Tempur-Pedic Sleeptracker review

0

There is no way around it — sleep is incredibly important. It’s not just about how much time you spend doing it, or how long you were in R.E.M. sleep. There are many other factors, including when you sleep, the overall quality, and what you’re doing before nodding off at night. Also important are the temperature and lighting in your sleep environment.

The older we get the more we take sleep seriously. Waste too much of your life getting poor or little sleep and you could end up with any number of potential side effects. Diabetes, heart attack, stroke, high blood pressure, poor skin, weight gain, low sex drive, and memory problems are just some of the more common ones.

Sleep tracking is one of the most popular features built into wearables, activity bands, and smart watches. Moreover, it’s also a key component in the new Nest Hub from Google. More and more we’re finding that companies are taking steps to enable and empower people with the knowledge and tools for better sleep.

A wearable device is nice because it can track your heart rate, length of time sleeping, and time that you slept. But, it cannot tell you if your room is too bright or if the air quality is less than ideal. On the other side of the coin is something like the Nest Hub (2nd Gen) which remotely captures a whole array of sleep-related data. Awesome yes, but it won’t do any good if you fall asleep on the couch for three hours before heading to bed.

When it comes to sleep tracking there’s no one-size-fits-all solution. Fortunately, things get better all the time and new players continue to enter the space.

Tempur-Pedic, a name who should be familiar to many, has been in the sleep game for more than thirty years. Having cut its teeth on mattresses and pillows, it has evolved its product line to include new things such as its Sleeptracker.

Offered as a bundle, it includes a sensor for each side of the bed, a processing unit, a smart cable, and a power adapter.

Using the companion app you can track your sleep on a minute-by-minute basis, getting insights into the overall length and quality. Whatโ€™s more, it can tell you whether or not your sleeping environment is ideal.ย

Allergy sufferers know how much of a nuisance it is to wake up with a stuffy nose or find themselve sneezing. That stuff can impact your sleep. So can CO2 levels, temperature, humidity, and overall air purity.ย

The data from the app may ultimately lead you to setting the thermostat a little lower at night, or running a dehumidifier.ย

Thereโ€™s an AI-based sleep coach inside the app that will help you get better, more restful sleep based off of your individual behavior and sleep settings. Between goals and recommendations alone youโ€™ll find small changes in behavior can have meaningful impact.

You may have your alarm set to wake you at 7AM each day but perhaps youโ€™d do better waking at 6:43AM instead. Indeed, the sensors can help the app understand when you are at your lightest part of the sleep cycle, making it easier for you to wake up feeling refreshed.

Thereโ€™s something strangely powerful in having data and then actually using it. The simple notion of a sleep score, to us, turned sleep time into a game of sorts as we try to get a better number each day. Factor in being able to understand that your bedroom setting could be optimized a bit, and youโ€™re on the fast track to better sleep.ย

For all of these great features, we need to tell you that you actually get two sets of sleep data. Share a bed with a partner? The Tempur-Pedic Sleeptracker is smart enough to detect the individual users and offer separate scores and insights.

We tend to have a dog or two jump in and out bed at night, sometimes cuddling up as close as possible. How does the Sleeptracker handle this? It does a decent job of omitting the unwanted movement or weight but it will occasionally view it as you being restless.

Conclusion

When it comes to tracking our sleep, we prefer things that are non-invasive, and that’s what the Tempuer-Pedic Sleeptracker is. It fits any bed size, installs in minutes, and gives users actionable data and insight.

If taking better care of yourself is important, and it should be, you’d be wise to start with better, more peaceful sleep. You’d also be smart to look into your sleeping arrangements, be it room temperature, air purity, and humidity levels.

The Tempur-Pedic Sleeptracker is able to provide all of this, plus more, in a friendly and intuitive mobile experience. Learn more about this, and other Tempur-Pedic products at the brand’s website where you can purchase the Sleeptracker for $299.

Windows 10X crossed off the drawing board

0

Windows 10X is was Microsoft’s competitor to Chrome OS that had a planned launch this year. However, the project has apparently been scrapped. It had the advantage of better

New reports from Windows Central suggests that Microsoft’s Sun Valley efforts towards a UI refresh in October has exhausted resources that would go towards Windows 10X.

However, as we were nearing a final version of Windows 10X, Microsoft plans not to waste those innovations and are planning to bring them to the full version of Windows 10 as part of Sun Valley.

It will be interesting to see if Windows 10X or a similar project will be revamped, but if Microsoft continues to innovate on the full version of Windows 10 with initiatives like Sun Valley, the necessity of Windows 10X seems quite low.

Nokia revises Android 11 release schedule

0

Nokia released an update schedule back in October of 2020 indicating when it’s devices would be updated to Android 11. Since then, however, this schedule has been completely revised.

Essentially, most devices had their updates pushed back by a quarter, regardless of budget, mid-ranger or flagship status.

This is quite disappointing as HMD Global used to be one of the biggest faces of the Android One lineup and now have continued to slip in respect to having quick updates and long-lasting support. Nokia phones are also very solid, with great battery life, cameras, and design.

