Candy Crush Friends Saga to debut on Android and iOS on October 11

0

Mobile game developer, King has just revealed is gearing up to unveil a new game from the popular Candy Crush franchise.

Called Candy Crush Friends Saga, the title has been soft-launched ever since May of last year. Thankfully, it now seems King is finally ready to start offering the game to a wider audience. The game will become available for download on October 11 for both Android and iOS users.

Candy Crush Friends Saga has players traveling through the Candy Kingdom to save characters from previous games. It will feature 3D character art and environments, although the gameplay will remain largely the same. However, the new title promises to create an unprecedented connection between players and their favorite characters.

New Candy Crush game is coming on October 11

Candy Crush Saga first launched on Facebook in April 2012. Its mobile counterpart was released in November 2012, and since then the game has been seen tremendous success.

While the gaming community might have been hyped about the arrival of Epic’s Fortnite on mobile in 2018, King’s Candy Crush Saga and its spin-off, the Candy Crush Soda Saga continue to bring joy to mobile players from around the world. And fill parent company Activision Blizzard’s bank account, in the process.

The company revealed back in May in its earnings report that revenue from King hit its highest mark ever in Q1 2018. And surprise, surprise! Candy Crush was King’s highest earner, with Candy Crush Soda coming in the second place.

Even though both are older games, their popularity seems to endure across time. Well, King preparing to refresh its Candy Crush lineup of games soon and if you’re a fan of the titles, you must be very excited.

The new Candy Crush Friends Saga will be, of course, free to download from the Google Play Store. Although, like it’s the case with its predecessors, you can expect it to feature a lot of in-app purchases.

Man or Vampire: A journey into the afterlife (Review)

Have you ever wondered what happens after you die? Does your soul goes somewhere? How does it looks like? Man or Vampire gives us another take on these questions by creating a dark, grim world that doesn’t look like how people normally picture heaven. This randomly-generated world full of monsters, bosses, and loot provides a superb amount of content and depth, thanks to its entertaining combat system, powerful character upgrade system, and extensive modes and options.

Developer: HIDEA
Price: Free

Tutorial

The mechanics of Man or Vampire are made much easier thanks to its brilliant tutorial. Very early in the game you realize that the character you control is dead, and you are in heaven. You then go through a basic dungeon, in which the game shows you the controls, battle mechanics, inventory management, and similar useful stuff.

The tutorial ends in a very intriguing way, and then it resets you to control the one who will actually be your character throughout the game. However, your character is not alone, since you have the possibility of taking at least three other characters with you, which you get in-game from an aptly-named function called “Soul Search.”

Overview

Man or Vampire is a combination of several mechanics from other games. At its core, it is a turn-based role-playing game, very similar to Fire Emblem. When battling against enemies, the battlefield becomes a grid, in which you can move around and perform actions like attacking, healing, or performing special abilities, depending on the grid space you land on. Upon defeating enemies, you get experience, which you use to level up and get new skills.

You explore the world through the Adventure mode. Here, you enter different levels that are created randomly in order to get loot and experience. When not battling, the characters are able to explore the world using a League of Legends-style navigation, in which you touch a point to which you want your characters to walk, rather than moving the characters yourself.

The Combat System

As previously mentioned, the CPU and you take turns in attacking each other. The order in which the characters attack, the damage they deal, and the damage they take when being attack are all calculated using your character’s stats as a base. There are also items you can equip to increase your character’s strength, defense, and intelligence.

The battle grid changes depending on the type of character you are controlling. For example, characters with sword will not get an attack tile unless they are right next to an emeny. Meanwhile, other characters can only attack if they are two tiles away from the target. There are also green tiles for healing, purple ones to heal all characters in a party, and yellow tiles to perform special abilities. The actual color, arrangement, and number of movements you are allowed greatly depends on the character.

Overall, there’s decent depth in the system. I have found the game to be a bit on the easy side, which makes the ellaborate system a little redundant. You can basically slash your way out of the dungeons without applying that much strategy, which defeats the purpose of the multiple levels that you can improve on. However, when enemies do give you a hard time, the system really shines.

