This $40 training bundle will help you join the ranks of in-demand cloud admins

0

It’s not a reach to suggest that cloud computing is among the hottest sectors in all of tech. Everywhere you look you find an app, game, or service that relies on the cloud.

While you might think that Amazon Web Services (AWS) is the king of the hill right now, it’s not. Sure, they just pulled in nearly $8 billion per quarter, but that’s nothing compared to what Microsoft is doing with Azure. AWS grew at a 40% rate over last year but Azure is up even more.

Businesses, and individuals alike, are moving to the cloud whenever and wherever possible. To that end, having an understanding of what each of those platforms does and how to leverage them, is valuable. Knowing how to build, grow, and maintain a cloud-based network for Microsoft Azure, AWS, and  CCNA Routing and Switching, and more.

The Essential Cloud & Networking Certification Training Bundle is just $39 right now, a savings of some 97 percent, from the AndroidGuys Deals Store.

Spanning five courses and almost 100 hours of instruction, this bundle covers every facet of running computer systems from the cloud, regardless of the platform. This coursework offers nearly 250 lessons and practical training for users in the equipment, tools, and structures to be a certified cloud expert.

Cloud computing courses include:

  • CCNA Routing & Switching Training
  • AWS Certified Solutions Architect – Associate
  • Implementing Microsoft Azure Infrastructure Solutions (70-533) Training Course
  • Graphical Network Simulator-3 (GNS3) Training
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel Training

As you know, certification is always important in professional development and hiring. These courses are designed to help you pass key certification testing with the major cloud platforms, but they also offer their own certificates, too.

At 97 percent off its standard value, this collection gives you all this in-depth training for just $8 per course. It’s a dirt cheap bargain for anyone motivated to earn an understanding of cloud-based technologies.

Reviewing the xFyro Aria true wireless earbuds

0

The true wireless earbuds space seems to grow by the week with new brands and models arriving all the time.

On the high end of the market are products like the Sony WF-1000XM3, Apple AirPods Pro, and Master & Dynamic MW07 Plus. On the low end are myriad competitors racing to the bottom with sub-$50 offerings.

While it might be nice to snag a pair of headphones or earphones at that price, you might find yourself replacing them before long. We essentially view these as “disposable”, giving them maybe a year or two of life.

What about the middle of the pack? Somewhere in the mid-range are products like the xFyro Aria. Priced about $125, they’re a pair of waterproof and dustproof earbuds with up to eight hours of playback per charge.

We were privileged to receive a pair of the xFyro Aria ahead of the holiday season and spent a few weeks with them. Here, we put forth our impressions of the earbuds.

What’s in the Box?

  • xFyro Aria earbuds
  • Magnetic charging and carrying case
  • 3 pairs of silicone eartips
  • 2 pairs of ear wings
  • MicroUSB cable
  • User manual

Built Quality and Design

Dressed in all black, and offered with a black carrying case, the earbuds don’t do a whole lot to visually stand out from the crowd. The earbuds have a slightly tapered shape and take up a minimal amount of space, but they’re a little flat and uninspired.

While they’re not the most beautiful or elegant, they’ve got it where it counts. The IP67 rating, for instance, protects against water and dust, something that even pricier models do not include.

There’s no physical button on the exterior of the earbuds but the panel does offer controls for playback and volume. Using a series of single or double taps one can advance music and also prompt Google Assistant or Siri.

The carrying case is another example of simple and otherwise plain design, but that’s not why you buy earphones. The case does have a nice magnetic construction to it and the earbuds snap into place quite nicely. Charging is done via microUSB and takes about two hours.

Other Features

The xFyro Aria are Bluetooth 5.0 which means easier pairing, longer distance from the source, and more secure connection. Given it’s 2020, we expect to see this standard across the mid-range and upper end but it’s not always guaranteed. We’re glad this corner was not cut.

The earphones are good for up to eight hours of music playback per charge; the carrying case is rated for up to 24 hours. With a total of 32 hours of listening time, this is more than sufficient for a pair of earphones that are used for commutes and/or workouts. We can imagine charging the case maybe once a week, and that’s really just to be safe.

There are multiple ear tips and included in the box so finding the perfect fit is essentially guaranteed. And if you’re using them for running or time at the gym, consider one of the two sets of ear wings.

