Realme X50 Pro Play brings Snapdragon 865, 90Hz, and more for $400

0

Realme on Monday announced its X50 Pro Play on Chinese social media site Weibo. The phone brings a lot of flagship-tier specs and features but for a low price of $400. The only catch here is that it’s currently exclusive to China, with plans to expand in Europe to follow.

Realme X50 Pro Play – Irresistible hardware and price

The Realme X50 Pro Play has just been announced, and to say it is loaded with a world of features would not do it justice. Even though the phone is a less-expensive option to the Realme X50 Pro, it brings a lot to the table, while keeping the price very affordable.

In a market where a Qualcomm Snapdragon 865 starts at above $600, Realme has proven yet again that competition in the market is indeed healthy.

Here are the specs of the phone:

  • CPU: Qualcomm Snapdragon 865
  • 6.44″ fullHD+ (2400 x 1080) Super AMOLED display, w/ 90Hz refresh rate
  • Android 10 powered by the Realme UI
  • 6GB, 8GB, and 12GB RAM options
  • 4200mAh battery (65W SuperDart fast wired charging)
  • Back cameras: 48-MP main camera, 8-MP ultrawide, 2-MP macro, 2-MP depth.
  • Front camera: 16-MP main camera, 2-MP depth
  • Phone color options: Black and Silver

Pricing

  • 6GB RAM + 128GB ROM = $380
  • 8GB RAM + 128GB ROM= $420
  • 12GB RAM + 128GB ROM = $460

The inclusion of the Qualcomm Snapdragon 865 means that the phone has 5G capabilities, which makes it yet another great phone for the emerging 5G market that’s garnering across the world.

In the past, Realme has shown itself to be a contender for releasing strong hardware at attractive prices. The Realme X50 Pro Play does have a lot going for it, and the only real problem with this phone would be its availability.

A good majority of the hardware is found in flagship-tier phones, but competing brands like Redmi and Realme deliver premium hardware in a mid-tier price range. In the end, the only problem that comes is availability.

The phone is set to launch in China first on June 1st. Soon after, Realme will expand the phone to Europe and other regions.

Google Accessibility expands with apps for cognitively impaired

0

Google Accessibility enables people with disabilities to get the most out of their smartphone via free apps. The tech giant now offers three new apps that can help the elderly or other people with cognitive impairments better use their phones with less effort.

Google Accessibility – 3 new apps added to the mix

Google Accessibility, as the name implies, targets enabling its audiences with different handicaps. In their latest blog post, Google talks about their efforts to further help people with cognitive issues by making their routine more streamlined and accessible.

Action Blocks

Action Blocks is the latest app on the Google Play Store. You can create customized spaces on the screen that on a single tap carry out an action for you. All of this from your home screen.

You can create a dedicated block to dial a loved one without accessing the dialer app, or adjust the lighting in the room to a specific setting, all from the Action Blocks app.

Live Transcribe

The Live Transcribe app has been improved to add more languages to its list which include Albanian, Burmese, Estonian, Macedonian, Mongolian, Punjabi, and Uzbek. In addition, it also brings brand new features targeted to a new audience.

  • Your phone will vibrate when someone nearby says your name.
  • You can now add custom names or terms for different objects or places that might not be in the dictionary.
  • A revised search bar lets you search through past conversations more easily. To enable it, turn on ‘Saving Transcriptions’ in Settings. When enabled, transcriptions will be saved on your device for three days in local storage.

Sound Amplifier

The Sound Amplifier app now enables people who are hard of hearing to experience their favorite content with minimal disturbance. Users can now connect their Bluetooth headphones and place their phone near the source of the sound e.g. a television, to get the audio transmitted to their headphones without taking up the volume.

The app also works for boosting the volume and clearing up the audio of apps on the phone. Whether you’re listening to music or watching a video on YouTube.

With all of these additions, Google’s commitment to accessibility is indeed a commendable effort. Especially with many elders staying indoors due to the Corona Virus, these new features are a welcome addition.

Honor V6 debuts with 10.4-inch 2K display

0

The Honor V6, briefly detailed on its website, seems eager to take on the iPad Pro. From the images shown so far, it looks like the Honor V6 will offer its own proprietary keyboard, it’s own version of the stylus aptly called the Smart-Pencil, and looks like an iPad Pro fully set up.