Loot and Inventory

In every dungeon you will find chests with loot. You can equip items both for attacking and for defending yourself. Some types of character can equip a certain type of items, and there are different classes of items, which adds even another depth of complexity to the game. Initially, you can only hold 20 items, plus the ones your characters have equipped. If you need more, then you can buy more slots with gold.

There are also consumables, such as potions, teleport feathers, and cards. If you don’t find any of these items useful, you can sell them directly from the inventory, without having to go to a dedicated shop or something similar, like in other games. There are items marked as “Other” that have some special effects, such as opening special doors, “holy water” items that decrease the revival time of your allies, and even something called “Bat Scroll.”

Graphics and Sound

The artwork in Man or Vampire is, hands down, the strongest part of the game. The stylized graphics work really well with the overall theme of the game, the monsters and bosses are intriguing, and the animations are really fluid. Even though the characters you control look great when on the field, the picture that appears when you want to upgrade them does not match the rest of the artwork, making them feel out of place.

A complaint that I have with the interface is that everything is way too small to tap on it. This is especially true when you are in the campfire area, which acts as a hub to all of the different features of the game. Also, the text seems to be on the small side, and sometimes disappears way too quickly. However, when the text is big enough, it seems a bit blurry. I tested this game on a Samsung Galaxy S8, which, as you all know, has a top-notch screen. It is probably very hard to make something appear as blurry on a S8 screen, but this game unfortunately managed to do so.

The game’s music aptly follows the overall dark theme of the game, using soothing but intriguing music all over the game. I can see it growing old really quickly, though. Sound effects are appropriate and add to the experience.

Micro-transactions

No free game in the Play Store would be complete without micro-transactions. The cheapest one I found costs $4.46 and yields 500 gems and a mini map, and the most expensive one tops at an eye-watering $89.24, giving you 11500 gems. Most of the stuff you can buy with these gems are also items that you can get through playing the game, so it looks like you could play the game comfortably without spending money. Of course, if you like the game and enjoy it, spending a few dollars on the software will for sure make a huge difference to the developer.

Conclusion

Man or Vampire combines a superb graphic style with an old-school, turn-based combat in a solid RPG that can keep you entertained for hours. Although the combat is easy, the game has a lot of depth, with several different character classes, items, and heroes you can get to traverse through the intriguing, dark world. There are several elements that were left out, but they could easily fill a 5000-word review. It just has that much content.

There are some flaws, like some inconsistencies in the graphics, repetitive music, and low difficulty, but overall it is able to provide an entertaining gameplay that is very easy to pick up and start enjoying right away. If you want a game that deviates from common themes in the Play Store, such as endless games, shooters, or other genres with shallow elements, then Man or Vampire will satisfy your needs.

Download and install Man or Vampire from the Google Play Store.

Realme 2 Pro is an advanced mid-ranger coming with up to 8GB of RAM

0

Realme, a sub-brand of popular Chinese smartphone maker OPPO, this week has introduced a new handset called the Realme 2 Pro.

This is a powerful mid-range device that offers competitive specs at a highly affordable price. Targeting millennials, the Realme 2 Pro is marketed as having “Max Power, Max Style.”

The device arrives with a spacious 6.3-inch super-view full screen which features an impressive 90.8% screen-to-body ratio. It also has a waterdrop-like notch which Realme is calling “Dewdrop”. But in hand, the device feels like holding a conventional 5.5-inch phone with a 16:9 screen.

The Realme 2 Pro takes mid-range devices to a new level

The Realme 2 Pro will prove to be a very solid mid-ranger as it’s powered by a capable Snapdragon 660 processor. What’s more, it’s offered in these three advanced configurations:

  • 4GB of RAM/64GB of storage
  • 6GB of RAM/64G of storage
  • 8GB of RAM/128GB of storage

8GB of RAM on a mid-ranger? That’s quite surprising, to say the least.

Moving on to photography, the handset sports a AI-enabled dual camera on the back comprised of a main 16MP sensor (f/1.7) and a 2MP lens. The rear is also home to an oval fingerprint scanner. As for the selfie camera hidden in the tiny notch is of 16MP variety with f/2.0.

