Android Adds AirDrop Compatibility and Streamlined iOS Migration

Google today announced updates to Android focused on cross-platform sharing, device migration, and secure communication. The changes aim to simplify file transfers between Android and iOS devices while improving the experience of switching from iPhone to Android.

Quick Share Gets AirDrop Compatibility

Quick Share now works with AirDrop on supported Android phones, starting with Pixel devices. The compatibility will expand to additional partners this year, including Samsung, OPPO, OnePlus, Vivo, Xiaomi, and HONOR.

For devices without native Quick Share support, Google introduced a QR code option. Any Android phone can generate a QR code that allows instant cloud-based sharing with iOS devices. Quick Share will also become available inside select apps, including WhatsApp, in the near future.

Improved iOS to Android Migration

Google worked with Apple to rebuild the iOS-to-Android transfer process. The new wireless migration supports the following data types:

The wireless process also includes eSIM transfer, eliminating the need for physical SIM card swaps. The feature will launch first on Samsung Galaxy and Google Pixel devices later this year.
