After months of speculation, Dell confirmed at CES that it was launching an Android handset for the US market. The carrier behind the launch was AT&T, the iPhone’s own home network.
No hardware specifications, pricing, or availability details were announced, but prior rumors pointed to a 3.5-inch capacitive touchscreen at 640×360 resolution and a 3-megapixel camera.
Dell was not new to the handheld market, and this was technically not their first Android device either. The US smartphone was a revised version of the Dell Mini 3i already being sold in China and Brazil. Dell also had a well-regarded line of PDAs in the early 2000s — the Axim series — which were manufactured by a then little-known HTC and sold under the Dell brand.