Just like the previous Realme 2, the Realme 2 Pro runs Android 8.1 Oreo out of the box with OPPO’s ColorOS 5.2 on top. It includes some proprietary features such as Easy Screenshot or Clone Phone.

Rounding up the package is a 3,500 mAh battery, which mind you, lacks the ability to fast charge.

The smartphone sports a unique polycarbonate resin dewdrop back cover, which the company says offers a sense of transparency. It’s available in Black, Deep Blue, and Light Blue.

The Realme Pro has been launched in India and will go on sale on October 11 at midnight, exclusively at Flipkart. Prices start at Rs. 13,990 / $192.

But what’s more interesting is that the Realme 2 Pro will be the first smartphone from the brand to be sold outside India. More details about that will be announced soon.

Opinion: Android faithful should invest in Android One

0

Google has recently worked with new partners to create yet another version of Android. We already had the Android GO edition for super low-end hardware, but now we also have Android One. This new OS variant is compelling due to it being offered as a stripped down, stock Android experience with the promise of 2 years of OS updates.

Why did the Google Play Edition initiative fail?

Remember Google Play Edition phones from a few years back? Android One looks to be a continuation of that movement, and I think it’s exactly what many of us have been screaming to own. And I think we should let our wallets speak for us.

Honestly, that’s where Google Play editions failed. We simply didn’t buy them in high enough volumes for manufacturers to continue the project. It’s disappointing and sad to those that truly want the Samsung’s and LG’s of the world to stay the hell away from the software side of Android phones. Google makes a beautiful OS that works incredibly fast and stable without meddling after the fact by hardware companies.

How Android One will succeed

Don’t believe me? Then, I dare you to pick up a Moto or Essential phone. Hell, the new Moto E5 Play we just reviewed has a downright dinky spec sheet but rarely skips a beat on the clean OS builds that Motorola offers. Essential is in the same boat and has also proven that fast OS updates are not a myth.

The company consistently leverages the fact that they use the most stock image of Android I can think of to produce OS updates on the same day that Google releases for the Pixel devices. It’s really an impressive feat and the main reason I currently own the PH-1.

Essential Phone PH-1

Android One phones are becoming more and more available in the last few months. Moto released one of the first back late last year with the Moto X4 Android OneNokia followed at this year’s Mobile World Congress by announcing their entire portfolio moving forward would only be Android One devices. Then, just this month, LG announced the G7 One.

Save some money

And that brings me back to our wallets. Consumers have more power than we like to remember and the Android faithful needs a reminder. You see it all the time in comments for phones like the Note 9: “man, I wish this didn’t’ have Samsung’s bloat all over it” or “wish I could get a phone with Essential’s software and LG’s hardware.” Well, put your money where your mouth is.

If we’ve made statements like that in the past, then we should be filling checkout carts. We should voice to the OEMs that these are viable products they need to continue making. I get that they may not be perfect devices.

Maybe they don’t have a specific spec that the official version from LG has, but I’d argue that most of the time we get too hung up on that in the world of Android. Moto shoots that debate down with its results. It consistently delivers a great user experience without top-tier hardware.

But this is also where I’d implore the manufacturers to price it accordingly. If your company is not spending the crazy man hours to build a fully custom Android image, then don’t charge it back to the end user.

Same with choosing the previous generation chipset or slightly less RAM than the branded flagship. Pitting the price directly against the more beefed up version is not the way to convince us Android One is the way to go.

Conclusion

We’ve asked for “Pure Android” with better hardware for years now. Well, it looks like it may finally be here. Our response will be a deciding factor in whether they stick around. As will our wallets and the retail pricing of these smartphones.

Personally, I’ll be keeping a close eye on how the initial launch of the LG G7 One goes. I feel it will be the first real meter off where this market is truly headed. What do you think? Are you interested in this new wave of Android One phones?

In brief: Mobile news worth knowing (9/26/18)

0

Welcome to In Brief, the AndroidGuys tech briefing. Today is Wednesday, September 26th and we’re taking a look at all the tech news you need to know. In this post, we want you to learn about the news the way you want to learn. We’ve embedded a podcast version of all this news below. If you don’t want to listen, you can read just like you normally would.

