Targus has introduced the DOCK402TT USB-C Alt. Mode Single Video 8K Mobile Dock, a compact connectivity solution that combines laptop charging, external display support, high-speed data transfer, and wired networking in one travel-friendly device.
Announced on October 27, 2026, the new mobile dock is designed for professionals who work across different locations and want to reduce the number of accessories they carry. Its built-in gallium nitride (GaN) charger delivers up to 140 watts of power to compatible laptops and connected peripherals, while an HDMI port supports a single external display at resolutions up to 8K at 30Hz.
According to Targus, the DOCK402TT is designed to simplify mobile work by bringing essential charging and connectivity features together in a single device.
Built-In 140W GaN Charging Reduces Travel Gear
One of the main features of the Targus DOCK402TT is its integrated GaN charger, which provides up to 140W of power to a compatible laptop and connected peripherals.
GaN technology is commonly used in compact power electronics, helping manufacturers develop charging solutions that deliver substantial power without requiring bulky designs. By integrating the charger into the dock, Targus aims to eliminate the need for users to carry a separate docking station and laptop charger.
David Dorantes, director of product marketing at Targus, said mobile professionals should not have to carry separate devices to maintain productivity away from their regular workspaces.
He explained that the DOCK402TT combines power and connectivity in one travel-ready product, reducing the equipment users need to pack and manage.
The actual charging performance will depend on the connected laptop, its power requirements, and the devices attached to the dock.
HDMI Output Supports Up to 8K Resolution
The DOCK402TT includes an HDMI port that supports one external display at resolutions up to 8K at 30Hz, giving compatible users the option to connect their laptops to a high-resolution monitor or display.
This feature could appeal to professionals who need a larger workspace for presentations, document editing, media viewing, and other productivity tasks.
However, achieving the advertised resolution and refresh rate depends on the capabilities of the connected computer, display, and supported video output configuration.
The dock is designed for single-display output, making it different from Targus models that support multiple external displays.
Three High-Speed USB Ports for Peripherals
For connecting accessories and transferring files, the DOCK402TT offers two USB 3.2 Gen 2 Type-A ports and one USB 3.2 Gen 2 Type-C port.
Each of these ports supports data transfer speeds of up to 10Gbps, according to Targus. Users can connect compatible peripherals such as external storage devices and other USB accessories.
The combination of Type-A and Type-C connections provides flexibility for users working with a mix of older and newer devices.
The dock also includes 1Gbps Ethernet for wired network connectivity. This can be useful in offices, hotels, and other work environments where a wired connection is preferred for consistent network access.
Broad Compatibility Without Additional Software
Targus says the DOCK402TT works with compatible devices running Windows, macOS, iPadOS, Android, ChromeOS, and Linux.
The dock does not require additional software installation, allowing users to connect supported devices and access its available features without setting up a dedicated application.
This cross-platform approach could make the product useful for people who switch between different computers, tablets, or operating systems during their workday.
Compatibility with particular charging, display, and connectivity features may still depend on the host device’s USB-C capabilities and specifications.
Recycled Materials Support Targus EcoSmart Design
Beyond connectivity, the DOCK402TT incorporates Targus’ EcoSmart design approach. The company says the dock is manufactured using up to 75 percent post-consumer recycled aluminum and plastic.
The use of recycled materials is intended to help reduce reliance on newly produced materials while maintaining the product’s functionality and durability.
The DOCK402TT joins Targus’ expanding range of mobile docking products, which includes the DOCK403, DOCK427, and DOCK429. These models offer different combinations of display support, power delivery, ports, and connectivity for different mobile work requirements.
Targus’ broader lineup includes USB-C and USB4 options, allowing users to choose a dock according to their devices and preferred workflow.
