Celebrate 94 years of Motorola with these deals

0

Paul V Galvin and his brother Joseph founded Motorola on September 25, 1928. It started as the Galvin Manufacturing Corporation in Chicago, Illinois, USA. During its 94-year run, Motorola has been a major player in creating and moving the wireless industry to where it is today.

They released a number of world firsts including:

  • 1943: FM portable two-way radio
  • 1955: Commercial high-power transistor
  • 1973: Portable cellular demonstration
  • 1983: Commercial portable cell phone (DynaTAC phone)
  • 1991: Narrowband Digital Public Safety Radio System
  • 1995: Two-Way Pager

In addition to pushing the industry forward, they showed that thin phones could be amazing by releasing the original Motorola Razr on September 6, 2006. Motorola wants to celebrate its history with you and what better way to do it than with some deals?

MeCool KM2 Plus TV with Android TV review

0

MeCool has recently had a run of Android TV and Google TV devices. The company has an array of options in its lineup now with the latest addition being the KM2 Plus streaming box. This new Android TV unit has some perks over some of the other streamers from MeCool.

Let’s take a closer look at the device.

Design

The MeCool KM2 Plus is a fairly simple box with a matte black finish and silver trimming. The front has a few status LEDs indicating the IR reader, network processes, and power. On top of the box is a silver MeCool logo.

Around the left side of the MeCool KM2 Plus are some inputs. This includes a USB-A 2.0, USB-A 3.0, and a microSD slot. The back of the unit houses several other ports. You’ll find AV and optical audio inputs. There is also an ethernet jack, HDMI out, and DC power port.

Performance and Software

The MeCool KM2 Plus runs Android TV 11 and handles it very well. While I’d prefer the latest Google TV like the KD3 TV stick, we also know Google is slowly rolling that certification process and simply may have not been an option for MeCool at launch.

Otherwise, any previous Android TV users will find themselves right at home. You get Google’s intuitive UI home screen that leverage Google Assistant for content recommendations and Voice Search. The UI is still crisp, clean, and modern for TV use.

One essential upgrade for the KM2 Plus over the mentioned KD3 stick is double the internal storage. With 16GB of mass storage, consumers have a lot more wiggle room after initially installing all their streaming options. This can still be expanded via the USB and SD slots, but having that built-in just makes more sense.

I also have to mention how good the included remote is for the MeCool KM2 Plus. It’s based on Google’s new OEM reference model and is one of my favorites. The button layout is intuitive and has dedicated options for Bookmarks menu options, power, volume, and Google Assistant.

Conclusion

MeCool makes the KM2 Plus fairly competitive with Roku and Apple TV at $90. If you are in the market for a streamer and want the Android ecosystem, the KM2 Plus is compelling. The great remote and the full array of expansion ports make it one of the more complete Google-powered units on the market.

This model can be purchased directly from MeCool or via Amazon. You can currently get 15% off with our code: 15Sep at MeCool.

Google last week rolled out another round of features coming to Android and Wear OS. This batch of updates focuses on productivity, communication, and accessibility.

Let’s dive into the improvements coming to an Android device near you.

Productivity

Nearby Share – Google makes transferring files across your devices even more effortless. Select an Android device logged into your Google account from the sharing menu to share files between them. You can even opt-in to transfer files while the screen is off.

Bigger Screens, Bigger Widgets – With Google’s work on Android for bigger screens, it only makes sense that certain apps would be optimized for the increased screen real estate. Google Drive widget will now have three home screen buttons to easily access Google Docs, Slides, and Sheets files. Google Keep will use the bigger widget to increase the font size and accessing your notes even easier.

Communication

Emojify – Emojify will help add the right emphasis to a message without having to select every emoji one at a time. Type your message and hit the Emojify button, it will automatically add the right emojis to your message. This is currently available in Gboard Beta and coming to all Gboard English users over the next few weeks.

Emoji Kitchen – Seasonal mashups are coming to Gboard. Google is combining your favorite emojis with the best parts of Fall to share with your friends.

Video Calls – Google Meet is getting a live sharing feature so you can co-watch YouTube videos and play games with up to 100 friends and family members at a time. Google Meet is also getting a multi-pinning tool to adjust your screen and stay focused on the people you choose.

Accessibility

Accessibility Tools – Google will be allowing you to add custom sounds to the Live Transcribe & Notifications function for the hearing impaired. All you have to do is record your custom sound and your phone or watch will alert you the next time the sound goes off. For the visually impaired, Google is bringing Audio Descriptions on Google TV to narrate live visual information using Google Assistant. You can start exploring by asking Google Assistant to search for audio description movies to look through the curated library.

