Boost Mobile on Wednesday confirmed that the LG Stylo 6 is now available for purchase. The phone comes with a fair amount of attractive features, including a stylus pen for people who feel like doodling on the go. If you’re in the market for a phone that lets you have some fun on the move, the LG Stylo 6 is worth looking into.

LG Stylo 6 is now available at Boost Mobile

The LG Stylo 6 is the latest entry in LG’s Stylo series. The phone comes with a stylus pen included making drawing or doodling easier. It also helps that the phone comes at a truly attractive launch price, with an added discount.

The combination of the two make this a phone you can’t say no to.

The LG Stylo 6 is available on Boost Mobile’s website.

It comes with a launch price of $179.99, discounted $40 from $219.99. Buyers can get a further 20% discount by using code MEMORIAL2020 at checkout, bringing the phone down to $143.99. The offer is only available for a limited time however; it expires on May 26th, can only be bought online, and is limited to available stock.

If you read our previous coverage on the phone, it is a well-equipped processor, Android 10 out of the box, great cameras, and a beefy display, giving you all the room you need to draw when you want. The phone also has USB-C, capable of Quick-Charge.

The only real downside to the phone would be its limited memory, at three gigabytes (3GB) you might have slight slowing down now and then, especially when multi-tasking. Otherwise, the phone is bound to serve you well.

The LG Stylo 6 is a versatile phone, which can be a great asset for anyone who finds a good way to utilize the stylus pen frequently. It’s a good solution for people who are into art, need to mark up documents, or prefer to write things down on the go — and don’t have the budget for a premium stylus phone like the Samsung Note series.

How to set up a Facebook Messenger Room from WhatsApp

Messenger Rooms is a way for you to make a private room with your Facebook friends where you can carry out text and chats safely and securely. WhatsApp, for its part, recently integrated the ability to include Messenger Rooms in their apps.

Combining the two into one experience is a piece of cake and only takes a few simple steps. All you need to do, for the most part, is make sure you’re on the latest version of WhatsApp and Messenger from the Play Store.

Making a Messenger Room has never been easier!

Pre-requisite: assuming you are on the latest version of WhatsApp and Messenger, you should be able to carry out every step in this guide. Before you start, make sure you visit the Google Play store and have the latest version of both apps installed.

Step 1

Open up a WhatsApp chat of a person you would want to invite in the chat. From here, tap on the paperclip to the left of the photo button. You will see the option for Rooms.

Tap on Rooms and a pop-up notification will ask you to confirm. Tap on “Continue in Messenger”

Step 2

When Messenger is open, you’ll see the prompt for confirming the creation of the room as your current messenger profile.

Once you confirm the option, you will have the option of sharing the link in WhatsApp. Upon tapping on the link, you’ll be taken back to WhatsApp and can share the link with anyone in WhatsApp.

Step 3

If there is somebody who you don’t have in your WhatsApp contact list, you can copy the link and paste via the clipboard.

The people who click the link will need to be on the latest version of WhatsApp and Messenger as well. This will ensure that everyone gets into the room on the first try.

If you’re not able to see Rooms in your WhatsApp, it likely means that it’s not available in your region or that you your app needs updated.

Messenger Rooms is a great way to keep in touch with friends and family, and it saves the trouble of installing extra apps like Zoom on your smartphone.

LG Velvet not expected to feature a Quad DAC

0

I’m new here, but as time passes you’ll come to realize how much I covet the headphone jack. Yes, Bluetooth audio is light years better than it was 10 years ago, hell even 5 years ago, but nothing beats a solid pair of wired headphones or IEM’s.

After Apple had the “courage” to remove the headphone jack just about every other OEM as fallen in line. Ironically, they usually do it after having previously made fun of another brand for doing it.

While pretty much every flagship phone maker has removed the headphone jack to sell its own Bluetooth headphones, LG has not only stood true to form and kept it on all models.

In fact, LG actually often couples the 3.5mm jack with a DAC (Digital to Analog Converter) that rivals some of the best standalone DAC’s. The lone exception being the US version of the G6 which kept the Quad DAC in Korea and a handful of other Asian countries.

From the looks of it, the forthcoming LG Velvet won’t be getting the Quad DAC. The image below, taken from a phone comparison on GSMArena, pits the Velvet (left), V60 (middle), and G8x (right).

You’ll see that both the V60 and G8x have 32-bit/192kHz audio and 24-bit/192kHz audio recording, while the space under the Velvet is blank.

left Velvet, middle V60, right G8x

If true, I’m sure LG does this to save on costs. I’m glad it’s moving to a different area to find the sweet spot because they actually make really good phones.

The problem, as I see it, is LG has become synonymous with the Quad DAC, and it’s kind of expected when you see a headphone jack on its phones. A headphone jack on an LG phone without a Quad DAC would be kind of like if Google were to let an expert in computational photography leave.

Your Thoughts

What are your thoughts on LG not including a Quad DAC? Do you care about the feature? Do you even know what one is? I’d love to hear your feedback in the comments below.

Walmart Onn tablets get a silent revamp to rival Amazon tablets

0

Amazon recently revamped its Fire HD 8 tablets to include better internal hardware, charging by USB-C cable, and even wireless charging. While there are a number of tablets that rival Amazon, chief among them was Walmarts Onn Tablets.

The previous Onn Tablets were sold directly through Walmart and had the same specs as the prior Amazon tablets. Recently, it seems Walmart has quietly caught up with Amazon in the tablet race by matching its specs and price.

New Walmart Onn Tablets do make for an enticing purchase

The latest Walmart Onn tablets are definitely something worth considering if you’re in the market for a basic tablet. It has a few places where it outpaces the new Amazon Fire HD 8 and a few places where we can see noticeable cutbacks.