Hopefully the company will stick to this update schedule and will recover the confidence of their highly disappointed consumers and keep great software on this amazing hardware.

OnePlus thinking about themes

0

OnePlus’s OxygenOS is a beautiful, near-stock Android skin. Now, they are planning some changes to further expand the skin.

On a forum post last week, OnePlus announced the topic for an upcoming Open Ears Forum, an event OnePlus conducts where users can talk directly to OnePlus concerning their thoughts on a predetermined topic.

The topic this time around: a theme store. In the forum post, OnePlus said:

The OxygenOS team is exploring a Theme Store feature idea to be brought to the OS in a future update. However, before we do it, we want to discuss it with some of our users, to hear your feedback about this upcoming feature with you, and to get your insights about it.

Crystal Z., https://forums.oneplus.com/threads/join-our-online-oef-theme-store.1427214/

Samsung is probably the most notable manufacturer to include a theme store, and I have my own qualms about how it’s implemented, but I am hopeful that the aforementioned simplicity of OxygenOS translates into a smoother experience if and when they decide to include themes.

If you’re interested in hearing the discussion or participating yourself on May 18, check out the forum post for more information. You can also check out our OnePlus 9 Pro review here.

Meet the company that makes shopping for car insurance easy

No one looks forward to shopping for car insurance. Because the process can feel complicated, many people don’t shop around for the best rate available. The result? Americans overpay on car insurance to the tune of $37 billion per year.

Getting the best rate for car insurance should not be such a to-do. That is where The Zebra earns its stripes. The company makes it easy to compare and shop for car insurance plans across more than 100 trusted providers, all in one place. That means no clicking around on dozens of websites looking for relevant plan information, spending hours taking notes and trying to see how each plan stacks up.

It also means that you won’t have to enter your information into forms over and over again, knowing that each time, you’re likely to start getting marketing emails that you didn’t ask for. The Zebra promises that when you provide your information, it will never sell it to other companies who will try to follow up with annoying calls and emails.

The Zebra does not buy or sell leads, nor does it collect personally identifying information just to monetize it. Instead, it just offers you the information you need to know. It has the largest network of insurance providers and it lets you compare all offerings directly on its website.

There is no guarantee that you will find a lower rate on your insurance, but there is absolutely no downside in taking a look โ€” especially when you know that your information will be protected. When people do find a better deal through The Zebra, they save an average of $368 per year. You can surely find something that you’d rather do with your time and money than spend it on car insurance. The Zebra gives you the opportunity to do just that.

No hassle, no spam, no downside. The Zebra makes shopping for car insurance actually feel productive instead of frustrating.

Samsung reportedly launching the Galaxy S21 FE, Galaxy Z Fold 3, and Galaxy Z Flip 3 in August

0

According to a report from South Korean news outlet Yonhap, Samsung is getting ready to grace us with three new phones in late August. The list includes the Galaxy S21 FE, Galaxy Z Fold 3, and Galaxy Z Flip 3. So if you’ve been saving up for the next Samsung flagship, now you know when they are coming.

You might have noticed, there was no mention of a Galaxy Note device here. That’s because there have been rumors for a while now that Samsung would be dropping the Note series from its lineup.

Sorry all you long-time Note fans, I guess Samsung figures the Galaxy Fold is the natural successor to the Note series of phones, and with its large display and S Pen support, it practically is.

Previously, leaks had pointed to the Galaxy S21 FE launching on August 19, and while there is no official date for Samsung’s next event, this does track with the latest report from Yonhap.

Last year, the Galaxy S20 FE launched in October, and the Galaxy Fold 2 and Galaxy Z Flip debuted in September. Samsung usually holds an event for the Note series in August, but this year it looks like it is consolidating events, and taking the opportunity to launch its replacement alongside the other models.

Not much is known about the trio of phones that are set to launch in a few months, but some leaks have pointed towards the Galaxy Fold 3 featuring an under-display selfie camera, and a lower price for the Galaxy S21 FE. There are also rumors that the Galaxy Z Flip 3 could have a larger display and cheaper prices this time around as well.

One thing is for sure, history has shown the closer we get to the event, the more information that will leak out. So you won’t have to wait much longer to discover more about Samsung’s latest smartphones.

Clubhouse begins beta testing its app on Android

0

The app Clubhouse took off last year during the COVID-19 pandemic by allowing people to create audio-only chatrooms. In fact, it became so popular that well-known tech billionaires such as Elon Musk and Mark Zuckerberg even took part in group chats on the app.

Part of what makes Clubhouse so well-liked is that each room is controlled by moderators, and features speakers and listeners to prevent it from turning into a mess with users screaming over each other.

However, there are two major problems with Clubhouse, the first being that you’ll need an invite to use it, and the second being that it was only available on iOS. Thankfully, that second reason has now been resolved, because Clubhouse made the announcement on its blog that it was rolling out a beta for the Android version of the app.

The rollout does come with some caveats though. For starters, you’re still going to need an invite to be able to use the app. Secondly, the beta is only available in the U.S. at this time. Not to worry though, according to the post, it will expand to other English-speaking countries and eventually the rest of the world.

