Cricket on Friday made a couple of significant changes to its prepaid plans, putting them closer in line with its competitors.
For starters, Cricket is adding 5G access to all of its plans at no additional cost. The prepaid carrier is part of AT&T’s prepaid portfolio and relies on its network for connectivity; a 5G-ready phone is required to take advantage of the speeds and capabilities.
Secondly, Cricket has removed the 8Mbps for its 4G LTE download speeds for its plans. This impacts the $30, 40, and $55 monthly rate plans.
The changes come as part of an announcement that Cricket has reached 12.4 million subscribers, having added more than two million customers over the last two years.
Cricket’s plan structure and pricing is remains unchanged, with prices starting at $30 per month for 2GB of data. On the high end,a $60 plan provides unlimited data and premium features such as mobile hotspot, cloud storage, and HBO Max.
Cricket Wireless offers multi-line discounts which can bring down the cost of select plans to as little as $25 per line, per month.

These days we carry a lot of gadgets on us. Between our phones, smartphones, laptops, tablets, and more it can be difficult to keep everything charged up going place to place.
While most power banks will do the trick for your mobile gadgets, they aren’t powerful enough to charge your laptop. That’s where the supercharged Intelli ScoutPro comes into play with up to 240W of power output in a compact body.
Key features:
240W of combined power output
24,000mAh capacity
2 USB Type-C and 1 USB Type-A ports
Wireless charging for phones and Apple Watch
Magnetic charging compatible with iPhones
Charge up to 5 devices at once
Capable of pass-through charging
Design
The Intelli ScoutPro is a chonky portable charger with a premium aluminum body measuring 6.2 x 3.3 x 1.18 inches and weighing in at 1.2 pounds. At this size and weight, the ScoutPro is portable but certainly not pocketable.
Fortunately, the ScoutPro includes a handy carrying case in the box complete with several pouches and storage space for cables and power bricks. The only downside is that the case doesn’t include a strap to hold the ScoutPro in place causing it to rattle around loosely.
The ScoutPro houses a variety of ports, including two USB Type-C ports, one USB Type-A port, and two wireless charging pads on the top with a leather-like nonslip surface.
While the wireless charging pad is compatible with most devices that support wireless charging, it also features magnets making it work with iPhones that feature MagSafe technology. Additionally, the second wireless charging pad is a dedicated charger for the Apple Watch.
Besides the ports, the ScoutPro also sports a display to keep you informed of the battery level as well as which output is being used. Next to the display is a power button used to activate wireless charging or to check the charge level at any time.
User experience
The Intelli ScoutPro operates like most any other wireless charger or power bank for a mostly plug-and-play experience. The only time it ever required any extra steps from me was when I needed to press the power button to activate wireless charging after placing my phone on the charging pad.
While we’re on the subject of wireless charging, it was a bit of a mixed bag for me. The ScoutPro worked perfectly with my Samsung Galaxy S20 FE, but not with the iPhone XR or my pairs of wireless headphones.
In the case of the iPhone XR and wireless headphones, the ScoutPro would charge them wirelessly for about a minute and then power off. I tried repositioning them over a dozen times thinking the devices weren’t lined up properly, but, in the end, it made no difference.
For that reason, I’d be cautious about relying solely on the wireless charging capabilities of the ScoutPro, but I found the wired charging to work flawlessly with all of my devices.
I especially enjoyed using the ScoutPro to charge my Dell XPS laptop, where it was able to fill up about half of the 84 Wh battery while actively using it.
Final thoughts
Two of the ScoutPro’s biggest advantages are the variety of ways it allows you to charge devices and its high power output. This gives it the ability to charge every device in your arsenal and makes the Intelli ScoutPro one of the most capable portable chargers on the market.
At the same time, the ScoutPro is big, heavy, and the 24,000mAh capacity doesn’t go far once you start charging a laptop. Plus, the flakey wireless charging doesn’t help either.
If you’re looking for a power bank to charge your phone, smartwatch, or tablet then there are more portable and affordable options on the market. However, if you need something to charge up any and every mobile device you have, including your laptop, then the ScoutPro does a fantastic job.
