The transformation of modern love – how it looks nowadays

Everything that we know has been changed by the advent of new technology. Yes, that does include love. Instead of the older days of notes on lockers and chatrooms, we have a much more unique version of love that exists today. We’re going to explore some of the changes that have occurred in the world of love as a result of modern technology. Here, you’ll find out some information about what to expect in the modern world of love and how to embrace it best.

Everyone Hangs Around on Mobile Phones

In the world of modern technology, it is impossible to do much of anything without a smartphone. Kids are practically using smartphones as soon as they learn how, and most adults wake up in the morning and check their phone for messages. They look for incoming calls, messages, emails, online purchases, appointment confirmations, and everything else, all day long until it’s time to go to bed. People also get their entertainment from their smartphones such as using Netflix while they’re on the subway, or they order their food using them. So, what is to stop people from integrating love into their smartphones? Well, they already do. People come to sites like Together2night.com and make their acquaintances there for the same reasons that people schedule their doctor’s appointments online- it’s fast and convenient. Now, people can find partners and tell them when they want to meet while dating from any place with a connection to the web! It’s completely unique and offers everyone a chance to get involved with romance in a way that is familiar to them!

Dating Online Has Been Gamified

Another thing that has changed with the modern form of love is that dating has been gamified. That means that romance and the dating process has elements of it that are similar to what you would find in a game. Look at the dating sites out there like Tinder. There, you could log into your profile and swipe left or right to determine whether or not someone is right for you. Some people just swipe to accept everyone, and others turn it into a high-stakes version of “he loves me, he loves me not.” That’s just one example, but there are many others. Some people compete to see how many individuals they can date with throughout a given week, testing their compatibility until they determine whether or not they are good enough to fit together. All in all, this part of dating is fun, allows you to connect quickly, and brings a new dimension to love that has never existed before!

Internet Brings People Together from All Over the World

The final thing to remember about the chances that love has undergone in recent years is that the internet exists to bring people together from all over the world. That means you can use the internet to learn about foreign cultures and you can participate in them as well by making friends. Yet, you can also start finding people to date from other countries while you’re online. Many websites are just getting involved with the online “passports” that will allow people to meet singles that are from other countries and use the sites to call, video chat, and more. Now you have the power to connect with people that are in the same city as you as well as people from cities on the other side of the globe. The entire realm of online dating has significantly transformed this sort of romance!

The new world of dating is vastly different than in the past, and that has changed the very nature of love. People are getting involved more seriously and at a more rapid rate than ever before. The benefit of this kind of love life is that you can more easily find someone that will suit your needs. However, it comes with the drawback that you might think you’ve found someone special without investing time into seeing your true compatibility. All in all, though, the modern world of love is in a much better spot than it has ever been, and people only have to reach out and grasp the best form of love for them.

7 ways to create an app marketing strategy that really works

0

EDITOR NOTE: This is a promoted post and should not be viewed as an editorial endorsement.

So you’ve got a killer app. It ticks all the boxes, it offers something new and exciting, it’s useful, it can save users time, and it’s available on all major phone and tablet platforms. But what good is a killer app without users?

Your app marketing strategy will define the success of your idea. A clever marketing plan will show users what your app does, why people need it, and where they can download it. There are lots of ways, however, to do this. So let’s take a look at seven ways you can create an app marketing strategy that really works.

Research Your Target Market

Researching your target market should always be the first step in developing a marketing strategy because it dictates how your entire marketing efforts work. It tells you what methods of outreach are most effective by making you think about how your target market is best reached. Older users, for instance, may be easier to reach through traditional media, and younger users may be easier to reach through social media, to put it simply.

Understand your customers, their needs, and their expectations. You may do this through traditional market research and surveys, which can even be performed online. Find out your customers’ biggest pain points in apps they already use or establish how your app could prove beneficial, and you’ll know what your marketing efforts also need to address.

In short, you must:

  • Understand who you are targeting
  • Establish how your app can help that group of people
  • Know how to reach your target market

Create a Great Landing Page or Website

When someone arrives at your website, it’s a win. It means that person is genuinely interested in what you have to offer and may, ultimately, become a user or a customer. That’s why it’s so important that your website or landing page demonstrates the benefits of your product, and compels people to download your app.

Ensure your page is clean, professional-looking, and doesn’t present too much information at once. Not only can this make your page look like a spam page, but too much text immediately makes people want to leave. Keep your slogans simple, provide a few sentences of text to explain why your app is so fantastic – or better yet, use video or graphics!

Give clear calls to action, too. Have a large “Download now” button, or tell people where they can get your app, and make it as easy as possible for visitors to become customers.

