Soundcore Liberty 4 NC earbuds review

Anker’s audio sub-brand, Soundcore, has quickly become one of my favorites. Each year the company pumps out multiple wireless devices that are worth a look if you’re shopping for that market. I’ve recently received the new Soundcore Liberty 4 NC edition wireless earbuds, and this new offering is way too good for the price.

Design

I’ve said this in many of my earbuds reviews, but it’s seriously hard to innovate here. The Soundcore Liberty 4 NC has a familiar tear-dropped design with a stem. It’s fairly common these days and is easily recognizable from many models by Apple, Samsung, and JBL.

The outside of the stem houses part of the mic array as well as the capacitive touch area for controls. Other specs include a gyro-sensor for in-ear detection, 11mm drivers, and Adaptive Noise Cancellation 2.0. IPX4 water resistance and Bluetooth 5.3 are onboard as well.

App

The capacitive touch area is also commonplace at this point. I won’t go into much detail here as I think most are self-explanatory at this point, but the taps and holds can be customized in the Soundcore app. I kept the defaults of play/pause on single taps and a few more, but you can tweak these as you feel.

The main section of the app you’ll want to check out is HearID. This is a distinct profile of your ear and listening capabilities. Anker’s app tweaks the Liberty 4 NC frequencies to your liking as well as the noise cancellation.

Lastly, the Soundcore Liberty 4 NC will most likely need a firmware update from time to time. My review unit needed it out of the box. The Soundcore handles this with ease with devices connected over Bluetooth.

Sound

The sound on the Liberty 4 NC earbuds is really good. Anker has filled this with the previously mentioned specs and HearID 2.0 to create a noise cancellation profile that is catered to your listening preference. This can filter out up to 98.5% of outside interference when the ANC profile is turned all the way up.

The playback is crisp with the Hi-Res 11mm drivers. I’ve found this has been one of the better-performing Liberty models to date. I think these may outperform the Liberty 4s in many ways. The overall sound is similar, with a great balance between all the frequencies.

The quality in both is top-notch, but I think the volume is much better on the Liberty 4 NC in comparison. I found the Liberty 4s could be somewhat low or muted in some environments even with volume at 100%.

Battery life and charging case

Anker advertises that a full charge of the Liberty 4 NC earbuds should last up to 10 hours of playtime. I think this to be accurate. I’ve been pushing them a tad over the 50% volume benchmark and still getting around 8.5 hours away from the charging case.

Speaking of the case, Anker always has a tactile feature of the Liberty line cases, and the new button to pop open the Liberty 4 NC case is just satisfying. The reaction of the spring-loaded lid is downright fidget-spinner-worthy. It also offers the practical edge of charging the earbuds four times.

I was nervous that since the Liberty 4 NC earbuds are technically the budget model, Anker would remove wireless charging, but that’s not the case with this case. Qi wireless charging is here and works as you’d expect. USB-C wired charging is here too. The case supports fast charging the earbuds and can get you four hours of playback in just 10 minutes.

Conclusion

Anker has knocked it out of the park with the Soundcore Liberty 4 NC earbuds. The audio is superb, the battery life is fantastic, and did I mention that the price is just $99? Add all this up and you have a packed spec sheet for why you should buy the new Liberty 4 NC earbuds.

You can snag the new Liberty 4 NC earbuds from both Soundcore’s website or their long-standing retail partner over at Amazon. Both links are listed below with five color options: Clear White, Light Blue, Navy Blue, Pastel Pink, and Velvet Black.

Tronsmart Halo 200 Party Speaker review

Tronsmart has been revamping its party speaker lineup with the new name under the Halo umbrella. We’ve seen several new devices under this branding, and the company has announced the newest, and largest, Halo with the 200 Party and karaoke speaker. This oversized party speaker brings a ton of power and light action to this Halo lineup.

Design

The Halo 200 keeps its sibling’s industrial design, which is a good thing. The Halo 200 has a great look that evokes traditional amp speakers with modern curves and rounded edges.

Tronsmart knows how to create top-notch party speakers. The Halo 200 boasts a sleek black color coating that seamlessly blends into any setup, as evident in the picture below. It truly elevates the ambiance of any space, even my messy workstation.

The party lights on the Halo 200 are a crucial feature for any party speaker, and Tronsmart delivers here as well. You can choose from five different lighting modes, all of which sync with the music. Additionally, a higher IP rating like IPX6 for better water resistance would be beneficial for a portable party speaker like the Halo 200.

