Spotify and Hulu team up to offer a $12.99/month bundle

0

Like Spotify and Hulu? Well, good news! The two streaming services have teamed up to offer a subscription bundle conveniently priced at $12.99/month.

This way, you won’t have to subscribe to Spotify and Hulu separately and you’ll be able to save $5 in the process. Normally, you’d have to pay $9.99 for the Spotify Premium music-streaming subscription included in the bundle and $7.99 for Hulu’s tier for a total of $18. The Hulu part is actually the basic package, so expect it to be riddled with commercials.

Who can get the deal?

The offer sounds good, but there’s a caveat. It’s only available for Spotify Premium subscribers. Although the deal will be extended to everyone this summer.

So if you currently have only a Spotify Premium subscription, you can get Hulu for three months for only an additional $0.99 on top of your $9.99 Spotify monthly payment. This means you’ll be able to take advantage of the two services in exchange for only $10.99. After the three months expire, you’ll be required to upgrade to the Spotify and Hulu bundle, priced at $12.99.

Note that you cant be on the Premium Family Plan to take advantage of the promo either. You need a standard Spotify Premium subscription.

What if you have Hulu? No worries, you are eligible for this deal also. Provided you are on the Hulu Limited Commercials plan and don’t have any Adds-os (like HBO or Showtime). You’ll also need to be paying Hulu directly and no through a third party and finally, switch your billing to Spotify.

The deal is available between April 11 and May 10, so if you’d like to try it, you can go ahead and sign up for the bundle right here.

It’s not the first time Hulu and Spotify teamed up to offer a deal like this. Some of you might remember that back in September the two services started offering a subscription package aimed at college students and priced at $5.99 a month.

Glow Hockey 2 gives you more of the same (review)

Glow Hockey 2, the all-ages sequel game from developer Natenai Ariyatrakool, offers a similar air hockey experience to the original Glow Hockey game. If you’ve tried the original title, you’ll love the continued experience here. If you’re new to the title, you’ll likely find a little fun here. Let’s take a look at it.

Setup

Setup is simple; simply download from the Play Store. Once downloaded you are greeted with a pretty simple menu. Here you can choose to play 1-player or 2-player air hockey. You can also enter the Settings. In Settings, you can toggle visual and sound/vibration. You can also tweak the color palette of the board, paddles, and/or puck. If you wish, you can also launch out of the game to explore the developer’s other game lineup.

Gameplay

If you’ve ever played air hockey before, then you can handle this game. Holding your device, you’re on one end of a miniature hockey table. Your opponent is at the other. Your objective is two-fold: knock the puck into your opponent’s goal, and protect your goal in return. The puck moves pretty quick as it’s riding on a cushion of air coming up from the table (hence “air hockey”).

It’s a game of speed and angles, as you slap the puck forward and to the side, trying to bounce it around your opponent’s paddle into their goal. Of course, they’re trying to do the exact same thing right back at ya. Scoring is a race-to-seven affair; first one there wins. Once you win, it’s back to the menu.

There are multiple levels available, Easy, Medium, Hard, and “Insane”. They are pretty much what you’d expect; each level takes up the difficulty a notch. “Insane” level is just that….good luck trying to beat it.

Like vs. Dislike

Glow Hockey 2 offers a fun and colorful air hockey simulator experience. It’s an extremely

Xmas theme.

easy-to-pick-up title, that lets you start out as a total newbie, gain experience, and then quickly graduate to more and more difficult competition.

Visually, Glow Hockey sticks to its name, providing a bright but not garish look to it. The whimsical Christmas themes give you a change-up once in a while as you play.

The audio is just okay; the effects are fairly metallic, sounding like they’re being played on a cheap set of computer speakers. But it’s fine, did I mention you can toggle them off? The sound just isn’t necessary; you can play all you want without the audio and it’s just fine.

