Smart360 S7 Pro Robot Vacuum review

Vacuums may not be the first thing that comes to mind when someone mentions tech. However, “Robo vacs” are a highly competitive segment of the market and have advanced to have internet-connected features much like many other smart home devices.

I’ve been testing the Smart360 S7 Pro Robot Vacuum for the last three weeks and came away with a positive outlook on this cleaner. Let’s get down to the details to see where it excels, and a few places it could use some improvements.

Design

The design is nothing earthshattering from Smart360. You get a large hockey puck-like disc on wheels. It’s roughly two and a half feet in diameter. The casing is a glossy plastic that makes the S7 Pro vacuum look modern but does make it prone to show both dust and smudges.

Atop the S7 Pro is a large “cap” housing that contains the LiDar system. This is a 360 laser array that the vacuum uses to determine depth and distance for mapping rooms. We will get into that more later.

Around both, the back and front of the vac is a bumper system that helps limit damage to your baseboards and the S7 Pro while in motion. This is assisted by another infra-red sensor on the sides that helps detect walls.

Four more infra-red sensors are positioned on the bottom edges of the Smart360 S7 Pro vacuum. These allow the unit to detect when the depth below the vacuum changes past what’s safe and stops the S7 Pro from tumbling down the stairs.

The undercarriage is where the more fundamental parts live on the S7 Pro. You have a spinning 3-prong bristle brush for sweeping and a rolling brush for picking up. The wheel system is also present here with two drive wheels and a rotating steer wheel on the front.

The S7 Pro can also mop with a reservoir that clips onto the back of the device. You fill it full of water and attach the cloth mop to the casing with included Velcro strips.

Real results

We can talk about sensors and specs all you want, but if it can’t vacuum you’ve got nothing. Well, I’m happy to report that most of the claims and features from Smart360 are a reality when using the S7 Pro robot vacuum. The mentioned sensors do a great job of reporting back to the included software to create a map of your home that offers consistent cleaning.

The app is fairly simple in that you use it to connect the device to your Wi-Fi to allow remote usage and to help tweak the maps. You can also choose different suction strengths, set schedules, and change the modes: cleaning, mop, or both.

The S7 Pro vacuum spends the initial startup session to map your home using the LiDar and other sensors. I was impressed by how well this function worked. The S7 Pro did an admirable job of avoiding objects as well as guessing the rooms in my home. This even split my open floor kitchen and living room as separate rooms.

After this first-run mapping, you are presented with a room count and total area. You can use the app to rename rooms to your preferred name. I like this and make them easily recognizable.

It also means you don’t have to mark tape or have extra equipment to fence off zone. The red blocks on the map below are spots that have cords or fragile items in my house that I wanted to avoid with the S7 Pro. The vacuum will also suggest areas if it has a hard time with the terrain.

This comes in handy when you want to just run the S7 Pro vacuum in a single room. You open the app. Check the room you want to clean. Then, hit sweep. The S7 Pro will then only clean that designated area and return to the charging station.

The sweep action and suction on the S7 Pro does a great job at general cleaning. It’s not going to beat a standard Dyson vacuum anytime soon but is a much easier solution to touch up hardwood and low ply carpet.

The mopping feature however leaves a lot to be desired. I really couldn’t tell it did much. It’s the equivalent of running a damp washcloth over the floor. It struggles to even snag a small coffee drip recently spilled on a tile. Be prepared to still roll up your sleeves with at least a Swiffer mop for most instances.

Cleanup of the cleanup

One thing I’m happy to report over my only other experience with automated vacuums is that the Smart360 S7 Pro is pretty painless to maintain between uses. The dust bin is a cartridge style stored under a lid behind the LiDar cap.

I have one of the original Roombas from iRobot and the dust compartment is not intuitive at all and you often dump the debris you just cleaned up back onto the floor. This is due to this bin living on the underside of the unit. It’s nice to see Smart360 avoid this with a top-loading system.

Additional cleaning is simply removing the rolling brush and using the included hook and blade cleaner to remove hair or strings that may get tangled up. This is a struggle as static and “gunk” make it difficult to really remove everything. I tend to use the vacuum a few times and then soak the rolling brush and dust bin in lightly soapy water overnight.

Runtime

I have roughly 1,500 feet on my ground floor and the S7 Pro can clean the entirety on a single charge. I think that’s acceptable for the cleaning and size of my home. From start to finish takes about an hour and twenty minutes.

When the S7 Pro does need to recharge it simply goes back to the charging station. Using the map as a memory, the vacuum automatically retreats for a refresh. You don’t have to lift a finger… unless you have the door closed to the room the charging station is located.