Wear OS

Wear OS – Wear OS is getting a new Keep tile to let you dictate a note or checklist directly from your watch or manage ones made on another device. Google is also bringing Bitmoji to the Wear OS watch face. After setting up a personal avatar on Snapchat, Bitmoji.com, or the Bitmoji mobile app, just download the Bitmojii watch face to send it to your watch. The Bitmoji will change expressions depending on the time of day, the weather, and your physical activity.

Qualcomm announces 2 new chips: the Snapdragon 6 Gen 1 and Snapdragon 4 Gen 1

0

Qualcomm recently took the wraps off of its Snapdragon 6 Gen 1 and Snapdragon 4 Gen 1 mobile processors. They continue the new naming convention introduced with the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 but these two chips are destined for mid-range and budget devices. They are also the chipsets set to replace the outgoing Snapdragon 400 and Snapdragon 600.

Snapdragon 6 Gen 1

The Snapdragon 6 Gen 1 is a 4nm chipset with an octa-core CPU (4x Cortex-A78 and 4x Cortex A-55). It is the more powerful of the two chips here, with Qualcomm claiming a 40% performance boost over the Snapdragon 695. It also features an Adreno GPU that should bring a 35% performance increase.

In addition to its performance boost, it brings some decent set of camera capabilities. The Snapdragon 6 Gen 1 offers up to 200MP single-camera support, 25MP+16MP dual camera support, and 13MP triple camera setups. Qualcomm also bumped up video recording over the Snapdragon 695. It can now record 4K HDR videos.

Rounding out the specs is an improved AI engine, with a claimed 3x increase in AI performance. It also features a Snapdragon X62 5G modern, 120Hz FHD+ display support, Bluetooth 5.2, Wi-Fi 6E, and Quick Charge 4+ support.

The Snapdragon 6 Gen 1 will launch in Q1 2023 and Motorola has already confirmed it will be offering a device with this chip.

Snapdragon 4 Gen 1

Qualcomm also took the wraps off the 6 Gen 1’s weaker sibling. The Snapdragon 4 Gen 1 is a 6nm octa-core CPU (2x Cortex A-78 and 6x Cortex-A55). Qualcomm claims a 15% CPU boost and a 10% GPU performance boost over the outgoing Snapdragon 480.

The Snapdragon 4 Gen 1 features many of the same capabilities as the Snapdragon 695. It offers up to 108MP single-camera support, 25MP+13MP dual camera support, and 13MP triple camera setups. Unfortunately, this chip doesn’t have 4K recording capabilities.

The rest of the chip features an X51 modem, 120Hz FHD+ display support, Bluetooth 5.2, Wi-Fi 5, and Quick Charge 4+ support. The Snapdragon 4 Gen 1 will launch this quarter (Q3 2022).

Players searching for the best online casinos Canada has to offer should be aware of red flags that could ruin their perception of online gambling for good.

Online casinos with suspiciously worded reviews, unreliable customer support, slow payouts, and no visible license ought to be left to the scrap heap – and well outside our list.

That’s why we’re making sure our top Canadian casinos online avoid these pitfalls with easy-earn bonuses, tons of games, secure payment methods, and full mobile compatibility.

Spin Casino is our #1 pick for their leading variety of popular casino games, their cash prizes, and their full mobile casino; but we’ve got 16 additional sites ready to compete for your loyalty.

Bonuses: 4.3/5

To our surprise, we didn’t find any free spins at Spin Casino. However, we ran into their triple-tiered deposit match that can potentially score you an extra $1,000 in spending money.

When players make an initial deposit of at least $10, they’ll get a 100% match up to $400. Your second and third deposits with their site will each receive a 100% reload bonus up to $300.

However, there’s a catch here. To cash out on your bonus, however, you will have to meet a steep wagering requirement. On the bright side, the low min deposit of $10 for this bonus is the lowest around so even first time players can get a piece of the bonus action.

Deposits & Withdrawals: 4.5/5

Spin Casino accepts a leading variety of secure deposit methods.

Although you can’t use crypto here, players can make their deposits through Visa/MasterCard credit cards, debit cards, Interac, eChecks, InstaDebit, Paysafecard, MuchBetter, Instant Site Payments, ecoPayz, Flexepin, Neosurf, ecoVoucher, and bank transfer.

