Prime Video, Apple TV, and Max in full 4K resolution with vibrant picture quality. Searching for your next binge-watch is as simple as talking to the remote using Google Assistant, which can also handle basic commands like checking the weather or adjusting the volume. Additionally, the built-in Chromecast makes it effortless to beam photos or videos from your phone directly to your TV.

Connectivity

Connectivity is a bit of a mixed bag. On the plus side, you get modern Wi-Fi 6 technology, which provides excellent wireless speeds for high-quality streaming. However, the physical Ethernet port is not Gigabit, capping out at 100 Mbps. For most users, the fast Wi-Fi will be the better way to connect.

Pros:

  • Official Google and Netflix 4K certification.
  • Latest Amlogic chipset runs fast and remarkably cool.
  • Android 14 with the modern, content-focused Google TV interface.
  • Strong Wi-Fi 6 performance for buffer-free streaming.

Cons:

  • Limited to 2GB of RAM, which may slow down heavy multitasking.
  • Ethernet port is limited to 100 Mbps.
  • 32-bit configuration limits some high-end app compatibility.

Final Verdict

Awarded to products with an average rating of 3.75 stars or higher, the AndroidGuys Smart Pick recognizes a balance of quality, performance, and value.

Products with this distinction deserve to be on your short list of purchase candidates.

The Mecool MEon1 is a solid, competitively priced entry into the certified Android TV space. It’s an excellent choice for users who prioritize official streaming certifications and the modern Google TV interface. While the 2GB of RAM and 100Mbps Ethernet are small limitations, the cool-running chip and great Wi-Fi performance make it a fantastic value for a primary streaming device.

You can snag the Mecool MEon1 for just $120 from the company’s website below.