Sound

What sets the Tronsmart Halo 200 apart is its three-way sound system. The speaker’s driver configuration produces powerful bass, outstanding treble, superb highs, and excellent mid-range sound. I was pleasantly surprised to discover hidden details in my favorite tracks with this speaker—it’s truly that good!

A standout feature is the SoundPulse tech, accessible with a button on the speaker’s top. When activated, this proprietary technology eliminates noise and harmonic distortion from the output, while also broadening the sound range and enhancing the overall audio experience. If you crave powerful bass in your music, SoundPulse tech will be a game-changer for you.

The speaker also features a USB port for playing music from local storage, and it can even act as a power bank with power pass-through. Tronsmart has thought of everything!

App and connectivity

Controlling the Halo 200 is a breeze thanks to the user-friendly app. The stereo pairing feature allows you to pair two speakers for True Wireless Stereo (TWS) sound, and with the broadcast mode, you can sync with up to 100 speakers, creating a fully-fledged party setup.

Connectivity options abound in the Tronsmart Halo 200. It comes equipped with Bluetooth 5.3 for wireless streaming and a bundled aux cable for wired mode. Additionally, two dedicated inputs allow you to connect wired microphones or a guitar, providing a fully immersive karaoke experience with friends.

While the Halo 200 excels in many aspects, there are a couple of features I would have liked to see. More advanced light controls for the party lights, such as the ability to keep the lights in a single-color mode with a pulsing effect, would have been a nice addition.

Battery Life

While the absence of a USB-C charging port may be a downside for some, the Halo 200 more than makes up for it with its impressive 18-hour runtime and fast 3.5-hour charging time. The 120W output rating demands a robust power/charging system, making the AC port a sensible choice.

The cable is included in the box and offers a decent amount of length, but for something that may need to be in unique environments, I’d love for it to be longer. The cord looks to be just three feet long. It would be nice to see this be at least twice the length.

Just Fun

You can’t close out this review without mentioning the karaoke setup. With the two included wireless microphones, you can quickly turn the Halo 200 into a dedicated singalong machine. These mics leverage the company’s longstanding ECHO TWS system to pair the devices together.

Once linked, you’re ready to find your favorite jams and sing some tunes slightly off-key. As an aside, I recommend the KaraFun app to make this magic work. This app allows you to pick some real classics with lyrics scrolling across the screen. If you don’t have a Chromecast or Android TV, the KaraFun YouTube channel works just as well.

Conclusion

In conclusion, the Tronsmart Halo 200 is a powerful party monster that takes wireless listening to the next level. It excels as a karaoke speaker as well. Despite a few minor shortcomings, the impressive features it offers make it well worth the price. And don’t forget to check out our review of the Halo 100 wireless speaker—a great unit in its own right!

You can snag the Tronsmart Halo 200 Party speaker via the company’s website or $170 for the lone speaker up to $230 with the dual microphones.

1More SonoFlow ANC Headphones review

It’s been a while since I had the opportunity to try out some of 1More’s headphone offerings, and after the release of the SonoFlow over-ear headphones with ANC, I was excited to give them a try. Thankfully, the brand was kind enough to send out this pair for review, and I’ve spent the past few weeks checking them out.

Design

I’ve long been a fan of 1More’s earbuds, but this is the first pair of wireless over-ear headphones I’ve experienced from the company. The SonoFlow headphones are a mix of plastic, protein leather, and memory foam. This ensures they are lightweight, durable, and comfortable to wear.

Comfort

The 1More SonoFlow weigh in at 250g, which makes them extremely lightweight and comfortable to wear for hours combined with the protein leather and memory foam. The only downside is that your ears can get warm after a while, but that’s common among closed-back headphones, and the tight seal is needed for ANC purposes.

User experience

While many headphones these days opt for touch-sensitive controls, the SonoFlow uses physical buttons. I often prefer real buttons because touch-sensitive controls are so easy to activate accidentally. On the other hand, having tactile buttons to control playback, volume, and the ANC modes are more reliable and consistent to use day to day.

I’m glad 1More went this route with the SonoFlow, but I’m less thrilled about the included headphone jack. Don’t get me wrong, I love the option to use over-ear headphones with a wired connection.

This is more about the size of the port 1More decided to use. Instead of 3.5mm, which is commonly used, the SonoFlow uses a 2.5mm jack. I’m sure this was done as some sort of space-saving compromise, but 2.5mm to 3.5mm cables are far less common. Meaning, you’re unlikely to find another one lying around the house that is compatible if you misplace the cable that comes in the box.

