Motorola unveils the $200 Moto G Power

0

It’s the end of 2021 and while we are just starting to see rumors of phones like the OnePlus 10 and the Samsung Galaxy S22, others are starting to announce their 2022 phones a little early. Today, Motorola announced its new 2022 Moto G Power.

All about the power

Battery power that is. Motorola included a long-lasting 5000mAh battery. They claim it will keep the device running for up to three days on a single charge. Motorola included a 10W rapid charger to charge up the Moto G Power.

According to Motorola, with the Moto G Power, you can play music for 110 hours, watch 18 hours of video, and scroll around on social media for up to 17 hours.

The rest of the Moto G Power

The Moto G Power sports a 6.5-inch HD+ display with a 90Hz refresh rate. Going into 2022, a resolution of 1600 x 720 is nothing to write home about. It will be interesting to see how a 90Hz refresh rate looks on that low of a resolution.

It runs on a MediaTek Helio G37 with 4GB of RAM. It has 64GB or 128GB of built-in storage that can be expanded up to an additional 512GB using a MicroSD card.

It includes an 8MP front-facing camera capable of face unlock and a triple camera around the back. It has a 50MP main camera with a 2MP macro camera and a 2MP depth camera.

This Android 11 device also has a rear-mounted fingerprint reader and a headphone jack.

The device will be available at Republic Wireless and Metro by T-Mobile soon. It will be released for Verizon, Boost Mobile, Xfinity Mobile, AT&T, Cricket, US Cellular, and Google Fi sometime in the future. The Motorola Moto G Power has an MSRP of $199.99.

Wireless medical alert systems for seniors

0

Wireless medical alert systems are products offering peace of mind to aging adults. They help to give them freedom to live safely and independently. Medical alert devices are not new. They have been available for decades in traditional landline versions that consist of a base station connected to a phone line.

The base station dials up to three pre-programmed telephone numbers once the alarm is activated. Activation happens when someone presses the help button on the wristband or necklace pendant. Sometimes, activation is automatic in case of a fall.

A medical alert system is different from other personal emergency response systems (PERS) like Life Alert. This is so because designers do it specifically for seniors rather than all adults. Wireless medical alerts do not depend on landline telephone service. They use wireless connectivity to connect the central station with the pendant or wristband worn by the user.

Choosing a medical alert system

Medical alert systems for seniors are becoming more available in the marketplace. However, the choices can be overwhelming if you do not know what to look for when comparing different products.

Here is important information for guidance:

  • These systems must have a base station with a voice-dial feature that allows you to call your family members directly. This way you will feel more confident that someone is going to stay on the line with your loved one until help arrives.
  • It should also provide wellness check-ins, weather alerts and more. Therefore, these are important aspects to look into.

Compare the costs before settling for your medical alert system and go for the most affordable option. Take advantage of promos and price waivers to save on your system.

  • Beware of free subscriptions and know when billing starts. There is a new, growing concern where many people subscribe for “free” services, but then they start getting bills for the system.

The majority of these products use an existing telephone line or cellular network to make calls. Therefore, there will not be an additional expense to the user.

Caution when using medical alert systems for seniors!

Despite the help that comes with medical alert devices, you should always exercise caution when using them. Here are scenarios that should make you think more about how best to use these systems for your seniors:

  • If they have fallen, it could take them longer than the 30-second response time to connect with the system. The person can press their help button until their 100th birthday. However, if incapacitation happens occurs after a fall, it might be difficult or impossible for them to make the call.
  • When people cannot go outside to get help by themselves, it might be a problem they are feeling ill or have fallen in their garden.
  • While indoor, no-worry zones are available with the system. Therefore, all it takes is one time stepping out of the zone for things to get dangerous quickly.
  • As people get older and stop driving, they will no longer be able to go out for groceries or other errands on their own.
  • It is good for children to check in with their parents from time to time just to make sure that they are doing okay. Even if the parent insists that everything is fine, it is important to check-in and make sure that they are not becoming housebound.
  • When aging adults pose a danger to themselves or others, it is time to consider other options.

Wireless medical alert systems for seniors and other medical alert devices can be used along with a cane, walker or wheelchair. This enables seniors to go about their normal activities without having to worry about whether or not help will be available in case of emergencies. Having a wireless device to call for help will give senior citizens the security they need to enjoy their retirement years.

Final Thoughts

Wireless medical alert systems for seniors offer the elderly a means of contact when they need help from professional caretakers. These alert systems for seniors help those who find themselves in a situation where they cannot reach their phone or any other communication device. In such cases, seniors will use wireless medical alerts to call for help. This happens by notifying the numbers that they provide after they activate the system.

Samsung Galaxy S22 design, price, rumors and specs begin to surface

0

There aren’t many devices as anticipated on a yearly basis as Samsung’s Galaxy series of phones. With 2022 quickly approaching we are starting to get our hands on the specs and design of the upcoming Galaxy S22 lineup.

Galaxy S22 Design

Design-wise the S22 and S22+ may be very similar to the Galaxy S21 series of devices, but slightly smaller. Potential color options that might be available are white, black, green, and rose gold.

The S22 is where the design gets exciting, especially if you are a Samsung Note fan. Rumors are pointing to a larger Ultra due to the inclusion of a built-in S-Pen! It may also feature a less rounded design, keeping in line with the Ultra being a Note replacement. Color options for the Ultra are black, white, green, and dark red.