Performance

As it pertains to audio, the xFyro Aria skew a little toward the mid and bass. Treble and highs are not as present as we might have liked, particularly in “busy” music. To be fair, a lot of people like that sort of sound. Speaking generally, we’re good with it, but do recognize where it leans into the low end.

Battery life is fantastic at eight hours per charge. The carrying case with another three charges is equally commendable stuff. Realistically, you might only charge the case itself maybe once a week, if that. If you’re just using them for a half hour commute to and from work, you’ll get a month’s worth of juice.

Speaking of which, we like the way the earbuds snap into the case, ensuring they sit snugly inside. We might have preferred USB Type-C charging or even wireless capability. Thankfully, they’re not alone in keeping the microUSB standard around so finding cables isn’t an issue.

There are no LED indicator lights on the exterior of the charging case but there are four LEDs on the inside. You can see how much juice is left within a range of 25 percent.

The xFyro Aria earbuds use noise isolation and noise cancellation to help eliminate background noise and stop sound leaking. We were impressed with how well this worked and found it keeps ambient noise from sneaking into your listening experience.

Conclusion

The xFyro Aria are certainly worth their money, and should be on your short list of earbuds if shopping with a budget of about $100.

There’s plenty to like here, particularly the battery life of the carrying case. And when it does come time to charge up, just 15 minutes is all it takes to add around three hours of playback.

Sound is good, even if it’s a little heavy on the bass a times, but it’s right in line with our expectations. It’s pretty easy to get used to, and is easily forgiven.

The earbuds are comfortable out of the box, but users might appreciate making an adjustment up or down in size. More active listeners will want to try the ear hooks/wings just for the extra security or stabilization.

We also like the Google Assistant/Siri integration, waterproof protection, and noise cancellation.

Consider Ampere’s charging solutions for your mobile gadgets

0

Now that the holidays have come and gone, chances are good that you might be the proud owner of some new tech. Maybe it’s a new phone or laptop. Perhaps its a Nintendo Switch or digital camera. Whatever it is, you’re going to have to keep it charged.

Ampere Tech, an upstart brand that’s made some waves on Kickstarter, is a company you might want to keep an eye on. Its portfolio is quickly growing with a focus on charging solutions. Be it portable, wired, wireless, or a combination, its products are worth a look.

We were sent a number of accessories from Ampere Tech and had the chance to put them to the test over the last few weeks. What follow are details about the products (60W USB-C PD Adapter, Unravel 3+1 Wireless Charger, and USB-C Travel Charger for Apple Watch) and our impressions of each.

60W USB-C PD Adapter ($50)

When you have a laptop, Chromebook, or something else that requires Power Delivery (PD) charging, you want as much juice as possible. Moreover, you don’t want a short cable that keeps you confined within a small area next to an outlet.

The 60W USB-C PD Adapter gives users up to 60W of power for USB Type-C devices, but also adjusts downward based on other gadgets. Contrast that with Google’s own, and more expensive, Pixelbook charger which maxes out at 45W.

The charger also have a conveniently lengthy cable which measure in at two meters, or about 6.7-feet. It’s perfect for tucking behind a desk or couch for charging up a phone while binge watching TV or knocking out emails on the laptop.

Rounding this one out, there’s a Quick Charge 3.0 USB A port on the face which lets you juice up any other mobile tech you’got lying about.

Unravel 3+1 Wireless Charger ($100)

A real success on Kickstarter, this unit is a wireless charging station with three Qi pads. That’s not overkill, that’s practical. Many of our phones and devices now feature the charging standard so it makes sense to support multiple handsets.

Rather than go with a flat and uninspired design, the Ravel folds up in a compact, travel-friendly shape. Additionally, it can be set up to work as a phone stand so you can keep your handset in a convenient orientation.

So what’s the +1 part? That’s the USB Type-C output port that’s located on the side edge. Use that, plus the three Qi spots, and you’re looking at a 4-in-1 charger.

Pick this one up in six different color options: Fire Emoji Red, Glow in the Dark, Pure Black, Sky Blue, Coral, and Navy. If you’re a frequent international traveler, consider picking up the kit with a world plug set for about ten bucks more.

