Upkept review: A smarter way to keep up on your household

0

Any homeowner will tell you that maintaining that household is probably one of the more time-consuming elements of their lives. From changing HVAC air filters to draining your hot water heater, there really is no ship like ownership. Upkept is a new app that hopes to help you keep those items that need love in the forefront.

What is it?

Upkept is a mobile-first app from Consumer Reports. Yes, the age-old non-profit for home products reviews and reporting now has a mobile app. The idea is that Upkept uses the historical data of it’s 80+ year existence to help you easily maintain and manage at-home tasks.

This includes things like general maintenance of items like your fridge, oven, or heating systems. It can also help offer utilities and how-to tutorials on both maintenances as well as DIY projects like flooring, electrical, or plumbing.

How does it work?

The hardest part of home upkeep is simply remembering. Upkept allows you to add tasks to the app and it helps manage that muscle memory for you. From weekly tasks like taking out the trash or longer tasks like quarterly air filters, Upkept makes it simple.

You select a task or appliance from the UI and Upkept takes over. If a DIY task, it will walk you through tutorials on how to accomplish your goal. You will get step-by-step guidance via the app with estimated time to completion and tools you may need.

For instance, I selected the refrigerator as my first addition to Upkept. It then asked a few questions about make and model. You will then get a list of maintenance checklists you may want to complete. Our example listed one Important task and one Extra Credit option.

My Important task on Upkept was to clean the condenser coil in the back of the fridge. The app told me this was a basic task with just a brush or cordless vacuum to complete. It also warns that depending on if your unit is on rollers, you may need a partner to move the fridge away from the wall.

Gets the job done

Our task was now ready to complete. The Upkept app is well laid out with detailed and numbered lines to accomplish our maintenance options. In our fridge example, the app listed finding the coils as our first itinerary. This is followed by common places to find said coils.

Second, we are reminded that safety is never an option to be ignored. Step two was to make sure the appliance is unplugged. This is a quick task according to Upkept of under 20 minutes, so I unplugged my refrigerator.

Our last step is pretty self-explanatory. Clean the coils with a brush. Once we did this and checked the box, you get the option to mark the Upkept task complete. You also get a nice tip that Consumer Report’s data shows that a condenser-coil brush can be the best tool for the job and the estimated cost to own one is around $10 in the United States.

Create shopping lists with Goals

Upkept is great for knocking out tasks around the house, but it can also be used to build a shopping list for that next project as well. You can create Goals in the app that are essentially a wish list of items you may need to create a more efficient home environment.

Whether it’s adding a garbage disposal to cut out the waste in the kitchen, or cleaning supplies, you can easily do that from the Upkept app. You can even add new projects like Gutter cleanings and it will try to auto-populate a shopping list for you.

Give your home the Upkept boost

I’ve been thoroughly surprised by the value of the Upkept app. While it’s not revolutionary by any means, it does make a compelling argument to live on the phones of folks that stay active in home maintenance. If you’ve ever used sites like Instructables, then Upkept is a great mobile alternative to have in your tool bag.

The app is available via the Google Play Store. The service is free of charge for three months and then has a monthly subscription of $5. If you are an avid DIY or home handyman, I think it’s well worth giving Upketp a shot.

The Best Heroes Of Mobile Legends: Bang Bang!

1

A brief introduction

Mobile Legends: Bang Bang, also known as MLBB, is a 5vs5 multiplayer online battle arena game designed for IOS and Android devices. It was published by the Chinese company “Moonton” in 2016. The game features “5 versus 5” team-based battles where the main objective is to destroy the other team’s base successfully. The game provides a lot of customizability to the user by offering different characters to play as also known as “heroes” and each hero has its unique attributes and skill set. All of the heroes are available for purchase by the use of in-game currency “diamonds”, which are only obtainable via in-app purchases or battle points, or BP.

The game basics

Using your team of five heroes pitted against an enemy team of five, the game gives the main objective to destroy the opposing team’s base, to secure the victory, while also defending their base from ambushes and flanks. There are three lanes on the playing field; top, middle, and bottom lanes, all of them having 6 turrets, 3 of one team, and 3 of the other.