Final thoughts

I was pleasantly surprised by how well the Smart360 S7 Pro performed. Having a machine that reliably maneuvers my home and cleans while I’m doing something else is awesome.

It’s also been a plus to see how far these types of machines have come since my last purchase. The additional technology makes it smarter, safer, and more efficient.

Pricing seems competitive as well with the S7 Pro at just over $400 on Amazon. I’d like to see this a little lower for the lack of results with the mopping option, but I think Smart360 has a great vacuum that should be worth your money. It’s even currently 18% off retail on Amazon bringing the price to a more manageable $342.

Treblab X3 Pro Sports earbuds review

Wireless earbuds are kind of a commonplace thing these days. Every audio company is seemingly dipping its toes into the wireless audio market. Treblab is one of those companies, who for some time now makes affordable quality devices that may not be immediately recognizable in retail stores. The new Treblab X3 Pro earbuds offer a sporty design for much less than some of those name brands.

Design

As mentioned the X3 wireless earbuds are targeting the sports crowd. The looped design is intended to be used by the active consumer who might find themselves at the gym or long runs. They look awfully similar to another Pro model that’s upwards to $250 dollars.

Thankfully, the design is still great. Even at $70, the Treblab X3 Pro earbuds are very comfortable. Most earbuds will fatigue the ears after 4-5 hours of constant use, but I’m happy to report that wasn’t an issue with the X3 Pro.

I lend this to the ear-hook and bud combination. Both offer support to positioned to separate parts of the ear. This disperses the weight, even though it’s super light, and avoids the small aches that would come with a more traditional earbud design.

As with most earbuds the packaging includes several silicone ear tips. This gives you the flexibility to make sure you have a secure, comfortable fit. These are marked in the box as Small, Medium, and Large.

IPX7 water resistance is also onboard with the Treblab X3 Pro. You can’t cater to the active crowd without being able to withstand an unexpected rainstorm or sweat at the gym.

Playback Controls

This is another strong segment of my review of the Treblab X3 Pro buds. I absolutely love that the button layout is exactly the same on each earbud. You have a large multifunction, center button for play and pause of audio. This same button can activate your preferred voice assistant with a double press.

The center button also interacts with phone calls by starting and stopping the call. Hold it for 1 second while your phone is ringing and it will ignore the caller. Lastly, if you extend that long press for 2 seconds it will power off the Treblab X3 Pro earbuds.

Just above the earbud portion in the crest of the loop, you will find the volume rocker. This allows you to control the volume of media and calls directly from the X3 Pro. I’ve grown to enjoy this additional touch while using these earbuds. It can be frustrating when enjoying the wireless revolution but still have to pull your phone out to interact with the volume levels.

Speaking of frustrations relieved by the X3 Pro, all of these inputs are exactly the same with each earbud. The X3 Pro supports both stereo (both earbuds synced and playing at the same time) or mono mode with a single earpiece. Many other brands do this, but most have dedicated functions that only work with one earbud.

Not having to remember if it’s the left or right one that turns the volume up, or if voice assistants can only be activated with the left earpiece has been fantastic. The Treblab X3 Pro earbuds just work. Regardless of which earbud you have in.

Audio

I was also pleasantly surprised by the audio quality. Playback is punchy and robust. Treblab has done a great job of balancing the feedback to capture bass and vocals without either drowning the other out.

The volume levels are better than most as well. I think it’s a flaw of the smaller design of most wireless earbuds, but the X3 Pro doesn’t suffer from low playback sound.

I was able to place a few phone calls and the opposing side of the conversations had no issues hearing me. Conversely, I found the audio to be more than acceptable on my end as well.

Battery Life and Charging

Each charge of the earbuds is rated at nine hours of playback. I found this to be spot-on accurate. I consistently got through an entire eight-hour work shift with no issue.

If you do need to charge on the go, the include battery case will recharge the X3 Pro earbuds an additional four times. This offers you 45 total hours of playback without an outlet.

The power case supports USB-C fast charge. So when you do need to top off you won’t have to wait long. Charging the case and the earbuds take just under two hours. One knock, if I had to choose one, is the case has to be pretty bulky to hold the larger looped earbuds.

Final Thoughts

If you couldn’t tell by this point, I’ve really enjoyed using the Treblab X3 Pro wireless earbuds. The hook design and light weight result in a comfortable fit that surpasses most others I’ve tested. Add that to above-average audio, and you have a win in my book.

