Pokémon GO Kicks Off ‘Tales of Transformation’ Season with Major Updates

Niantic has announced the next season of Pokémon GO, titled Tales of Transformation, running from September 2 through December 2, 2025. The three-month event will bring new Pokémon debuts, Mega Evolutions, raids, community days, and even a long-awaited increase to the game’s level cap.

Keldeo’s Resolute Form and New Evolutions

A highlight of the season is the arrival of Keldeo’s Resolute Form, making its first appearance in Pokémon GO. Players can encounter Keldeo through a new Special Research storyline that will gradually unlock throughout the season. Trainers who already have Keldeo can continue their journey by earning Candy to power it up.

Other Pokémon transformations will play a key role this season. Dipplin and Hydrapple will make their debuts, and players can look forward to seeing how additional species evolve into new forms over the coming weeks.

Mega Evolutions and Dynamax Raids

For fans of Mega Evolution, Sharpedo, Camerupt, and Metagross will debut in Mega Raids on special event days. Dynamax and Gigantamax battles are also coming, including encounters with Gigantamax Garbodor and Dynamax Duraludon.

The season won’t be without threats, though. Team GO Rocket activity is expected to rise, headlined by the debut of Shadow Groudon in Shadow Raids. Giovanni is also set to return with more Shadow Pokémon in tow.

Level Cap Increase to 80

On October 15, 2025, Niantic will roll out one of the game’s most ambitious updates yet, raising the level cap from 50 to 80. The rebalance promises milestone rewards, cosmetics, and faster progression for many players. To help Trainers prepare, bonus XP events are already live, including double catch XP and extra rewards for raid and Max Battle wins.

Timed Research offering more than seven million XP will be available to all Trainers above level 5.

Seasonal Activities and Community Days

The Tales of Transformation calendar features three Community Days on September 14, October 12, and November 30. Weekly challenges will add a social twist, letting players team up with friends, or get matched globally, for collaborative rewards and Friendship boosts.

Other seasonal activities include:

  • GO Pass progression track, with free and paid versions offering rewards and faster leveling.
  • The return of the GO Battle League, featuring themed cups such as Summer, Fantasy, and Jungle.
  • PokéStop Showcases highlighting specific Pokémon each week.
  • Seasonal egg pools with rotating hatches, including chances at Shiny starters and regionals.

Seasonal Bonuses

Throughout the season, Trainers will benefit from ongoing perks such as guaranteed Rare Candy XL from raid bosses (for level 31+), increased XP from streaks, and extra Candy when trading.