After recently completing a successful Kickstarter campaign, the Intelli ScoutPro can now be ordered indemand from Indiegogo for $179 which is 48% off of its suggested $349 retail price.
Google this week announced that an Android 12 update is coming to the mobile platform, targeting tablets, foldables, and large-screen devices, including those that run ChromeOS. Dubbed Android 12L, it is expected to arrive in early 2022 on a number of tablets and foldable devices.
Given the growing push into foldables and devices with two screens, it makes sense for Google to address things head on. It also makes sense that it would ready its own software platform if and when the rumors of a Google foldable phone ever bear fruit.
Android 12L optimizes the layout of a device’s UI, tweaking the settings and placement for things such as the lock screen, notification shade and Quick Settings, and more.
Those devices which can leverage the 12L features will see a two-column layout, splitting some settings to the left and moving notifications to the right.
Android 12L also ushers in a new taskbar to make it easier to toggle between different apps. Users can drag and drop an app from the taskbar to open it in split-screen mode; Google enables this for all apps, whether resizable or not.
Another design change to look for in 12L is improved letterboxing. Google will let OEMs adjust shape, size, and color of letterboxing, and give them control over position of inset windows and the ability to round corners. While that may be music to a developer’s ear, it might not make sense to a casual reader. To that we say, look forward to a more visually appealing interface.
Android 12L is slated to release early 2022 with the next generation of devices, but the features can be tested and played with on the Android developer website. Google is actively working with OEM partners on the 12L update; a developer preview of 12L for the Lenovo P12 Pro tablet is on the horizon.
TCL on Thursday announced a pair of affordable smartphones for the US market, tapping them for a variety of carriers. One of the models, the TCL 20XE, goes on sale immediately while the other, the TCL 20A 5G, arrives in the coming weeks.
Both of the phones are priced under $200 with one of them being a 4G handset, and listed as low as $120.
Here are the key features for the two phones.
TCL 2A 5G
As the model name hints, this is a 5G phone with a generously sized 6.52-inch display with HD+ resolution. It’s powered by Android 11 and comes with a 16-megapixel main camera, 5-megapixel wide camera, and 2-megapixel macro camera.
Under the hood you’ll find a Qualcomm Snapdragon 480 processor with 4GB RAM and 64GB expandable storage. A 4,500mAh battery, which supports 18-watt fast charging, should be sufficient enough to last a day or more for most users.
Other specifications include a fingerprint reader, dedicated Google Assistant button, 13-megapixel front camera, 3.5mm headphone jack, USB Type-C, dual-band Wi-Fi, and Bluetooth 5.1.
The TCL 20A 5G is expected to arrive at Visible in November as part of an exclusive for the wireless carrier. It will be offered in matte grey.
TCL 20 XE
The TCL 20 XE has many of the same features of the aforementioned model, including the 6.52-inch display, fingerprint reader, headphone jack, and dual-band Wi-Fi.
Also powered by Android 11, this one dials things down a smidge by going with a MediaTek Helio P22 processor with 3GB RAM and 32GB expandable storage.
The camera experience features a 13-megapixel and 2-megapixel macro/depth shooter combo with a 5-megapixel front-facing camera. And while this one doesn’t have 5G support, it does come with a 5,000mAh battery.
The TCL 20 XE comes to Metro by T-Mobile on October 29 for $159.99 and it will also land at Boost Mobile in the near future where it will be priced $119.99.

It’s safe to say that the car manufacturing industry has changed drastically in the last few decades. The main reason for this is the advancement in technology. The latest development in this industry is the appearance of, so-called smart cars and vehicles that use the Internet of Things technology or the IoT for short. How exactly did this new technology change the car manufacturing industry and what are the benefits that it brings to the table?
Let’s find out together.
How Does IoT In Cars Work?
Well, this is a little bit of a loaded question, but, fortunately, there is a simple answer that will paint you a picture of how this technology works. The car manufacturers integrate certain sensors in the cars and via those sensors, cars can communicate with each other and interact with the smart signs and roads. This is all made possible by the shared network all of the cars, signs, and roads use.
