Lenovo’s gaming phone has a side-mounted pop-up camera, leaks suggest

0

Gaming phones are all the rage right now. With phones like the ASUS ROG phone, The Razer Phones, Xiaomi Black Shark series and many others were the first to set the trend. It seems that Lenovo is coming for a piece of the gaming phone market, but with a unique twis: a side-mounted pop-up camera. A first in the industry.

Lenovo’s gaming phone brings a twist to camera placement

Lenovo has been pretty hush on entering the gaming smartphone race. It seems that the company has been biding its time in innovation. Lenovo did tease their entry to their market earlier this year with a social media post on Weibo.

The phone could be called the Lenovo Legion, It touts some beefy specs which could rival some of the top-tier flagships in the market, and then some! While we are still short of the official specs, here is a look of what we can expect.

The specs are (Courtesy of 9to5google):

  • Qualcomm Snapdragon 865
  • UFS 3.0 Storage (possibly 128, 256 and 512GB variants)
  • 5000 mAh battery
  • 8/12/16GB of LPDDR5 RAM
  • 144Hz refresh rate (Speculated to be FHD+) on an O-LED or AMOLED panel
  • Android 10
  • 90-W USB-C charging
  • The back cameras have 64MP and 16MP sensors, placed at the middle of the phone.
  • The specs of the side-mounted camera are not yet known.

The placement for the pop-up camera could be placed to cater to live streamers who stream popular mobile games like PUBG, Call of Duty Mobile, and other popular games. It is a unique choice, but let’s see how it holds up in durability tests.

It also means that there is no punch-hole or notch to interrupt the screen space. It is a wise choice and does cater to the gamer market very significantly. Let’s keep our eyes and ears open for any official announcements from Lenovo in the coming days, and see if we hear anything about the phone.

While we don’t have a release date or price on the phone yet, we can speculate it costing anywhere between the $599 to $999 range. The Snapdragon 865 could be the icing on the cake to attract gamers to cement their purchase.

Anker has all your charging needs covered

We are big fans of Anker products here at AndroidGuys. The upstart company does a great job of making high-quality tech accessories and pairing them with reasonable prices. This combination should put their devices on the shortlist for anyone looking for charging needs.

The brand has recently expanded its portfolio with some new additions; we were privileged enough to have a chance to test a few out. Here’s a look at some of the current options.

Let’s start with charging at home while you have a full electrical outlet at your disposal. Anker has two great charging options, one wired and one wireless.

PowerPort Atom III 60W USB-C Charger

This new generation of power adapter is leveraging new technology around gallium nitride. That offers a new wave of power control and heat dissipation in a much smaller package than traditional lithium-based options.

The size will be your first takeaway when you remove the Atom III from the box. There’s no power brick. It’s basically just the prong plug alone and you then just use a USB-C to USB-C cable to deliver the juice.

With Anker’s IQ power delivery generation 3 you are only limited with output dependent on the cable you use. The internal silicon is intelligent enough to quick-charge up to the full fast charge at 60W all the way down to 5W charging depending on the limitations of the cable and connected device.

And you get all this at a very reasonable price! You can currently grab the PowerPort Atom III for just $42 on Amazon. This awesome charger gives you the flexibility to charge anything from your laptop to your smartphone in a compact design.

PowerWave II Wireless Charger

If you prefer to not have to bother with a cable every time you need to recharge your phone, then look no further than the PowerWave II Qi charger. This compact disk is a great addition to your charging needs.

Shaped like a small hockey puck with a nice anti-skid ring on the top it should fit into almost any environment. Either at work on your desk or next to your pillow on the nightstand the PowerWave II should fade away and just offer great functionality to charge your device.

It also offers that great Anker PowerIQ system to charger your phone at the best rate. If you need a quick refill at 15W then it’s got you covered. It also supports 5W, 7.5W, and 10W power delivery to make sure all your device needs are available.

My one knock on the PowerWave II is that the included charger is a proprietary barrel design. I’d much rather had seen a company so invested in USB-C standards find a more universal power port option.

Despite the non-universal port at $29.99, the PowerWave II is a great buy.

