Level Up with LOC8: Journey’s Tiny Trackers, Big Peace of Mind

From your wallet to your keyring, Journey’s LOC8 lineup taps into Apple’s Find My network to help you track what matters—no extra dongles, no stress.

Journey has quickly become one of my favorite accessory makers. After moving to iPhone a few years ago now, the lineup the company consistently churns out for Apple devices is top-notch. From chargers to Apple Watch straps, Journey rarely disappoints.

One market that Journey shines is third-party Find My Devices for tracking your personal items. The line is branded as the LOC8 moniker and has become one of the strongest offerings from Journey. I’ve taken a few weeks now to help our readers get a hands-on feel for some of our favorite trackers currently for sale from the LOC8 group.

Journey LOC8 Motion Key Organizer

Let’s start with the latest and unique option from the line, the LOC8 Motion Key Organizer. There are other options for something like this squircle, compact key organizer, but it’s the first I’ve seen with the Apple Find My Device network onboard. Adding the most popular, and accurate, tracking network in the United States is a huge plus for the LOC8 Motion Key Organizer.

From a design standpoint, you get a fantastic mix of metal and leather components that combine to hold your keys. This “switchblade” style organization makes for a slim, compact storage system for the keys. There’s a screw stud that has a great flip up twist mechanism that makes destructing and constructing the layout tool-less, which is a nice touch.

Also included, is a studded divider that sits in the middle, allowing you to easily access all your key with just the turn of that one section. Internally, you have a rechargeable battery rated for four months per charge.

All that is great, but with LOC8 in the literal naming, you need to know how well it leverages the Find My Device network. I had an entire scenario of how I was going to mock test this, and then found out in the first week by accident how well this works. I rode with my wife to our gym and had the LOC8 Motion Key system in my gym bag. While trying not to die in the workout, I reached in my bag for my gymnastic grips and dropped my keys in the cubby storage bins.

Once I arrived home, and realized my accident, I had the piece of mind that Find My told me exactly where they were. A five-minute ride back to the gym and the app, pointing to me to the cubbies, had my keys back in my pocket.

At just $80, the LOC8 Motion Key Organizer not only simplifies your old keyring, but gives you that mental security of losing your keys is now a thing of the past.

Journey LOC8 Finder Card

Next in the LOC8 lineup is the new Finder Card. This can be used in a multitude of situations, but let’s be honest, this is for tracking your wallet. The LOC8 Finder Card is roughly the size of two credit cards stacked together.

Again, the Find My Device integration directly with Apple’s existing ecosystem makes this a seamless option for iOS users. It’s been accurate in reporting the Finder Card’s location and when ping the card for a lost beacon or the built-in sound alert, the device has been prompt in responding.

My one negative of the LOC8 Finder Card is the battery. Yes, it will last up to two years without failing, but having it be disposable after that period seems like a waste. Competitors for this type of wallet devices, including the integrated LOC8 Wallets from Journey, include inductive chargers. The company simply should have engineered this mechanism.

The Journey LOC8 Finder Card is still a fine option despite this omission. Especially at just $25. Hit our link below to snag one now.

Journey LOC8 Finder Fob

Our final entry on our list of LOC8 units from Journey is the Finder Fob. This is the most akin to the OG Find My Device of the Apple AirTag. The general design is a plastic rounded square puck with a punch out of for a keyring or other attachment.

Adding the LOC8 Finder Fob to Apple’s Find My app works just like the rest and very similar to the AirTag. Within a few steps, you are ready to track the Fob. One side of the tracker has a door that can be opened with either a flathead screwdriver or small coin to access the replaceable battery.

Where the LOC8 Finder Fob sets itself apart from the AirTag, is price and the built-in attachment punch out. At just $25, it is less than an AirTag buy a few buck, but not having to add a cover or other accessory to attach to what you want to track is where you get the winning mojo for the LOC8 Finder Fob.