Finally, players can expect lightning-fast payout speeds and fee-free withdrawals across the board. Whether you’re cashing out via bank transfer, debit card, or ewallet; you can expect to have your Canadian dollars within 48 hours of initiating a withdrawal.

Mobile Compatibility: 4.5/5

Unfortunately, Spin Casino lacks a dedicated mobile app for their platform. However, you’ll be happy to know that their mobile casino website is fully optimized for almost every device.

Their mobile casino offers full compatibility across their 22 sports markets, 47 live dealer casino games, and 378+ slots. We had no problems navigating through their site; even on older devices.

We also found it effortless to deposit our money, place wagers with one click, and initiate withdrawals on-the-go.

2. Jackpot City – Best Canadian Online Casino for Progressive Jackpots

Pros

  • 50 progressive jackpots
  • Average RTP of 95.9%
  • 379 high-quality slot games
  • 4-tiered deposit match
  • Full mobile compatibility

Cons

  • High 70x wagering requirement
  • No online sportsbook

Jackpot City is our top-reviewed selection for big fish hunters. You’ll find 50 progressive jackpots and 379 slot games with an average return-to-player (RTP) percentage of 95.9%. Additionally, all of their slot games can be enjoyed while on-the-go through their native Android app.

Gaming Variety: 4.4/5

As you might expect from the name, Jackpot City carries 379 high-quality slot games alongside 50 progressive jackpots that pay into the hundreds of thousands. They also boast an average RTP percentage of 95.9%, which might convince big fish hunters to cast their lines here.

That said, you’ll also find around 100 table games to enjoy in between slots sessions. They host a massive 53 live dealer games (including 3 card poker games), 17 variations of blackjack, 15 baccarat tables, and 9 virtual roulette wheels.

You won’t find an online sportsbook here, unfortunately. Their online casino is dedicated towards providing a traditional, albeit varied, online gambling experience.

Bonuses: 4.5/5

Disappointingly enough, we didn’t find any free spins here. However, players can take advantage of Jackpot City’s quadruple-tiered welcome bonus with their first 4 deposits.

Here’s how it works – you’ll have the chance to score up to $1,600 in bonus money, as each of your first 4 deposits will receive a 100% match up to $400.

Deposits & Withdrawals: 4.5/5

Spin Casino and Jackpot City hit the nail on the head by offering the same 14 banking options for players to utilize. However, you won’t be able to place crypto wagers just yet.

That said, players can make their deposits through Visa/MasterCard, Interac, eChecks, InstaDebit, Paysafecard, MuchBetter, Instant Site Payments, ecoPayz, Flexepin, Neosurf, ecoVoucher, and bank transfer here.

Additionally, players can take advantage of Jackpot City’s low betting limits. Players only need to deposit $10 to qualify for their 4-tiered deposit bonus.

Finally, we appreciated their blazing-fast, fee-free withdrawals across the board. You can expect to have your money in hand within 48 hours of requesting a payout.

Mobile Compatibility: 4.3/5

Jackpot City offers a native app for Android devices. Additionally, their mobile casino website offers full compatibility across the entirety of their gaming library for iOS users.

We found ourselves wagering seamlessly across their 379+ slots and trying our hand at their 53 live dealer provisions while on-the-move.

Additionally, their mobile app allows for effortless one-click deposits and withdrawals.

Our only complaint here is that their website can lag slightly on older mobile devices, but by no means is their casino unusable.

3. Royal Panda – Best Online Casino in Canada for Live Dealer Games

Pros

  • 100% welcome bonus up to $1,000
  • Low 35x playthrough
  • Minimal betting limits
  • More than 1,200 of the best online casino games
  • Full mobile compatibility

Cons

  • No sports betting options

Royal Panda is our #3 online casino picks for their generous welcome bonus attached to industry-leading wagering requirements. Additionally, players of all kinds will love their 1,200 games and their full-scale mobile casino.

Gaming Variety: 4/5

Players who sign up with Royal Panda will find 1,200+ exclusive casino provisions.

Their library spreads across 1,118 popular slot games, 50+ table games, and almost 50 exclusive casino games not seen anywhere else.

Although Royal Panda isn’t a sports betting site; you’ll have access to 3 video poker variants; 17 virtual roulette wheels, 6 baccarat tables, 14 kinds of blackjack, and 25 live dealer games (including poker and blackjack).