My overall experience with the 1More SonoFlow headphones was a positive one, however, there was one issue that popped up. Occasionally, I’d experience the audio cut out for a second, which isn’t uncommon with some headphones when using LDAC. Unfortunately, I also noticed this when I disabled LDAC.

App

In the past, 1More’s app was basically useless and I questioned why it even existed. I’m happy to report that the app has come a long way over the years and offers everything a modern headphone app should. It’s no longer just a way to update the firmware, but now the app allows you to check the battery level, toggle ANC and Pass-through modes, and adjust the equalizer.

1More provides you with numerous EQ presets to choose from, as well as a custom 12-band option that will impress most audiophiles out there.

Audio quality

The SonoFlow has a wonderfully balanced mix of treble and deep bass for a warm sound with plenty of detail when listening to tracks. The only criticism I have would be that the soundstage isn’t quite as open as I’d like, but that’s when compared to headphones that are nearly three times the price. At only $100, the SonoFlow still exceeds my expectations.

Especially considering the app features such a fantastic equalizer and there’s LDAC support. Simply put, the SonoFlow sound like they should cost more than they do, but don’t expect them to replace headphones that are nearly triple the price.

ANC

1More’s QuietMax technology does an admirable job blocking outside noise. I found it isolated me from the running air conditioner and lawn mowers that can be often heard during the summer. It should be more than enough for most people, although, the SonoFlow lacks options to adjust the level like many other more expensive headphones these days.

Battery

1More rates the SonoFlow for up to a whopping 70 hours. Of course, that’s only if you listen with LDAC and ANC disabled. Even with both of those features enabled, the battery life is rated for an impressive 50 hours, and I was unable to drain the SonoFlow after a full week of heavy listening. There’s no denying the SonoFlows are battery champs and should give you plenty of time in between charging.

When it comes time to charge, there is no wireless charging option, but the SonoFlow supports fast charging and can provide five hours of listening time with only five minutes of charging.

Final thoughts

1More has always been good about producing headphones with a good balance of sound quality and price. One of its latest, the 1More SonoFlow, is another joining that list with impressively long battery life, active noise cancellation, and audio quality that is sure to please for the $100 price tag.

For that price, you really can’t go wrong with the SonoFlow headphones, it even includes the LDAC codec which is a premium feature many other more expensive headphones usually lack. I’d say the SonoFlow from 1More are darn near perfect at this price point, if not for the occasional connection drops. However, that’s about the only flaw I could find.

Scosche MagicMount Pro Charge Car Charger review

Jumping ship to iOS almost a year ago opened my eyes to a whole new division of phone charging equipment. Scosche has been on this bandwagon since nearly the beginning of the iPhone. I’ve been testing the company’s latest MagSafe-capable MagicMount charger for a few weeks now, and it’s a pretty solid solution.

Design

The Scosche MagicMount Pro Charge will be familiar to anyone who’s used these types of devices. You have a base with a pivot ball mount that can be attached to multiple options. Whether you want the included dash mount, or prefer to purchase the optional air vent mount the MagicMount has you covered.

The front of the MagicMount features the MagSafe compatible wireless charger array and an additional standard MagicMount magnet as well. This allows the Pro Charge to be functional with the stock iPhone MagSafe or with plates attached to Android phones or older iPhones.

The power cable is permanently attached to the back of the MagicMount Pro Charge and has a barrel proprietary 12v plug on the other end. I find both troubling for universal standards and general replacement. If this would have been a dual USB-C connection on each end I’d have been much happier.

Speaking of, the included car charger does include a second USB-C port for another device to charge even with the MagicMount plugged in. This is a nice inclusion from Scosche to understand that most of don’t want to lose the power port exclusively to the driver’s device.

Daily use

Other than the non-standard plugs, I found the MagicMount to be what I expected. My iPhone 13 charges well on the Pro Charge while I’m commuting to work. I would note that the magnets don’t exactly scream secure with my MagSafe capable case. I’ve not had this issue with other chargers, but I did have my iPhone drop off this when going thru a few rough construction zones.

The Scosche MagicMount Pro Charge sticks to the MagSafe 20-watt standard charging. This should be more than enough to top off the battery banks while driving around town. I’m able to actively charge my iPhone while using YouTube Music and Maps via CarPlay without issue.

Conclusion

The Scosche MagicMount Pro Charge is a nice addition to the car if you have an iPhone with MagSafe. The magnetic mount makes for a great way to both wireless charge and secure your phone while in transit. I’d even say it’s a worthy purchase for my Android fanboys as well.

You can purchase the Pro Mount Charge via Scosche’s website for full retail of $60. However, at the moment, this is marked down to just $35 which makes it a steal.
