Skullcandy Hesh ANC headphones review

0

Skullcandy feels like it’s been around forever. As one of the original accessory makers in the modern smartphone era, the company has years of proven products. That includes great offerings with wireless headphones.

Our friends at Skullcandy sent me the latest from this lineup with the Hesh ANC wireless headphones. I’ve spent the last two weeks with these canned headphones, and let’s find out how these stack up in a full review.

Design

The overall design of the Skullcandy Hesh headphones will be familiar to anyone who has owned a set of recent wireless over-ear headphones. You get an oval-shaped padded earphones with an adjustable headband.

All the controls and ports are located on the right-sided earphone. Directly on the bottom, you have two inputs: the USB-C charging port and an auxiliary 3.5 mm audio jack.

On this same side, you’ll find the tactile buttons for controlling audio and power functions. This includes power, volume up and down, and a dedicated button for turning the ANC (active noise cancellation) mode on and off.

Holding the volume up for a full second will jump you forward a track, while the same on volume down returns you to the previous track. A single tap of the middle button will play/pause audio playback, as well as answer and end calls. Double tapping this button will launch your voice assistant.

Sound

I couldn’t be happier with the quality of sound from the Skullcandy Hesh headphones. The active noise cancellation works great to field off the outside interference. You can alter this with the previously mentioned button, and even with ANC turned off, the experience is rock solid.

Highs and mids pop through these over-the-ear headphones. Whether listening to more acoustic music or your favorite podcast, you won’t be disappointed. The same can be sound about the bass. It’s punchy without being overbearing.

Battery life

Battery life is outstanding. Skullcandy rates the Hesh ANC at 22 hours of playback, and I’ve found this to be fairly accurate. I can easily get through multiple eight-hour workdays without recharging.

When you do reach for the outlet and cable combo, you don’t need much time. With rapid charge on board, you get three hours of battery with just 10 minutes. A full charge took around 90 minutes.

Tile built-in

One last hidden feature of the Skullcandy Hesh ANC headphones is that it has the ability to be tracked by the Tile app. This means once you sync it to the mobile Tile app, you can always have an option to track them down when misplaced.

This works just like any other Tile device. Download the app. Pair the headphones as a new Tile device, and you are good to go.

Conclusion

Skullcandy has a compelling alternative to much pricier options with the Hesh ANC headphones. You get very comfortable over-ear audio, good sound, and great battery life for much less than much of the competition. Throw in little things like Tile integration, and you have a winner at $135.

You can purchase the Skullcandy Hesh ANC earphones through Amazon or the company’s website. There are four colorways to choose from: Chill Grey, Mod Grey, True Black, and Mod White. Our sample is the just in case you were wondering.

We get our first look at Android 13 with the latest developer preview

0

Google has launched the Android 13 Developer Preview 1, which is a great opportunity to take a look at what coming down the road. Android 13 comes with new privacy and security features as well as improved tools for developers.

Privacy and security

Android 13 continues Google’s focus on making Android as secure and private as possible. This continues with the new secure photo picker. You will get a photo picker that will only share what you choose to share with the app that is requesting it.

Android 13 Photo Picker

Developers will also get new nearby device permissions for Wi-Fi. The new permissions are now required for apps that call commonly used Wi-Fi APIs. Developers will be able to request nearby Wi-Fi devices, but not request user location. This keeps your privacy as secure as possible but still allows the apps to get the functionality that they need.

Developer productivity and tools

Developers will now have the option to send you a prompt asking if you would like to add a custom tile to the quick settings menu. This allows users to know what options are available to them in the quick settings menu.

Android 12 introduced Material You. It allows your Android device to pull colors from your wallpaper and set it as the color theme for your device. Google is extending the capabilities for Android 13. All your apps will now gain the ability to inherit the color theme of your device, allowing for a more uniform and visually pleasing experience.

You will also have the ability to select your language preferences for each app that you use. Developers will gain the ability to make the text on your display easier to read with improved hyphenation. They will also gain improved programmable shaders. In addition, Google will be updating Android to align with OpenJDK 11 LTS release.

App compatibility

Google will be bringing more updates to the Google Play store with project mainline. This will allow for features like the photo picker and OpenJDK 11 support to come to older Android devices. Google is calling for app optimization for larger devices like tablets, foldable, and Chromebooks.

This developer preview gives developers an easier environment for testing and debugging changes. It also will give plenty of notice about upcoming platform stability milestones. This should ensure an easier transition from Android 12 to Android 13.