What really stands out about the live casino is their wide variety of blackjack games and the compelling addition of some live game shows like Boom City, Sweet Bonanza Candyland, and Mega Wheel Live.

Bonuses: 4.5/5

While you shouldn’t expect any free spins just for making an account, Royal Panda has one of the easiest deposit matches we’ve seen.

When you make your first deposit of at least $15, you’ll receive a 100% match up to $1,000 attached to a low 35x playthrough. Although they don’t have the flashiest bonus we’ve reviewed, they carry some of the lowest wagering requirements the industry has to offer.

Deposits & Withdrawals: 4/5

Royal Panda accepts 7 forms of fiat currency. While they don’t take crypto wagers, players can make their deposits through Visa/MasterCard, iDebit, Interac, Neosurf, Paysafecard, or MuchBetter.

While we’d consider their banking menu to be fairly limited, we appreciated the number of e-wallets they accept. Additionally, we loved their low betting limits. Players only need to initially deposit $15 to qualify for their 100% bonus match up to $1,000.

Finally, they offer fee-free withdrawals and fairly quick payout speeds across the board. E-wallet payouts are processed instantly, and you’ll only have to wait 48 hours for debit card or wire transfer payouts.

Mobile Compatibility: 5/5

Royal Panda offers one of the best mobile casinos we’ve run into.

Their mobile website offers full compatibility for Android and iOS devices. Players can easily deposit their money, place wagers, and initiate withdrawals while on-the-go.

We had no problems betting across their 1,218 online casino games, even on older devices. It’s rare to encounter a fully optimized mobile casino website, but Royal Panda fits the bill.

4. Casino Nic – Best New Canadian Online Casino Site

Pros

  • Various welcome bonus offers
  • 3,800+ casino games
  • 3,300+ high-quality slots
  • 222 live dealer games
  • Native iOS/Android application

Cons

  • Some payouts are admittedly slow

Casino Nic is our top-reviewed new casino site. Although they were established in 2019, they’ve already compiled thousands of the most popular casino games and tons of exclusive titles under one roof. Additionally, players will love the variety of their bonus offerings.

Gaming Variety: 4/5

Casino Nic carries 3,866 total casino games. Although 3,320 of those games are high-quality online slots; players will also find nearly 700 table games to scroll through.

Their hundreds of table gaming options are spread across 300 different blackjack games, 56 video poker variants, 55 baccarat tables, 99 virtual roulette wheels, 10 bingo games, and 9 versions of keno.

Additionally, they offer a staggering 222 live dealer provisions (although most of these casino games are variations of live roulette). While you won’t find an online sportsbook with Casino Nic, that’s quite literally the only market they haven’t expanded to include.

If you’re mainly interested in finding thousands of exclusive titles and having more table games at your fingertips than you know what to do with; you’ll love placing your wagers through Casino Nic.

Bonuses: 4.3/5

CasinoNic offers 5 welcome bonuses for players to take advantage of.

Their most popular bonus offer comes in the form of up to $5,000 in extra cash over your first 10 deposits. Your initial deposit will score you a 100% match up to $500, while your next 9 deposits will receive an additional 50% match up to $500.

Additionally, players can enjoy reload bonuses twice a week. When you pad your casino wallet on Tuesdays, you’ll receive a 100% reload match up to $150.

However, we’d recommend making your deposits on Friday to enjoy their higher bonus cap – you can receive a 50% reload match up to $300.

Finally, if it’s your birthday when you sign up, you’ll get a 50% match on your first deposit of $250.

The 50x wagering requirement across the board is quite reasonable compared to its competitors above, so if you have less time to work it off this is a fine online casino choice.

Deposits & Withdrawals: 4/5

Players who sign up with CasinoNic can take advantage of 11 secure payment methods (although they don’t accept cryptocurrencies yet).

You’ll be able to make your deposits through Visa/MasterCard, Interac, iDebit, Maestro, ecoPayz, Skrill, MuchBetter, MiFinity, Flexepin, and Neosurf here.

We believe their betting limits are very reasonable. You’ll need to put down $10 for each of your first 10 deposits in order to qualify for your deposit match up to $5,000.

We were also happy to see them offer fee-free withdrawals across the board, but we were disappointed with their debit card/wire transfer payout speeds. Although e-wallet transactions are processed instantly, you’ll have to wait a full 5 days for all other fiat payouts to clear.

Mobile Compatibility: 4.5/5

CasinoNic is definitely with the times – they host a native mobile app for iOS and Android devices, and they offer full compatibility across their thousands of exclusive titles.