USB-C Travel Charger for Apple Watch ($40)

You’ve portable chargers and wall adapters with USB C ports, so why not take advantage of it for your Apple Watch? This unit has a short cable that’s just a few inches long which means easy travel.

Plug it into a laptop, power bank, or the aforementioned Unravel 3+1’s output and you’ll have a convenient alternative to the charger that came with your Apple Watch.

Xcentz 45W PD Power Adapter review

0

The move from microUSB to USB Type-C is slow-going, but it’s happening for certain. Nearly all major phone makers have adopted the standard across the board and it’s trickling into laptops, tablets, and game consoles.

While it’s nice that our devices come with cables and chargers, sometimes they’re just basic, boring, and underwhelming. Sometimes they’re not as powerful as they could be. And then there’s always the fact that having an extra charger is nice.

If you’re on the hunt for an extra USB Type-C charger, consider the Xcentz 45W USB-C Power Adapter. It’s a more than sufficient replacement; it’s an affordable power solution for a whole array of devices.

What is the Xcentz 45W USB-C Power Adapter?

It is a charger that houses a USB-C port that puts out an incredibly fast and efficient 45W Power Delivery. It’s compact at around 2.5-inches on two sides and around one inch wide. Realistically, it doesn’t take up much more space than what you’re currently getting from your charger. It’s just much more powerful.

What’s in the box?

  • Xcentz 45W USB-C Power Adapter
  • User manual

Who is the Xcentz 45W USB-C Power Adapter for?

Anyone who cares about efficient charging for their phones, tablets, Nintendo Switch, digital camera, etc.

People who spend a lot of time in coffee shops, libraries, or hotel rooms will enjoy having a dual-purpose charger for laptops and phones.

Our thoughts

Having seen our fair share of chargers and cables over the years, it’s tough to sound excited or enthusiastic about them. Do they work? Are they affordable? Great, that’s about it.

With that said, we do find ourselves really happy with this charger. Given we’re often charging a phone, Chromebook, Pixelbook, Nintendo Switch and or something else, we like the flexibility. It’s great to have an extra charger lying around the house, but it’s even better when the charger is fast and powerful.

Like the Xcentz 36W USB Charger, it’s stylish and sports a modern looking design. Available in black or white options, the charger looks good in any environment and travels well.

There’s an 18-month warranty that comes with the charger, which is about six months longer than what others do. That’s peace of mind, and worth a few bucks on its own.

We love the price point of the charger, which is currently just $26 at Amazon.

Should I buy the Xcentz 45W USB-C Power Adapter?

Yes. This one is priced to sell and comes with a customer-friendly warranty behind it.

Three reasons to buy

  • Price
  • 18-month warranty
  • Incredibly fast charging

One reason to reconsider

  • Unfamiliar brand for some

We’ve had a chance to play with other Xcentz products and feel they’re definitely worth a look. Thus far our wall charger has been a pleasure to use for phones and Chromebooks.

Where can I buy the Xcentz 45W USB-C Power Adapter?

Learn more about the Xcentz 45W USB-C Power Adapter and/or purchase one at Amazon. It is listed at $26 at the time of publication.

LARQ Bottle review

0

No matter how much money you spend on them, there’s a truism that comes with water bottles: they are a pain in the ass to clean. Sure, some keep water cold for much longer, but they’re still going to suck when it is time to clean it out.

What happens when you can’t reach beyond the neck of that bottle? It doesn’t get cleaned. Sure, the first inch or two is nice and easily reachable, but there’s no way to get to the bottom. Not efficiently.

Half-cleaned water bottles are a breeding ground for viruses and bacteria. Ever grab an old bottle that was only used for water and give it a sniff? That smell is nasty. And you’re drinking it up.

LARQ Bottle

The LARQ Bottle ($95) is billed as the world’s first self-cleaning water bottle and purification system. Indeed, it promises to purify your drinking water in 60 seconds using UV-C LED light technology. It’s the same stuff used to sanitize and disinfect in hospitals. According to its maker, it’s able to purify up to 99.9999% of bio-contaminants.

“The LARQ Bottle is revolutionary not only in its design and technology, but also in how it can affect our dependence on single-use plastic. LARQ’s advanced technology aims to disrupt consumer behavior to help battle dependence on single-use plastic, while providing access to clean drinking water on-the-go.” – Justin Wang, LARQ CEO

The LARQ Bottle and its lid (with microUSB port) are waterproof; the bottle is mercury-, BPA-, and phthalate-free and doesn’t require any sort of filter. That means no extra pieces or components to replace (or lose).