Minions, creeps, and monsters

Weak, computer-controlled minions spawn from the base every 30 seconds to every lane to attack other minions, heroes, and turrets. There are different types of creeps or monsters on the map available for “junglers” to farm. Junglers are the heroes who farm creeps to get a boost or advantage in level so that they can help their team advance and potentially secure the win. The strongest of these creeps are the Turtle and the Lord. The turtle is the 2nd strongest creep and has high HP (Health Points) and damage. Whoever kills the turtle, their team gains a good amount of gold and experience, and the player who slays the turtle will get a buff that enhances their attributes. The Lord on the other hand is the strongest creep with the highest HP and damage when compared to other creeps. The team that kills the Lord also gets a good amount of gold and experience. The Lord also fights for the team that killed him and attacks the lane that is the weakest packing huge amounts of damage to the opposing towers. The turtle spawns at 2:00 minutes in-game time while the lord spawns at 9:00 minutes in-game time.

The Heroes

Now that we have gone through all that, let’s have a look at the most important element of the game – the heroes. There are 107 heroes as of August 2021 with the newest addition being Natan (The Space-Time walker). There are a total of 6 hero classes from which the player can choose, which are Assassin, Fighter, Marksman, Mage, Tank, and Support.

From all the 107 heroes, today we will cherry-pick the best to inform you of the top 10 strongest heroes to play as in mobile legends which can assure you a juicy victory:

10. Natalia:

Natalia is a high damage assassin class hero. She is an expert stalker as she remains in bushes waiting for the right time to strike, fulfilling the definition of an assassin. She can easily hunt down squishy heroes or carry out an ambush because of her extremely high DPS (damage per second) and stealthy character. Natalia is a difficult hero to master because of her controls but she can easily dominate the game when you get the hang of her.

9. Grock:

Grock is a high HP (Health Points) and a crowd control tank class hero. Grock can easily handle a lot of heroes pushing at the same time with his guardian’s barrier skill, which creates a wall making it easy to separate the enemy team and pinpoint the weaker ones. While being a tank, Grock has high offensive abilities which not many tank class heroes can do while tanking a lot of damage.

8. Aldous:

Aldous is a high damage fighter class hero. He specializes at pushes his enemies with his ultimate move. His first skill can become deadly later in the game because of his passive ability, which allows him to stack damage on his first skill. Aldous can easily locate enemy heroes and lock on them with his third skill and if paired up with his first skill, he can instantaneously end the opponent. Aldous can be hard to master but if used properly, he can easily turn the tables in a losing situation.

7. Zilong:

Zilong is a high mobility and damage assassin/fighter. Zilong is one of the few heroes that is provided at the beginning of the game to the player free of cost and ready to play as. His attacks are extremely powerful and he can easily kill squishy heroes and tanks alike. He is not that difficult to master which makes the new player have a good experience when playing with him.

6. Gusion:

Gusion is an assassin class hero with extremely good mobility and damage output. Gusion can easily take down enemies by combining the use of his skills because his ultimate allows his skills to recharge automatically from which he can tear the enemy apart.

5. Johnson:

Johnson is high mobility and high HP tank class hero. While being a tank he may look boring to play but on the contrary, he is very fun to play because with his ultimate move you can transform into a car and take another one of your teammates with you on a ride. He has high tanking abilities and many hero combinations have been made with him from whom the most popular one is Odette (Mage class hero) and Johnson. Whenever Johnson’s car hits any hero or wall, the car blows up and stuns nearby heroes, while also slowing their movement speed in a particular radius.

4. Hanzo:

Hanzo is extremely high damage but low HP assassin class hero. Hanzo is a jungler who jungles or kills creeps to get buffs and advantages in the later parts of the game. Hanzo can transform into a demon with his ultimate and he can go through any structure when in his ultimate move. His ultimate move runs on “demon blood” which Hanzo obtains through killing creeps or damaging opponents with his second skill. Hanzo’s real body becomes extremely vulnerable when in his demon form which creates all sorts of problems for the person playing it. Hanzo is a difficult hero to master but is extremely good when mastered.

3. Granger:

Granger is very high damage and mobility marksman class hero. Granger is also a jungler hero like Hanzo. Granger has extremely high damage output when played properly and because of this, the hero has been balanced but he still makes it into our list. Granger’s first skill is extremely powerful and it alone can decimate enemy heroes if played properly. Many people call granger the best hero to use while solo queuing ranked lobbies because of his high stats.

2. Sun:

Sun is a fighter class hero with pretty good balanced stats. It’s, however, not his stats that make him overpowered, it’s his skills that allow him to make doppelgangers of himself that acquire some of his stats. His ultimate allows him to make a doppelganger of himself which has 70% of his attributes. This creates confusion in the enemy as to which one is the real one. His doppelgangers heal him whenever they attack anything. Sun is extremely good at taking more than one hero at once or taking down the lord or turtle by himself.

