Why Telegram Is Becoming The Hub For Mobile Crypto Gaming

Telegram was founded in 2013. Its popularity grew as users of other messaging services became increasingly concerned over security and privacy issues. By the end of 2024, the app had approximately 1 billion users and it continues to see increased use.

It still trails WhatsApp for sheer user numbers, but Telegram is becoming more of a super app than a simple messaging app, giving users the ability to add apps within the app. It already has cryptocurrency integrated into the platform, as well as a decent roster of Telegram games.

Telegram Gaming

Another feature of Telegram is the ability to install third-party apps, including games. Some online casinos offer in-app bots that enable players to play a variety of popular casino games like crypto blackjack via Telegram.

Telegram already has cryptocurrency integration, which enables players to deposit and withdraw cash using Bitcoin and other major cryptos. Blockchain’s use to develop Telegram also makes it the ideal platform for NFT-based trading and battling games.

These games mimic a lot of the features and functionality of popular trading card games like Pokemon and Magic: The Gathering, but with the added benefit that NFTs are digital collectibles that carry real-world value. Players can buy and sell the cards they need while being able to store them on the platform they play on.

Enhanced Privacy And Security

Telegram enjoyed early success thanks to its simple design and intuitive interface. It has continued to add new users and increase its user base thanks, in part, to its high levels of security and privacy, but also in part due to increased privacy concerns from WhatsApp and Instagram users. These individuals have gone looking for alternative platforms to use as details of WhatsApp’s data collection practices and its vulnerability to malware exploits.

Users do need to manage their security settings to ensure they enjoy the most secure experience, but Telegram offers two-factor authentication and it provides end-to-end encryption for secret chats. While some messaging apps are considered to be politically swayed, users believe this is less likely with Telegram.

Instant Play Games

Telegram games work directly from the Telegram app. As such, they do not need to be installed on the user’s device. One of the benefits of this is that games are instant play. Players don’t even need to close the Telegram app and open another app to get started.

It also means less hard drive or storage space is required. While flagship and expensive mobile devices can include substantial storage space, not everybody has the latest Samsung Galaxy or Apple iPhone models, which means storage space can be limited.

Installing dozens of games quickly clogs up mobile phone hard drives, causing phones to run sluggishly, apps to open slowly, and potentially leading to apps and games interacting with one another and causing crashes and other software problems.

Responsiveness

Telegram games are designed to be lightweight enough that they can run in the app. Developers know that players are going to be running games on cell phones and other mobile devices, and they optimize them accordingly. The app itself is also considered quick, and it offers lightning-fast messaging: this is considered especially impressive when you factor in the inclusion of a crypto wallet and other features.

The games themselves are not installed on the user’s device but via Telegram. Any updates are rolled out via Telegram, too, which means no checking for and downloading updates or installing recent versions. This also means that devices don’t run slowly while automatic updates run or while games are updating the latest security patches.

Simple Interface

One of the reasons that Telegram gained so much popularity so early in its development was its simplistic design. Even as Telegram has added more features and internal apps, it has retained its simple interface. Users aren’t overwhelmed when they start the app but they can access their games and other app features without having to dig through layer upon layer of menus.

Once you have a few games installed on a mobile device, it can be difficult to remember what they’re called, never mind where they are and whether they are played through another platform. While messaging apps are generally designed to be easy to use, this isn’t necessarily true of gaming platforms and other mobile device software.

Simple To Use

Most Telegram games are best described as screen tappers. These are the most popular forms of mobile games because they can naturally be played using nothing more than a mobile device. The games themselves are easy to learn and developers come up with intuitive but innovative ways to offer in-game controls.

There’s no need to use external controllers. Typically, you don’t even need to try and use the on-screen joystick that some games rely on.  Overall, Telegram games are simple to get to grips with, especially compared to the potentially baffling array of controls and keys needed to play PC games. You don’t even need to be able to hook the mobile device up to a TV, like you do with a game console.

Cryptocurrency Integration

Telegram creator Durov also created The Open Network (TON), which is a layer-1 blockchain network. Telegram now uses TON for various elements of its infrastructure. It is used for mini apps and telegram stars, and the app primarily offers the use of TON coin, which is the native coin of the network.

Although there were originally plans to use TON to launch a cryptocurrency, this was prevented by the SEC and plans were shelved. With the SEC under new stewardship and Trump’s alleged crypto-friendly stance, this may change. However, Telegram may opt not to challenge the current status quo of a partnership that has attracted a billion members.

Another way blockchain is heavily entrenched in the Telegram platform is through the offering of an integrated cryptocurrency wallet, called the Telegram Wallet. The wallet can be used to store, send, and receive cryptocurrencies including TON as well as BTC. Cryptocurrency is popular with casino websites, other gambling websites, and a host of online games like Hamster Kombat.

Natural Community Building

Telegram is a messaging app that offers additional features. It can be used for text, audio, and video chat, and these communication features, along with the app’s other features mean that it naturally offers an efficient and effective means of developing a community.

Games, especially competitive and multiplayer games, benefit from developing communities of keen players because it encourages competition and gets people to log on and play more often. Other community features include polls, quizzes, noticeboards, and more.

Tech-Savvy Users

Telegram is generally favored by a relatively young and tech-savvy crowd, which is the same crowd that is more likely to understand blockchain, use cryptocurrency, and play Telegram games.

However, with a billion users, the app’s popularity is clearly spreading to other demographics, and the range of Telegram games available means that it appeals to players of all types of games, from simple crypto dice games to more advanced strategy games.
