Nexar One Review

Nexar One Review

The Nexar One dash cam represents the cutting edge in automotive technology, merging high-definition video capture with advanced connectivity features. If you value clarity and comprehensive coverage in a dash cam, the Nexar One offers 4K video resolution and remote streaming capabilities.

Leveraging a Sony Starvis image sensor and an Ambarella AI-capable chipset, the Nexar One sets a new benchmark in the dash cam industry. It’s designed to offer unparalleled video quality, even in low-light conditions, surpassing previous models that capped at 1080p resolution.

Unboxing and Hardware

Nexar’s packaging is very well done, simple, and smart. It pays close attention to detail, even with the camera’s hardware, which shows off Nexar’s most advanced technology yet. The modular design makes it easy to customize with extra modules for connecting to other devices and recording the inside of the car, which is great for rideshare drivers or parents of young drivers.

One aspect that I liked quite a bit was that each piece inside of the box was labeled with its role. For instance, the Installation Tool said, “I tuck cables along windshields and doors” with the Installation Clips advising, “I keep your cables organized.”

The power adapter uses strong magnets and 3M tape for a firm windshield mount. Despite the absence of a physical manual, the Nexar app guides through setup and offers valuable settings adjustments, including video quality and storage management.

Customization and Installation

Nexar One offers different options for storage, camera views, and power sources—either a hardwiring kit or an OBD kit for continuous power. This ensures your dash cam is always ready to record, with features like remote streaming, live alerts, and live tracking on demand.

The adhesive mount makes installation easy, letting me attach it to my windshield effortlessly. The camera’s sleek design blends well with my car, ensuring it doesn’t block my view while driving.

Installation is easy, as the package includes everything needed for a smooth setup. The Nexar app provides a clear guide, making it accessible for anyone to get their Nexar One up and running.

The Nexar App

The Nexar app has a number of great features and from what I gather, keeps getting better. You can adjust the video quality, watch live video remotely, and use parking mode to record any impacts while your car is parked. There’s also a new speed detection feature that adds your speed to videos, which can be helpful as evidence if needed.

Emergency Alerts is another important feature. You can choose emergency contacts who will get an SMS if there’s an accident. This, along with being able to instantly watch and share videos in the Nexar app, makes driving safer and gives you peace of mind.

Technical Specifications

  • Sensors: High-quality CMOS sensors for both road-view and cabin-view, providing clear footage day and night.
  • Resolution: 4K for road-view and 720p HD for cabin-view, with infrared night vision.
  • Field of View: Broad angles for comprehensive coverage.
  • Frame Rate: Adaptive 25-30 FPS, ensuring smooth footage.
  • Connectivity: Wi-Fi and Bluetooth support, along with GPS for accurate location tracking.

Design and Features

The Nexar One has a modular design held together by magnets. Connecting the in-cabin camera modules is easy, but the device becomes bulkier with all the modules attached.

One great thing about the Nexar One is its excellent video quality. It records in 1080p, capturing clear details on the road. The wide-angle lens is a game-changer, reducing blind spots and capturing more of what happens around my vehicle, which is crucial for evidence in any driving incident.

The Nexar One stands out because of its advanced features such as GPS tracking and cloud storage. The GPS feature provides valuable information about my vehicle’s location and speed, enhancing my driving data. Cloud storage automatically saves my video footage online, which I can easily access through the Nexar app on my smartphone.

The dash cam’s smart incident detection system is very impressive. It uses sensors to identify important driving events like sharp turns, sudden stops, or collisions, and saves these incidents automatically. This feature is crucial as it provides strong evidence for insurance claims and legal matters if needed.

The Nexar app enhances the overall experience, making it easy to review footage, monitor my trips, and share clips with others. Its user-friendly interface ensures that navigating through the app and adjusting the camera settings is straightforward and hassle-free.

To really leverage your dash cam you’ll want to sign up for the Nexar Connect service. Nexar Connect is a subscription service that enhances the capabilities of the Nexar One dash cam, offering features such as live streaming, remote video access, vehicle tracking, and real-time emergency alerts.

This service is designed to provide users with additional peace of mind by allowing them to stay connected with their vehicle and its surroundings, ensuring security and safety through advanced technology.

Digging a little deeper, live alerts feature offers real-time notifications for various incidents, enhancing vehicle safety and security. This could include alerts for potential security breaches while the vehicle is parked or immediate notifications in the event of an accident, helping to keep drivers informed and their vehicles secure.

Vehicle tracking feature lets users monitor their vehicle’s location in real-time, providing peace of mind by enhancing security and convenience. It is particularly useful for keeping tabs on your vehicle’s whereabouts, whether to track it in case of theft or simply to remember where you’ve parked.

Highlights and Considerations

  • Pros: Sleek design with modular flexibility, included OBD power cable, and the option for live streaming.
  • Cons: Lack of a removable SD card complicates video management, and the app-centric operation may not suit those using wireless car systems.

The Nexar One is a nice leap forward for dash cams, offering a blend of high-tech features and user-friendly design. It stands out as an essential tool for professional drivers, car enthusiasts, and those focused on vehicle security. With ongoing updates and improvements, Nexar One aims to adapt and grow, ensuring your investment continues to deliver value over time.

Awarded to products with an average rating of 3.75 stars or higher, the AndroidGuys Smart Pick recognizes a balance of quality, performance, and value.

Products with this distinction deserve to be on your short list of purchase candidates.

Concluding Thoughts

The Nexar One dash cam is designed for drivers who want advanced safety and security features in their vehicle. It’s perfect for people who value high-quality video recording, real-time incident alerts, and the convenience of monitoring their vehicle remotely.

It’s great for individuals who want extra peace of mind while parking or driving. It’s especially appealing to tech-savvy users who like being able to integrate their vehicle’s security system with their smartphones for live updates and access to footage.

The Nexar One dash cam offers innovative features with its modular design and built-in memory, appealing for monitoring and live streaming purposes. However, the absence of a removable storage option and the potential conflict with wireless vehicle systems can be drawbacks.

With a starting price of $329.95 for the base model, the Nexar One is an investment in driving safety and convenience, albeit with some trade-offs in user experience.