Honor V6 – Taking on the Big Apple

The laptop and PC market is a heavily saturated marketplace. With many long-standing names in the market such as HP, Dell, Microsoft all powering workplaces with their own versions of laptops targeted for programmers, graphic designers, and more.

This Space has recently seen some disruption with the help of the iPad Pro and the Magic Keyboard. When you combine the two, you get the versatility and utility of an iPad with the work output almost similar to that of a regular laptop.

Here is a brief look at the overall specs:

It seems that Honor has recognized that there is an opening in the market for an opportunity. The Honor V6 is leveraging that opportunity.

Honor V6

  • 10.4″ screen (2,000 x 1,200 resolution)
  • Kirin 985 processor
  • 6GB RAM and 128GB storage
  • Android 10 with Magic UI 3.1
  • Back camera: 13MP main camera with LED flash
  • Front camera: 8MP for selfies and video calls
  • 7,250 mAh battery w/ 22.5W fast charging
  • Magic-Pencil offers 4096 pressure-sensitive levels
  • Colors: Green, Black, and Grey Silver
  • Keyboard is sold separately

As a finished product, the Honor V6 does pair a striking resemblance to the current iPad Pro, Magic Keyboard and Apple Pencil 2 setup.

While details on price and availability are still scarce, the product is only up for pre-registration on their website. It will also initially launch in China during June with roll-out in other countries to follow shortly after.

5 most effective ways to recover deleted text messages on iPhone for free

EDITOR NOTE: This is a promoted post and should not be viewed as an editorial endorsement.

Although text messages are important pieces of information, that’s not to say that you have to always keep them around. After all, they sometimes take up more space than your iPhone can ever contain. That is why there is a need to delete them every once in a while.

However, the problem comes when the deleted text message was actually an important one, one that you will need in the future.

This article will show you how you can recover deleted text messages on iPhone so you won’t have to regret your decision. Let’s start with my top recommendation.

Recover Deleted Text Messages on iPhone with Software

There are many ways to recover files, but when it comes to deleted text messages, there are only a few options. However, as always, one of those options involves using third-party software, and that’s exactly why I recommend FoneDog iOS Data Recovery.

As the name implies, this software has the capability of recovering files from an iOS device, so that includes the latest versions of iPhones. These files can range from videos with large sizes to small bits of text messages.

As such, there’s no better tool that can recover deleted text messages on iPhone than FoneDog Data Recovery. Now if you are ready, follow these steps carefully:

Step 1: Connect Your iPhone to Computer

Connect your iPhone into the computer with a cable. Make sure iOS Data Recovery by FoneDog is already open. By doing so, you will get three options. You will be using the easiest and perhaps the most doable option, which is Recover from iOS Device. Click on Start Scan once you select this option.

Step 2: Look for Your Files

Once the Start Scan is clicked, it will obviously scan for your files from the iPhone device. You will then get a list of items, which are the files that can be recovered. On the left side are the file types. Simply select text messages and you’ll see the text messages in the right panel.

Step 3: Recover Your Text Messages

After the files are displayed in the right panel, click on their corresponding boxes to select a file. Once you are done with selections, click on the Recover button and a popup window will appear. Now just navigate to the folder where you want to save the recovered text messages, and click on Recover.

The best thing about this is that you don’t need technical know-how to pull this off. It is a simple, easy, and quick way to recover deleted text messages on iPhone.

The catch is that you will have to install an unfamiliar tool. If that does not appeal to you, then you should look for a method elsewhere.

Restore from iCloud Backup (Requires Factory Reset)

By now, you should be familiar with what iCloud is. You will need to know more about it since your next option is to restore from an iCloud backup.

iCloud is a place where files can be stored digitally. By storing files here, users will be able to access them as long as they have the login credentials for the appropriate Apple account. This of course allows users to backup text messages.

In order to recover deleted text messages on iPhone from an iCloud backup, you will need to have an iCloud backup prepared first.

  1. Go to the Settings.
  2. Tap on your Apple ID with your picture on it.
  3. Now head to iCloud > iCloud Backup. Make sure the slider for this option is green or in other words, enabled.

Now once this is turned on, the backups will be automatically created, so there’s no need to worry about that.