If there is a problem with Glow Hockey 2, it’s likely with you. And me. And probably most other players. I’m talking about our fingers; namely the sweat that builds as you play and the pressure mounts. As you play, the combination of the game pressure combined with your natural oils almost always makes it harder to move your finger across the screen. It almost gets sticky, and it will cost you games. This was frustrating, and there’s probably not a whole lot you can do about it. It was enough to make me stop playing several times; just put it down and walk away.

Conclusion

Glow Hockey 2 will give you a quick and easy air hockey experience. There is enough variety and color to pull you, entertain you, and challenge you. Unfortunately, the fun doesn’t last forever. After playing for a while, you may find that the game loses its luster. Plus you may get frustrated with the “sticky screen” issue.

Still, if you’re looking for an easy game for you or your kiddos to pick up and play without a lot of investment; Glow Hockey 2 is worth a look.

The Anker PowerCore 20000 PD is the portable charger you need

Nowadays, there are just a few smartphones that can reliably last you throughout the day. This is where portable chargers come into play, but these have been getting better over the years. The Anker PowerCore 20000 PD may just be the best portable charger I’ve ever used, and I’ll tell you why.

Anker made its name by releasing and providing excellent portable chargers. The company has been on the market for years and continues to impress. The same can be said about the PowerCore 20000 PD which arrived on my doorstep a few weeks ago. I was immediately greeted by the familiar blue and white packaging that Anker is known for.

What are the specifics?

Opening the box, you are greeted with the PowerCore 20000 PD itself, a USB Type-C cable, protective sleeve, and the standalone charging brick. Other than that, there’s nothing else here to be concerned with short of warranty information.

  • Size: 6.5 x 2.4 x 0.9in
  • Weight: 358g
  • Battery Capacity: 20000 mAh
  • Input: 5V/2A(MAX)
  • PD Output: 5V/3A, 9V/2.6A, 15V/1.6A
  • Standard Output: 5V/2A
  • Ports: 2

The PowerCore 20000 PD is rated to charge the Galaxy S8 more than 5 times. Of course, your mileage may vary depending on the device, but this is still impressive.

Anker also claims that you can recharge the PowerCore 20000 in just 4 hours with the included charger. This included charger can also work with those who are rocking the new MacBook with USB C.

Design & Performance

After you have unpacked the PowerCore 20000, you’ll notice a familiar look. On one end, you’ll find the specs, while the single USB A port and USB C port can be found on the other.

Atop the charger, we have 4 LED indicators, letting you know when the time is almost up. These indicators are also in line with the USB C side, for those who need some extra help finding the right end.

On the right-hand side of the PowerCore 20000, we have the power button. This will activate the charger when a device has been connected, along with showing off how much juice is left.

On the performance side of things, I was pleasantly surprised. All of the Quick Charge needs that I ran into were properly taken care of. This includes being able to charge up my phone in a pinch, without worrying about the right charging speeds.

Perhaps what impressed me, even more, was the included wall charger. This features just a single USB C port, but can also charge devices thanks to the Power Delivery technology. Oh, and it’s super convenient to be able to recharge a portable charger of this capacity in just a few hours.

Normally, this would take at least a full day, if not longer to achieve. This package from Anker is super impressive and is a set of chargers that don’t leave my side.

Conclusion

Anker definitely knows its stuff when it comes to portable chargers, and is one of the most trusted brands. The PowerCore 20000 PD is one of the best options available on the market, but it is a bit pricey.

At the time of this writing, the PowerCore 20000 is priced at $79.99 from Amazon. However, there’s a limited coupon that is being included which knocks off an extra $10.

Sure, $70 for a portable charger may be a bit steep to some, but there are considerations to be made. You’re getting one of the best chargers from a trusted brand. You’re also getting two chargers that can both charge just about anything you throw at it, including USB C laptops.

If you want to learn more about the PowerCore 20000 PD, hit the button below. In the meantime, feel free to ask any questions and let us know what you think about this portable charger set.

