Flowtime Biosensing Meditation Headband review

1

You are a busy person. I know this because I am, too, and so is nearly everybody else in our hustling and bustling society. Business isn’t a bad thing, but it certainly provides plenty of challenges to overcome.

One of the challenges we all face is finding time to relax and let go of the stresses of everyday life. Thankfully, this is not a new feat. Humans have been studying methods of relaxation for centuries and perhaps one of the oldest of these methods is meditation.

The concept of meditation, when compared to the technological advances of the modern world, may seem rather archaic. It would almost seem that, by definition, meditation must remain separated from technology. However, the gap between the most down-to-earth practice of humans and our current technological habits is bridged by the Flowtime Biosensing Meditation Headband.

The Flowtime Headband

The headband itself is very lightweight and made mostly of plastic. The thin, silver frame of the headband is worn across the forehead, and there are pieces on either side made to rest on your ears. These two pieces are connected in the back by a black piece of elastic rubber. Three sizes of this piece come with the headband so that it can fit people with different-sized heads. The silver frame which rests across the forehead has five different sensors.

Initially, I was worried that these sensors would need to be pressed uncomfortably against my forehead, but I found that the Flowtime headband sat very comfortably on my head using the medium-sized rubber band. The headband is also light enough that I was able to forget I was wearing it while meditating.

The Flowtime headband comes with a white charging cable that plugs into a USB port. The opposite end of the charger appears to me to be unique to this device and attaches to the end of the headband by the ear.

Also included in the box for the headband are a quick start guide and a gift card for a three-month membership to the full version of the Flowtime app, which is free to download for both Apple and Android.

How It Works

The headband works using the five sensors contacting the user’s forehead. These sensors gather data about the user’s heart rate, breathing patterns, and five specific brain waves. To gather data, the headband must be connected via Bluetooth to a device that is running the Flowtime app. The app will analyze the data during the meditation session, and the results can be viewed in the app or exported as a CSV file.

Flowtime App

The Flowtime App was my favorite part of my experience using the Flowtime headband. Having never meditated so intently before, I was worried that I would be slightly in over my head looking at the data in the app. As it turns out, it was very helpful.

Upon creating a Flowtime account, the Flowtime app asks personal questions such as “Why do you meditate?” and “Have you ever meditated before?” to personalize the guided meditations that it suggests to you. The guided meditations are also divided into categories such as “Anxiety”, “Sleep”, and “Beginner” on the home page of the app.

The free three-month membership that comes with the Flowtime headband was nice to have, as it gives the user access to all the meditations in the app. However, the app also has a section for free meditations that cycle over time. There were enough meditations in that section that I believe I would certainly be comfortable using the Flowtime app without the unlimited access membership if that’s what I desired.

It’s also important to note that the Flowtime app supports the ability to use the headband even while meditating with other apps, a feature that I thought was very cool.

I enjoyed using the meditations in the Flowtime app. After a guided meditation, the Flowtime app shows a page with all the data from the meditation. This data includes Breathing Coherence, Brainwave Rhythms, HRV, Pressure, Attention, and Relaxation.

When I saw this, I didn’t know what any of it meant; however, through the app, I was able to read a little bit about what each of these statistics meant, what an ideal meditation trend for each statistic looks like, and how to try to control these things during a meditation.

For further understanding, I was able to click on links in the app that would take me to websites that would explain in further detail what each of these statistics is and why it’s significant to your meditation. I found this especially useful as a novice meditator because it allowed me to feel like I knew how to get better at meditating and showed me how these statistics were scientifically proven to be significant to meditating.

The Flowtime meditation app also keeps track of data from each meditation that a user performs and compares the results of each new meditation to all previous meditations. This makes it very easy to track your progress while meditating and see the results of practicing it regularly.

Before using the Flowtime app, I was also worried that it would be difficult to know whether the sensors on the headband were gathering information during a meditation, or if they would be easy to disrupt. To take care of this issue, the app conveniently has a tab that will check the headband to see if all of the sensors have proper contact and will tell the user to adjust the headband if necessary.

Battery

I could not find any claims for how long the battery for the headband was expected to last, but I certainly wish that it held its charge longer. The battery certainly does not take long to charge, but also has a hard time keeping a charge.

