YouTube TV has finally arrived on the PS5, Roku users still out of luck

0

Good news for all those lucky enough to have snagged a PS5 and happen to be subscribed to YouTube TV, because the app has finally landed on the next-gen console. Yesterday, Google added it to the list of officially supported devices, and it’s about time.

It’s been nearly six months since the PS5 launched, and while it has had access to a multitude of streaming apps since the beginning, YouTube TV was one service that has been missing. However, this is an improvement over the previous generation of PlayStation consoles, because the PS4 didn’t get the YouTube TV app until January 2020.

This is a far cry from the support that the Xbox consoles have received. The new Xbox Series X and Series S both had access to the app since day one. Even the Xbox One received the YouTube TV app far in advance of the PS4. There’s no telling why Google treats PlayStation as a second-class citizen, but all that matters is that PS5 users can now finally access YouTube TV.

This could be very appealing for any Roku users out there, as Google and Roku recently had a dispute that saw YouTube TV removed from Roku’s app store. At the moment, the only way to use YouTube TV on a Roku is to already have the app installed.

What should come as no surprise, is that both companies are pointing the finger at each other. Roku claims Google wanted to change the deal and would “allow for manipulation of your search results, impact the usage of your data, and ultimately cost you more.”

While Google places the blame entirely on Roku, saying that the streaming box maker was using this as an opportunity to renegotiate terms for the main YouTube app. Furthermore, in Google’s statement, it says that Roku refuses to support open-source codecs which would prevent you from watching YouTube in 4K HDR or 8K.

For now, at least you’ll know you can enjoy YouTube TV on your PS5, while we wait for Google and Roku to kiss and make up.

Data shows that sales of Chromebooks has skyrocketed in Q1 of 2021

0

Chromebooks have been very popular for education uses over the past few years. Sure, iPads and laptops are still very common, but few can compete with the Chromebook when it comes to price and performance for learning purposes.

Seeing how we are still in the midst of the worst pandemic in a century, it should be no surprise that Chromebook sales are through the roof. The latest data from analytic firm Canalys shows that in the first quarter of 2021 sales of Chromebooks grew 275% since Q1 2020.

That’s a massive jump in sales. Laptops and tablets also saw an increase, with notebooks surging 62% in Q1 and tablets up by 52%. While those are impressive numbers all around, the real winner is Chromebooks by a mile. They have outsold laptops and tablets by a wide margin, just look at the graph below.

The only category that seems to be shrinking during the pandemic is desktop computers, which saw a decline of 4% from the first quarter last year.

One of the analysts at Canalys, Brian Lynch, had this to say about the recent meteoric rise of Chromebooks.

Chromebooks are well and truly a mainstream computing product now. While the education sector still accounts for the majority of shipments, their popularity with consumers and traditional commercial customers has reached new heights over the course of the last year. HP and Lenovo dominate the Chromebook market, but the boom has been a case of a rising tide lifting all boats, allowing vendors such as Acer and Samsung to carve out substantial shares within the PC market by catering specifically to Chromebook demand.

HP, Lenovo, Acer, Samsung, and Dell all lead in sales for Chromebooks, with HP claiming the top spot by a wide margin. Even though Samsung sits far behind in the fourth-place slot, sales of its Chromebooks have exploded.

In the first quarter of 2021 alone, Samsung saw an increase of 2233% in sales of its Chromebooks. That still puts it at nearly a quarter of the sales that HP did in the same timeframe, but it’s clear that demand is growing and manufacturers are benefiting by pumping out more Chromebook devices.

While all of those numbers are certainly impressive, a separate research company, IDC, reports an even higher increase in Chromebook sales. According to IDC’s data, Chromebooks saw a 357.1% growth year on year in the first quarter of 2021. IDC also shows a discrepancy in rankings, with Dell taking the number four slot and Samsung rounding out the top five.

The numbers may not match between these two research firms, but one thing is certain, Chromebooks are gaining steam during the pandemic.

Twitter no longer crops images in your timeline on Android and iOS

0

Any long-time Twitter users out there knows how irritating it can be to browse your feed and have to click every image to see the entire thing. Well, back in March, Twitter began teasing a new feature on the way which would allow you to see the full-size image in your feed without tapping.

Now, the day has finally come, goodbye cropped images, and hello to no longer having to tap to see the full image. Twitter rolled out the change yesterday with an announcement tweet from its Twitter Support account. The tweet read, “Now available to everyone on Android and iOS โ€“โ€“ how your image looks in the Tweet composer is how it will look on the timeline.”