OnePlus 6 will get an Avengers: Infinity War Special Edition

0

After launching a Star Wars-themed version of the OnePlus 5T, the Chinese smartphone maker is now gearing up to unleash another special edition phone.

With the imminent launch of the OnePlus 6, it appears fans will also be treated with an Avengers: Infinity War Edition phone, as well.

According to a report coming out of Deadline Hollywood, OnePlus will be one of the major brands, alongside Coca-Cola, Ziploc and more to help promote the latest installment in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The new film will hit cinemas on April 27.

In the vein of the OnePlus 5T Star Wars Edition, the OnePlus 6 Avengers: Infinity War Edition will probably feature Avengers branding and a unique colour scheme.

OnePlus 6 might be coming earlier this year

The report also says the phone will come equipped with some Hulk-like specs including a Snapdragon 845 processor, 8GB of RAM and 256GB of internal storage.

The collaboration was also teased on OnePlus’ Facebook page in India, which is a very good indication that the phone will be sold in the country. Deadline Hollywood says the handset will also make it to the UK. Hopefully, these won’t be the only two markets to get the special edition.

OnePlus typically launches new hardware in June, but this year the company might do things a bit differently.

According to a recently leaked poster, the OnePlus 6 could arrive as early as May 5. However, this information has not been officially confirmed. Hence you should take it with a grain of salt until we know more.

The OnePlus 6 has been the subject of numerous leaks lately. The device should launch with a notched display and a $500+ price tag. We also heard, the company might be working on a pair of wireless earbuds. Dubbed OnePlus Bullets Wireless, they should launch alongside the new phone.

IKEA introduces its own line of Bluetooth speakers called Eneby

0

IKEA is the place to go when it comes to inexpensive, assembled modern furniture. But the Swedish company also wants to be your home gadget provider.

With this in mind, IKEA has recently released a lineup of Bluetooth speakers called the Eneby. The products are available in two sizes: an 8 x 8-inch model and a 12 x 12-inch one. Obviously, the smaller version is meant to cater to those who need something more portable, so it comes with a handle.

Your next Bluetooth speaker is waiting for you at IKEA

Interested parties can choose between black or grey polyester fabric on black or white plastic. Because it’s IKEA, the design is minimalist. There’s only a knob on the front to turn it on/off and adjust the bass or treble.

The two Eneby speakers can be connected to devices that don’t have Bluetooth using a 3.5mm auxiliary cable. Users can also pair up to eight other gadgets to the speakers. What’s more, the Enebies include an auto-off function that’s meant to save energy when they is not in use.

The smaller speaker can be used with an Eneby battery (sold separately) for a total of 8-10 hours of playtime.

What’s more, it’s possible to mount these speakers to wall brackets or on a stand, but you’ll need to pay separately for those.

Note that the Eneby speakers are not smart speakers, which means you won’t be able to ask them to play your Spotify playlist or set an appointment.

Anyway, the larger Eneby speaker will take you back with $89, while the smaller one costs $49. The Eneby battery pack will cost you an additional $20 and the stand $10.

The speakers are not available to purchase online, so you’ll have to take a trip to your nearest Ikea store if you want one.

IKEA’s new Eneby Bluetooth speakers are so far available only in the US and UK.

Could we see a new Google-branded Android TV at I/O 2018?

0

Google has its hands in a boatload of different products and projects all of the time. Simply going to Android.com will show you categories of Phones, Wear, Tablets, TV, and more. Recently, it seems that Android TV has been left off to the wayside.

The interesting thing about Android TV is the fact that Google has never created a device of its own. Instead, the Big G has focused on Chromecast hardware, leaving other OEM’s to do the “dirty work”.

New Android TV incoming?

All of that could be changing soon, as a Google-branded Android TV stick has passed through the FCC. Not only did we get our first glimpse at a new Android TV dongle, but also some possible documentation.

The documentation shows off the new remote that will be joining the Android TV stick. This remote will have a dedicated Google Assistant button. Which is a smart move so that you don’t activate all of the Google Home’s in your abode.