The Galaxy S22 and the S22+ will continue to have the same glass-like plastic back as the S21 devices, while the S22 Ultra will have a glass back.

Galaxy S22 Specs

The Display and Battery

Leaker Tron (@FrontTron) is expecting the displays for the Samsung Galaxy S22, Galaxy S22+, and the Galaxy S22 Ultra to be 6.06 inches, 6.55 inches, and 6.81 inches respectively. The S22 and S22+ will be FHD+ and the Ultra will sport a QHD+ display. All three displays will have a 120Hz refresh rate.

Tron also estimates battery capacity for the S22 to have a 3800mAh battery, the S22+ to have a 4600mAh battery, and the S22 Ultra to have a 5000mAh battery.

The Camera System

The Galaxy S22 and the S22+ are expected to have a triple camera rear setup with a 50MP main shooter, a 12MP ultra-wide, and a 12MP telephoto lens.

Twitter leaker Ice Universe (@UniverseIce) expects the S22 Ultra to have a quad-camera system with a 108MP lens, a 12MP ultra-wide, a 10MP telephoto lens with 10x optical zoom, and a 10MP telephoto lens with 3x optical zoom.

Performance

The entire S22 series of devices is expected to have a Qualcomm Snapdragon 898 chipset. Due to low yields, it is not yet clear if certain markets will get the new AMD and Samsung collaborated Exynos 2200 chipset.

RAM capacity should remain the same at 8GB for the S22 and the S22+. While the S22 Ultra will be getting 12GB of RAM. Samsung may debut their new LPDDR5X DRAM with the S22 series of devices. Compared to the previous generation of LPDDR5, Samsung promises up to a 1.3x speed increase while using 20% less power.

Galaxy S22 Price

The S22 series is expected to go up slightly in price. The S22 is set to cost $799, the S22+ will be $999 and the S22 Ultra will be $1199.

Offsetting the price increase a little is that rumors point to the S22+ and the Ultra as having a base of 256GB of storage.

The Galaxy S22 series is expected to launch sometime between January and March with most sources expecting a February launch.

We will continue to update this article as new information surfaces.

OnePlus 10 Pro design, price, rumors, and specs leak

0

OnePlus announced the OnePlus 9 and OnePlus 9 Pro in March of 2021. According to rumors, OnePlus is looking to move that date up for their next release. The OnePlus 10 and OnePlus 10 Pro might arrive in late January 2022 or early February 2022.

The Design

The well-known and reliable leaker, Steve Hemmerstoffer of @OnLeaks, in collaboration with Zouton has released a new round of renders, showing the OnePlus 10 Pro in much more detail.

The front of the device features slim bezels and a small hole punch at the top left corner for the front-facing camera.

Around the back, there is a Hasselblad triple camera setup with a very Samsung Galaxy S21 look. The expectation is that OnePlus dropped the monochrome camera sensor from the device this year. The OnePlus 10 Pro may have a periscope lens with a 5x optical zoom.

OnePlus 10 Device Specs

Additional information about the specs is starting to surface. 91mobiles has shared that both the OnePlus 10 and OnePlus 10 Pro should launch with Qualcomm’s upcoming Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 chipset. Both devices will have 8 – 12 GB of RAM.

The OnePlus 10 sports a 6.55-inch display, while the OnePlus 10 Pro is should have a 6.7-inch display. Rumors point to both displays having a 120Hz refresh rate.

Battery capacity seems to be up for debate at the moment. The OnePlus 10 is expected to have a 4500 mAh battery. Some rumors point to the OnePlus 10 Pro as having a 5000 mAh capacity but take that last bit with a grain of salt.

There is a possibility that these devices may have 125-Watt fast charging support.

The OnePlus 10 series of devices should be the first ones to have the new Oppo-OnePlus combined OS.

The OnePlus 10 series should be priced similarly to the OnePlus 9 series. For reference, the OnePlus 9 sold for $729 and the OnePlus 9 Pro sells for $1069.

We will continue to update this article as new information surfaces. Early 2022 is shaping up to be a fun one in the world of mobile phones.

Samsung releases Android 12 and One UI 4 to Galaxy S21 devices

0

Samsung announced the official release of its One UI 4 update. The Android 12 based software update will begin rolling out to Galaxy S21 series devices today. This includes the Galaxy S21, Galaxy S21+, and the Galaxy S21 Ultra.

One UI 4 introduces new color palettes which is Samsung’s take on Android 12’s Material You design update. This allows the operating system to extract the colors from your background. It then applies the colors to various elements throughout the phone. These elements include your home screen, menus, icons, buttons, and notifications.

One UI 4 introduces a variety of new emoji features, GIFs, and stickers to the Samsung keyboard app.

A major focus of Android 12, outside of the new Material You design language, is on privacy and security. A new privacy dashboard brings all your security and privacy controls to the same place.

One UI 4 Privacy Features

Your device will now let you know when an app is trying to access your camera or microphone with a green icon at the top of your screen. You can even add buttons to your quick settings menu to turn off access to the camera and the microphone.

Samsung indicated that the One UI 4 update will be coming at a later date to a wide range of previous Galaxy S, Note, Fold, Flip, A, and Tab devices.

If you are the proud owner of a Galaxy S21 device, go to Settings > Software Update > Download and Install to get the update.

It is rolling out now, so it may take a while to get to your device. If you have a carrier-locked Galaxy S21, you will have to wait for the carrier to make it available, which could take a while.