Users immediately began noticing the improvement in their timelines as various hashtags relating to the change began trending.

Beyond showing the full view of the images, Twitter has also been working on some other enhancements when showing media on its platform. In an additional tweet from the March announcement, the Twitter Support account added that it is “testing ways for you to upload and view 4K images on Android and iOS.”

To check if you’re part of the test, check under the Data usage settings to see if you have the option for high-quality image uploads. Hopefully, this change rolls out to everyone on both platforms soon, because viewing the whole image is even better when it’s in higher quality.

Top reasons why your business fails to implement SEO

Certain companies implement SEO campaigns but fail to get benefits from this strategy. If you find that even after making efforts your website could not make it to the first page of the search engine. It could be due to a few common reasons that are causing your business to fail at SEO.

AIA is a SEO Sydney company that is an experienced, transparent, credible, and highly recommended, SEO agency in Sydney. The company has more than twenty years of knowledge and experience in SEO. Their team of SEO strategists helps businesses reap the best possible results, and transform your web pages into a money-making machine in the least time.

Expecting quick results

The number one mistake that businesses make when implementing SEO is expecting quick gains from the strategy. It is important to understand that SEO is a continuing process that can require long-term endeavour to reap results.

Ideally, it would take around four to six months for the SEO firms to show desired results. Stay patient and have this assurance that the SEO results will grow with time.

Your Website UX Is Poor

The customer would want to visit those websites that have an intuitive and user-friendly user interface. Such websites provide a better experience and appeal to customers. Also, Google considers user experience as a major factor to rank your website to rank high than your competitor.

Not using social media as part of your SEO strategy

Another mistake that people make is that they do not incorporate social media in their SEO strategy. It is important to know that links from social media could help in providing better visibility, increased traffic and improved engagement with the audience.

Thus, the incorporation of social media in an SEO strategy can cause a big impact on the search rankings of a business.

Targeting very competitive keywords

It is essential to stay realistic at the time of selecting the keywords that you want to target. There will be lesser chances of success when you target phrases and words that everyone also targets.

The right strategy is to choose phrases that are very relevant to personal services or products that obtain a decent number of searches but doesnโ€™t look highly competitive. Such phrases have higher chances of conversion in the business.

No installation of Goal Tracking and Analytics software

Another important thing that can cause failure in SEO is no relevant goal tracking and analytics programs installed on the website. These are the two important functionalities that will help determine what works and what doesnโ€™t work on the business website.

A business does not just need to install Google Search Console and Google Analytics and track these elements. Google Analytics can help you check the following things:

  • New conversion of visitors
  • Value per visit
  • Sources for incoming traffic
  • Bounce rate
  • Interactions per visit
  • Conversion of return visitors
  • Costs associated to lead generation
  • Pageviews
  • Exit pages
  • Average session duration

Failing to check for broken links

Broken links on the website are one of the reasons that can cause failure in the SEO of your business website. If your website users get a 404 page, then they are likely to leave the website in search of information. Several broken links could impact your website rankings as well as user experience in damaging ways.

You have a slow website

The time that it takes to load your website also determines the success of your SEO. The audience generally prefers accessing a website that takes less time to load. A slow-loading website causes them frustration and chooses other websites over yours.

The website loading page is also a key factor that search engines like Google uses to rank the website on the search engine results page. Thus, along with making your mobile-friendly website, you should also aim at improving its page loading website than ever.

Conclusion

So, we have seen that several reasons can cause a website to fail in its efforts of advancing organic SERPs. There can be more reasons out of the above list that can lead to the failure of an SEO campaign. If you identify any of these reasons then it is beneficial to take the necessary preventive measures to prevent the loss.

Colaze 5-In-1 Immersion Hand Blender review

0

About two months ago, I stopped in at a neighborโ€™s house to pick up some homemade pizza dough. He proceeded to make sauce from canned whole tomatoes. A dash of Italian herbs and he blended it into a delicious sauce right inside the can. I knew I had to have one of those immersion blenders. Ironically, within a couple of weeks, I had the opportunity to test and review the Colaze 5-in-1 Immersion Hand Blender.

The unit features a stick blender, a chopper, an egg whisk, and a milk frother. Iโ€™m not exactly what Colaze considers the 5th feature or function but the box includes a blending/measuring cup so Iโ€™m going to assume itโ€™s that.ย

The Colaze hand blender is reasonably priced at $39.99 but Iโ€™m going to measure its capabilities against a Blendtec blender and an Oster Beehive blender/chopper. Combined, those items cost close to $500 so this is not necessarily a fair comparison but those are the results with which Iโ€™m familiar.