Another piece of documentation shows off the interface that will be utilized. While having your favorite apps at the top, there are also recommendations for various shows to start watching.

Other key specs include an Amilogic S905X chipset, which is coupled with 2GB of RAM and 8GB of storage. The stick will also include dual-band Wi-Fi, along with Bluetooth 4.1.

None of this should come as any surprise, as the Nexus Player will no longer see any updates. A new Android TV stick would allow for Google to provide a new device for developers.

As for a possible release, we have our sights set on Google I/O 2018. The event is taking place in just a few weeks, and is, of course, developer-centric.

READ MORE: Google now focuses on consumer hardware

The downside here is that we have no idea where an Android TV stick from Google could be priced at. This isn’t a fully-fledged box like the popular Shield TV from NVIDIA, so it shouldn’t command a steep price tag.

Are you ready? The LG G7 ThinQ is being unveiled on May 3rd

0

While the Samsung Galaxy S9 and Huawei P20 have already been introduced, there’s more to come this year. We are still waiting to see devices from LG, HTC, and others. One such device coming soon is the LG G7 ThinQ.

The LG G7 ThinQ is coming!

Yeah, that’s right. LG will be switching its naming moniker system to include the new ‘ThinQ’ brand. The announcement was made earlier today, along with a couple of press events.

On May 2nd, in New York City, LG will officially unveil the G7 ThinQ to the world. Then, on May 3rd, the device will be shown off in LG’s home country of Korea.

The ThinQ brand may sound familiar, and that’s for good reason. At MWC 2018, LG unveiled the V30S ThinQ, which is a slightly upgraded version of last year’s LG V30.

The focus of the ‘ThinQ’ branding is a focus on AI thanks to its “Voice AI”, “Empathy AI”, and “Vision AI”. It’s likely that some of the upcoming features of the G7 ThinQ have already been introduced with the V30S.

The complete overhaul of branding comes as no surprise. LG reportedly scrapped the original G7 in favor of not just rushing a phone out to compete with Samsung.

That’s a tactic that has not worked for anyone taking on the likes of Samsung or Apple. LG and HTC have (finally) realized this and won’t be launching devices on a regular schedule. At least not flagship models.

The G7 ThinQ has been making its rounds as of late. We have seen various renders and spec rumors, but there are few things to be sure of.

LG’s latest device will likely sport the Snapdragon 845 chipset, which will be coupled with at least 6GB of RAM. The camera system will be another primary focus, and a dual-camera setup is expected to return.

With a huge focus on AI, this may explain the “unknown button” that was revealed in recent CAD leaks. This could be an easy way to access Google Assistant (a la the Bixby button). Or, LG could be going down a different route entirely.

Nonetheless, we are just a few weeks away from seeing what LG has been working on. In the meantime, sound off in the comments and let us know if you’re looking forward to LG’s new flagship.

Save big on Kindle’s and Amazon Fire tablets, if you’re a Prime member

0

If you thought that Black Friday was the best day to get deals, you may be mistaken. From time to time, Amazon runs various sales on its own products. Today’s deals are for a bunch of Amazon Fire tablets.

Amazon Fire Deals

Starting today and lasting until Amazon decides to end it, you can pick up either a Fire tablet or Kindle for as low as $34.99. The catch here is that the deal is exclusive to Prime subscribers.

Amazon Fire 7 $49.99 $34.99

Leading the pack is the base-model Amazon Fire 7 tablet. This 7-inch tablet sports a 1.3 GHz quad-core chipset, along with 1GB of RAM. There are two storage options, coming in at 8GB or 16GB. But this can be upgraded via the included microSD card slot.

Buy the Amazon Fire 7!

Amazon Fire HD 8 $79.99 $54.99

The Amazon Fire HD 8 is a personal favorite. This tablet sports a higher-resolution display, faster chipset, and more RAM. Plus, there is more base storage to go along with the microSD card slot.

