OnePlus introduces new affordable smartphone with minor upgrades

OnePlus has refreshed its budget-range Nord lineup with the launch of the OnePlus Nord CE 4 Lite 5G smartphone. The smartphone brings minor upgrades over the OnePlus Nord CE 3 Lite predecessor including a bigger battery, faster charging, and a new display. Let’s take a look at the detailed specifications, pricing, and availability. 

OnePlus finally ditched an LCD panel from the previous generation Nord smartphones with an immersive AMOLED one. OnePlus Nord CE 4 Lite has a stunning 6.67-inch FHD+ (2,400 x 1,080px) AMOLED display with 120Hz refresh rate support, ensuring a buttery smooth scrolling experience.  

There is no upgrade in the processor, the OnePlus Nord CE 4 Lite still features the same Qualcomm Snapdragon 695 processor that was used on the last two generations of the Nord CE Lite smartphone- the Nord CE 3 Lite and Nord CE 2 Lite. It packs up to 8GB of LPDDR4X RAM and up to 256GB of UFS 2.2 storage which is further expandable via microSD card. 

The device runs on Oxygen OS 14 based on Android 14 out of the box. OnePlus promises two major Android updates (up to Android 16) and three years of security patches for the Nord CE 4 Lite. It boasts a massive 5,500mAh battery with 80W fast wired and 5W reverse wired charging support. 

Speaking about cameras, the Nord CE 4 Lite features a 50MP Sony LYT-600 primary sensor with OIS support coupled with two useless spec-filler 2MP depth and macro cameras. There is a 16MP shooter on the front for capturing selfies and video chats. 

OnePlus Nord CE 4 Lite is priced at Rs 19,999 (~$240) for the base 8GB + 128GB variant, while the 8GB + 256GB variant retails at Rs 22,999 (~$275/ ­­£299). It comes in three beautiful color options – Super Silver, Mega Blue, and Ultra Orange, which is going to be India-exclusive. The smartphone is up for pre-order in the EU, with open sales beginning July 2024.

The world leader in lighting, Philips has unveiled a brand-new sunrise lamp – the Twilight. Philips also introduced several other new smart home lighting products including new decorative Lightguide bulbs, the Datura ceiling light, and a solo light strip along with a sunrise lamp. 

Philips Hue’s new smart Twilight lamp is designed to improve your regular sleep and wake-up routines. Twilight comes with two individually controllable light sources, featuring ColorCast technology which mimics the wide palette of colors in both morning and evening skylights. 

Philips incorporated a stylish and compact design for the Twilight which easily fits into any bedside table. It has two customizable buttons with six different light scenes which lets you control light directly from your bed. There is a dedicated button that triggers the sleep routine and prepares you for bed by dimming the light with red tones to 0.5% brightness. 

The Twilight lamp has two different light sources such as the illumination head and the backlight, which can be controlled individually. Other features of the Twilight lamp include setting a wake-up automation which gradually brightens so you gently awaken to the colors of the morning sun and  Ultra-low dimming which enables smooth transitions for an effective wake-up and the perfect nightlight. Moreover, it comes with companion app support which brings several advanced features.

The Philips Hue Twilight retails at $280 and comes in two cool Black and White color options. The light is now available for purchase via Philips Hue’s official website.

Additionally, Philips Hue introduced four new Philips Hue Lightguide bulbs available in five different shapes: triangle, ellipse, Edison, large globe, and small globe. Philips Hue also unveiled an affordable light strip with three different sizes: 10 feet for $69.98, 16 feet for $89.99, and 33 feet for $159.99. 

Lastly, Philips Hue brings a new frameless ceiling light – the Datura, available in 15-inch and 22.6-inch sizes, retails at $299.99 and $399.99, respectively. However, it won’t be available until September 10.

An emerging player in the smart wearable market, Circular has unveiled its latest health and fitness tracking smart ring – Ring Slim. Launched as a successor to the 2023 Ring Slim brings a solid build and several new software features. However, in terms of design, the latest ring doesn’t look very different from its predecessor. 

Looking at its features, the Ring Slim seems very promising, particularly in the increasingly competitive smart ring market. However, don’t forget that there are also big competitors in the smart ring domain such as well-known smart ring maker Oura and Samsung’s upcoming Galaxy Ring is sure to give tough competition to Ring Slim. 

Circular’s ring is becoming better with each iteration, the upgraded hardware and improved app for sports and performance tracking offer a comprehensive overview of your physical exertion and progress. 

Let’s start with the design, the new Ring Slim features a very similar design to its predecessor but with a more durable build, measures 2.5mm thick, and weighs just 2 grams, making it the thinnest and lightest smart ring available on the market. It has a scratch-resistant coating, protecting it from accidental scratches. Circular also integrated a full IP68 rating for water and dust resistance. 

The Ring Slim has advanced health-tracking features such as heart rate monitoring, enhanced sleep tracking, SpO2, temperature, and breathing rate monitoring. Circular claims that the new algorithm delivers a 79% accuracy against Polysomnography tests. The new heart-tracking algorithm now also provides real-time metrics during sports activities. This new feature is coupled with GPS tracking for routes, offering a detailed overview of the tracked health data.

Circular also packed an Advanced Analysis Circle feature to the Ring Slim, which allows users to compare all their health and wellness data in a single, intuitive graph. This powerful feature will help users identify trends, monitor improvements, and make informed decisions about their health journey, according to Circular.

Realme finally making a comeback of its signature GT series smartphones to global markets by launching an all-new flagship GT 6 smartphone. To recall, Realme launched the GT 6T a budget-friendly smartphone in the last month. Today, the company finally took the wraps off the new member of the GT 6 series – the Realme GT 6. Let’s take a look at the detailed specs and availability.

Let’s start with the display, Realme GT 6 features a 6.78-inch 2780 x 1264px AMOLED Hyper display with 120Hz refresh rate support, ensuring a buttery smooth scrolling experience. The phone has a massive 6000 nits of peak brightness, which the company says is the brightest display on a phone yet. It has a Gorilla Glass Victus 2 protection top, protecting it from accidental falls and scratches.

Under the hood, the Realme GT 6 is powered by Qualcomm’s latest Snapdragon 8s Gen 3 processor (which is a slightly weaker version of the original Snapdragon 8 gen 3 SoC) coupled with Adreno 715 GPU, up to 16GB of RAM, and up to 512GB of internal storage. It runs on Realme UI 5.0 based on Android 14 out of the box.

Realme GT 6 is priced at ­€600 ($645 / Rs 40,999) for the base 8GB/256GB storage, while the 12GB/256GB variant starts at €700 ($750/ Rs 42,999), and the high-end 16GB/512GB variant retails at €800 ($858 / Rs44,999). The GT 6 is now available for purchase in Europe and India markets.
