Verizon launches Yahoo Mobile with $40 unlimited rate plan

Verizon this week introduced a new wireless service known as Yahoo Mobile. Using the now 25-year-old brand, it will operate on Verizon’s 4G LTE network, but provide its own rate plan, customer service, and features.

For $39.99 per month, customers receive unlimited talk, text, and data. Further, they’ll also get a free Yahoo ad-free (Yahoo Mail Pro) email account, which is valued at $40 per year. Also included in the plan are mobile hotspot for sharing data with other devices; speeds are limited to 5Mbps and capped at one connected device at once.

As is the case with other Mobile Virtual Network Operators (MVNOs), data speeds may be slowed in times of congestion.

Yahoo Mobile can be purchased online and works with both Android and iPhones. Yahoo Mobile offers its own phone selection, which looks to be a decent mix of models from $50 up to $1,000.

Google readying Chromecast Ultra with Android TV, report indicates

Google is working on a successor to its Chromecast Ultra which will be based on Android TV, according to a 9to5google report.

The device, which is said to go by the code name of “Sabrina”, is expected to support 4K HDR content as well as Bluetooth and WiFi connectivity.

As is the case with the current Chromecast Ultra, the second-gen model will be a dongle that plugs directly into TV. Unlike the one available today, the new one should be paired with an external remote.

The remote control is reported to have a microphone, dedicated Google Assistant button, and support pairing to TVs. Naturally, the remote will also be used to navigate Android TV experience.

According to the source of the report, the forthcoming device will closely resemble the 3rd generation Chromecast but with a softer, more round finish.

This will mark the first time Google has offered up hardware for its Android TV experience in the form of a dongle.

With Google I/O cancelled, it’s hard to say exactly how or when Google might introduce the new device.

Motorola could deliver its first flagship phone in years with Edge+

It has been a few years since Motorola delivered a flagship smartphone experience. Sure, it has been plenty busy with various iterations of Moto E and Moto G series over the last couple of years, but the Moto Z3 and Z4 were as close as it gets. And depending on who you ask, neither were really contenders for moniker of “flagship”. Things looks to be changing in short order.

The rumor mill has been heating up lately with word of a Moto Edge+ phone, a device which figures to pack some serious hardware.

New pictures and specs have surfaced for the phone, pointing to something that not only looks great, but should perform as good as any others on the market. We’re talking high-end specifications and cutting edge cameras.

We fully expect to see this one sold in the US. Rumors so far suggest it could be sold as a Verizon exclusive, but we’d be surprised if a variant wasn’t made available unlocked.

As to when we will see this phone announced, it’s hard to say. With Mobile World Congress cancelled in late February, the whole mobile industry has had to make adjustments.

It was assumed that Motorola was ready to introduce the Moto Edge+ to the world then, but we’re now a few weeks beyond. As nice as it might be to hold a standalone press event with a fancy announcement, that’s probably not going to happen with the current state of health conditions.

It’s early March, which means we may be a few weeks (or months) away from Google introducing the successor to its Pixel 3a line. It also means it’s time for the leaks and rumors to ramp up.

Such is the case today as a 6-minute video has surfaced which might as well be the first review of the so-called Pixel 4a. Indeed, the device is shown off rather extensively, with specifications, details and looks at both the front and back.