Today, we are getting some fresh looks at the upcoming LG V40 thanks to leaked renders. Additionally, the Pixel Stand makes its first appearance, while the Vivo V9 Pro launches in India and more.

We’d love feedback on this post, so please let us know what you think in the comments. If we can improve in some way, we’d love to know!

LG V40 renders reveal a triple camera setup and more

We are just a week away from the official unveiling of the LG V40 and the leaks are coming out of the woodworks. This time around, @evleaks shared a new render of the AT&T version of the handset.

From the render we can see the triple camera setup that will be found on the rear. The LED flash will be placed to the right of the module, which all is above the rear-mounted scanner.

We don’t have a good look at the entire front of the screen from these renders. However, you will find a dual-front-facing camera system found at the top of the device.

Finally, the display also shares a date of November 16th, which likely falls in line with a possible launch date. LG will be holding its next event on October 3rd, where we will learn more.

Google Maps adds “Group Planning Shortlists” on iOS and Android

Earlier this week, an update was rolled out for Google Maps which suggested potential parking spots. Now, Google has introduced another new feature which will benefit you and your friends.

Group Planning Shortlists is rolling out to iOS and Android users starting now. This feature allows you to create a list of places and share them with a group.

From there, your invitees will be able to vote on the possible places to go, or add more suggestions. Then, a floating bubble will appear while you are searching for places in Google Maps.

OnePlus 6T renders reveal water-drop notch and much more

The next month is about to be rather busy as new handsets are coming from LG, Google, and OnePlus. The OnePlus 6T is one of the most highly-anticipated devices as there are some major changes in the works.

We have seen a few leaks and renders recently, but the latest gives us a look at the 6T from every angle. The renders revealed show that the 6T will sport a water-drop notch, while removing the rear-mounted fingerprint scanner.

Read more: What we know: OnePlus 6T

This falls in line with confirmation from OnePlus that its next device would sport a display-embedded fingerprint scanner. However, the rest of the device looks to mostly keep the same design from the OnePlus 6.

Leaked documentation has suggested that the 6T will be revealed at an event on October 17th. However, we are also hoping to see a partnership with T-Mobile for the first time.

The rumored Pixel stand makes its first appearance in renders

Back in the beginning of September, a developer discovered a UI for an unknown product known as the Pixel Stand. With the myriad of leaks surrounding the Pixel 3 and 3 XL, we have learned more.

However, up until now, we had not seen any renders of the Pixel Stand itself. Thanks to MySmartPrice, there’s a leaked image of the supposed stand from the bottom with the charging cable and rubber pad.

The Pixel Stand is expected to be the OEM wireless charger from Google for its latest devices. If this is the real deal, then it would confirm that the Pixel 3 lineup would be the first Pixel devices to sport wireless charging.

Google is set to unveil the Pixel 3 lineup and more at an event on October 9th.

Android Messages tips and tricks you need to know

0

There are so many different messaging platforms these days, it’s sometimes to keep up with the latest announcements. WhatsApp, Facebook Messenger, Instagram – these are just a few examples.

But there’s one messaging platform that still works on every single phone out there and that’s SMS/text messaging. Unfortunately, many of the default SMS apps that are pre-loaded on phones are often not that good. The good news is that there are plenty of alternatives out there starting with Google’s own Android Messages service.

The app comes pre-loaded on Pixel devices and several other phones, but if yours doesn’t come with it on board, you can easily download it on your device. The service is clean, simple to use and RCS-compliant. What’s more, it includes some features you might not be using just yet — and you definitely should.

Add a subject to your text

When you’re writing an SMS message, you don’t usually get a lot of options. Well in Android Messages you do have some extra functions available.

For example, you can add a Subject to your text and mark it as Urgent. To do so, write your message and instead of pressing Send, long-press on it. This will have the effect of bringing up the Subject option on top of the text box.

Opting to add a Subject will make the text behave as an MMS, although the recipient should see it as a normal text.

Easily block someone

Someone bothering you? With Android Messages, you can easily block someone. And there are two ways to go about that.

Either you can long press on the conversation and then tap on the Block button that looks like a circle with a strike-through that appears on top.