To help ensure the UV-C LED technology is as efficient as possible, the inside of the bottle is made from 18/8 stainless steel. This reflects the light and distributes it in all directions, even passing it through water and getting to places your hands can’t reach.

On the outside, the LARQ bottle is double-walled and vacuum sealed, and can keep water cold for up to 24 hours. Put a hot beverage in there and it’s good to hold that temp for up to 12 hours.

LARQ Bottle

  • Measures: 9.6 inches high by 2.7 inches wide
  • Weighs 13.5 oz
  • Holds 17 oz (500mL)
  • Constructed from BPA-free polished stainless steel (BPA free)
  • Rechargeable (Lithium Polymer) battery
  • Charging colors and indicators:
    • Breathing green: Charging
    • Steady green:  Fully charged
    • Breathing sky blue: Normal mode purifying and cleaning
    • Pulsing blue light: Adventure Mode purifying and cleaning
    • Pulsing orange: Safety Mode
    • Steady yellow light: Low battery
    • Pulsing red light: Something’s wrong – file a warranty claim

The LARQ Bottle is available in five colors: Monaco Blue, Obsidian Black, Seaside Mint, Granite White, and Himalayan Pink. A “Benefit Aware” variant is also offered in Sahara Gold with 100% of each purchase going to Well Aware.

Usage

To get started, simply plug in the water bottle via its USB cable.  Once fully charged, you can unlock the bottle by holding down the cap for five seconds whereupon the light ring blinks white. Time to add water.

A quick reminder here – the bottle purifies water but does not filter it. You’ll still want to use the cleanest source of water possible.

Once you have your water in the bottle you can press the cap once for Normal Mode or twice for Adventure Mode. You’ll see the ring light up blue to indicate it’s working; lightly shake the bottle to swirl water to pass it through the UV-C light.

After 60 seconds you’ll have neutralized the odor-causing bacteria and bio-contaminants. Should you go with Adventure Mode it takes three minutes for the UV exposure. It’s recommended that you opt for Adventure Mode if you’re water is from a source that’s not man-made or if you’re unsure of its origin.

Other Notes

The LARQ bottle automatically activates every two hours to run for just 10 seconds, ensuring bacteria doesn’t have an opportunity to take hold.

While the inside of the bottle is pretty much all taken care of, you should still wash the cap/mouth piece. Anywhere you can reach is added bonus.

Travel Mode can be set for when traveling by plane which deactivates the automatic cleaning. Likewise, a Safety Mode stops accidental activation of the UV-C LED light if the cap isn’t properly secured.

Conclusion

At $95 it’s a lot of money for what’s likely viewed as “just a water bottle.” But, give it a little extra consideration and you’ll understand the benefits are there.

LARQ indicates the bottle is built to handle 100,000 cycles so the re-use is very high. Moreover, it retains the temperature quite well, keeping things nice and cold for a long time.

There’s also something to be said about the peace of mind in not having to clean the bottle.  Likewise, you don’t have to worry about any weird smells or odd taste to your water.

The battery life is really impressive, too, providing up to one month or longer per charge. Further, microUSB isn’t going anywhere anytime soon so you’ll have plenty of cables around the home or office.

Then there’s the concept of being a responsible citizen. Why bother buying all those plastic bottles that will never decompose? Even if you purchased one a week at $1 each you’d have spent $100 over two years. The LARQ bottle is designed to last longer than that, and it hold temps.

It doesn’t hurt that the bottle looks cool, too. It’s easy to make functional and practical things ugly. We appreciate that LARQ put as much focus as it did when it comes to aesthetics.

Availability

Learn more about the LARQ Bottle at its website where you can also purchase one in a variety of colors. Should you want or need a larger bottle, a 25 ounce version is available for about $23 more, or $118 in total.

Verizon picks up the rough and tumble Samsung Galaxy XCover Pro

0

Samsung this week introduced the Galaxy XCover Pro, a rugged smartphone bound for Verizon later this year. Priced $500, it’s due “in the first half of 2020”.