Design

The hand blender consists of the motor unit and what Iโ€™ll refer to as attachments. Those attachments are as stated above; stick blender, chopper, whisk and frother.

The motor unit features two separate rubberized momentary switches. The top switch is tied to the motor speed dial which ranges from 1 to 12 (better than Spinal Tap), while the bottom is the โ€œturboโ€ button delivering max speed.

Towards the bottom of the motor are release buttons that lock the attachments to the motor. The couplings mating the motor to those attachments are made of plastic which Iโ€™m guessing will be the point of failure in the long run. I had difficulty in meshing up the gears of the attachments to the motor on occasion but once they are lined up, the attachments snap into place with a satisfying click.

Performance

Stick Blender – My family makes smoothies several times per week. They are relatively simple with a mixture of frozen blueberries or mixed berries, milk or yogurt and ice. This job is a piece of cake for the Blendtec and the results are usually perfectly blended with a consistency of soft serve ice cream. Using cheaper blenders in the past typically resulted in dime sized chunks of ice and requiring additional liquid. In other words, this was a tall order for the Colaze stick blender.ย

I took it easy on the Colaze on its maiden smoothie. I used fresh blueberries and strawberries and milk. I unwittingly made the task more difficult by adding ice on top of the soft fruit.

I honestly wasnโ€™t sure whether or not I would have to start over and place the ice cubes on the bottom. However, to my surprise; the Colaze stick blender was able to crush the ice and proceed down into the berries and milk. I was honestly impressed. The consistency wasnโ€™t as perfectly smooth as it would have been in my Blendtec blender but much better than the $50 department store blenders Iโ€™ve used in the past.

Chopper – Or “choppa” as Arnold Schwarzenegger would call it. After buying the Blendtec, I considered ditching the Oster Beehive blender altogether but kept it for one reason alone. It had a chopper attachment that allowed me to make fresh garden salsa and guacamole. The Oster chopper was never great and I often had to add ample amounts of liquid to get it to chop cilantro and jalapeno peppers.

On top of that, the shallow bowl design meant that liquid would usually overflow leaving a mess to clean up. The Colaze chopper has a much deeper bowl design and the lid fits tighter atop.ย

I loaded the chopper with cilantro, jalapenos, lime juice, and dried spices and easily chopped them into salsa-sized bits. I added tomato and that too chopped nicely. The bowl held in all of the liquid and cleanup was a cinch. Impressive for a kitchen tool that wonโ€™t set you back more than two Andrew Jacksons.

Clean-Up – If I had to dig for a complaint, it would be in the cleanup department. The stick blender attachment, chopper lid, base for whisk and frother attachment, and obviously the motor itself are not fully submersible. The stick blender in particular is tricky to hand wash but Iโ€™ve learned to blend soapy water immediately after use, which isnโ€™t awful. Just not as convenient as throwing it into the dishwasher.

I havenโ€™t used the whisk or frother so I canโ€™t comment on how effective or not they are. I assume they will perform as equally well as the other functions.

Cautionary notes – For those who donโ€™t always read the manual, I will point out that the motor has continuous run time limits as follows.

  • Stick blender: 1 minute
  • Chopper: 15 seconds
  • Whisk/Frother: 2 minutes

The motor does have overheat protections in place so in the event you donโ€™t abide by the recommended time limits, damage to the motor unit is at least minimized.

Conclusion

Overall, I am very impressed with the performance of the Colaze 5-in-1 hand blender. My family will use it a couple of times per week to make smoothies when they donโ€™t want to mess with pulling out the โ€œbigโ€ blender. At the time of this review, Amazon is offering a 15% discount off the already reasonable price of $39.99.ย

Only time will tell if this will hold up but I after a couple months of usage, I havenโ€™t noticed any excessive wear and tear. If you are in need of an immersion blender or simple food processor; I would highly recommend the Colaze 5-in-1.

US Mobile introduces Pooled Plans with customizable shareable data

0

If you find yourself overpaying for data you didn’t use or going a little crazy each month trying to manage your data, US Mobile might just have the answer for you.

Recently, it announced a brand new Pooled Plans with shareable data. The best part–there are no contracts, no overages, and you only pay for the data you need.