Keep in Touch with Text Marketing

Landing pages also serve as a method of communicating with potential customers and establishing that line of contact that may turn them into paying customers down the line. Maintaining contact with brand new customers is also important for a couple of reasons, and if you take their phone numbers during the sign-up process, it gives you the best way to reach out. Text marketing is often overlooked, but hugely effective.

First of all, it allows you to update your customers on new features and help them get started with the app. Secondly, it makes it easier to upsell those customers with new features or additional software.

A majority of customers prefer companies to communicate via text messages, according to several studies conducted over the last few years. It’s a way of inviting potential (or existing) customers to get involved with special offers, to interact with new features, or even to upgrade their plan in as direct a way as possible. People open text messages more than they do promotional emails, and most people always have their phone in their pocket!

Outsmart Your Competitors

Even a brand-new app, offering a brand-new service, has some form of competition or may face competition in the near future. Understanding that competition, being able to perform online data analysis and knowing how to respond to new players in the market, is key to keeping your marketing fresh.

If you are offering something new, use your marketing in a way that establishes you as the authority on the service you offer. Make a direct connection between your brand and the service you offer and reinforce it in everything you do. This makes it harder for new competitors to establish the same visibility and trust. When you combine that marketing with truly exceptional customer support, too, you reinforce that trust and create a tougher barrier for entry to even some of the biggest software players.

If you already have competition…examine their marketing, look for flaws, and exploit those flaws!

Consider Your Image and Branding

You can have the best app in the world, the most reliable service, and truly exceptional customer support…but if your logo makes no sense, your website is chaotic, and our app poorly positioned in the app store, then it doesn’t mean very much.

It may feel like surface-level stuff, but your brand means a lot and is key to your marketing success. Logos, branding, imagery, and your landing page attract customers, and your service and product make them stick around.

So, make sure your logo makes sense, make sure it looks crisp, clean, and professional, and portray your professionalism in all video, graphics, and marketing text you publish.

Partner with Likeminded Brands

Partnering with brands that exist in the same professional space as you cements your reputation as a reliable, trustworthy brand with a truly useful product. If there are brands and companies that offer complementary products or services to yours, consider teaming up with them in some way or endorsing one another.

As long as their brand does not have the potential to hurt yours, a mutual endorsement attracts new customers to both sides and shows that other names take you seriously. It can also become a key part of your marketing campaign.

Optimize Your App Store Page

Finally, remember that your entry on the app store pages should look great and entice people. In some instances, this may be the first time anybody ever interacts with your brand. So be sure to keep the title clear and properly formatted, create a description that succinctly describes what your software does, and include that crisp, modern logo we talked about earlier.

Don’t forget screenshots, too! Showing people what your app looks like, and highlighting some of the features, immediately shows people that your software is easy to use and offers exactly what they need.

Sell Promises and Keep Those Promises!

All good marketing strategy boils down to selling an idea or a promise and keeping those promises. Tell people what your software does, and don’t just deliver on that…exceed their expectations!

Keep these seven simple tips in mind and you’ll be on your way to great success advertising your new app. Good luck!

Qualcomm debuts Snapdragon 690 processor with 5G support

Qualcomm on Wednesday introduced its newest and most powerful 6-series Snapdragon processor for phones, the Snapdragon 690.

Although it falls on the lower end of the spectrum for Qualcomm’s processors, it still features some noteworthy technical capabilities. For one, it offers sub-6 5G support, something previously found in the 700 and 800 series.

Additional features for the Snapdragon 690 include support for 4K HDR video capture, 120Hz refresh rate for displays, dual Wi-Fi antennas, and Qualcomm’s Hexagon Tensor Accelerator (AI).

According to Qualcomm, the Snapdragon 690 has 20% better CPU performance as compared to its predecessor. Further, it has 60% faster graphics rendering, and 70% better AI performance.

Rounding out the features, the new chipset also supports cameras up to 192 megapixels, Quick Charge 4+ charging, and Wi-Fi 6.

As for devices with the new chip, we should look for announcements from Nokia, LG, Motorola, and TCL in the second half of 2020.

Facebook Portal review

*Update: 06/16/20 Messenger Rooms and FB Live arrive on Portal*

Facebook has had a rocky last few years. The company seemed to be hit with scandal after scandal around user data and privacy. Some of those questions and concerns still remain with Facebook, and it’s the main reason I keep my account inactive.

Despite this, I reactivated everything to take a look at the 10-inch model of the Facebook Portal.

I came away with a new appreciation of how well Facebook can make devices when truly focused. Now, don’t take this to mean the Portal doesn’t have a few misses on the docket. Let’s dive deeper into our full review.

Hardware

Facebook has done a great job of design here with the Portal. It’s sturdy and well built with smooth lines. You do have a bezel, but I think that’s appropriate to move the unit around to get things focused for video without smudging the display.

