With its pretty design elements, the RedMagic Nova is an ultra-luxury and premium offering. On the front, it’s undoubtedly understated; the screen and uniform bezel are simply dominating the field, but the back of the phone’s anodized aluminum unibody shell makes a much bigger statement. But this material makes the look and feel of the tablet look luxurious and stylish and more durable and premium. The best feature is the lens-grade glass section on the back that is unlike anything you’ve ever seen and shows you both the internal fan and the supporting hardware in this unique, high-tech way. The Nova bristles with gaming flare such as its glowing, customizable RGB logo that can be used for notifications or sync with music and lighting the fan above. At 6.48 by 9.97 by 0.29 inches and 1.17 pounds, it feels compact but dense, and it feels satisfying to hold. The thoughtful design continues with the locations of the ergonomically placed buttons and ports: there is a power button/fingerprint sensor that neatly hides down a divot for comfort and a USB-C port for fast transfer of data. While the Nova offers a premium design, it isn’t IP-rated like the Galaxy Tab S9 FE+, which is ultimately dust and water-resistant. Rapid Charging and Quickly Draining Battery

A generous 10,100mAh battery on the RedMagic Nova charges up to 80W using the included charger. Though it boasts a lot of power, Nova’s battery life during our test, which streamed a 1080p video constantly over Wi-Fi at full brightness, ran down to 5 hours and 55 minutes, a full hour and 40 minutes shorter than the Galaxy Tab S9 FE+’s 7 hours and 23 minutes. But the Nova makes up for it with fast charging speeds, as it takes one hour to achieve a full charge, and you get TurboCharge, which charges fast but produces more heat. The battery tops out at 36% after a 15-minute charge and 65% after a 30-minute charge. It also has a Charge Separation feature, which means the Nova can be powered by AC power without charging the battery, lowering heat, improving performance, and cutting gaming sessions down to size.

Surprisingly Rich Audio

One of the biggest surprises with the RedMagic Nova is the unexpectedly detailed and rich sound from its quad-speaker array using DTS-X Ultra Sound and 3D audio (which switched itself on for best sound quality). When DTS is turned off, the audio is noticeably thin and tinny, although you see the enhanced performance with the feature powered on. The lowest bass notes get faint on tests with songs, but standard bass tones sound fine as usual. You can bring Metallica’s “Enter Sandman” to a whopping 89.4dB and fill up a small room with sound. There is no 3.5mm headphone jack, which can disappoint some players. 

Sufficiently Capable Cameras

Its cameras provide a good enough performance for a camera or a tablet. There is a 50MP primary camera at the back and a 20MP selfie camera up front, which takes good photos. The primary camera captures a whooping 12.5MP image by default through pixel binning for brightening and making blacks pop more. For anyone looking for more detail, ample 50MP full-resolution images are available; however, they do look very overbrightened. Neither set is accurate in terms of color, but the images produced are pleasing to tablet photography. Usually, the 20MP rear camera takes overly bright photos with soft details and does not even support a ‘portrait’ mode to add bokeh effects. The rear camera can record at 4K60, which performs better outdoors than indoors, and the front camera offers 30fps while recording in 1080p, which meets your needs for video conferencing.

A Plethora of Gaming Features

On the software side, the RedMagic Nova is focused on gaming enhancements with Android 14 on top of the RedMagic Space 9.5 player interface. RedMagic has created a custom UI that reshapes the Android experience, and the Game Space is RedMagic’s game hub, which allows you to set up game settings. The game space comes with full customization from the CPU and GPU optimization and fan control to touch sensitivity. Players can overlay crosshairs for precision in first-person shooters, and it even manages to do it. CPU and GPU speed are shown through the software’s quick access menu for in-game adjustments, with easy volume and brightness sliders. RedMagic promises its device will receive updates with support in two years, but it’s relatively weak update support sold compared to Samsung’s extended support on the Galaxy Tab S9 FE+. Productivity features are frustratingly limited outside gaming: you can tile two apps and run a third in a popover window, but nothing like Samsung’s multi-app display or DeX desktop-like experience.