Taking in all that and only having a price tag of $70 makes this a no brainer. The Treblab X3 Pro is available in one color, black, and can be purchased from Treblab’s Amazon page. Need an additional bump to pull the trigger? Our readers get a limited-time promo code for 15% off the final price on Amazon: TREBLABNEWX.

Are VPNs able to protect your Android device from cyberattacks?

0

When you see movies or television shows about hackers, they are often shown as being these super geniuses. Entertainment portrays hackers as being able to get access to any device, circumnavigate any safeties, and steal information with impunity.

You would be forgiven for thinking there is nothing that you can do to protect yourself against hackers if you do not have a computer science degree. However, nothing could be farther from the truth. There are several things that you can do to protect your Android device from cyber-attacks. A little of common sense and a bit of readily available technology will go a long way.

View post on imgur.com

What Is a VPN?

A VPN is one of the most powerful tools you have for protecting your Android device from hackers. When you surf the web or engage in transactions using unsecured Wi-Fi networks, your private information and browsing habits are exposed to the world.

A Clark School study at the University of Maryland showed that hackers attack every 39 seconds. The FBI reported that the number of complaints about cyberattacks since the pandemic started is about 4,000 a day, which is 400% more than what they were seeing before the pandemic. If you feel concerned about protecting yourself from hackers, a secure VPN service that guarantees no-logging policy should be high on your list for security and privacy.

Having a VPN on your Android device is especially important because it is likely that you use your Android device to read emails online, check your bank account, or even schedule visits with your doctor. You might take advantage of free Wi-Fi at a coffee shop or restaurant. Oftentimes, these Wi-Fi networks do not require a password. This means that anything you transmit while connected to the network is vulnerable to eavesdropping by people on the same network.

When you install a VPN on your Android device, you protect your online activity. A VPN keeps your browsing private and anonymous.

How Does a VPN Protect Your Android Device?

When you use a VPN on your Android device, you are creating a tunnel between yourself and a secondary location. The server you are connecting to could be on the other side of the globe. It gives the appearance that you are connecting to your favorite website or app from somewhere else. But this is just part of the protection a VPN offers.

A VPN will use encryption so that the data sent over a Wi-Fi network is scrambled. Scrambled data cannot be read. Even if someone could monitor the data you are sending, without being able to decrypt it, the information would be garbled and incoherent.

If you use your mobile data and avoid connecting to open Wi-Fi networks, you are still at risk of having your information monitored by your ISP. Your ISP can record your entire browsing history. However, if you use a VPN on your Android device, your search history is hidden.

You might think that you are not looking at anything online that you would want to hide from your ISP. However, it is amazing how seemingly innocuous information gathered from a person’s browsing history can build a profile about them that can target them for marketing, stealing their identity, or doing other harmful things.

It’s also good to remember that search engines monitor your search history. They do that by associating the information with your IP address. If you are using a VPN, they will associate your search history with an IP address that does not belong to you.

View post on imgur.com

What Things Will a VPN Hide?

Your VPN hides your location and your IP address. If a person has access to your correct IP address, they will know where you are and what you have been searching. You can think of your IP address in the same way you think about your physical address. It leads to your device. However, since a VPN is using an IP address that doesn’t belong to you, you are able to maintain privacy on your Android device and search the web anonymously.

A VPN hides your browsing history. Your web browser can track everything you do online. There are several websites that also keep your browsing history. Why is this so important to remember?

Let’s say that you have a medical condition that you are researching online. You want to get information about hospitals and treatment options. If you don’t use a VPN, you may be targeted with emails and ads that pop up at the wrong time, drawing further attention to a medical condition you want to keep private.

Another example is if you use your Android device to search plane ticket prices. You check for a price and then check back a few days later. Did you know that travel sites monitor how many times you visit them? If they can tell that you are looking for the same ticket repeatedly, they might not display the cheapest rates.

And don’t forget that your ISP might gather your browsing history to sell it. Even if your browser claims to be private, they might have a different definition of private than you do.

Using a VPN to Protect against Identity Theft

A VPN protects your data, so it protects you from identity theft. It allows you to use your Android device to send private data to your doctor, your bank, your school, or any other individual or entity without cyber criminals being able to access it.

To be sure, no one can 100 percent prevent identity theft. However, using a VPN on your Android device can make it harder for cyber criminals to steal the information that they want to steal from you. They can help keep your Android device safe.

Not all VPNs are created equal. Sadly, some VPNs have been the source of data breaches that have led to people being victimized by cyber criminals. Before choosing a VPN for your Android device, investigate their logging policies. Learn how they handle your privacy and about the VPN protocols they use.