Or you can open up the conversation, tap on the three-dot menu in the top right corner and tap on People & Options. Choose “Block & report spam”.

In both cases, a pop-up will show up stating the following:

You won’t receive calls or text from X. This conversation will be archived”.

You can also choose to report the number, in which case “the spammer’s last message (up to 10) and their number go to Google. Their last SMS may go to your carrier.”

Send money/share your location

Green Bot

Android Messages lets you easily share photos and search for stickers when you’re having a conversation. But there are more options hidden in there which you might want to explore like for example:

  • Send/Request money via Google Pay (if you’ve set up your Pay app)
  • Share your location
  • Record a short video message

Switch to Dark Mode with a single tap

Following Android 9.0 Pie release, Google has also been busy updating some of its Android system apps including Google Phone and Android Messages.

In Messages the search giant has introduced a new Dark Mode that changes the app’s overall color scheme to black. It’s quite simple to switch to the new theme.

In the app tap on the right-hand three-dot menu and choose Enable dark mode from there. If you want to go back to the previous Light them, access the three-dot menu again and tap on Disable dark mode. It’s that easy!

Archive old threads

If SMS is still your main form of communication with others, you’ll message list will probably get clutted fast. Android Messages gives you the option to clean up your inbox without actually getting rid of your messages for good.

So instead of sending them into perpetual oblivion, you can simply archive them and make them disappear from view.

To do so, long press a conversation and then tap on archive button that appears in the top-right corner. Once you’ve archived a few conversations, you can tap on the three-dot menu in the top right and tap on Archived to view or restore them.

Text from the web

If you ever used WhatsApp for Web, Android Messages for web works in similar fashion. You will need to go to messages.android.com on your computer. Here you’ll see a big QR Code on the right side of the page.

Open up your Android Messages on your phone and tap the three-dot icon in the top right. Tap on Messages for Web and next on Scan QR code. Point the camera at the QR code on the other device. In a second or two, the two should be linked up. And you’ll notice all your conversations will start showing up in the left column of your browser window.

Upcoming feature

Android Messages will soon get an extended search feature which will make it easier for users to search through old conversations.

You’ll only have to tap the search icon and select a specific contact to see your messaging history with them including one-on-one conversations, but also the photos, videos and links you’ve shared in-between.

The feature should start rolling out to users as soon as this week.

Gear Up: Eufy wants to help create the best smart home experience

0

Over the last few years, we have been seeing an enormous surge in the number of smart home products. These aren’t just limited to smart speakers or light bulbs, but we have more products now than ever before.

Read more: Anker Soundcore Flare+ Review

There’s a chance that you have never heard of Eufy before, but you’ll likely be hearing that name a lot more in the future. Eufy is a sub-brand of Anker, the popular charger and headphone maker.

Eufy’s focus is primarily based on smart home products, and its motto is “Smart Home Simplified”. In the past, we have seen products such as the RoboVac, Eufy Genie, and more. Today, we’re taking a look at a few of the other offerings from Eufy and Anker.

Eufy Smart Plug | $22.99

The most simplistic way to make your “dumb” home smart is to install a few smart plugs. Eufy offers two different versions, with a larger regular version, and a smaller version dubbed the Smart Plug Mini.

We were lucky enough to get our hands on the standard Eufy Smart Plug, which does not require any type of hub. This will replace a single outlet in your power strip or wall outlet but is a bit bulky so you’ll have to use it in the right place.

Installation is extremely easy, but as is the case with all of Eufy’s products, you’ll need to install the EufyHome app from the Play Store. This app allows you to turn the Smart Plug on and off from your smartphone.

Once you have paired the app with the Smart Plug, you will be able to view a few different pieces of information:

  • Energy Usage
  • Total Runtime
  • Create Schedules
  • Set a Timer
  • Activate ‘Away Mode’

You get all of this in a package that is priced at just $22.99 and is available from Amazon now.

Lumos Smart Bulb | $34.99

Smart light bulbs are a product category that I had never really considered until the Philips Hue system was introduced. However, the issue with Philips is that you need a hub and all of this extra stuff just to get your lights on.