The Main Benefits Of IoT In Car Manufacturing
As you can probably assume, there are a lot of benefits this new technology can bring. Here are some of them.
It Can Reduce Traffic Congestion
One of the main issues professional drivers are dealing with on the road today is, of course, being stuck in a traffic jam for hours. Sure, it’s extremely annoying, but it can also harm the business by delaying the deliveries. This is exactly why a lot of manufacturers and companies that deal with logistics on a daily basis are trying their best to implement IoT technology into their vehicles.
The Internet of Things technology can gather the necessary information and warn the driver which roads are going to be jammed. This allows the employees to change their routes and find a more optimal path. This can save a company a lot of time and money.
It Allows Fleet Monitoring
Fleet monitoring allows the employees to keep an eye on the drivers in real-time. This provides them with the opportunity to calculate the best routes, monitor the driving style of a driver, and predict maintenance. It’s safe to say that fleet monitoring makes the driver’s job a lot easier and safer. Also, the information about the employee’s style of driving can be important for insurance purposes in case of an accident. This is one of the ways a company can protect itself and its drivers in case of a wrongful lawsuit.
It Connects The Vehicles
The presence of sensors in vehicles allows them to be connected to each other while on the road. Why is this important? Well, it can prevent road accidents. For example, if a car has been involved in an accident, it will notify the other car of the situation in time, thus allowing the driver to slow down the car and avoid the accident. This kind of communication can save a lot of lives and prevent damage to company vehicles. To put it plainly, it makes drivers much safer on the road and that’s the main reason why manufacturers and companies are trying their best to implement IoT into their vehicles.
It Monitors The Driver’s Health
Since we are talking about safety, it’s important to state that one of the main causes of road accidents is fatigue. This is especially true when it comes to those long rides. The good news is that the IoT technology has what it takes to prevent the accidents caused by exhausted drivers. How does it do this exactly?
Well, some of the companies are putting the so-called active wellness seats that have special sensors that monitor the driver’s heart rate and breathing rhythm. This way, even if the driver doesn’t notice that they are exhausted, the car will notify them that it is time to take a break and get some rest. It’s safe to say that this feature will save a lot of lives in the future and it’s no wonder the manufacturers are sparing no expenses to implement it into their vehicles.
The IoT technology has brought a lot of good things to the car manufacturing industry, but the most notable thing is the improved safety of drivers.
When it comes to smartphone designs, there are only so many ways one can design a handset. Sure, you can dress it up in shiny, premium looking materials or add unique and eye-catching colors, but at the end of the day, it’s not too unlike a generic black slab.
As 2021 comes to a close we find that some phone makers have changed things up a bit, opting to go away from the typical rectangle experience. Folding handsets are becoming more commonplace, largely thanks to Samsung and to a lesser degree, Motorola.
Despite the fact that phones are thinner than ever, they don’t quite feel as compact as when you fold that clamshell and put it in your pocket or purse.
While pretty much every phone you see nowadays has either Android or iOS on it, there are still people who buy feature phones. Similarly, there is a fairly sizable group of users who just don’t need “all the bells and whistles” that come with smartphones.
Then there is the segment of user who needs a device which physically handles a rough and tumble lifestyle. Maybe they’re in construction or physical labor, visiting job sites and dealing with all kinds of weather and elements. Or, perhaps they find themselves climbing poles or digging holes on a regular basis.
CAT S22 Flip
For that type of user there are a handful of smartphones on the market that provide that rugged protection and added durability. One of the biggest names in that right now space is CAT Phones. Having offered up more than a few generations of rugged handsets, its latest, the S22 Flip, is a bit of a departure.
The CAT S22 Flip is, in short, a flip phone that’s built to withstand all the drops, water, dust, bumps, and bruises that comes with a particular lifestyle. It also happens to run Android. Well, to be fair, it’s Android 11 Go.
Historically, when we think of Android Go, we picture low-end hardware with the most basic of specifications. That, and perhaps emerging markets or places where smartphones might provide the first taste of internet to users. While that wide brush pretty much paints the picture, there are other use cases for the platform.
