T-Mobile-ownedMetroPCS, like its parent carrier, is showing its benevolence for the holidays. Family switchers (families of four or five) struggle to purchase new smartphones because, well, you do the math. Carriers want to change the financial obstacles for families to switch from carrier to carrier, and MetroPCS, in the spirit of the holidays, would love to win customers from Sprint, Verizon, and AT&T.
In the spirit of healthy competition, the T-Mobile MVNO is offering a new promo on five Samsung Galaxy J7 Prime smartphones and a free year of Amazon Prime when you switch from your current carrier to MetroPCS and choose an unlimited LTE data plan. The Samsung Galaxy J7 Prime boasts of a 5.5-inch HD (1280 x 720p) display, 16GB of storage with a 256GB-capable microSD card slot, fingerprint scanner, and a 3,300mAh battery that delivers up to 40 hours of talk time, Samsung says.
In addition to the $308 of savings between the Galaxy J7 Prime and Amazon Prime, the MVNO also offers unlimited 4G LTE data for $100 for up to 4 lines. Amazon Prime comes with ad-free Prime Video, unlimited Prime Photo storage, Kindle First and its monthly, pre-release book, and unlimited shipping on Lightning Deals.
Though the T-Mobile announcement doesn’t state it explicitly, the fine print says that you must take advantage of your free Amazon Prime for you and your family by December 31st. Head on over to the source link below — and read the fine print before agreeing.
Thanksgiving is that time of year when families gather to share meals, movies and laughs, and many choose to watch NFL football to celebrate America’s most beloved sport. You’ve heard of the Most Valuable Player (MVP) in sports games: the person who scores the most points on the field, right?
Well, T-Mobile hasn’t bought a sports team (no the UNcarrier has yet to go that far), but Magenta wants to make you an MVG — the Most Valuable Gifter — with its new BOGO deal on high-end smartphones.
Starting on November 17th, T-Mobile is offering new and existing customers an unbeatable deal: when you buy one phone, you’ll be able to get one of equal or lesser value free. This includes smartphones such as the LG V20, LG G6, LG V30 and the LG V30+, as well as the Samsung Galaxy S8, Galaxy S8+, Galaxy Note 8, and Galaxy S8 Active, as well as save $300 on the new iPhone X when you trade in an eligible device.
The T-Mobile BOGO offer allows you to receive the price of the second phone back by way of a rebate card, though keep in mind that taxes on both the purchased phone and the “free” phone will be required up-front.
Both the Galaxy S8 Active and LG V30+ have now landed at T-Mobile, and we’re sure these are two devices on your mind this holiday season (finally, the AT&T/Galaxy Active monopoly has ended!).
The new T-Mobile BOGO offer brings discounts on a few accessories such as $70 off the Twilight Magenta Ultimate Ears MEGABOOM (now $179.99), $80 off Twilight Magenta Ultimate Ears BOOM 2 (now $99.99), and 40% off the Speckled Magenta mophie powerstation mini. T-Mobile’s dual camera-endowed REVVL Plus smartphone will see a Black-and-Magenta color splash model arrive just in time for the shopping season.
All T-Mobile ONE plans included unlimited talk, text, and data with 50GB of unlimited data throttling alongside of free Netflix (Netflix on Us, Magenta says).
Are you an instrument player who’d like to create your own songs and instrumentation? Part of what has made the DIY (Do It Yourself) movement so successful is that it enables builders to save money if they’re willing to sacrifice a little extra time. Some are so inclined as to build or repair their own products and don’t need the added cost. When it comes to music, the same can be said for some of us who just carry music with us heart and soul.
You could go find a keyboard on which to do all of this but may end up paying hundreds of dollars (the best digital keyboards cost a pretty penny these days). If you’re a DIY person who likes to try your hand at everything at least once, then perhaps this new Gamepad Keyboard may prove to your liking.
Called the SunFounder MagicKey 3-in-1 MIDI Gamepad Keyboard, this device lets you create your own instrument (say, a piano), gamepad for gaming, and keyboard for various activities, using other objects to enhance the experience such as tiny metal drums to create your “drum.” The beauty behind the 3-in-1 MIDI Gamepad Keyboard is that it isn’t just one item, but three in one. You can use it for multiple purposes, in everything from work to leisure.