PowerCore Sense 10K Portable Bank

Maybe you need a little extra juice while on the go. A busy lifestyle of staying constantly connected has made a battery power bank an essential accessory these days. That’s where we’d recommend the new PowerCore Sense 10K from Anker.

The 10K is not a marathon reference in the traditional sense, but rather a tip to the mAh packed inside this power bank. To put that 10,000mAh metric into perspective, the average smartphone has somewhere between 3,000-4,000mAh capacities. This should get you at minimum 2 full charges while away from an outlet.

To wield this PowerCore Sense you have two charging ports: one USB-A and a USB-C. This gives you the opportunity to charge the PowerCore with either input or charge two separate devices simultaneously. The USB-C has the PowerIQ delivery system for up to 18W fast charging for supported phones.

The PowerCore Sense 10K also offers you a chance to show off a little personality. We were provided Sun-Kissed Coral but there are 3 other colors to choose: Steel Blue, Winter Sage, and Venitian Red. Each one is a vibrant variant to establish the look you prefer.

PowerCore 10k Wireless

Need the portable bank of the PowerCore Sense 10k, but also want Qi wireless charging to boot? Meet the PowerCore 10k Wireless. As you might imagine, it has a very similar design to the PowerCore Sense but has an additional USB-A port, and of course, wireless charging.

Sadly, the USB-C is for input only to recharge the PowerCore 10k Wireless. However, the two USB-A ports support up to 12W fast charging.

Wireless charging is also on the low-end, but again, no wires man. You will get 5W charging using the universal Qi pad portion. Much like the above mentioned PowerWave II, there’s a nice rubber ring that once you line it up with the phone, charging is pretty seamless.

The PowerCore Wireless also won’t break the bank. For $35.99 you get a multi-functional charger that can ultimately be used both at your desk and while on the go.

Go Get Em!

All these great items can be had from Amazon right now! If you need to add an accessory to your bag for charging our favorite devices, these from Anker should be on your shortlist. Each offers value and a good price for your needs.

Now more than ever cleanliness is paramount. We’re washing our hands more often, staying away from people, and sanitizing everything we touch.

There is one item, though, that is commonly overlooked — and it’s one we all carry around. And we touch it all day and even it put it to our face. We’re talking about our cell phones, of course. When was the last time you cleaned your phone, let alone sanitized it?

How to convert any web page or article into audio format on Android

If you are someone who likes to keep yourself updated with all the latest news and current trends but do not have the time or the patience to read through long articles or blog posts, then you would definitely happy to know that you can now convert all those long web pages and articles that you really wanted to read but skipped because you didn’t have the patience to go through, into an audio format by just using your Android phone.

By using this simple trick on your Android phone you no longer need to spend a lot of time trying to read an article you saw online and you can just convert it to an audio file and listen to it while you do some other work, thus increasing your productivity all the while keeping up with the current trends and the latest news or anything that you may like.

Just follow the below step by step instructions to convert any kind of web page or an article you find online on your Android phone into an audio file.

How to convert any web page or article into audio format on Android

Method 1: Using the Epic Privacy Browser app

Step 1:

First, download and install the Android app called Epic Privacy Browser from the Google Play Store on your Android phone.

You would be using this app to convert your favorite articles into audio format but the Epic privacy browser app can also be used for browsing the web without any ads, download videos from any website, and even use a secure VPN to privately surf the internet.

Step 2:

Once the app has been installed, launch the Epic Privacy Browser app from your app drawer and then accept the terms and conditions to proceed further.

Step 3:

You will now be taken to the main page of the Epic privacy browser app. From here, you can either directly search for and open the web page or the article you want to convert into an audio format or you can click any link from any other app installed on your phone and open it using the Epic privacy browser app.

Step 4:

Once you have opened the web page or the article you want to convert to audio format, just click on the settings icon at the top right corner of the app and then select the option, ‘Add to Audio Queue’.

Step 5:

Now go back to the settings menu and click on the option, ‘Audio Queue’ and you can find the article you selected to be converted into audio format over there. You can now listen to the web page or the article in audio format by clicking on the play button at the bottom of the page.

The audio will keep playing even if you leave the Epic privacy browser app, so you can just listen to the web page or the article in the audio format and continue doing other works you might have.

