Xiaomi 14T Pro Review:  Solid Performance, Exceptional Cameras, and Competitive Price

Chinese tech giant Xiaomi typically releases its T-series devices in the middle of the year. This year, Xiaomi launched the Xiaomi 14T and Xiaomi 14T Pro smartphones in Europe and the UK. The company’s T-series devices combine features from both flagship and mid-range smartphones, providing high-end specifications alongside more affordable options to maintain a competitive price.

Xiaomi’s affordable flagship smartphone offers plenty, including a 144Hz AMOLED panel, a triple Leica-tuned 50MP camera setup, a MediaTek Dimensity 9300+ processor, and a 5,000mAh battery that supports faster wired and wireless charging. This is what distinguishes the 14T Pro from the standard 14T smartphone.

The 50W wireless charging is a welcome addition, setting it apart from many mainstream phones. For context, the newly launched Snapdragon 8 Elite-powered iQOO 13 smartphone lacks wireless charging. This feature is essential for a flagship smartphone, and I appreciate Xiaomi for including it, especially at such a competitive price.

This is the first phone in the T-series equipped with Google’s and Xiaomi’s latest AI capabilities. The Xiaomi 14T Pro shows progress compared to its predecessor, but does it stand its ground against competitors like the Google Pixel 9 and the Samsung Galaxy S24+? Let’s find out.

Price and Availability 

The Xiaomi 14T Pro starts at €799/£650 for the base 12GB + 256GB model, and the 12GB + 512GB variant is priced at €899/£699. Despite adding note-worthy upgrades, Xiaomi doesn’t raise the price from its predecessor, which is great. However, the main concern is its limited availability. Unfortunately, Xiaomi’s high-value smartphone isn’t officially available in the United States. Xiaomi offers three beautiful color options for the 14T Pro: Titan Black, Titan Grey, and Titan Blue.

From a hardware perspective, it’s a really high-performance smartphone and easily goes head-to-head with the likes of the Google Pixel 9 and Samsung Galaxy S24+, which are £150 and £100 more expensive than the 14T Pro. 

Design and Build

At first glance, the Xiaomi 14T Pro looks very similar to the standard Xiaomi 14 series, but the company has added unique elements to make it stand out from a design perspective. The most noticeable difference between the Xiaomi 14 series and the Xiaomi 14T Pro is the camera layout. The four symmetrical camera rings on the back give the 14T Pro smartphone a bold look.

The device features an aluminum alloy frame, which feels both sturdy and premium. The brand claims that the new metal construction is 116% stronger than that of its predecessor. The phone has relatively flat sides and a 3D curved glass back that offers a comfortable fit when held in the hand. Available in Titan Black, Titan Blue, and Titan Gray colorways, Xiaomi provided a classy Titan Black review unit. The matte black finish has a diffused glitter effect, which looks absolutely stunning.

On the back, you’ll find a square-shaped camera bump that houses four symmetrical camera rings, which look quite attractive. Another creative design element is the power button; Xiaomi has added a textured finish to it, giving an extra premium touch to the overall aesthetic.

Like many flagship smartphones, Xiaomi has also eliminated the 3.5mm headphone jack. At the bottom, you’ll find a USB Type-C port, a SIM tray, and downward-firing stereo speakers, while an IR Blaster located on the top edge allows you to control a variety of electronic devices such as TVs, air conditioners, projectors, fans, smart boxes, and more, directly from the smartphone using the pre-installed Mi Remote app.

Speaking about dimensions, the Xiaomi 14T Pro is 8.4mm thick and weighs 209 grams. For context, the Galaxy S24+ is just 7.7mm thick and weighs only 196 grams. At 8.4mm, the 14T Pro isn’t as compact as the S24+, but it isn’t as thick as the S24 Ultra. No doubt, the phone is well-built and feels very solid, lightweight, and comfortable while using, and one can easily operate it with a single hand.

Like Apple and Samsung, Xiaomi also removed the charging brick from the box, which is very disappointing. You’ll get a premium-quality silicone case, a Type A-to-Type C charging cable, and a pre-applied screen protector; that’s it.

To wrap up the design elements, the Xiaomi 14T Pro has a flagship-level IP68 water and dust resistance rating, meaning it can easily withstand dust and water. Xiaomi claims that the device can survive for up to 30 minutes in up to 2m of fresh water.

Xiaomi packs some impressive display specifications into the smartphone. The Xiaomi 14T Pro features a 6.67-inch AMOLED display with a resolution of 2712 x 1220 pixels and a dynamic refresh rate of 144Hz. The panel also boasts a 93.3% screen-to-body ratio, Dolby Vision, HDR10+, 12-bit color reproduction, and support for 3840Hz pulse width modulation dimming. Additionally, Xiaomi has boosted the panel’s peak brightness to an astounding 4,000 nits.

It’s hard to find any fault with display specifications like these. The flat AMOLED screen, set within even bezels, reproduces punchy, sharp, vivid, and bright colors while streaming or gaming. The 144Hz refresh rate is the cherry on top, offering an unprecedented level of smoothness while scrolling through social media. Note that enabling higher refresh rates can consume significant power. Alternatively, Xiaomi offers an adaptive refresh rate and a 60Hz refresh rate lock option to help save battery life. You can easily adjust all these settings from the 14T Pro’s settings panel.