The CAT S22 Flip, while a rather niche device, sits somewhere in the center of a Venn diagram that has circles of “rugged”, “smart”, and “basic needs”. And aside from its durability and tough design the phones doesn’t make any sort of promises in terms of capabilities.
This phone is built for customers who need a reliable device to keep them in contact and to be used by businesses that want to give their employees an affordable phone to keep them reachable while at work.
CAT Phones
Typically when reviewing smartphones we’ll dive into the specifications and call attention to design choices and performance. How does it look and feel? How does it handle day-to-day activities? Often we’ll also compare the experience to other devices in the same price point. The CAT S22 Flip is a different animal.
Priced just $234 through T-Mobile, the S22 Flip framed by its hardware prowess. Its 2GB memory, 16GB expandable storage, and 5-megapixel camera don’t sound all that flashy or capable but we’re not dealing with a standard Android phone. Instead, much of what CAT leans into is the rugged features and other design choices. And that’s where it really shines.
Design and Features
The CAT S22 Flip is drop tested for up to six feet onto steel with multiple drops on all sides and corners. Moreover, it’s fully waterproof and can be scrubbed clean with soap and disinfectants. It’s IP68 rated against sand, dust, and dirt and it can withstand extreme temperatures, vibration, and tumbles.
Diving deeper, the phone can also take on wipe downs with bleach and alcohol without batting an eye. In other words, it’s a hell of a lot tougher than you are.
Also noteworthy, the Cat S22 Flip comes with a two-year warranty and supports MDM (Mobile Device Management) and EMM (Enterprise Mobility Management). That last feature may not mean much to you but your IT guy loves it.
Software Experience
The Android 11 Go Edition software, while limited in overall capabilities, still provides a smarter experience than your typical feature phone. There are plenty of apps and titles available in the Play Store (yes, it has that), and it comes with Google Maps, Google Assistant, and Find My Device.
In fact, it’s surprising how many traditional apps come with the phone. We didn’t expect to see YouTube or Google Play Movies on here, but they were. Along
The screen measure 2.8-inches which doesn’t sound all that big but it’s plenty bright enough with a decent resolution, too. You’re not here to play games; you’re here to work. As such, it’s got Gorilla Glass 5 scratch and shatter resistant protection and even allows for wet finger and glove touches.
There is a dedicated button on the side for push-to-talk or whatever else you might want to program it to do. Maybe you want to access a calculator on the quick or perhaps you like a long-press to activate the camera.
Navigating the software and interacting with the phone is fairly intuitive. It takes but a few moments to understand that you can use both the directional pad and touch the screen itself to open apps, scroll, etc. It is a little aggravating and cumbersome to type out messages or enter websites, but there’s always voice-to-text, too.
The Go Edition version of apps are lightweight and familiar enough that you can use them without having to relearn anything. And as for the other titles, well, they work but you may feel a little constrained at first.
Conclusion
Although the CAT S22 Flip has a limited target demographic, we can see this one doing really well for its users. It’s the right blend of smarts and capabilities in a form factor that’s very portable and built to take a beating.
Interaction might take a little bit of time before you feel like you can mindlessly use it and zip around, but it’s a worker’s phone through and through. That’s to say, it might only come out a few times per day for taking pictures of job sites, calling the boss, or checking messages. To that end, there’s no learning curve to worry about.
The 2000mAh battery sounds small but it is more than sufficient to get through a day’s worth of work and then some. Charge this one up on your way to work or on the way home and you won’t need to worry.
If your job requires that you get down and dirty or in situations where dust, dirt, and debris might be a concern, the last thing you want to do is pull out a fancy $1,000 flagship phone. Similarly, if you’re the head of fleet of workers who are prone to being rough on their equipment, you don’t want to invest a ton in their handsets. At $234, the CAT S22 Flip is the sort of device that that fills a small void but does it very well.
You can learn more about the phone at CAT’s website but to purchase it you will have to head to T-Mobile’s website. Qualified customers can purchase one for just $9.75 per month over two years.