Even on older devices; we had no trouble spinning through their 3,000+ slots, placing our wagers throughout their 700+ table games, and playing numerous hands of live roulette while on-the-go.

We’d have given them perfect marks here if their mobile website’s user interface was a bit more organized; but we understand it’s hard to fit nearly 4,000 casino games into a smartphone screen.

If you’re going to play here, you should wager through their app regardless.

5. Cloudbet – Best Crypto Online Casino in Canada

Pros

  • Accepts 12 forms of crypto
  • 20+ sports categories
  • Live dealer casino poker + blackjack
  • Hundreds of online slots
  • 100% bonus match up to 5 BTC

Cons

  • No customer support phone line
  • No fiat currencies accepted

Cloudbet is simply one of the best Bitcoin casinos in the world. However, you will need to use NordVPN to access this casino – they offer the least expensive, most secure, and fastest web browsing experience on the market.

Gaming Variety: 4/5

Players who sign up with Cloudbet will have access to quite a few live dealer games, and a broad selection of online slots.

Additionally, you’ll find money lines, straight bets, parlays, and futures on 20 different sports categories. You can wager on everything from NFL games to eSports tournaments here.

While some of their odds don’t look very competitive at first glance, upon doing some digging; we were able to find money lines that even a sportsbook vet would consider betting on.

Moreover, their broad casino library includes several variations of live poker and blackjack in addition to hundreds of exclusive crypto titles and slots (alongside a few progressive jackpots).

Most notably, they’re the only casino we’ve reviewed that takes crypto wagers from Canadian players.

Bonuses: 4.4/5

Players won’t find any free spins here, but they will encounter a gigantic 100% initial deposit match up to 5 BTC.

You’ll only have to contend with a reasonable 40x playthrough to cash out; and 100% of every wager you place on their site goes towards satisfying their wagering requirements.

There’s no question that Cloudbet has the highest initial bonus match we’ve seen, but there’s a caveat here in that your bonus funds are released incrementally based on loyalty points.

This is great for players who don’t want to grind away for hours to get paid out. Getting the bonus in little chunks awarded as cash is a great way to keep the gameplay rolling.

Deposits & Withdrawals: 4/5

While Cloudbet is the only casino we’ve reviewed that takes crypto wagers from Canadian players; they regrettably don’t accept credit card or ewallet deposits.

That said, you can make your deposits through 20+ forms of crypto. Cloudbet accepts and pays out via BTC, ETH, ADA, Solana, Bitcoin Cash, USDT, USDC, PAX, PAXG, LINK, DAI, DASH, Dogecoin, Shiba Inu, Litecoin and more.

Their low betting limits mean you’ll only need to deposit $20 in crypto to qualify for your bonus match.

Additionally, as we’d expect here, they offer instant and fee-free crypto payouts.

Mobile Compatibility: 4/5

Unfortunately, you won’t find a native mobile app for Cloudbet’s platform.

The good news here is that their mobile website offers full compatibility across their 20+ sports categories and their entire selection of slot games.

We were surprised to find ourselves easily navigating through their mobile casino website, and we didn’t run into any perceivable lag when placing our wagers (even on older devices).

That said, some of their specialty casino games aren’t optimized for smartphones or tablets.

GameSir X2 Pro Review

0

Over the past couple of years, cloud-based gaming has taken off allowing us to enjoy Triple-A games on our mobile devices. Some of these services, such as Google’s Stadia or Amazon’s Luna, have their own dedicated controllers, while other services rely on third-party solutions. That has opened up a market for companies like GameSir to create a lineup of controllers designed specifically for your smartphone.

Previously, I reviewed the GameSir X2 Bluetooth controller and we’ve also covered the X3 controller that features a built-in fan. Now, we’ve got our hands on the brand-new GameSir X2 Pro that’s officially licensed by Xbox.

Design

Without a doubt, the GameSir X2 Pro uses the best design of any mobile controller. It is built to turn your phone into a gaming machine much like a Nintendo Switch. My favorite mobile controllers all use this design, and it’s a big improvement over mounting your phone to an ordinary gaming controller. In fact, despite owning a Stadia controller, I’ll always reach for the GameSir X2 Pro over it when playing games with Stadia on my smartphone.