Functionality seems to be the all-around main focus of Facebook with the Portal. It didn’t ignore its faults with privacy either. For instance, in the top-left corner, you will find a physical switch that offers two stages of privacy. The first slide cuts off the audio and when pushed a notch further it kills the video as well.

This is a concerted effort by the Facebook team to take an obvious concern by users and offer a well-thought-out solution. You can rest assured that while sitting in your home not being used, that the Portal is fully muted for input.

Rounding out the front is the 114-degree camera array. Honestly, it’s just impressive. The camera is very similar to what Microsoft has done in the past with the Kinect; it finds subjects in the frame and automatically adjusts to include everyone it can.

This really shows up when a single person is joined by another individual. The camera will slowly pan out to include the other person or party of people. It can adjust the Portal view to include at least four people comfortably sitting side by side.

In reverse, the camera will zoom back in and focus on the smaller subjects as people leave the camera view. It’s a nice touch by Facebook to keep the users in focus and offer the best video.

To be clear, this does lead to a little fish-eye effect when a single person is present at times. It all depends on the surroundings. With that said the feature’s positives far outweigh this negative.

Around the rear of the Portal, you will find a fairly robust speaker and a single USB-C port. The USB-C port seems to just be for the occasional data transfer but that’s about it.

This port also allows you to use Ethernet to USB-C adapters and video out adapters. Yes, if you want, you can use your TV as the monitor. I’m not sure how many would actually use this but it’s another nice inclusion.

Even when using an external display, the sound is still pumped through the Portal’s speaker. That’s not a deal-breaker, though, as the sound produced by the Portal is very good. It has a built-in subwoofer and highs/mids sound fine.

Video calls I made with the Portal all sounded great with no issues hearing my family. (Thanks to Facebook, my sister got to play with one as well!)

The only other port on the Portal is the power input. I’m really torn on the design of this proprietary power supply. To its credit, Facebook made it functional by turning it into the stand. Also cool, the Portal can be used in landscape or portrait mode.

My complaint is that it’s a proprietary and extremely unique port. I’d have loved to see Facebook use its think tank of engineers to find a way to still have the stand mechanism while allowing it to be powered by the universal standard of USB-C.

Software

Facebook has limited and expanded on software in some predictable ways. You can only use the Portal with Facebook Messenger and Whatsapp to make video calls. While limited, this is understandable as the company’s most used and recognizable chat apps.

As mentioned in the hardware section, the calls are crisp, clear, and you can even add AR stickers and Snap-style filters to your calls. It’s a fun addition to have when talking to your friends and family.

One other thing that came up a couple of times with calls is that you can stop and start calls via the Portal and transfer to mobile. And vice versa. This is a nice touch for someone who is about to head out the door or who might be just getting home.

My sister had a few times where’d I’d call a few minutes earlier than expected and she answered from her phone. It was nice to know that you could transfer the call to Portal by pressing the contact name on the Portal and it then asks to end the call on the previous device and join.

A side-note to video chat is Facebook claims that the Portal will eventually be compatible with Messenger Rooms. This is the new Zoom-style plugin for Messenger to allow dedicated conference “rooms” with a group conversation. There’s no timeline to when this will be in place but it’s good to know the company is thinking about it.

Other Apps and Functions

Apps are pretty bare. There’s no Netflix, Hulu, or Amazon Prime Video. You’re limited to just Facebook Watch for video content. Spotify and Pandora are both on board, but that’s about it. Additionally, you have a Photo Booth app to send fun AR photos or a selfie to your friends.

There is a web browser that looks to be based on Chromium. It allowed me to access some sites like Plex and YouTube, but Netflix was a hard stop, as was Hulu.

To round out the software side of things, you have Alexa built atop Facebook’s other offerings. This does not get you Echo video calling but does seem to provide almost every other feature.

You can start music via voice, ask it questions, and see your Ring video cameras. Once you connect the device to Alexa it’s a pretty full-fledged option other than the Echo specific video chats.

Who is Portal for?

I struggled with this question. The Facebook Portal is a great device, but it just happens to be limited. On the other hand, it seems to be by design and I think that might be a good thing.

As current conditions have taught us around COVID-19, dedicated apps and devices with specific purposes sometimes shine when they are able to fit their niche. Look at Zoom, for example, and all of the ways people are using it now. The Facebook Portal fills a need, but it just may not be for everyone.

I’ve decided that the Portal by Facebook fills a void in the market that Google, Amazon, and Apple aren’t doing right now. It’s mainly just for video chatting. And it works near flawlessly with an account that billions of people already are signed up and using.

We’re Already Here

It’s the only dedicated video chat device that I literally had a conversation with my Mom, sister, daughter, and my in-laws. And it didn’t require any of them to download and toil through a new app experience.