โ€œPooled Plans offer a new level of customizability that hasnโ€™t been seen before,โ€ said CEO and Founder of US Mobile, Ahmed Khattak. โ€œThese plans are tailored to fit your exact needs, down to the gigabyte. Weโ€™re proud to expand our product offerings, and we canโ€™t wait for customers to experience it.โ€

It all starts with paying $9 a month per line for the Pooled Plan, and then $2 per GB. As an example, a family of four on the plan would pay $13 per line a month for 8GB of shareable data. That’s pretty cheap, and with the freedom to add a gigabyte of data for only $2, the plan offers plenty of flexibility for when you need additional data.

Plus, taxes are already included in the Pooled Plans pricing, which means you won’t get hit with any surprise charges. That is, with the exception of the $0.48 Regulatory Cost Recovery charge for each line.

Customers who sign-up for the Pooled Plans get:

  • Unlimited Talk & Text
  • Warp Speeds on 5G and Ludicrous speeds on 4G LTE
  • Mobile Hotspot feature included, data is shared from the Pool
  • Organize and label lines with names to easily identify
  • Dashboard with real time reporting and usage analytics
  • Usage alerts when running low on data
  • Ability to snooze and resume lines at any time

Furthermore, US Mobile makes it easy to manage data and track who is using what with the pooled plans dashboard. Keep an eye on your overall data usage, who’s been overusing data, and who needs more all in one place.

Not only is this great for managing a family plan, but it would be perfect for businesses of any size. The dashboard can help you manage the employees on your plan and ensure you always have a pool of affordable data no matter how large your business grows. For a more in-depth look, you can check out US Mobile’s blog post on how they built pooled plans.

Amazon’s Alexa Show Mode feature can transform some PCs into an Echo Show

0

Have you ever wanted the convenience of a smart display without having to pony up the extra money for one? If so, this could be great news for some of you. I say some of you, because unfortunately, Amazon’s great new Alexa feature only works with select Windows 10 Lenovo PCs. However, if you’re one of those lucky ones to own a Lenovo Yoga, IdeaPad, or ThinkPad with Alexa built-in, then get ready for a treat.

Amazon’s latest addition to the Alexa family isn’t a new device, but a new feature to turn your current device into an Echo Show. With the newly released Show Mode, it uses your laptop’s display and mics to transform it into an Alexa smart display.

To get started, all you have to do is say “Alexa, open Show Mode” or you can click the Show Mode button in the Alexa app. Now, you can ask Alexa to display news, the weather, listen to music, control your smart home, and more. With over 100,000 skills and growing, Alexa has something for everyone.

Whether it’s listening to your latest audiobook, playing games with the family, or setting a cooking timer–Alexa has you covered. You can even use Drop In to check on other rooms in the house with an Alexa device.

With the new Alexa Show Mode for PCs, your computer has become more useful than ever. Even when you’re not sitting in front of it, you can take advantage of its large display and all without spending an extra dime.

Lenovo and Amazon first announced this collaboration at CES 2021 on the Lenovo Yoga Slim 9i laptop. It’s now available on select Lenovo PCs running Windows 10 in the US, UK, Germany, Japan, India, Ireland, Austria, Canada, France, Italy, Spain, Australia and New Zealand. Later this year, Show Mode will become available on additional PC models.

Total Wireless Buyer’s Guide

0

Most consumers are familiar with the big-name wireless carriers like Verizon, AT&T, and T-Mobile. Not nearly as many, though, are as well-versed when it comes to the topic of Mobile Virtual Network Operators (MVNO), the smaller companies to license coverage from the tier-one providers.

These lesser-known brands offer their own phones, rate plans, and customer service. Let’s take a look at one in particular, Total Wireless — a TracFone subsidiary.

How is Total Wireless coverage?

Total Wireless sets itself apart from the competition by emphasizing multi-line plans while leveraging Verizon’s highly regarded network coverage. In the beginning, it only offered 3G service and was exclusive to Walmart, but today it is full (4G LTE) speed ahead and more accessible.

What are Total Wireless rate plans?

Total Wireless includes unlimited talk and text with all plans. Enrollment into auto-refill saves subscribers 5% on monthly plan.  Also worth noting, two of the options now include mobile hotspot capabilities.

Single Line

  • $25.00 per month โ€“ 1GB high speed data (unlimited talk/text)
  • $35.00 per month โ€“ 5GB high speed data
  • $50.00 per month โ€“ Unlimited high speed data, slowed at 25GB

Extended Plan

Customers interested in purchasing plans in quarterly increments can do so under what’s called an Extended Plan. For $90, subscribers can get unlimited talk and text with 5GB of data every 30 days. It’s like buying the aforementioned $35 plan three months at once and receiving $15 discount.