For now, the team just wants to collect feedback from the community, fix any issues, and add additional features. Below is a list of features the app is currently lacking, and there are a lot. This is a beta after all. Afterward, they plan on rolling the app out more broadly.

  • Topic following
  • Localization and in-app translations
  • Club creation or club management
  • Twitter account or Instagram account linking
  • Update name or update username in-app
  • Sidebar
  • Payments (currently U.S. only for iOS)
  • You can report someone from their profile but reporting via the recent speaker choice will be coming soon

The big problem for Clubhouse is that it’s facing competition from some major players. Twitter has Spaces, Reddit has Reddit Talk, Spotify is looking to host audio chats with creators, and Facebook has a similar feature in the works as well.

While Clubhouse may have kicked off the boon, ignoring Android users for the better part of a year may come back to haunt them as competitors spring up left and right.

Oppo Find X3 will get three years of security updates

0

Oppo announced today that their Find X3 series (including the Neo, the Lite, and the Pro) will enjoy three years of security patches, up from the previous two years for other Oppo devices. This puts them on par with Google, which is a good step for the manufacturer. While behind Samsung’s policy of four years, Oppo is currently investigating this possibility to see if the hardware can handle it. One thing to note, however, is that these devices will only get two years of software updates. This means that the phone that launched with Android 11 will be upgraded up to Android 13.

Oppo Find X3 Pro

Oppo has become the fourth-largest phone manufacturer and the Find X3 Pro is a very amazing phone, with this new update policy making it even more attractive. You can read more about the Find X3 Pro here.

Best unlocked phones priced $600 and higher

When it comes to purchasing a mobile device, buying an unlocked phone might be one of the smartest routes to take. There are plenty of reasons to consider an unlocked phone, including freedom to select and change carriers.

Given that technology outpaces consumer demands, most of us don’t really need a brand new flagship phone. But for those who like to stay on the cutting edge of technology, a high-end phone is always interesting.

If you’re shopping around for a new phone, and want to work with a fairly open-ended budget, we’ve got good news. There is a lot to choose from as it pertains to unlocked handsets in that price range.

We’ve gathered up a handful of attractive options that fall in the area of $600 or higher. Here, we showcase a variety of phone makers and models with some of the standout features.

How we Decided

We set a few basic guidelines in place to help consolidate the list of candidates. The models that follow all had to adhere to a couple of pre-requisites. Each phone has to run Android 11 or newer and have at least 8GB RAM. Additionally, we trimmed our list to devices with batteries of 4,000mAh or higher capacity.

This means current versions of software, plenty of memory for any task, and battery that easily lasts through a day or more.

Google Pixel 5

Googleโ€™s latest smartphone, the Pixel 5, builds on its predecessors in all the right ways, including price. Slightly less expensive than the previous generation, itโ€™s a well-rounded phone that dances between mid-range and high-end hardware.

It runs the newest and most powerful version of Android yet and features another excellent camera experience, especially for the point-and-shoot user types. Standout details include water-resistant coating, wireless charging, and the return of the fingerprint reader.

Purchase the Google Pixel 5

OnePlus 9 Pro

The most powerful handset that OnePlus has ever produced, this one has pretty much every bell and whistle imaginable. Starting with the 6.7-inch display with an incredibly high 120Hz refresh rate and Fluid Display technology, things only get more interesting.

Strength comes from the Qualcomm snapdragon 888 processor with up to 12GB LPDDR5 RAM and 256GB UFS 3.1 storage, while the Android 11-based OxygenOS software gives users a delightful interface.

Perhaps most interestingly for this year, however, is the inclusion of Hasselblad camera tuning which results in more accurate and natural colors. It goes quite well with the 48-megapixel, 50-megapixel ultra-wide, and 3.3x telephoto cameras.

Samsung Galaxy S21 Ultra

The cream of the crop when it comes to Samsung’s 2021 phone lineup, very few handsets can rival its performance. Not only that, but it’s prettier than ever with the new color options, too.

Come for the Qualcomm Snapdragon 888 processor and the 12GB RAM, stay for the 5,000mAh battery and quad-core camera. Of course there’s plenty in between as well and it’s all in service of high-end prowess.

Everything runs smoothly but it looks even smoother when you’ve got a 6.8-inch Quad HD+ display that delivers to the tune of 120Hz refresh rate.

ASUS ROG Phone 5

A gamer’s delight, this is the sort of phone that you look for if refresh rates, touch sampling rates, and cooling fans are a concern. That’s to say they’re high on hardware and often feature extra touches designed specifically for mobile gaming.

Powered by Android 11, this one offers up a Qualcomm Snapdragon 888 processor with up to 16GB LPDDR5 RAM and 256GB UFS3.1 storage. We’re talking cream of the crop stuff.

The 6.78-inch screen has a 2448 x 1080 resolution and boasts incredibly high brightness (800 nits), touch sampling rate (144Hz), and HDR10+ certification. In other words, every game you throw at this one is gonna look great.

Other standout features include Gorilla Glass Victus, a triple camera array, multiple inputs for gaming controls, high-end audio, and a 6,000mAh battery to make sure your gaming lasts as long as you do.