The Galaxy XCover Pro fills a void that was once occupied by Samsung’s “Active” line of phones. Around for just a few generations, it was a rugged, durable take on the flagship Galaxy S series of phones.

The Samsung Galaxy XCover Pro is its own experience and fits nicely in the middle of the hardware pack. It features a 6.3-inch FHD+ Infinity Display which works in all weather conditions; it recognizes touch even with gloves on.

Other specifications include a Samsung Exynos processor paired with 4GB RAM. It has 64GB of internal storage and supports memory cards up to 512GB.

The Galaxy XCover has a 4,050mAh removable battery which support 15W fast charging and charging docks with pogo pins. Additionally, it houses NFC, a fingerprint reader on the side edge, and two programmable buttons, one of which is used for push-to-talk walkie-talkie feature.

As for cameras, the Galaxy XCover has a 25-megapixel main shooter with a 13-megapixel sensor on the front.

The main draw here is its IP68 rating. Water and dust resistant, the phone can withstand drops of up to 1.5m, even without a case. The MIL-STD 810G rating certifies it against extreme altitude, humidity, and other severe environmental conditions.

Zamkol ZK202 speaker review

0

Bluetooth speakers are everywhere. You’ve likely owned one or two along the way, and surely you know a few people who have them, too. They come in all shapes, sizes, and price points, and there’s a whole range of features to choose from.

While we’re tempted to purchase from brands that we recognize or see in others people’s homes, every so often it’s worth exploring something new. If a new Bluetooth speaker is something you’re in the market for, consider something like the Zamkol ZK202.

What is the Zamkol ZK202?

A cylindrical speaker, it’s a speaker that offers 360-degree sound from both wired and wireless connections. There’s also a microSD card slot; the speaker automatically plays MP3, WAV, FLAC, and APE file types.

It’s IPX6 rated so it can stand up to a fair amount of water, making it a perfect shower or poolside companion.

The internal battery is rated for up to 10 hours of playback per charge. When it’s time to charge the speaker, plug it in via USB C.

Pairing is done via Bluetooth 5.0 which is not only smarter and more efficient, but provides a longer range. Feel free to put your phone or audio source away and keep it protected from splashes.

The ZK202 has TWS capabilities so you can pair it to another one, giving yourself true stereo sound.

What’s in the box?

  • Zamkol ZK202
  • User manual
  • 3.5mm auxiliary cord
  • USB C charging cable

Who is the Zamkol ZK202 for?

Consumers looking for a speaker to take with them to the shower might be interested in this one. It takes up about the same counter space as a large energy drink or soda can, just a little taller.

It’s also a good option for people who might have small studio offices such as massage therapy, yoga, or the like.

Should someone buy two of them, the ZK202 is good for birthday parties, social gatherings, back yard barbecues, and lazy days at the pool.

Our thoughts

Given we’d never heard of the brand, we didn’t know what to expect out of the ZK202. That said, we felt there’s plenty of bang for the buck.

Sound is clear and bass is represented well, but we might have enjoyed a little louder audio experience. The 360-degree sound lives up to the claim as there’s no real clear direction to face the speaker. If only it had a little more punch. On the other hand, the feature set also justifies the price.

We appreciate the IPX6 rating and ability to pair to another one for true stereo as these open the door to a wider use case. The ability to play music directly from a microSD card is also a nice touch and not one that’s seen very often.

We really like the dial control for volume at the top of the speaker as it’s an intuitive way to increase or decrease levels. The physical buttons, for their part, are also pronounced and have a solid travel and feedback.

Another area where we appreciate the ZK202 is in its ability to tie into your phone’s digital assistant like Google Assistant or Siri. It’s not revolutionary or anything, but once you start to get used to it, you want it everywhere. The same goes for the oft-overlooked ability to take calls.

Should I buy the Zamkol ZK202?

Yes. This one is priced to sell and works as well as others we’ve tested in this price.

Four reasons to buy

  • Price
  • Digital assistant integration
  • Convenient size
  • IPX6 rating

One reason to reconsider

  • Unfamiliar brand
  • Not as loud as others

Where can I buy the Zamkol ZK202?

Learn more about the Zamkol ZK202 speaker and/or purchase one at Amazon. It is listed at $56 at the time of publication. As of today it’s not mentioned on the Zamkol website; it’s likely too new.
