Amazon’s first e-reader with writing and drawing features, the Kindle Scribe, was unveiled last week. The brand-new Kindle comes with a 10.2-inch, 300 PPI display that seeks to mimic paper’s anti-glare and brightness levels. It also has a built-in stylus, which does not require charging.

The e-reader is marketed more as a tool for several tasks than just reading. With “lined paper” for meeting notes, Microsoft Word compatibility, and auto-saved to-do lists, it also aspires to be an Office-friendly gadget. Additionally, users can make handwritten notes on Kindle Scribe.

If you only use the Scribe as an e-reader, based on 30 minutes of reading each day, you can obtain up to three months of battery life. However, taking notes uses more power and significantly reduces battery life. So, depending on how you use it, you can still take notes and doodle for several weeks on a single charge.

“It’s inspired by the Kindle customers who have added billions of notes and highlights to books over the years,” said Kevin Keith from Amazon. “It’s also ideal for reviewing and marking up documents, managing your to-do list, or doodling over a big idea.”

The new e-reader weighs 433 grams and is barely 5.8mm (0.22 inches) thin. For comparison, the new updated baseline Kindle (2022) weighs 158 grams, whereas the Kindle Paperwhite weighs 205 grams. 35 LEDs make up the front lighting design of the Kindle Scribe.

The Paperwhite’s Mediatek SoC also powers the Kindle Scribe. Although 32GB and 64GB versions are offered, the base model only has 16GB of storage. It is worth noting that the Scribe is a Wi-Fi-only, non-cellular Kindle.

The 16GB variant with a standard pen costs $340 at retail, while the premium pen option (with an attached eraser) raises the price to $370.

The premium version also comes in a 32GB ($390) and 64GB ($420) storage capacities.

All versions are currently up for pre-order on the Amazon website with a launch date of November 30.

Chinese customers can purchase an Axon 30S in black or blue starting today. However, there are currently no details on worldwide availability.

Google is shutting down Stadia and refunding everyone

Google has announced the official shutdown of Stadia, its game streaming service. Google is giving players access to their games library through January 18, 2023. So you should focus on completing any games that you have abandoned. On a positive note, Google will be refunding all hardware purchases made through the Google Store. It will also refund all game and add-on purchases made through the Stadia store.

Rumors have swirled for years about the demise of Stadia, but it always seemed to chug along. While the streaming service was technologically capable, the service never caught on with consumers due to its lack of games.

Google has stated that it will apply Stadia technology to other services. They specifically called out services like YouTube, Google Play, and its Augmented Reality efforts. This decision comes as Google is reducing the number of projects throughout the company. This includes its exit from the Chromebook hardware market.

Google expects to have the majority of the refunds completed by mid-January 2023. Google Stadia users should check out Google’s Help Center for more details.

Come October 6, the Pixel Watch will be released alongside the Pixel 7 series of phones. And even though there have been leaks for almost a year around the watch, there are still a few questions lingering out there.

Take for instance the price, availability, and color of the wearable. What might we expect for the watch as it pertains to those details?

Last month, a 9to5google source revealed that there’s an alleged price of $399.99 for the smartwatch. This price, however, was listed for the cellular LTE-capable version in the US. Presumably a Bluetooth/Wi-Fi model price will come in at $349.99 or lower.

Reportedly, each model will arrive in beautiful colors. The base model (Wi-Fi/Bluetooth is said to be offered in Black case with Obsidian band, Silver/Chalk, and Gold/Hazel.

As for the LTE model, it is available in Black/Obsidian, Silver/Charcoal, and Gold/Hazel. 

Other details expected in the Pixel Watch include a Samsung Exynos 9110 processor with a coprocessor, 1.5GB RAM, and 32GB of storage. These features would put the new wearable ahead of the pack of other Wear OS devices.

Rounding things out, rumors suggest a battery around 300mAh with a magnetic charger, built-in GPS, 50m water resistance, NFC, and an number of health sensors.

There are a lot of various factors that make up a good pair of earbuds, the comfort, look, control, battery. The one thing that can really separate a good pair of earbuds, however, is the sound. Earbuds that produce professional grade sound stand apart and are able to really immerse you in audio.

The Edifier NeoBuds Pro showed me what professional sound on a pair of earbuds sounds like. Previously I did now know what earbuds were capable of.

Comfort & Look

These earbuds use a small, rounded, rubber tip that is on the end of the earbud to insert into the ear canal. With this tip and the rounded earbud shape I find these ear buds to fit quite nicely and have never experienced any pain due to the fit.

The earbuds come with quite a variety of rubber tips to fit different ear sizes as well. These tips easily come on and off the matt black earbuds. The outside the earbuds have a clean look, are about as small as a paperclip, and do not draw much attention.

Sound

Let me start this section off by talking about the noise cancelling of the earbuds. When you are wearing both ear buds and have the volume up, the sounds of your environment disappear, and you are left with just you and your audio.

On top of that, the sound is amazing, the quality of the treble and mid are fantastic, the sound is clear as water. The bass just goes above and beyond what I would ever expect a pair of earbuds to be able to do.

I find that most earbuds produce littler bass than what I would like however with these earbuds not only is the bass prominent but the sound of it is very high quality.

Battery Life

Every day of the week I walk for a minimum of 40 minutes, usually more on Mondays and Wednesdays. During this time, I am always using my earbuds and I find that I only have to charge them about one every week and a half or so.

The battery life that I have found is about eight hours of listening before you have to charge your earbuds. They charge pretty quickly though, and I find I can obtain a full battery within a couple hours. The charging port for these earbuds is type C which is pretty common amongst different kinds of phones and laptops.

Customization

The customization settings on these ear buds are pretty sick once you are able to connect them to the app. The earbuds on their own are not able to do much customization but if you download the Edifier app there are tons of options.

The adjustments you are able to make on the sound mixes and the presets you are able to save are pretty extensive. On top of that you are able to control how much outside sound blockage the earbuds do. The volume of each earbud can also be controlled individually on the app and there are even options to add on ambience.

User Experience

When first opening up the earbuds I had no problem following the instructions and connecting the earbuds to my phones Bluetooth and the Edifier app. Most days these earbuds are super easy to use for me and automatically connect to my phone.

However, every so often I find that if you pull out one ear bud to fast and immediately shut the case it will not automatically connect. Once this happens you may have a little trouble making sure the earbuds are connected to your phone, but it is an easy fix as long as you take your time and leave the case open a little bit longer when connecting.

Conclusion

The Edifier Neobuds Pro are built for consumers who enjoy high quality sound. By not only having some of the most quality earbud speakers I have experienced but also by giving the consumer total control over the sound balance of the earbuds, these earbuds are built for those who appreciate high quality.