When you’re tired of recording songs and working on a new piece, relax and convert the Gamepad Keyboard into a hand-held game controller. The MagicKey MIDI Gamepad Keyboard mandates the use of a Raspberry Pi or PC, so remember this before jumping in.
This multipurpose device loaded and packed with fun will set you back just $32.99, and you’ve likely never seen something this adventurous for this affordable a price. If you’re a DIY person with at least a modicum of curiosity, head on over to the link above to pick up your very own. Then come back here and let us know what use you have in mind for MagicKey’s Gamepad Keyboard.

The OnePlus 5 is only a few months old, but OnePlus is already back with a new proposal. As OnePlus did last year with the OnePlus 3T, released only four months after the OnePlus 3, the company has now pulled the veil off a successor to its latest flagship, baptized the OnePlus 5T.
Yet this year things are a bit different, as the Chinese device maker has launched a second phone with roughly the same specs, but very different design. OnePlus is done bucking the all-screen smartphone trend so, the OnePlus 5T makes the transition to the modern bezel-less design that most customers are lusting for these days. The physical home button has been removed in order to keep the bottom “chin” as slim as possible and the fingerprint sensor – which can still unlock your phone in under 0.2 seconds – now lives on the back of the phone.
The OnePlus 5T features a larger 6-inch OLED display on paper, but due to its new 18:9 aspect ratio, it’s practically the same size as the OnePlus 5, although it’s a tad taller and wider. The display takes up 80.5% of the phone’s front and features the unusual yet by now familiar 1080 x 2160 resolution.
The OnePlus 5T is basically made of the same materials as its predecessor, meaning it sports an aluminum build, a lush black finish and a very ergonomic curved back that makes the phone easy to grip. You also get the majority of the OnePlus 5’s specs on board of the OnePlus 5T including a Snapdragon 835 processor with Adreno 540 GPU, as well as two RAM + storage versions (6GB of RAM + 64GB storage and 8GB of RAM + 128GB storage) and the 3,300 mAh battery. And in case you were wondering about this particular aspect, the 3.5mm headphone jack is still present.
The second biggest change the OnePlus 5T brings to the table is in the camera department. Say goodbye to the secondary telephoto lens which adorned the back of the OnePlus 5, as the company has replaced it with a “low-light camera” with f/1.2 – the same aperture as the one on the main sensor, which has remained unchanged. OnePlus says that in very low-light scenarios, the camera will automatically revert to the secondary 20-megapixel sensor with 27mm field of view in order to noise-free low-light shots. And yes, Portrait Mode makes a return on the OnePlus 5T, slightly improved in order to better reduce the noise.
The OnePlus 5T also includes a few other new features. It comes with Face Unlock – an authentication method which scans your face while looking for 100 identifiers to determine whether you are the owner of the phone or not.
Moreover, OxygenOS brings a few improvements on the software side, including Parallel Apps (a tool for cloning apps, so you can use two social accounts at once), New Gallery and customization options (for example you can use custom icons with the built-in launcher).
The OnePlus 5T will go on sale on November 21 in the US, Europe, as well as China, Hong Kong, and India. Customers will be able to place an order on OnePlus’ official website starting 9 a.m. (EST). Oh and at least initially it’s only going to be available in Midnight Black.
As for pricing, the OnePlus 5T is a bit more expensive than the OnePlus 5, no surprises here. In the US, the base 64GB model will be available for $499, while the 128GB will be sold for $599. To compare, the OnePlus 5 was offered for either $479 or $539, depending on the model.
Sometimes you want to present a visual that has different ‘layers’ to it. While your main visual conveys on overall sense of understanding, there may be more nuanced details within the frame that you’d like to expand on. But, it can get confusing to continually switch between multiple frames to tell your story concisely.
What you’d like is to be able to “zoom in” to your frame, to show your audience the details necessary to fully state your case.
You can do just that with the app DESCRIPIX, from the French developer Vmotion. It’s a free app (with a paid “Pro” version, of course) that lets you annotate a visual (photo, graphic, etc) with text, web links, and even other photos. The key difference here is that the annotations are displayed pop-up style; hidden with different colored markers. Only by touching a marker does it bring up the full annotation. This means that you can have several annotations as-needed on a single image, without making the main visual overly busy and complicated.
A great example is the server rack in the video above. To add all the text, links, and other stuff onto this single image would be nearly impossible. But the small markers retain the usability of the main image, while offering a plethora of ancillary information at the viewer’s fingertips.