1. Alucard:

Alucard is an extremely powerful assassin class hero because of his immense damage and high life steal. He is a jungler hero like Hanzo and granger and is extremely good if you know how to play him. His life steal is incredible at all stages of the game and he can easily chase after running enemies. His damage output is unreal too, and when matched with his life steal, he can easily handle fights where he is outnumbered. Alucard is a difficult hero to master but is extremely rewarding when you know how to play him.

The conclusion

This was our pick of the best heroes that “Mobile Legends: Bang Bang!” has to offer. If you feel that your rank is lacking and you wish to catch up then look no further because we have the perfect solution for you. Here at Eldorado.gg you can get Mobile Legends boosting that will take your account to the next level. You can even get in-game goods for other popular games like the new Amazon’’ game that has New World Coins or even the good old OSRS Gold that everyone needs to become better in the game.

Cricket adds 5G to all plans, drops speed caps on data

0

Cricket on Friday made a couple of significant changes to its prepaid plans, putting them closer in line with its competitors.

For starters, Cricket is adding 5G access to all of its plans at no additional cost. The prepaid carrier is part of AT&T’s prepaid portfolio and relies on its network for connectivity; a 5G-ready phone is required to take advantage of the speeds and capabilities.

Secondly, Cricket has removed the 8Mbps for its 4G LTE download speeds for its plans. This impacts the $30, 40, and $55 monthly rate plans.

The changes come as part of an announcement that Cricket has reached 12.4 million subscribers, having added more than two million customers over the last two years.

Cricket’s plan structure and pricing is remains unchanged, with prices starting at $30 per month for 2GB of data. On the high end,a $60 plan provides unlimited data and premium features such as mobile hotspot, cloud storage, and HBO Max.

Cricket Wireless offers multi-line discounts which can bring down the cost of select plans to as little as $25 per line, per month.

Intelli ScoutPro 240 Watt Power Bank review

These days we carry a lot of gadgets on us. Between our phones, smartphones, laptops, tablets, and more it can be difficult to keep everything charged up going place to place.

While most power banks will do the trick for your mobile gadgets, they aren’t powerful enough to charge your laptop. That’s where the supercharged Intelli ScoutPro comes into play with up to 240W of power output in a compact body.

Key features:

  • 240W of combined power output
  • 24,000mAh capacity
  • 2 USB Type-C and 1 USB Type-A ports
  • Wireless charging for phones and Apple Watch
  • Magnetic charging compatible with iPhones
  • Charge up to 5 devices at once
  • Capable of pass-through charging

Design

The Intelli ScoutPro is a chonky portable charger with a premium aluminum body measuring 6.2 x 3.3 x 1.18 inches and weighing in at 1.2 pounds. At this size and weight, the ScoutPro is portable but certainly not pocketable.

Fortunately, the ScoutPro includes a handy carrying case in the box complete with several pouches and storage space for cables and power bricks. The only downside is that the case doesn’t include a strap to hold the ScoutPro in place causing it to rattle around loosely.

The ScoutPro houses a variety of ports, including two USB Type-C ports, one USB Type-A port, and two wireless charging pads on the top with a leather-like nonslip surface.

While the wireless charging pad is compatible with most devices that support wireless charging, it also features magnets making it work with iPhones that feature MagSafe technology. Additionally, the second wireless charging pad is a dedicated charger for the Apple Watch.

Besides the ports, the ScoutPro also sports a display to keep you informed of the battery level as well as which output is being used. Next to the display is a power button used to activate wireless charging or to check the charge level at any time.

User experience

The Intelli ScoutPro operates like most any other wireless charger or power bank for a mostly plug-and-play experience. The only time it ever required any extra steps from me was when I needed to press the power button to activate wireless charging after placing my phone on the charging pad.

While we’re on the subject of wireless charging, it was a bit of a mixed bag for me. The ScoutPro worked perfectly with my Samsung Galaxy S20 FE, but not with the iPhone XR or my pairs of wireless headphones.

In the case of the iPhone XR and wireless headphones, the ScoutPro would charge them wirelessly for about a minute and then power off. I tried repositioning them over a dozen times thinking the devices weren’t lined up properly, but, in the end, it made no difference.