Now what you need to do next is to reset your phone into factory settings and all will follow. Here’s how you can do that:

  1. Head to Settings.
  2. Go to General > Reset.
  3. Now select Erase All Content and Settings.
  4. A message will appear asking if you want to Restore from iCloud Backup. Simply follow the onscreen instructions.

Once this is done, you should be able to recover deleted text messages on iPhone and access them once again.

The downside of this is that you will have to reset your phone, so some data may be lost. If you don’t want that to happen, then perhaps the next solution would be more suitable.

Retrieve Text Messages from iCloud.com

As I have said before, iCloud is a place where files can be stored digitally. Those files will then be accessible as long as you have access to the account that was used.

Now if an iCloud backup didn’t do it for you, perhaps the iCloud website, where the files are directly stored, can be of help to recover deleted text messages on iPhone.

Remember, however, that SMS may not be supported by the backup. Either way, here are the steps that you will need to take:

  1. On your browser, go to iCloud.com and login with the Apple ID and password that you use. It doesn’t matter whether you use a mobile device or a desktop.
  2. From the webpage, select Text Messages.
  3. Now select the messages that you would like to recover.
  4. Next, on your iPhone, go to Settings > Apple ID > iCloud.
  5. Now turn off the option for Text Messages.
  6. A popup message will appear. Simply select Keep On My iPhone.
  7. Turn the Text Messages option on again.
  8. Once a new screen appears, select Merge.

Now the text messages that were once on the iCloud will be “merged” into your iPhone. Unfortunately, many users report that Text Messages is not available on the iCloud.com website.

If that’s the case, then it is most likely that it is not yet backed up, and trying to recover deleted text messages on iPhone using this method would be impossible. In that case, I have another method to ease your frustration.

Restore from iTunes Backup

Before, you have tried to restore from an iCloud backup. In this section, you will be learning how to restore from a backup as well, but this time it would be from iTunes.

It’s a bit different since you will need a computer to achieve this, unlike when you restored from an iCloud backup that only involves your iPhone.

Either way, to recover deleted text messages on iPhone, you will have to disable a function first, and here’s what you need to do:

  1. On your iPhone, open the Settings app.
  2. Head to Apple ID > Find My > Find My iPhone.
  3. Now make sure the slider for that option is turned off.
  4. Enter your Apple ID or password if needed.

Since Find My iPhone might interfere with the process, this will make the process go smoothly. Anyway, once that’s done, you need to follow these steps:

  1. Connect your iPhone into the computer with a cable.
  2. Open iTunes.
  3. Go to Summary.
  4. Under the Automatically Back Up section, click on Restore from Backup

That’s pretty much how to recover deleted text messages on iPhone. However, there are cases where the backup that was restored doesn’t have the text messages that users need. In that case, you have to use the last resort.

Get Transcript from Phone Provider

Although it is not as effective as the previous four methods, you still have the option to ask the transcript of your text messages from your phone provider.

You see, users can request a printed transcript of their text messages from their phone providers, as long as a viable reason is given. As such, it is a legitimate way to recover deleted text messages on iPhone.

Unfortunately, you may find it difficult to become entitled to it. Although the least you can do is to login to your account in the phone provider’s website and ask for help. Either way, there’s nothing for you to lose.

Conclusion

There are lots of ways to recover files, but there are only a few when it comes to recovering text messages. That is why it is very valuable what you have learned here in this article about recovering text messages.

Now that you know how to recover deleted text messages on iPhone, I shouldn’t be a problem to you if you ever lose your files again. Nevertheless, you should try being more careful so you won’t delete your files ever again.

T-Mobile launches “Connecting Heroes”, provides free unlimited service to first responders

0

Carriers have felt an immense obligation to Americans during the current situation, and have taken many steps in line with the FCC’s Keep Americans Connected Pledge.

Now, T-Mobile, newly merged with Sprint, has launched the Connecting Heroes program. This program pledges $7.7 billion dollars over the next 10 years towards keeping first responder agencies connected to critical wireless infrastructure.

The two main pillars of this initiative are providing free unlimited plans to first responder agencies as well as ensuring that they have network priority. The plan includes free unlimited 5G access, 1 gigabyte of 4G LTE hotspot data that downgrades to 3G afterwards, Mobile without Borders, and 480p video streaming. Individuals can upgrade this plan for $15 to get 20 gigabytes of mobile hotspot, unlimited texting,  international data connections, and free texting + unlimited in-flight Wi-Fi.