One of the biggest questions you probably have is, will it fit my phone? For this review, I specifically used the largest phone in my collection, which is the 6.8-inch Redmagic 6. The X2 Pro was able to fit it easily and even had a little room to spare. So, large phones are no issue for the X2 Pro, and the rotating USB Type-C connector makes inserting and removing your phone super convenient.

Speaking of, there’s also a USB Type-C port on the bottom right-hand corner that allows for pass-through charging on many phones. This is such a handy feature because nothing drains your battery like gaming.

If you’ve used an Xbox controller before, then you’ll be familiar with the layout. The X2 Pro features a similar layout with two analog sticks, a D-pad, and the X, Y, A, B, LT, LB, RT, RB buttons. Additionally, the Xbox, menu, and view buttons are there as well, along with a capture button for snapping screenshots.

When not attached to your phone, GameSir includes a hardshell carrying case to help protect the analog sticks from being damaged while in transit. It may seem like a small thing, but nothing is worse than dealing with stick drift while trying to play your favorite game.

User experience

The GameSir X2 Pro is a little thick but feels comfortable in your hands. It features non-slip grips on the back which make it easy to hold and is still lightweight for long gaming sessions. Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve spent time testing the X2 Pro out with a handful of local and cloud-based games from different services.

The Alps 3D joysticks worked perfectly along with the tactile buttons, including the two additional mappable buttons on the back of the controller. Thankfully, setting up the programmable M1 and M2 buttons was as simple as long-pressing a few buttons. All it takes is holding in the menu, view, and M1 or M2 button for 3 seconds. Afterward, the lights on the X2 Pro will blink until you press the button you’d like to assign to the programmable buttons.

Final thoughts

Playing games with the GameSir X2 Pro was a delight. I’m in love with this format of controllers and GameSir does everything right here. There’s a rotating hardwired connection ensuring there will be no latency while gaming, a pass-through charging port, tactile responsive buttons and triggers, it supports large phones, and of course, two programmable buttons.

What more could you ask for from a mobile gaming controller? Furthermore, the GameSir X2 Pro undercuts its biggest competitor the Razer Kishi V2 coming in at only $80 and is available in either white or black.

Android phones already stealing Apple’s Dynamic Island feature

0

One of the highlights of Apple’s iPhone 14 series was undoubtedly the new Dynamic Island. The iOS feature, exclusive to the Pro models, essentially hides Apple’s new pill-shaped camera housing with information on notifications, calls, music, and other things.

Dynamic Island is an excellent example of an Apple innovation that Android developers will likely copy. And as we should have expected, a Xiaomi MIUI theme creator already replicates the Dynamic Island feature on Xiaomi phones. When the Island is expanded, it successfully conceals the selfie camera in the left corner.

Dynamic Island comes to Xiaomi with this theme

YouTuber Vaibhav Jain posted on Twitter the “Grumpy UI” MIUI theme. The video demonstrates the appearance of Dynamic Island-style alerts and a now-playing section on Xiaomi’s MIUI software. Although it looks interesting, the MIUI theme only supports the Chinese language and is still under development.

The theme won’t precisely duplicate the capabilities of Apple’s Dynamic Island. Despite what the video suggests, the theme creator for MIUI only allows for minor system behavior changes and does not support skinning other UI elements.

On the other hand, the sophisticated notification system on Android, in contrast to the one on the iPhone, makes it much simpler to manage alerts from multiple apps and services. Therefore, functionality similar to Dynamic Island won’t be that useful on Android phones.

It’s still too early to say whether Xiaomi or any other Android OEM would formally implement a version of the Dynamic Island on their hole-punch selfie camera.

Since the notch first debuted on smartphones, Android brands have attempted to do away with it, and Apple has taken a different route with the iPhone 14 Pro series. Instead of hiding the pill-shaped notch, the company has embraced it using Dynamic Island. The feature uses the area around the notch to show notifications and alerts with slick animations.

Nonetheless, all brands may switch to a cameraless display when the under-screen camera technology is fully developed.

The evolution of the phone app: From utility to necessity

0

The first mobile apps were developed in the 1980s, and very little has changed in how they are used in that time. What started as a tool to help people use their phones more efficiently has grown into something far more powerful and integral to our daily lives. Mobile applications have turned smartphones into virtual assistants that can handle any number of tasks, including research, shopping, bill paying, calorie counting, and taking care of mundane tasks that we don’t want to spend our time on. Learn how the evolution of the phone app has impacted society today, along with what you can expect from phone apps in the future.