For that reason, I’d be cautious about relying solely on the wireless charging capabilities of the ScoutPro, but I found the wired charging to work flawlessly with all of my devices.

I especially enjoyed using the ScoutPro to charge my Dell XPS laptop, where it was able to fill up about half of the 84 Wh battery while actively using it.

Final thoughts

Two of the ScoutPro’s biggest advantages are the variety of ways it allows you to charge devices and its high power output. This gives it the ability to charge every device in your arsenal and makes the Intelli ScoutPro one of the most capable portable chargers on the market.

At the same time, the ScoutPro is big, heavy, and the 24,000mAh capacity doesn’t go far once you start charging a laptop. Plus, the flakey wireless charging doesn’t help either.

If you’re looking for a power bank to charge your phone, smartwatch, or tablet then there are more portable and affordable options on the market. However, if you need something to charge up any and every mobile device you have, including your laptop, then the ScoutPro does a fantastic job.

After recently completing a successful Kickstarter campaign, the Intelli ScoutPro can now be ordered indemand from Indiegogo for $179 which is 48% off of its suggested $349 retail price.

Android 12 gets an update for large screens and foldables

0

Google this week announced that an Android 12 update is coming to the mobile platform, targeting tablets, foldables, and large-screen devices, including those that run ChromeOS. Dubbed Android 12L, it is expected to arrive in early 2022 on a number of tablets and foldable devices.

Given the growing push into foldables and devices with two screens, it makes sense for Google to address things head on. It also makes sense that it would ready its own software platform if and when the rumors of a Google foldable phone ever bear fruit.

Android 12L optimizes the layout of a device’s UI, tweaking the settings and placement for things such as the lock screen, notification shade and Quick Settings, and more.

Those devices which can leverage the 12L features will see a two-column layout, splitting some settings to the left and moving notifications to the right.

Android 12L also ushers in a new taskbar to make it easier to toggle between different apps. Users can drag and drop an app from the taskbar to open it in split-screen mode; Google enables this for all apps, whether resizable or not.

Another design change to look for in 12L is improved letterboxing. Google will let OEMs adjust shape, size, and color of letterboxing, and give them control over position of inset windows and the ability to round corners. While that may be music to a developer’s ear, it might not make sense to a casual reader. To that we say, look forward to a more visually appealing interface.

Android 12L is slated to release early 2022 with the next generation of devices, but the features can be tested and played with on the Android developer website. Google is actively working with OEM partners on the 12L update; a developer preview of 12L for the Lenovo P12 Pro tablet is on the horizon.

TCL debuts a pair of affordable phones for various carriers

0

TCL on Thursday announced a pair of affordable smartphones for the US market, tapping them for a variety of carriers. One of the models, the TCL 20XE, goes on sale immediately while the other, the TCL 20A 5G, arrives in the coming weeks.

Both of the phones are priced under $200 with one of them being a 4G handset, and listed as low as $120.

Here are the key features for the two phones.

TCL 2A 5G

As the model name hints, this is a 5G phone with a generously sized 6.52-inch display with HD+ resolution. It’s powered by Android 11 and comes with a 16-megapixel main camera, 5-megapixel wide camera, and 2-megapixel macro camera.

Under the hood you’ll find a Qualcomm Snapdragon 480 processor with 4GB RAM and 64GB expandable storage. A 4,500mAh battery, which supports 18-watt fast charging, should be sufficient enough to last a day or more for most users.

Other specifications include a fingerprint reader, dedicated Google Assistant button, 13-megapixel front camera, 3.5mm headphone jack, USB Type-C, dual-band Wi-Fi, and Bluetooth 5.1.

The TCL 20A 5G is expected to arrive at Visible in November as part of an exclusive for the wireless carrier. It will be offered in matte grey.

TCL 20 XE

The TCL 20 XE has many of the same features of the aforementioned model, including the 6.52-inch display, fingerprint reader, headphone jack, and dual-band Wi-Fi.

Also powered by Android 11, this one dials things down a smidge by going with a MediaTek Helio P22 processor with 3GB RAM and 32GB expandable storage.

The camera experience features a 13-megapixel and 2-megapixel macro/depth shooter combo with a 5-megapixel front-facing camera. And while this one doesn’t have 5G support, it does come with a 5,000mAh battery.

The TCL 20 XE comes to Metro by T-Mobile on October 29 for $159.99 and it will also land at Boost Mobile in the near future where it will be priced $119.99.

EDIT: Price clarification for Metro and Boost