For first responders to be eligible for this, the agency needs to create a business account and adhere to the criteria laid out on the Connecting Heroes Page. Ineligible first responders can sign up on an individual basis via the Magenta First Responder plans.

T-Mobile wants to give thanks to other customers as well, though. Sprint + T-Mobile customers can get a free iPhone SE or a deep discount on a flagship from another brand with an eligible trade-in, with no need to add a line or anything else. This promotion lasts from Friday, May 22 to Monday, May 25.

You can watch the announcement from CEO Mike Sievert below.

Opinion: Google needs to replace OnePlus as king of sub-$700 smartphones

0

Google has struggled to find a real foothold in the mobile smartphone market. The company has muddled its way through four generations of the “flagship” Pixel line. Each has been a compelling device but they’re usually hindered by head-scratching compromises that lead to putrid sales numbers.

Conversely, OnePlus has seen almost the opposite trajectory. The Chinese-based fan favorite has found real success by giving users most of what they want without breaking the bank.

As we hit the middle of 2020 you might be able to argue that OnePlus has left Google with an opportunity. Given the cost of the OnePlus 8 Pro is up some 34% over the previous models, it’s not quite the value it once was.

At $899, the OP 8 Pro is priced at a premium level for the first time and by doing so, OnePlus may have overstretched its historical consumer base. Hell, the OnePlus One was only $299.

The 8 Pro is still cheaper than the Galaxy S20+, but it’s a huge jump for people loyal to the OnePlus brand. Google needs to capitalize on this to finally make a serious push with the Pixel 5.

There are already a plethora of rumors pointing to Google making a shift from premium specs to more of a “Goldilocks” approach with a Qualcomm 765 series processor instead of the more hungry 865 chipsets. Google needs to pair this mindset with an awesome marketing push and a reasonable price to replace OnePlus in the $649 to $699 price range.

Price matters more in 2020

Price and marketing matter more than most realize and Google has missed this to date on every Pixel. Yes, you’ll see ads the first few weeks after launch but those have quickly faded in the past. Google has to be more like Apple and Samsung than maybe it wants. People should see the ads so much that they get sick of them.

Pricing is the Pixels other sore point. The line has been consistently expensive for the compromises in hardware.

Those consumers that do nab the phone on day one are often quickly insulted by massive discounts within weeks of release. Why bother messing around? Just launch at $649 for the Pixel 5 and put the XL at $699.

OnePlus has a solid blueprint for Google to follow: stick to the basics. Make a good phone and price appropriately. Then you’ll build a solid base of users.

Without those faithful users, you can’t win anything. You can’t ask for nearly $1,000 without proving your loyalty first. Loyalty is built on trust and so far Google hasn’t shown it can consistently do that. It’s time for a change.

Google, please don’t alienate or anger your early adopters. These loyalists want your phone enough to pre-order them or rush to buy in the first week. You’re essentially punching them in the gut when you discount in the ensuing month.

Google needs a similar approach to smartphones as it’s taken with smart speakers. That is, let the discount win.

You are one of the few who can afford it and recover that in services and Search. Starting with a premium price and struggling to sell in volume ultimately ends with the same loss when discounts take place. Why not hedge that on the front-end and simply lower the price and at least win the market share with a more competitive price?

After doing this you can follow the same trend of OnePlus. Gradually start adding fit and finish. Increase the integration and specs back to the premium model prices.

Once you have the loyalty of several generations of consumers, you’ve earned the right to ask for a larger amount of cash as you iterate and add value.

Google has a chance to pivot with the Pixel 5, but it will take a much more focused effort by the team at Mountain View to make this a successful launch. The company has to learn from its past mistakes and attack past failures.

A phone can be a flagship without being premium. OnePlus has proven it for years now. Users care about experience, ecosystem, and value. Google has two of those covered but has to reassert the value angle of the Pixel line. OnePlus has left a real opening and the Pixel 5 should capitalize on this shift in the market.

    • 64GB + 6GB – $267
    • 128GB + 6GB – $309
    • 128GB + 8GB – $337

The Huawei Honor X10 5G has some very solid specifications, particularly in the camera department. The added support for 5G bands means that it also makes this a great choice for an entry-level 5G phone.

With the growth of 5G in countries like China, Europe, and North America, smartphone users will increasingly look for 5G modems in phones.