During my first use of the headband, I had no problems with the battery over two or three meditation sessions over about thirty minutes. After using the headband, I put it back in the box. In a few days, when I took the headband out of the box to use it again, the battery charge was too low, and I had to charge it again before using it. I hadn’t specifically recalled the battery being low when I finished using it the first time.

While I’m not exactly certain why this occurred, I do wish it was something that I didn’t need to worry about as much when I wanted to use the headband.

Overall

Before my experience with the Flowtime meditation headband, I was slightly skeptical about meditation practices. Using the Flowtime meditation headband certainly changed my mind as it was very enjoyable.

The headband was easy to learn how to use fit comfortably on my head. The Flowtime app was exceptionally helpful in teaching me how to meditate and tracking my progress. If there was one thing that I would improve about the product it would be the battery resilience. After using the Flowtime meditation headband, I believe I will add meditation to my repertoire of stress-relieving techniques.

Treblab Z7 Pro wireless headphones review

1

It’s the holiday season again, and one of the more popular choices this time of year is wireless headphones. Every large tech company makes a pair these days, and there are plenty of popular brands. But they aren’t the only players in town.

Treblab is a lesser known name but consistently releases great hardware options. We’ve been testing the latest addition to its lineup with the Z7 Pro wireless headphones and these are another solid entry by Treblab.

Design

The Treblab Z7 Pro wireless headphones have a fairly traditional design. These are over-the-ear canned style headphones. Each earpiece is a large padded cup that helps secure and keeps the headphones comfortable around your ears.

The outside of the Z7 Pro earphones are completely blank but the right cup is flanked with a capacitive touch area for controlling playback. Below this on the right side is an ANC profile button, power button, and Bluetooth sync button. This side also houses the status LED, main microphone, and a 3.5mm auxiliary port.

The left side is much less busy. Here you’ll find the charging LED and lone USB-C charging port. There’s not even a traditional Treblab logo on the earphone cans.

The earcups fold up for easy storage. They also spin around to allow you to set them down on a level surface. This adds two great ways to flexibly keep the Z7 Pro earphones packed away in the included case or your bag.

Touch controls

Part design and part function are the aforementioned touch controls. The right earpiece plays a little bit of DJ for all the options to interact with the Z7 Pro while playing audio. Many of these gestures will have double functions while on a phone call.

Play and pause are possibly the most used of these options and can be activated with a  double-tap of the touch panel. The same double-tap will answer and end a phone call.

Swiping up and down on the touch area raises and lowers the volume while gestures back and forth will replay or skip tracks. Holding the touch panel on the Treblab Z7 Pro will activate voice assistants or reject an incoming phone call.

I found these touch controls to be intuitive and responsive. There’s no excessive triple taps or small capacitive area to present a learning curve. The large panel makes for easy activation and the simple controls never failed me once.

Sound

Audio on the Treblab Z7 Pro headphones is just superb. The larger drives and sealed can make it better than say earbuds just by design. However, the mix of acoustics is very rich and balanced.

Treblab has found a nice combination of active noise cancelation, natural vocals, and great highs, mids, and bass. These headphones are some of the higher-end performers I’ve used recently.

Phone calls were also positively reviewed by myself and fellow callers. I held a few standard voice calls as well as Microsoft Teams calls on my desktop. Both instances presented no major hangups during those conversations.

Battery and charging

Treblab rates the Z7 Pro headphones for up to 45 hours of total playback. After using these for a few weeks, I’ve found this to be accurate. I can make it through a full work week without having to reach for a charger. It’s honestly been difficult to drain these headphones.

When you do need to finally top off the banks, the Treblab Z7 Pro headphones can be fully recharged in around 2.5 hours via USB-C. Quick charge is also on board when you are pushed for time. This will give you five hours of playtime back in under 20 minutes.

Conclusion

Treblab has a great option for over-the-air headphones with the Z7 Pro. These canned audio devices will live up to the companies claims with a rich listening experience, comfortable fit, and long battery life. You also get this for under $160.

While this may put it over the impulse purchase threshold for many, it still makes the Z7 Pro headphones a compelling option for those in the market for a holiday gift. These headphones can easily compete with much more expensive lineups from Apple and Beats.

Google launches new shopping features to help keep track of your online shopping

0

As the holiday shopping season comes to a close, Google has been offering goodies to its users. Google has already launched a few new features this holiday season, and now they are focusing on your shopping experience.

These new shopping features are designed to help you keep track of what you want to buy and easily keep track of pricing as you do it.