Multi-Device Plans

Subscribers with multiple users can share data across 2-4 lines with unlimited talk and text included. As for the data allotments and price, it breaks down as follows.

  • $60 โ€“ 30GB shared on up to two lines
  • $85 โ€“ 60GB shared on up to three lines
  • $100 โ€“ Unlimited high-speed data, slowed at 100GB, up to four lines

As is the case with standalone lines, customers can save money by enrolling in automatic bill payment. The prices shown in the image above reflect the discount.

What deals does Total Wireless offer?

You can check for deals at the Total Wireless website where a few models are currently shown with price drops.

Tell me about Total Wireless phone selection

Phones from manufacturers such as Apple, Samsung, LG, Alcatel, and ZTE are available for purchase online, along with retail options like Walmart, Best Buy, and Target.

Customers can also bring devices they currently own, however it must be CDMA. If unsure, check compatibility to see if you can add a SIM card.

There are plenty of wireless service providers to choose from, at least here in the United States. In fact, it may seem as if there are too many options to consider. But when it comes down to it, many of them rely on the networks offered by Verizon, AT&T, and T-Mobile.

Total Wireless, a Mobile Virtual Network Operator (MVNO), is one such carrier. Indeed, it has its own rate plans and features, but it licenses coverage from Verizon.

When it comes to buying a phone for use on Total Wireless there are a few options to consider. For starters, you can bring your current Verizon device to the carrier. Additionally, you can buy an unlocked CDMA phone for use on Total.

Customers can also purchase a phone directly from Total Wireless. While there’s a fairly decent and well-rounded handset selection, a few key models rise to the top.

What follows are some of the best Android phones available at Total Wireless today. These aren’t the most powerful, but rather the best for particular needs.

Samsung Galaxy S21 Ultra

The cream of the crop when it comes to Samsung’s 2021 phone lineup, very few handsets can rival its performance. Not only that, but it’s prettier than ever with the new color options, too.

Come for the Qualcomm Snapdragon 888 processor and the 12GB RAM, stay for the 5,000mAh battery and quad-core camera. Of course there’s plenty in between as well and it’s all in service of high-end prowess.

Everything runs smoothly but it looks even smoother when you’ve got a 6.8-inch Quad HD+ display that delivers to the tune of 120Hz refresh rate.

Samsung Galaxy Note 20 Ultra

The Best Available

If youโ€™re looking for the biggest and most powerful all-around device from Total Wireless, this is it. With a screen size (6.9-inches) that rivals early tablets, it packs an upgraded S Pen stylus and cutting-edge hardware. Oh, and then thereโ€™s a first-of-its-kind 108-megapixel camera, too.

Powered by Android 10 with Samsungโ€™s custom UI, the handset has generous battery, tons of (expandable) storage, and support for Verizonโ€™s Ultra Wideband 5G network. Choose from Cosmic Black and Cosmic Gray color options, both of which are stunning.

Motorola Moto G7 Optimo Maxx

Well-rounded and Affordable

This is a great phone for first-time buyers and those who don’t need all that much from their handset. It’s a solid mix of entry-level hardware with a clean and user-friendly version of Android.

The Motorola phone offers up a 6.2-inch HD+ display, 12-megapixel rear camera, and a 5,000mAh battery. For those who don’t know what that means, it’s enough juice to get many users through two days of usage.

Samsung Galaxy A50

An Affordable Galactic Star

One of the best things about today’s breed of smartphones is that you can often purchase a generation or two later and still end up with more than you need. Or, you can go with the Galaxy A series which is a way to get many of the better features found in more prominent models.

For about one third of today’s flagship phone you can get something that will last a couple of years. We’re talking plenty of hardware, a beauty of a screen, and one of the better cameras around. Here youโ€™ll get a sizable (6.4-inch) screen, plenty of memory and storage, and a triple-camera setup on the back.

LG Stylo 5

Multi-task on a Budget

Big, practical, and the only one with a stylus, the LG Stylo 5 provides users with a large screen and an extra bit of functionality. The 6.2-inch display offers up plenty of high-definition space for scribbling notes, marking up documents, and more.

Running Android 9, the phone is powered by an octa-core processor with 3GB RAM. Storage comes in at 32GB with a 3500mAh battery that should give users more than a day’s worth of usage. Wrapping things up, the LG handset has a dual camera configuration on the rear.

What else?

Total Wireless offers a $10 global calling card that can be added to any plan. Users can place international calls from the U.S. or Puerto Rico. Rates vary.