App Usability
Starting a new project….
You can download the DESCRIPIX app for free from the Play Store. Once downloaded, you’re presented with a pretty simple menu. Each main image is called a “project”. You can open existing projects, or start a new one. New projects can be either an image on your device, or you can take a new photo on the fly and start building from there.
You simply tap on a spot in your main image, and choose whether you want to add text, a web link, or a pop-up image. Once your drop your marker, you can move it more precisely with the help of a magnifier (see below), and also rotate the marker itself, to maximize its usefulness in your main image (also below).
Creating these markers and annotations was pretty intuitive and pain-free. In fact it’s so easy you can get carried away pretty easily; in messing with different projects I had to teach myself to scale it back. That said, you can get pretty dense with the markers before it gets visually distracting.
The main app menu is equally minimal, with space to manage projects and individual files, share the app, and upgrade to the “Pro” version. These last two points are key, as after you create your annotated masterpiece, you need your audience to also have the app installed to actually utilize the pop-up functionality…..so sharing the app with your audience members is vital to getting what you want out of the app (obviously).
There is a ‘save to .pdf’ function, but when doing this you get what I call a ‘notes’ version of your image (very similar to a Powerpoint presenter view, with all the behind-the-scenes notation), in lieu of a polished annotated image.
The free app will only let you send fully editable versions of your projects. If you don’t others able to mess with your presentation, you may also want to upgrade to the Pro version ($5.49), which allows the sending of read-only projects.
In the app you can directly share your project, but it goes out as a proprietary .vsaf file, so again, your recipient/audience needs to have DESCRIPIX installed for it to be of any use.
Conclusion
Overall DESCRIPIX is a fun app that could be very useful. It’s obviously main limiting factor is that the interactive files are proprietary to the app itself, so you need a good install base within your target audience for your projects to be very useful. But if you need to share multi-layered visual information to a consistent group of people, DESCRIPIX could be just the tool for the job.

We recently brought you news that little-known Chinese manufacturer Doogee unveiled a gorgeous new smartphone with a bezel-less 18:9 aspect ratio display and affordable price called the Mix 2.
Well, it seems that Doogee has other intriguing smartphones in the pipeline. According to reliable leakster @evleaks, the Chinse company is toying with the idea of building a smartphone with a curved display in the vein of the Samsung Galaxy Round and LG Flex models. He also provided readers with a couple of images showcasing what appears to be a prototype display as proof.
We’re told Doogee plans to try its hand at making a curved screen device next year. According to the leak, the phone should come boasting an 18:5:9 aspect ratio, as well as 6GB of RAM and 128GB of internal storage.
Doogee’s latest smartphone, the Mi Mix
Curved smartphones haven’t really taken off, but it remains to be seen whether Doogee’s project – if successful – will fair out better than previous models that have graced the market. LG, for example, released the Flex 2 smartphone in 2015 but ceased to follow-up with any new models and Samsung also abandoned its Galaxy Round initiative. But these phones were high-end models offered at pretty steep price points, while Doogee will probably sell its curved alternative with a very affordable price tag – something which could make a big difference on how customers receive the new device.
With Doogee growing pretty fast as a brand, we should expect more surprises from the company in the near future. Would you buy a curved smartphone from Doogee if it was offered at the right price?
Teased at MWC 2017 in Barcelona back in February, Motorola’s Polaroid Insta-Share Printer Moto Mod will finally be available for customers at Verizon and Motorola.com starting this week for $199.99 a pop. Motorola also says the new Moto Mod will also be made available in other markets globally in the upcoming months.
So what can you do with the Polaroid Insta-Share Printer? Like its name so aptly indicates, you can snap the add-on on the back of a compatible Motorola smartphone – like the Moto Z2 Play which is available at Verizon – to print the pictures you’ve snapped using your mobile camera. The mobile photography accessory uses Polaroid Premium ZINK Zero-Ink Paper to print smudge-free images in 2×3” format.
You can use the new Moto Mod to print your favorite pictures from places like Facebook, Instagram or Google Photos. And before turning them into paper memorabilia, you can even customize the images by adding filters, borders and text. What’s more, printed images have sticky backs, so you’ll be able to stick them anywhere you please.
Earlier this month, Motorola also launched the new Smart Speaker Mod which brings Alexa integration to any compatible Moto smartphone. The accessory is expected to go on sale next month with a $149.99 price tag attached to it.