I can’t do that with Facetime, Google Duo/Hangouts, or Snapchat. I can’t do that with a Google Home or Amazon Echo Show either. For $180 it’s not an impulse buy, but in the times of video happy hours and social distancing, this is by far the best product Facebook offers. Be sure to hit the Portal product page to find the one that fits your needs.

*updated 06/16/20 by Andrew Allen*

Facebook has come through on a couple of promises with a software update. You can now start a Facebook Live video to share on your timeline directly from the Portal. No longer is this limited to just Facebook’s homepage.

Facebook Live on the Portal is pretty sweet. You can now use the awesome camera technology to have a dedicated live streaming device for your Facebook.

The more exciting update is the Messenger Rooms are now available on the Portal as well. Just like on the desktop or mobile app, you can now chat with up to 50 friends. In times with COVID-19, this brings parity with Zoom but in a dedicated device in your living space.

HTC announces U20 5G and Desire 20 Pro for Taiwan

0

HTC on Tuesday announced a pair of new smartphones for the Taiwanese market, including its first 5G handset. Indeed, the HTC U20 5G and Desire 20 Pro are expected to hit other markets at some point, too.

On paper, the phones have the makings of a standard mid-range experience, and look like HTC’s take on a 2020 phone. That is to say they are not all that remarkable, but we’ll reserve final judgment if and when we get to actually see one of these in person.

HTC U20 5G

The HTC U20 5G houses a 6.8-inch FHD LCD display that tucks a 32-megapixel selfie camera in the hole-punch cutout located in the top left corner.

A fingerprint reader is located on the rear as are four cameras; the configuration includes a 48-megapixel sensor, 8-megapixel ultra-wide, and 2-megapixel depth sensor, and 2-megapixel macro lens.

Powered by a Snapdragon 765G processor, it’s Qualcomm’s affordable mid-range chip that allows for 5G connectivity. As to which version of 5G is baked in, it’s not immediately clear.

Other specs include 8GB RAM, 256GB internal storage (with microSD expansion card slot), and a 5,000mAh battery. According to Engadget, the U20 5G will retail for NT$18,990 (~$640 USD) starting on July 1.

HTC Desire 20 Pro

Slightly smaller at 6.5-inches, the Desire 20 Pro comes with 6GB RAM and 128GB storage as well as a 5,000mAh battery. The Snapdragon 665 processor is less powerful and doesn’t have 5G support, but that also keeps the price down, too. And, unlike the U20 5G, the Desire 20 Pro has a 3.5mm headphone jack.

Pricing is said to be NT$8,990 (~$300 USD) with a launch date of June 18.

Verizon introduces the Lenovo Flex 5G, the first 5G Ultra-Wideband PC

0

Verizon launched their 5G network just over a year ago, allowing them to claim the title of “first commercial 5G network in the world that works with a 5G smartphone.”

In May, Verizon announced the first phone built to be compatible with their 5G Ultra-Wideband network, the Samsung Galaxy S20 5G UW.

Now, they’re taking another step with the first 5G Ultra-Wideband compatible laptop, the Lenovo Flex 5G.

What is the Lenovo Flex 5G?

The Lenovo Flex 5G is a 2-in-1 laptop with a 14″ wide-angle screen, Dolby Atmos® Audio and up to 24 hours of battery life, making it both insanely portable and insanely versatile for any use case. It supports 5G Ultra-Wideband and will support Verizon’s 5G low-band network when it launches later this year.

The Flex 5G is based on the Qualcomm® Snapdragon™ 8cx 5G compute platform, which touts Quick Charge technology, HDR Playback, and support for dual 4K external displays.

A 5G Speedtest was done on the Flex 5G to show that the device can break 2Gbps speed on the 5G Network.

5G Ultra Wideband connected device plan

To complement the release of the Flex 5G, Verizon is introducing a 5G Ultra Wideband plan for connected devices, that includes the following:
On 5G Ultra Wideband

  • Unlimited 5G Ultra Wideband data
  • Unlimited 5G Ultra Wideband Hotspot
  • Unlimited 4K streaming video

On 4G LTE

  • Unlimited 4G LTE data with 15GB of premium data
  • Unlimited Hotspot with 15GB of 4G LTE data
  • 720p HD streaming video

For consumers with an existing line, adding the 5G Ultra WIdeband connected device plan costs an additional $30/month. Without, the plan will run you $90/month.

The Lenovo Flex 5G will be available starting June 18 for a retail price of $1,399.99, which can be broken down to 24 months of payments of $58.33. Those who purchase the Flex 5G will also be given one year of Microsoft 365 Personal.

You can read the full announcement here.