The Eufy Lumos Smart Bulb doesn’t require any of that, provided that you have Wi-Fi and the aforementioned EufyHome app. While there are several smart light bulb offerings from Eufy, we have the White & Color tunable version.

After the Smart Bulb has been paired with your app, then you can adjust the intensity and color of the bulb itself. There are even schedules that can be created so that your light is on when you walk in the door.

This wouldn’t be a smart home product if there weren’t some type of voice controls included. The Lumos Smart Bulb is compatible with both Google Assistant and Amazon Alexa so you can turn everything on with your voice.

The Eufy Lumos Smart Bulb is available now for just $34.99 with free Prime one-day shipping.

Eufy BodySense Smart Scale | $39.99

While it’s great and everything to turn lights and other electronics on with your voice, what about your body? As someone who suffers from weight issues, it’s important to keep track of what’s going on.

The BodySense Smart Scale has Bluetooth built-in so that it will communicate with the EufyLife app. After it has been calibrated for the first time and you step on it, there will be all kinds of information displayed.

Of course, you will be able to view your weight on the scale itself with the LCD display. However, the BodySense scale measures the following:

  • BMI
  • Body Fat Percentage
  • Water intake
  • Bone Mass
  • BMR
  • Visceral Fat
  • Muscle

There is even more information provided by the app, of which you will be able to view at just a glance. All of this will help you to figure out how to get to your ideal weight and if there are any issues you should discuss with your doctors.

Other smart scales on the market can cost an arm and a leg. However, the Eufy BodySense Smart Scale is priced at just $39.99 with free one-day Prime shipping.

What we know so far: Huawei Mate 20 and Mate 20 Pro

0

October is going to be a very interesting month for smartphone lovers, as a handful of Android OEMs are gearing up to introduce new flagship devices. Among them is Huawei who has scheduled a press event in London on October 16, during which the company is expected to officially introduce the Mate 20 series.

The rumor mill hasn’t been lacking when it comes to giving us a glimpse of the purported specs and features of the upcoming duo, so below you’ll find all the things we (kinda) know about the Mate 20 and Mate 20 Pro collected in one place.

Design

A lot of leaks centering the Mate 20 and its more premium brother, the Mate 20 Pro have come to us via XDA Developers. Most of this info comes from renders of the Mate 20 based on the verified photos from an engineering sample of the phone, which the publication has published.

The images revealed the Mate 20 might come with 6.3-inch LCD display with a very tiny notch on top that appears to be teardrop-shaped (this appears to be quite unlikely at this point).

It was originally believed that the Mate 20 will bring an in-display fingerprint sensor, but according to a leaked image showing a pre-production unit, the flagship will continue to have an authentication sensor on the back.

XDA also revealed the back of the phone will be made of glass, so it will be capable of wireless charging.

Huawei Mate 20 or Mate 20 Pro

As for the Huawei Mate 20 Pro, The Bell reports that the handset will feature a ginormous 6.9-inch OLED notched display, as well as an in-display fingerprint sensor. In this case the notch will be significantly bigger compared to the P20 series due to the Face ID-like technology that it incorporates, in addition the in-ear speaker and front-facing camera.

Mate 20 Pro case render

As we can see in the latest leaked case render leaks, the Mate 20 Pro will benefit from a regular notch. Nevertheless it could be still possible that the regular Mate 20 will come with a teardrop-shaped-one.

Update 09/25/2018: This week we get to take an even clearer look at the Huawei Mate 20 Pro, as seen in this batch of official-looking press renders. According to the images, the phone will be available in Black, Blue and Twilight (via WinFuture).

What are the rumored internal specs?

While Huawei did not launch the Mate 20 and Mate 20 Pro at IFA in Berlin last month, it did announce the SoC on which they are both going to be based: the Kirin 980.

The company debuted its ambitious plans to work with neural networking (or AI) in smartphones last year with the NPU (neural processing unit) in the 970. Now, Huawei is doubling down on its efforts on the Kirin 980, which is based on a 7nm process, by implementing a dual NPU setup.

At launch, Huawei boasted the new processor will feature a 75% improvement in power and 58% upgrade in efficiency over the previous generation. The new Kirin chip also promises major photography performance upgrades.