The Android 13 Developer Preview is available for the Pixel 6 Pro, Pixel 6, Pixel 5a, Pixel 5, Pixel 4a (5G), Pixel 4a, Pixel 4 XL, or the Pixel 4.

Is the WSOP better online or in person?

0

The WSOP is one of the biggest and best poker tournaments out there, and there are many who would argue that it has to be attended in person. However, there are some who claim that the online events are just as good as any other that you might wish to attend. Is the WSOP better online or in person? Let’s find out!

In Person

If you decide to attend the WSOP Main Event in person then that means that you are headed to the bright lights of Las Vegas! Where else could you expect to find this amazing tournament except in the casino capital of the world? It has been held in several venues over the years. The current reign in Rio’s is coming to an end after seventeen years, with the tournament heading to Bally’s and Paris Las Vegas for the 2022 competition.

Going to the tournament in person means that you won’t miss a moment of the action. You will get to take part in games if you choose, but you can also decide to stick around and watch your favourite players work their magic. After all, the final table is bound to feature a few familiar faces. Getting to watch them play could be a dream come true for you!

Online

Nowadays, online poker is just as popular as in person games. With this in mind, the WSOP has made sure to run some of their events online through https://ggpoker.com. You now don’t have to go to Vegas to get in on the action. There are some massive events available online for games like Texas Hold’em, Omaha, and more.

So long as you are legally able to play online poker in your location, you will be able to enter these games. There is even the potential to win a WSOP bracelet in these games, not to mention the life-changing amounts of cash up for grabs! If you want to see what the in-person tournament is up to, you just have to tune into the broadcast or livestream! You could even decide to mix the two – playing in some games at the in person WSOP tournament and then returning to your hotel room to catch an online game!

Which is Best for You?

Since you can win bracelets and life-changing amounts of money across both live and online games, this is not a deciding factor you need to consider. Online games are also just as popular as live ones, so you will easily find that there are many people also entering either competition.

It can often come down to your preferences. Do you prefer playing at a physical table or a virtual one? This can be a big deciding factor in what you choose to play in. You also need to consider if you are able to travel to Las Vegas for the WSOP. Hotel rooms can get snapped up in an instant, and you need to think about some of the other travel costs associated with a trip to Vegas. It might be a better option for you to stay at home and play online games.

If you love poker, you should try to experience at least one WSOP where you can. However, you need to think carefully about whether it will be better to attend in person or just tune into an online game. As can be seen from above, there are lots of reasons why both might be the right option for you. Think carefully about whether you want to go to Vegas to enjoy the hustle and bustle of the full WSOP, or whether you just want to try your hand at the online games.

Google is bringing new features to Chrome with its latest update

0

Google’s latest Chrome update aims to keep you on track when you are interrupted and to help you find the settings you need faster and easier. There are three new features in this update. Two of them are for all Chrome desktop users. The third one brings new Chrome widgets to Android. Let’s dive in and see what Google has cooked up for us.

Stay on track with Journeys

Getting interrupted while doing research or browsing the web is an everyday part of life. It can be as simple as your kids needing you or you forgot to run an errand. Whatever the reason for the interruption, it’s not always easy to resume once you get back to your browser.

With Journeys, Google is looking to make resuming a little easier for you. Journeys is a feature that will allow you to revisit past searches grouped by topic.

When you type in a related word into your search bar, you will now see a “Resume your research” button. Alternatively, you can find your Journeys information on your Chrome History Journeys page.

Journeys will list all relevant sites that you visited and allow you to quickly pick up where you left off. It will even try to put the most relevant information front and center.

You will be able to turn off Journeys, delete sites, or clear specific groups. Journeys is rolling out to desktop Chrome browsers for all operating systems.

Actions from your address bar

Google is rolling out more Chrome Actions to allow you to quickly access settings by typing them into the search bar. This time-saving feature will attempt to predict when a user can benefit from a Chrome Action and will display the option.

Some new Actions are manage settings, customize Chrome, view your Chrome history, manage accessibility settings, share this tab, and play the Chrome Dino game.

Currently available for desktop, it will roll out to mobile soon.

Chrome widgets for Android

Google is bringing new Chrome widgets to Android with this latest Chrome update. You will be able to start a text search, voice search, Lens search, or open an incognito tab from your home screen.

This feature is rolling out to Android users now and can be accessed by long-pressing the Chrome icon and selecting “widgets”.