It’s also good to know where the servers you are connecting to are located. Certain servers are in countries where your privacy rights are protected. Other servers are in countries where privacy rights are not a priority.

The Internet is a powerful tool. It can allow you to access information and services with the touch of a screen or button. By using a VPN on your Android device, you can feel safer online.

1More ColorBuds True Wireless Headphones review

Up for review today are a pair of true wireless earbuds from 1more. Priced $100 and offered in four color options, the ColorBuds promise 22 hours of music through their internal battery and the charging case. How do they sound? Are they comfortable? Read on to learn more.

Design

The ColorBuds from 1More are the most compact true wireless buds the brand has ever created. Upon opening the package I was shocked by how small and lightweight the buds and case are this time around. I was also pleasantly surprised to see 1More went with USB-C for charging over micro USB, one of the complaints I had in my review of the 1More Stylish True Wireless Headphones.

However, one thing I would have preferred 1More to retain from the Stylish True Wireless Headphones, is the matte finish on the case. Instead, the ColorBuds feature a shiny finish on the case that I fear will accumulate scratches over time, and has already proved to be a magnet for lint and dust. Plus, I just prefer the look of the matte black finish.

Comfort

I must admit, I was concerned about the fit and comfort. I have smaller than average ear canals and finding the right fit can be a bit challenging sometimes. One thing that always helps is when the buds include ear wings to prevent the buds from falling out, ensuring a tight and secure fit. All it took was inserting the ColorBuds for the first time to realize this concern was completely unfounded.

Whether using the medium-sized ear tips or the small, I found the buds stayed in my ears securely and comfortably. I was able to wear them for a couple of hours at a time without them falling out or causing any ear fatigue.

User Experience

In my review of the 1More Stylish True Wireless Headphones, I was rather harsh on them about the update process. I’m happy to report this has been greatly improved with the ColorBuds. The update process was streamlined and simplified this time around, only requiring you to open the case with the buds inside to upgrade the firmware.

Touch controls have never been my favorite on headphones. They can be a bit hit or miss, and getting accustomed to the timing for the tapping can take a little getting used to. In the end, I always find that they work fine, but it’s not as convenient as a physical button.

However, the choice to go with touch-sensitive controls here most likely helped 1More shrink down the size of the ColorBuds, which is a nice improvement.

A couple of additional features I enjoyed from the ColorBuds include, the ability to use a single earbud–whether it be the right or left bud–as well as the optical sensor, that automatically pauses music when you remove one of the buds from your ears and resumes playback once you reinsert it.

App

1More’s app is pretty simple and provides you with the basics, such as upgrading the firmware of the headphones or customizing the buttons. There are some improvements I’d love to see implemented though, such as an equalizer and the option to customize the shortcuts for each individual bud.

For example, I would have loved to assign play/pause to the right bud while assigning voice control to the left bud.

Finally, I’d appreciate it if 1More removed the notification shown by its app, because as far as I can tell, it is completely non-functioning. Trying to tap on any of the icons while listening to music does absolutely nothing–and even if it did–every music app already includes controls in the notification tray, making it a useless waste of space.

Sound Quality

The 1More ColorBuds use the Qualcomm aptX codec for a stable connection and high-quality sound when streaming Bluetooth audio.

As far as the actual characteristics of the audio quality, I found the ColorBuds to have a more limited soundstage than I prefer. However, the bass was tight and punchy, which is great for most pop and rap songs. The highs, on the other hand, were a bit reserved, while still allowing for most of the details from tracks to come through.

Overall, the ColorBuds don’t sound overly bright, but they aren’t too bass-heavy either–landing somewhere in the middle–offering a mostly flat and balanced sound signature.

Battery Life

1More rates the ColorBuds for up to 6 hours on a single charge, and after a few weeks of usage, I can vouch for that. What’s even better is the buds only require a 15-minute charge for an additional two hours of battery life. This should ensure that you’ll never have to go too long without your tunes while on the go.

Final Thoughts

1More has produced its most compact pair of truly wireless headphones with the ColorBuds. They offer decent sound quality with fantastic battery life and all for under $100, after clipping the coupon on Amazon.

However, while the sound quality is entirely acceptable for the price range, if you’re looking for a pair of truly wireless headphones with a wider soundstage and brighter highs, I’d recommend you try out the bulkier Stylish True Wireless Headphones from 1More. These days you can even pick them up for less than the ColorBuds, just make sure you clip the coupon from Amazon when ordering.