The Chinese company says the 980 is using a new dual ISP (imagine signal processor) which allows it to be 46% faster at camera processing. Users are also likely to notice improvements in power efficiency (23%) while recording and latency (33%).

According to tech blogger, Ronald Quandt, the Mate 20 will ship out with 6GB of RAM and 128GB of storage. If we are to believe GizmoChina, the more powerful Mate 20 Pro will quite possibly benefit from 8GB of RAM.

When it comes to batteries, once again the XDA Developers suggest the Mate 20 will include a 4,200 mAh battery. As for the Mate 20 Pro, it might come with an even larger power source.

Given that the standard Mate 20 is expected to feature wireless charging, the Mate 20 Pro will also most likely benefit from this option.

Cameras

Perhaps the most intriguing aspect of the Mate 20 series is going to be the main camera. As it appears, the phones will feature a rounded square camera housing which Huawei teased recently in a video.

The use of the square camera shell indicates at least one of the models will feature a tri-lens rear camera with a lens in each corner and the flash in the fourth. Previously, the P20 Pro also featured a triple camera on the back, but it was arranged in a different fashion.

According to sources, the setup will bring forth an improvement, packing a main 48MP sensor instead of the 40MP one on the P20 Pro. This lens setup combined with the Kirin 980 chip, will offer real-time image processing and scene recognition.

What else should you know about the Mate 20 duo?

Well, some sources have suggested the phones will feature some kind of IP rating for protection against water and dust. Moreover, both will launch with Android 9.0 Pie out of the box, with Huawei’s proprietary EMUI skin on top.

On top of that, it appears Hauwei plans to launch a pair of AirPods-like wireless headphones. Called the Freebuds 2 Pro, the audio accessories will support Hi-Res audio, have Google Assistant on board and AI to help with noise reduction.

But the coolest part is that users will apparently be able to recharge their Freebuds by placing them on the back of the Mate 20.

The Huawei Mate 20 duo will all of their upgrades are highly unlikely to be priced the same as their predecessors. The Mate 10 launched with a €700 price tag, while the Pro version was offered for around €800. The US only got the Pro version, which initially retailed for $800.

So will the Mate 20 reach the €1,000 / $1,000 threshold? It’s quite possible the Pro model will. Given that Mate phablets are usually more expensive than P series smartphones, and that the P20 Pro sells for around €900, we do expect the Mate 20 duo to be quite expensive. So you better start saving if you want one of these babies!

Sprint’s prepaid brand, Boost Mobile has updated its portfolio of devices with a new affordable option.

Starting this week, customers can grab the LG K30 from the carrier in exchange for $150. Obviously for this price, the device packs pretty basic specs.

You get a 5.3-inch IPS LCD display with 720p resolution and the classic 16:9 aspect ratio. The product is powered by a 1.4GHz quad-core Snapdragon 425, backed up by a 2GB of RAM and 32GB of internal storage. For those who need more, LG has also included a microSD card slot for memory expansion up to 512GB.

The LG K30 also packs a very traditional 13MP/5MP camera combo, as well as a fingerprint scanner which is mounted on the back. Rounding up the package is a 2,880 mAh battery which prove enough to support a full day of use. According to Boost’s website, the phone runs Android 8.1 Oreo out of the box, although LG’s own website lists it as having Android 7.1 Nougat.

In case that for some reason you don’t like Sprint’s prepaid brand, we should also note that the LG K30 is also available for purchase with Amazon and T-Mobile.

Boost wants you to switch

Boost Mobile is also hoping to attract a new crop of subscribers this autumn with a new promotion. If you decide to switch to boost, Boost Mobile will allow you to get four lines for $25/month each.

Until November 15, folks who head into a Boost Mobile store and jump on board with the carrier’s Unlimited Gigs plan with four lines will be able to take advantage of unlimited, talk and text for $25/month per line. On top of that, the bundle also includes 4G LTE data, 50 minutes of nationwide domestic roaming and unlimited streaming music (with data charges for select partners).

So if you feel like you had enough of your carrier, maybe it’s time to consider Boost’s offering. But don’t take forever to do so. You can only do so until November 15.