Monitor those price drops

Waiting for deals on something that you want to buy can be frustrating and annoying. Having to constantly check to see if the price has dropped takes effort and time.

Beginning this week, Chrome for Android users in the United States will gain access to a new price drop feature.

Chrome will now show an item’s updated price right in the open tabs grid. No more manually refreshing websites to see if the price has dropped!

This feature will also come to iOS in the coming weeks.

Google Lens right from your address bar

When you are out shopping and you find something interesting, you can now search your surroundings with Google Lens right from the address bar. There is no more fumbling for the setting on your phone.

Google is also introducing Lens for Desktop. If you see a product in an image and want to learn more about it, you no longer have to Google it until you stumble upon the product.

Now you can just right-click and select “Search images with Google Lens”, select the product, and Lens will find the product for you.

Keep tabs on all your shopping carts

When shopping online, it can be tough to keep track of all your shopping carts. It’s easy to forget what sites you have been on, accidentally abandoning your shopping cart in the process.

Starting with Chrome on Windows and Mac in the United States, you can now open a new tab to see all your shopping carts in one place.

This tab will allow you to quickly see any site where you have added items to a shopping cart. Some retail partners may even offer you a discount when coming back to your cart.

Google has been hard at work trying to help make shopping online even easier. with these new shopping features. I am excited about Google keeping track of all my shopping carts and providing me with the information in one easy-to-use place.

Tronsmart Onyx Prime earbuds review

0

Tronsmart has long made quality wireless accessories at a price lower than most other brands. The company was kind enough to load us the latest offering from their lineup. Let’s find out how the truly wireless Tronsmart Onyx Prime earbuds stack up in this full review.

Design

The Onyx Prime earbuds have an interesting take on design. They have a similar silicone loop for securing the earpiece inside the ear, but the rest is very unique. The overall look of these tear-dropped earbuds is very angular and somewhat futuristic looking.

Past the angles is a pretty standard affair of the mentioned looped securement and silicone covering over the tip to help with noise cancellation. This combination also adds a great element of comfort for using the Tronsmart Onyx Prime for longer periods.

Internally, you’ll find a Qualcomm aptX experience paired with hybrid dual drivers. IPX4 water resistance is also onboard as well as Bluetooth 5.2 for better connections.

Controls

You can’t have a modern wireless earbuds entry without touch controls. Tronsmart has made sure to include these with the Onyx Prime headphones. With a few gestures, you can manage your playback without reaching for your phone each time.

Tapping twice on either Onyx Prime earbud will start or pause playback. This motion will also answer or end a phone call. These are two of the most used touch controls you can find and it’s nice to see this function on both earbuds.

You can lower or raise the volume thru touch as well. The right earpiece will raise the volume with a single tap and will lower decibels with a  press of the left side.

A long press of two seconds will move you thru tracks on the Onyx Prime. Holding this tap on the left earbud moves you back a track, while the same on the right-hand side skips forward in the playlist. The same cadence on either earbud will reject an incoming phone call.

Rounding out these controls on the Tronsmart Onyx Prime earbuds is voice assistants. This one’s a little tricky and took me some time to master but you can activate Google Assistant, Bixby, or Siri with a double-tap and hold for one second.

Audio

Playback performance is pretty good for music and podcasts. It’s a little more muted than some others but the overall sound comes out balanced. I wish at times there was a little more punch in the bass for music, but find it’s very good at pure vocal tracks like podcasts.

Phone calls have been stellar. I found that both parties had an easy time hearing and talking during the conversation. I had zero complaints while taking phone calls over the holidays while testing the Tronsmart Onyx Prime earbuds.

Battery

Another above-average aspect has been battery life. The unofficial baseline for wireless earbuds is four hours of playback and Tronsmart has blown this out of the water with seven hours of playback per charge. I found this estimate to be very realistic in daily use.

Pair this with the included battery case and you can push out 40-hours of total playback. When you do need to hit the outlet, it takes about two hours to charge the case and Tronsmart Onyx Prime earbuds using USB-C.

Conclusion

Tronsmart rarely disappoints and the Onyx Prime wireless earbuds are no exception. For the budget-minded, these headphones offer a good value for those wanting solid performance for less than Apple or Samsung.

You can pick up the Tronsmart Onyx Prime via Amazon for under $70 full retail. With the long list of specs and above-average battery life, these earbuds should be on anyone’s holiday gift wishlist.