The app also allows you to add multiple pages to the audio queue and play them consecutively. You can also remove the web pages you have finished listening to or access the web page from the audio file directly from the Audio Queue page.

Method 2: Using Google Text-to-speech accessibility feature

If you don’t want to install a third-party application or would stick to the web browser app you are currently using on your Android phone, you can also convert your favorite web pages or articles into the audio format by using the built-in Google Text-to-speech feature installed on your Android phone. Just follow the below step by step instructions to do that.

Step 1:

Open the Settings app on your Android phone, go to the ‘Language and input’ settings page, and then select the ‘Text-to-speech’ output option.

google text-to-speech

Step 2:

Under the text-to-speech output page, select Google Text-to-speech Engine as the preferred engine and language as system language or any other language of your choice from the list of available languages.

You can also play demo audio from this page and modify the speech rate and pitch to select according to your preferred levels.

google text-to-speech

Step 3:

Now go to the Accessibility settings and open the Installed services page. Depending on your device model, manufacturer, and the Android version you are currently on, the name or the location of this setting might be slightly different.

google text-to-speech

Step 4:

Under the Installed services page, select the select to speak option and turn it on. Now you can open any website or article you want on any app on your device and then click on the accessibility icon at the bottom right corner of your device to enable the speech to text service.

This will scan the entire page on your device and will start to read out loud the text that is being displayed on your screen. You can use the on-screen controls to play, pause, skip between parts, and even slow down or speed up the dictation using this service.

google text-to-speech

However, unlike the ‘Audio Queue’ option in the Epic privacy browser app, you will not be able to listen to the web page or the article in audio format in the background when you close the app and you need to keep the app open.

VIVIMAGE Explore 2 Projector review

Being stuck at home presents many challenges. And no matter how big your house is, sometimes it feels entirely too small.

How does one binge watch their favorite shows when someone else already occupies the TV? What about watching in rooms that don’t have a TV? Or, what happens when the weather gets nice and we want to be outside on the back patio or in the driveway?

The LED projector market is poised to capitalize on the ongoing stay-at-home lifestyle we’re all living though. Although it has been around for many years, it’s now hitting a new stride, thanks to lower prices and higher quality.

Vivimage is one brand who manufactures LED projectors with prices that range from as low as $70 up to about $230. Designed for casual home entertainment, its devices are a great way to add a screen wherever you have a flat surface.

We were able to get a review unit of the Explore 2, one of its middle of the pack, projectors. And after spending a couple of weeks with it, we’re able to share our impressions and review of the device.

What is the VIVIMAGE Explore 2?

Technically speaking, the brand terms this as a mini Wi-Fi projector. Weighing in at about two pounds, its roughly 8″ x 6″ x 3″ in size.

It’s an HD (720p native/supports 1080p) projector with up to 4200 Lux brightness and a 3000:1 contrast. With six ports (HDMI, USB, VGA, AV, TF, and Audio output), it can be easily connected to a smartphone, game console, or laptop.

Depending on how far away you can get from your wall, the Explore 2 can provide an image of 38-inches up to 200-inches. There are built-in dual stereo speakers with SRS technology to provide a quality well-balanced sound experience.

What is it like to use the VIVIMAGE Explore 2?

To be honest, I was a little skeptical at first, but I quickly came to appreciate the value offered here. Vivimage has shown that it’s possible to get a high quality LED projector that is great for pretty much anywhere you want to explore.

Included in the box are the projector, HDMI and RCA cable, power cable, cleaning kit, remote, tripod, instructions, and a lens cap. Understanding we often get what we pay for, the build quality is pretty good for a projector in this price range.

So does it look good? Short answer, absolutely! I was pleasantly surprised by the image quality. To start off testing my family sat down to watch Onward and we found the picture to be crystal clear.

It only took a few seconds to get the screen sized properly and the picture focused. The provided tripod has a ball head so that made it very simple to dial in the screen and get the keystone correct for the viewing angle.

One downside I have is that while built-in speakers sound good the fan noise is pretty loud in comparison. I would suggest an extra sound source when viewing if possible. Also, he focus ring feels good and solidly constructed however, the keystone ring feels a little loose.