The Walmart Onn tablets come in 8″ and a 10.1″ variant and are priced $99 and $129, respectively.

Walmart Onn 8″

  • 8″ LCD Screen (1024 x 600)
  • USB-C charging
  • 10 hours of battery life on a single charge
  • 5-megapixel camera on the front and back
  • 2GB RAM
  • Android 10
  • 2.0 octa-core processor
  • Walmart apps pre-installed: Walmart Grocery, Vudu, Sam’s Club, Walmart eBook, and the Walmart app
  • 32GB internal storage (with microSD card slot)

Walmart Onn 10.1 Pro

  • 10.1″ LCD Screen (1024 x 600)
  • USB-C charging
  • 10 hours of battery life on a single charge
  • 5-megapixel camera on the front and back
  • 3GB RAM
  • Android 10
  • 2.0 octa-core processor
  • Walmart apps pre-installed: Walmart Grocery, Vudu, Sam’s Club, Walmart eBook, and the Walmart app
  • 32GB internal storage (with microSD card slot)

As you can see, the main difference between the two comes down to the bigger screen size and the addition of an extra gigabyte of RAM. Otherwise, both tablets have strikingly similar specifications.

What really makes the tablets stand out is including Android 10 out of the box. By contrast, the Amazon Fire HD 8 comes with Android P. While wireless charging isn’t there, the strong reviews on both variants do paint both models in a very positive light. These are good tablets for basic home use or starter tablets for kids.

Alleged Microsoft Surface Duo specs come to light

0

An exclusive tip given to Windows Central has helped them identify the finished specs of the upcoming Microsoft Surface Duo. A device similar to the Samsung Galaxy Fold in appearance could now nearly match it in hardware specifications.

It seems that the Microsoft Surface Duo specs are strikingly similar to Samsung’s 2019 Galaxy Fold, but with a newer chipset out in the market.

Microsoft Surface Duo specs – What’s old is now new

The Microsoft Surface Duo looks like a new entry in the foldable smartphone race. The phone will, however, utilize Microsoft’s Surface Pen, which is yet confirmed to ship with the device.

Here is a rundown of the specs:

  • Qualcomm Snapdragon 855 processor
  • 6GB RAM
  • 64GB/256GB ROM options
  • Two 5.6-inch AMOLED displays at a 4:3 aspect ratio, (1800×1350 at 401 ppi)
  • 11-megapixel camera (acts as back and front camera for photos and videos)
  • 3,460mAh battery
  • Android 10, but will receive Android 11 fairly fast
  • Fingerprint sensor, but the location is not mentioned (possibly side-mounted like the Fold)
  • A USB-C slot for charging, no mention of fast charging or otherwise, but should support Quick Charge 3.0.

The device will come with Microsoft apps pre-installed in the device. Popular apps like Outlook, The Microsoft Office Suite, and other Microsoft software will come readily installed in the device.

With these many shortcuts, Microsoft could be poised to releasing the phone at a friendly budget that undercuts most other foldable phones in the market and gives them the opening they need. The device lacks NFC, wireless charging or 5G, so let’s see how that gamble fares for Microsoft.

According to Windows Central’s tipster, the choice of Snapdragon 855 over 865 stems from Qualcomm making the inclusion of a 5G modem in 865 devices. As Microsoft had no space for the 5G modem in the Surface Duo, they had to roll back to the 855. The 855 is still a great processor and has very little to almost no differences between the 855 in 865 in real-world scenarios.

An important aspect overlooked when talking about the foldable device is how it will tout a 360-degree hinge and have the dual-display setup make it stand out from other phones in the market.

The Microsoft Surface Duo was first expected to launch in the Holiday season, but it’s now expected to ship out as early as June 2020. There is also a big question mark on the price of the phone, which has not yet been detailed. Perhaps when the phone is unfolded in the coming months, we will be able to fill in all the blanks.

Samsung A21s offers up quad-camera, 6.5″ screen and 5,000mAh battery

0

Samsung just announced its A21s, a great phone with some compromises here and there, but a solid value for money. If you’re in the market for a new phone that looks very premium, but cautious about the price, you might consider it.

The Samsung A21s seems like a solid phone

The phone is potentially a successor to the Samsung Galaxy A20s, which offers the same screen size in LCD, a triple-camera setup, and an entry-level Snapdragon 450 SoC. The phone launched in October 2019 and did fairly well as it offered a very posh and expensive look for its price.

Key Samsung A21s specs

  • 6.5-inch HD + display
  • Octa-core 2GHz processor
  • Rear camera
    • 48-megapixel main
    • 8-megapixel ultra-wide
    • 2-megapixel depth
    • 2-megapixel macro
  • Front-facing 13-megapixel camera
  • 3GB RAM/32GB storage; 4GB/6GB RAM/64GB storage
  • 5,000mAh battery
  • Rear fingerprint scanner
  • Black, white, blue, red

The phones price tag is the only mystery; however, the phone is set to launch on June 19 in select regions.

While Samsung’s A-series are known for ranging from budget-friendly to costing in the midrange, this phone looks closer to costing in the mid-range market, particularly with an OLED display. The Samsung Galaxy A51 and A20s did particularly well for Samsung this year.

While we don’t know the regions the phone will be available in yet, it is possible for it to be available in the South-East Asia region such as India, Pakistan, and such. Places where the Samsung Galaxy A and M series have found a lot of commercial success in these markets.

What are your thoughts on the A21s. What do you expect its price to be? Let us know in the comments section below!
