Over-ear noise-canceling headphones with premium features used to require premium prices. The HAYLOU S40 at $55 is the latest example of how thoroughly that’s changed. HAYLOU has packed 50dB hybrid ANC, LDAC support, dual titanium-coated drivers, 360-degree spatial audio with head tracking, and 90 hours of battery life (without ANC) into a foldable over-ear headphone that costs less than most single-driver earbuds with ANC.
Design & Build Quality
The S40 uses a classic closed-back over-ear form factor with a telescoping headband, multi-axis earcup rotation, and a matte plastic exterior. It folds compactly for travel, though no carrying bag is included. The headband has a metal support plate internally, providing structural stability despite the lightweight feel. Soft protein leather earcups are deep and wide, distributing pressure well across the ear and allowing extended wear without fatigue.

All physical controls and connections are on the right earcup: dedicated power and ANC buttons, a dual volume rocker, LED indicator, USB-C charging port, and an external microphone jack for the included detachable mic. The build feels solid for the price, with no flex in the headband or earcup connections during typical use. No water resistance is listed.
Audio Quality
The S40 uses a dual-driver configuration: a 40mm titanium-coated primary driver paired with a 20mm titanium-coated tweeter. The combination produces a warmer-than-neutral sound with a slightly elevated low end and solid midrange presence. Treble is present without being fatiguing under the default tuning, and the custom EQ in the Haylou Sound app provides genuine room for adjustment.
LDAC support on Android enables up to 990kbps wireless transmission, unlocking 24-bit/96kHz audio reproduction. Hi-Res Audio certification applies to both wired and wireless modes. The 360-degree spatial audio with head tracking is a surprising inclusion at this price; it works reasonably well for music and video, though the effect is subtle compared to dedicated spatial audio hardware.
Features & Software
Hybrid ANC combines feedforward and feedback microphones for up to 50dB of claimed noise reduction across the 20Hz to 4kHz frequency range. Real-world performance is effective against steady mechanical and transit noise, though it doesn’t match flagship ANC from Bose or Sony. Adaptive ANC mode adjusts depth automatically based on environment.

The Haylou Sound app covers ANC mode selection, spatial audio, LDAC toggling, EQ with nine presets plus a 10-band parametric equalizer, and game mode (80ms low latency). Multipoint connection is supported for two devices simultaneously but must be manually enabled in the app. The detachable microphone on a flexible stem improves call and voice capture quality beyond what the built-in microphone array alone provides.
Battery Life
The S40 delivers approximately 90 hours without ANC and 60 hours with ANC enabled at 30% volume. Standby time reaches roughly 20-plus days. Charge time is approximately 2.5 hours via USB-C. These numbers are exceptional for the price category and largely eliminate any anxiety about daily charging.
Connectivity
Bluetooth 6.0 provides faster pairing and stronger connection stability over earlier standards. USB-C wired connectivity is also available for audio and charging. The L-shaped connector supports multipoint for two devices; this defaults to off and requires the app to enable.

Warranty & Value
The HAYLOU S40 is available for $55 on Amazon and at haylou.com. No water resistance rating is listed, so outdoor or exercise use in wet conditions isn’t recommended. No carrying case is included.
Verdict
The HAYLOU S40 is a remarkable value proposition. The ANC doesn’t reach flagship levels, and the app experience has some rough edges, but the battery life, dual-driver audio, LDAC support, and spatial audio are features you’d typically pay considerably more for.
At $55, there’s very little in the category that competes with this combination. For commuters, remote workers, students, and casual listeners who want capable ANC headphones without a significant budget commitment, the S40 is a strong pick.