A brief history of mobile phones

It’s hard to believe that it’s been less than two decades since the first mobile phone was introduced. The first cell phone was created in 1973 by Motorola. However, it wasn’t until 1983 that the first commercially available cell phone, the DynaTAC 8000X, was released. In the early days of mobile phones, they were large and expensive, and only used for making calls. But today, with all the apps that are available for Android devices (many can be downloaded from Google Play), there is so much more you can do with your smartphone. For example, if you are using an Android emulator on your computer, you can install many different apps including Chrome, Google Drive or even YouTube.

Why did we need mobile apps

In the early days of mobile phones, apps were seen as a way to improve the utility of the devices. They were seen as an addition that could make our lives more convenient and efficient. However, over time, apps have become much more than that.

Why do we need apps today

Remember the days when you used to have to go through a physical phone book to look up a number? Or when you had to actually be in your car to use GPS? How about when you had to wait until you got home to check your voicemail? Today, there are apps for all of those things and more. In fact, there are now over two million apps available on the app store, and that number is only growing. That’s why many people are wondering what we need with an Android emulator if we already have so many apps at our fingertips. But it’s not just about having more—it’s also about having better. An Android emulator can give you access to even more games, entertainment, and information than ever before because it doesn’t have any limitations like other devices do.

How will they change tomorrow

There’s no denying that phone apps have changed the way we live and interact with the world. They’ve made our lives more convenient, connected, and fun. But what will they look like tomorrow? We’ve already seen some drastic changes in recent years. For example, people who relied on just their cell phones now use smart speakers to take care of basic tasks such as playing music or taking orders for food delivery.

The Best VPNs for Android

0

There are a lot of different VPNs out there, but not all of them are created equal. That’s why it’s important to choose a VPN that is both reliable and effective. Fortunately, there are a few great VPNs for Android that will protect your privacy and keep you safe online. Here are the best VPNs for Android that you can use.

NordVPN

NordVPN is one of the most popular VPNs on the market, and for good reason. It’s fast, reliable, and has a strict no-logs policy. NordVPN also offers a wide range of features, including military-grade encryption, a kill switch, and DNS leak protection. Source: Best VPN for Belgium in 2022-Vpnetic

Plus, NordVPN can unblock a wide range of streaming services like Netflix, Hulu, BBC iPlayer, and more. And with its Android app, you can get all of these features in a user-friendly package.

ExpressVPN

If you’re looking for a fast VPN for Android, then ExpressVPN is the perfect choice. It’s one of the fastest VPNs on the market and can unblock almost any streaming service out there. Plus, ExpressVPN has strong security features like military-grade encryption and a kill switch.

And if you’re worried about privacy, ExpressVPN has a strict no-logs policy. This means that your data will never be stored or monitored by the VPN.

Surfshark

Surfshark is one of the newest VPNs on the market, but it’s already made a name for itself. It’s incredibly affordable, yet still offers fast speeds and strong security features. Plus, Surfshark can unblock a wide range of streaming services, including Netflix, Hulu, BBC iPlayer, and more.

And with its Android app, you can get all of these features in a user-friendly package.

How to Set Up a VPN on Your Android Device

In order to set up a VPN on your Android device, you will need to subscribe to a VPN service. Once you have subscribed to a service, you will need to download and install the VPN app on your device.  Once the app is installed, open it and sign in with your account details. Then, follow the prompts to set up the VPN connection. You will need to choose a server location and then connect to the server. Once connected, your traffic will be routed through the VPN tunnel and will be encrypted

You can now browse the web safely and securely on your Android device knowing that your data is protected by the VPN tunnel.

The Benefits of Using a VPN on Your Android Device

A Virtual Private Network is a tool that helps to keep your online activity and identity safe. By routing your internet traffic through a VPN server, your data is encrypted and much harder to intercept. This is especially useful when using public Wi-Fi hotspots, as these are often unsecured networks where it’s easy for someone to snoop on your traffic.

In addition to increased security, using a VPN can also help to bypass geo-restrictions. If you’re trying to access content that’s only available in certain countries, connecting to a VPN server in that country will allow you to “trick” websites into thinking you’re located there. This can be useful for accessing region-locked streaming content or downloading apps that are only available in certain countries.

Finally, using a VPN can help improve your online privacy by hiding your real IP address from websites and other online services. This makes it much harder for companies and advertisers to track your online activity and target you with ads.

How do I know if my VPN is working on my Android device?