Amazon Fire HD 10 $149.99 $109.99

The Fire HD 10 is for those who need a bigger screen. The 10.1-inch display sports a resolution of 1920 x 1200 for Full HD quality. Additionally, we have even more base storage here, and an even faster processor.

Buy the Fire HD 10!

Which is best?

All three Amazon Fire tablets offer the company’s own software overlay. This means that if you’re tied into the Amazon ecosystem, you will be able to access Prime Videos, Prime Music, and more, with ease.

However, there are a few key differences between these tablets, outside of the prices and display options. Alexa is present on all three tablets, although the Fire HD 10 is the only one that offers a ‘hands-free mode’.

The base model Fire 7 tablet is likely best for those who want to do light browsing and some video watching. There isn’t much storage on board without using a microSD card. So if you want to download videos for later, you’ll need to snag one.

My pick out of the bunch is the Fire HD 8. This tablet is small enough to throw in my back pocket and doesn’t take up much space at all. On the battery side of things, the Fire HD 8 claims to offer up to 12 hours of usage. Additionally, the Fire HD 8 sports dual-stereo speakers, which pairs nicely with the HD display.

The final option in the bunch is the Fire HD 10. This tablet has the highest resolution of all three and includes the aforementioned Hands-Free Mode for Alexa. You also get a faster chipset and more base storage than the others.

Amazon Kindle Deals

The fun doesn’t stop with the Amazon Fire lineup. The popular retailer is also offering some discounts on its base-model Kindle and Kindle Paperwhite.

Amazon Kindle $79.99 $49.99

The standard Kindle features a 6-inch glare-free display. However, the resolution measures in at 167ppi, and there is only an option for a Wi-Fi model. Nonetheless, there is 4GB of storage on board and you can use the Kindle with Audible.

Buy the Amazon Kindle!

Amazon Kindle Paperwhite $119.99 $79.99

The Kindle Paperwhite is an obvious, and much welcomed, upgrade from the standard Kindle. While also sporting a 6-inch glare-free display, the Paperwhite features a much higher resolution of 300ppi. This, combined with the 4 LED backlights, should offer a much better experience.

Buy the Kindle Paperwhite!

Which is best?

If you are unsure of whether you really want to get back into the swing of book reading, the standard Kindle will likely be the best. This offers minimal features, while still providing an excellent reading experience.

For those who want the better overall device, the Kindle Paperwhite is the way to go. The display features a 300ppi resolution, 4-LED backlights, and either Wi-Fi or Cellular connectivity.

If you were on the fence about picking up a Paperwhite, now is the time to do it. Especially considering that the sale price is the same as the regular pricing of the standard Kindle.

It was a nice run: Google stops selling the original Pixel and Pixel XL

0

We knew it was just a matter of time. Google has officially removed the original Pixel and Pixel XL from its online storefront.

Say goodbye to the OG Pixel

The Pixel lineup marked a major shift in Google’s plans for a smartphone of its own. This marked the end of the Nexus line that we had come to know and love for a stock experience.

What’s surprising is how long the Pixel and Pixel XL were still available. This is especially true considering that the Pixel 2 lineup has been available from Google and Verizon for just about 6 months.

On the bright side of things, you can still find the original lineup from the likes of Amazon or eBay. In fact, you can pick up a “Certified Refurbished” Pixel XL for just $310 from Amazon with Prime shipping.

If you don’t want to deal with the worry of the refurbished life, there’s some hope. Best Buy is currently still offering both of these devices. Of course, these will have to be purchased through Verizon, tying you up in 24 months of device payments.

This price may still drive some folks away, but if you don’t want to keep the headphone jack and still play with Android P, this is the way to go. It was a fun run while it lasted, but now we are looking towards this fall when the Pixel 3 should launch.

Are you surprised that the these have still been available for this long? Let us know in the comments below. If you happen to still be rocking one of these, let us know how it’s running for you!