All in all this is a solid choice for mobile viewing and easy enough for those impromptu family movie nights!

Where to Buy

You can purchase the VIVIMAGE Explore 2 mini Wi-Fi projector from Amazon for as low as $129.99 right now.

Deus Ex GO available for free for a limited time on Android and iOS

0

Deus Ex GO is among a series of turn-based puzzle games released for smartphones by Square Enix. The game also shares the store with Hitman GO and Lara Croft GO, each game a pivotal part of Square Enix’s gaming market.

In the previous days, Square Enix made Lara Craft GO and Hitman GO free to users on smartphone, the games have now come full-circle with the inclusion of Deus Ex GO.

Deus Ex GO – I asked for this!

Deus Ex GO is a fun game that is a good time sink for people who enjoy puzzle games. Each game has a unique quirk or twist to it, making each unique in their own aspect.

With Hitman GO, you have to eliminate targets, complete the stages within a set number of moves, and do no-kill runs. Lara Croft GO has you collecting gems, pieces of a statue and solving some truly cryptic puzzles.

Deus Ex GO does well to the current source material if we are talking about the series getting rebooted via Deus Ex Human Revolution (2011) and Deus Ex Mankind Divided (2016). The game manages to deliver a good cyberpunk feel to it, while still making it feel like a good spin-off title.

You reprise your role as Adam Jensen and the story takes place prior to the events of Mankind Divided. Adam is tasked with saving the life of a VIP, but has to solve puzzles and figure out clues to where their target is being held.

Much like the other titles, you just need to start the installation and cancel it to add the license to your play store library. Even if you don’t have space on your Android device, the game license will transfer over to you.

Similarly, Hitman GO and Lara Croft GO are still showing as free. While you’re grabbing this game, there’s no harm in grabbing the other GO titles in the series.

Amidst this lockdown, you’d be surprised how quickly you might find yourself going through these games. It’s worth enjoying these games while they’re free.

Nearly all Pixel 4a details surface ahead of launch [Update 5/1/2020: Shipping date and camera samples leaked]

0

Google’s next phone, the Pixel 4a, is looming on the horizon and should be here in the next few weeks. The handset, as often is the case with Google, has seen no shortage of leaks over the last couple of months.

As we hit the final stretch before the announcement the details have come into sharp focus. And thanks to a recent 9to5google report, we have a fairly solid idea as to what waits for us in the shadows.

According to trusted source close to the outlet, the Pixel 4a will have a 5.81-inch OLED FHD+ display at 2340 x 1080 pixel resolution. A hole punch is said to be present for an 8-megapixel front-facing camera.

Running Android 10, the Pixel 4a is expected to have an octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 730 processor with 6GB RAM. Storage is reported at 64GB and 128GB.

As for the rear camera experience, the source says to look for a 12.2-megapixel sensor with autofocus with optical image stabilization and electronic image stabilization. Video recording figures to be identical to that of the Pixel 4 in both resolution and frames per second.

Rounding things out, the Pixel 4a is alleged to have a 3,080mAh battery with 18W fast charging over USB Type-C. Like its predecessor, the 3a, it does not support wireless charging. Oh, and it figures to include a 3.5mm headphone jack.

In terms of sensors and software, the Pixel 4a looks to be quite similar to the Pixel 3a. While it is said to have the same Google Assistant that’s found in the Pixel 4, there’s no Pixel Neural Core, Soli gestures, or face unlock.

The Google Pixel 4a, as anticipated, should work with all major US carriers. Although previous leaks indicate a white model is coming, 9to5google says to look for Just Black and Barely Blue. Pricing should start at $399, according to Evan Blass.

As to when and how the announcement is made for the Pixel 4a, it’s hard to say. Google’s annual developer conference, Google I/O, is not happening this year because of the coronavirus.

Update 5/1/2020

Internal documents leaked on Caschys Blog from within European carrier Vodafone stating that the Pixel 4a will start shipping on May 22.

In addition, camera samples of the Pixel 4a were shown off and compared to the Redmi Note 7 by Julio Lusson of TecnoLikePlus on Twitter. As one would expect from the Pixel line, the upcoming 4a easily outshines the Redmi Note 7.