There are a few ways to tell if your VPN is working on your Android device. One way is to check the status of your VPN connection in the notification bar. If you see a “VPN” icon, that means your VPN is connected. Another way to tell if your VPN is working is to check your IP address. If you’re connected to a VPN, your IP address should be different than it was before you connected.

In conclusion, there are some factors to consider when choosing the best VPN for Android. One of the most important is data security.  Speed is also essential as a VPN can help to improve your internet connection speed by routing your traffic through a server in a different location.

GravaStar Mars Pro Speaker review

0

How important is the design and look of a Bluetooth speaker to you?

Do you prefer a minimalist look that blends into any environment or something that sits on a bookshelf without calling attention to yourself? Or, might you be more interested in something that begs for that attention, asking you to not just listen to it, but look at it.

If you’re in the latter segment of consumer, the GravaStar Mars Pro speaker is something you’ll want to check out. It’s the sort of Bluetooth speaker that wants to be front and center or sitting prominently in the background of a Twitch stream.

The GravaStar Mars Pro is, for lack of a better description, a robotic spider from outer space. Remember DOR-15 (Doris) from Meet the Robinsons? How about the DSD1 Dwarf Spider Droid from Attack of the Clones? It’s not too unlike those two.

Available in a variety of colors, the speaker has the same design language as the GravaStar Sirius Pro earbuds. That is to say it looks like something that’s been through a few battles. Moreover, it employs RGB lighting for added visual effect.

Pricing ranges from about $230 up to $350 depending on which version you purchase. I’ve been sent the Black version which doesn’t have any war damage and comes in on the low end. The Shark 14 is a special edition and features a very cool paint job with a ton of detail and added weaponry. I don’t know that I’d spend an extra $120 for the visuals but I’m sure there are plenty who would.

There’s more at work here than just a cool paint job and interesting design. The materials are high quality, including the zinc alloy shells, metal bolts, and articulating legs. But those LED lights are perhaps the coolest aspect.

Gravastar advises there are six LEDS but the overall number of areas that seem to light up is considerably higher. Either way, it’s pretty neat stuff. You can change colors from a number of colors and modes with green, red, a pair of blues, purple, and amber dancing to your music, continuously cycling, or just looking awesome.

On the bottom of the belly you’ll find a USB-C charging port which can also be used as an analog input using the included USB-C to 3.5mm jack. Also in the box is a USB-A to USB-C cable for charging,

On the rear of the speaker is a handful of buttons, one for power and playback, one for Bluetooth pairing, and one for LED light mode. Volume control is its own unique deal with the strip of LED lights on the top of the orb. Simply place your finger wherever you want and slide it to raise or lower the volume level.

Putting aesthetics aside, how does the Mars Pro sound? I found it packed quite a punch and it was surprisingly loud. I did not expect it to have the presence that it does.

There’s a fair amount of clarity with an evenly distributed layers. It does skew a little bit heavy and dense at times, but it’s not bad or distracting. I would love an app to adjust equalizer settings or pick from a few preset options, especially as that’s becoming more common in pricier audio devices.

Despite its round shape, there’s no 360-degree field of audio. That is to say you’ll want to face the speaker to get the best sound and distribution. Move around the side or listen to it from the back and you’ll lose some of those highs.

I appreciate the support for SBC and AAC codecs but they do come with a bit of added latency. If you’re using this speaker for gaming, you won’t have the low-latency that you’d expect. This is a little strange to me, because as I indicated earlier, I see this speaker sitting on shelves and desks of gamers and Twitch streamers.

I also dig the 15 hour battery life as I don’t have to charge the speaker but maybe once or twice a week. Results will vary based on volume level and whether or not you’re using the LED lights.

While on the subject, this is also an area where an app would be helpful. There is no way to understand how much battery life remains so you’ll have to do what you can to track playback.

Conclusion

Judged solely ss a speaker, the GravaStar Mars Pro is a good one but not quite worth the $230 asking price. Were it to have a more standard or modern design I might expect to pay about $130-$150 for it.

Is it worth the extra $80-$100 for the futuristic robot spider design? It might be. It’s a little too “out there” to have it on my office desk but it does look cool on the bookshelf. And if I’m setting a mood with lights and music, I like having it around.

If you’re looking to outfit a studio, home office, or gaming room, the Mars Pro will help out quite a bit. I also like this speaker as a gift idea for someone who “has it all”.

You can learn more about the Mars Pro and other products at GravaStar’s website where you can purchase one for as low as $230 today.