The screen is bright and provides an excellent viewing experience, even in sunlight. During my testing, I didn’t notice any issues with the display. The color accuracy and temperature are impressive under various lighting conditions. Xiaomi offers a range of color scheme options in the phone’s settings, including Original Color Pro, Vivid, Saturated, and more, enhancing the viewing experience. The display also features a TÜV Rheinland-certified hardware-based blue light filter, ensuring a comfortable viewing experience even in low light.

There’s an in-display fingerprint sensor, which I found mostly accurate in most scenarios. It’s snappy, reliable, and works accurately without any issues whatsoever. Xiaomi also added stereo speakers on the 14T Pro, which sound quite good with decent bass, subtle mids, and crisp highs. Surprisingly, there’s no sound distortion even at high volumes, which is great.

Performance

The new Xiaomi flagship is powered by a 4nm-based MediaTek Dimensity 9300+ processor, which is quite interesting. The brand typically opts for Qualcomm’s high-end chipsets, but this time, Xiaomi has chosen MediaTek for its flagship T-series smartphones. While MediaTek’s chips have improved significantly over the years, the Dimensity 9300+ chipset truly cements this progress.

To test its capabilities, I put the Xiaomi 14T Pro through various benchmark tests, and the results were impressive. The MediaTek Dimensity 9300+ chipset goes head-to-head with Qualcomm’s high-end Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chipset. In fact, it outperforms Snapdragon 8 Gen 3-powered smartphones, such as the standard Xiaomi 14 and the Samsung Galaxy S24+, in the Geekbench 6 benchmark test. The 14T Pro smartphone achieved scores of 2133 in single-core and 6953 in multi-core tests. For context, the Galaxy S24+ scored 2126 and 6599 points in the same benchmark. Meanwhile, the Pixel 9 lagged behind with its Tensor G4 processor.

Now, let’s talk about the phone’s gaming performance. I played some popular mobile titles such as BGMI, Genshin Impact, COD Warzone, and Shadow Fight Arena 4 on the Xiaomi 14T Pro. This smartphone performs terrific. While playing BGMI, I noticed no lags or frame drops on high-graphics settings. I experienced smooth and lag-free gameplay with a maximum of 90 fps. Speaking about Genshin Impact, I played GI on maxed-out settings—surprisingly, the smartphone managed to pull out fluid performance without any stuttering or lag issues.

Although the phone gets slightly warm during my two hours of heavy gaming sessions. But that’s quite normal and isn’t a big issue. There’s also Xiaomi’s 3D IceLoop cooling system, which works in the backend and keeps the device cool during extended gaming sessions. 

I used the Xiaomi 14T Pro as my daily driver for three weeks and really enjoyed my time with this beast. My day-to-day experience with the 14T Pro was simply great. The scrolling experience on the 144Hz display was awesome, and I didn’t notice any lags or freeze issues whatsoever. 

My review unit has 12GB LPDDR5X RAM + 512GB UFS 4.0 internal storage with no room for storage expansion. Xiaomi also offers 12GB+256GB/12GB+1TB storage options as well. You’ll get the latest connectivity with the Xiaomi 14T Pro, with support for Bluetooth 5.4, cutting-edge WiFi 7, NFC, and 5G. 

Battery

The Xiaomi 14T Pro houses a 5,000mAh battery, which is slightly larger than its immediate rival, such as the Galaxy S24+. The MediaTek Dimensity 9300+ is a very efficient chipset in terms of optimizing power. During my testing, the Xiaomi 14T Pro lasts around 13 hours and 10 minutes on a single charge, with around five hours of screen time. My usage mostly includes streaming anime, scrolling social media, calling, messaging, and casual gaming. 

Speaking about charging speed, the phone supports 120W fast wired charging, and Xiaomi claims that the device can fully recharge in just 19 minutes. However, my real-world testing showed a slightly different number than Xiaomi’s claimed ones. The Xiaomi 14T Pro takes 24 minutes and 49 seconds to hit the 100% mark with 120W charging brick. No doubt, that’s way faster than some of its immediate competitors, such as Samsung, OnePlus, and Google. 

Alongside 120W superfast wired charging, the 14T Pro also has 50W wireless charging support, which is a welcome upgrade over the 13T Pro. Xiaomi claims a full recharge in 45 minutes with a 50W wireless charger. The smartphone took over one hour and twenty-five minutes to reach the 100% mark via a 15W wireless charger.  

Camera

The Xiaomi 14T Pro houses a familiar Leica-branded triple rear camera array consisting of a 50MP + 50MP + 12MP camera, found in the last generation. However, Xiaomi slightly tweaks camera hardware to stand against the competition. Xiaomi incorporated the 1/1.3” large 50MP LightFusion 900 primary sensor into the 14T Pro, which is the same sensor that the flagship Xiaomi 14 sports. Xiaomi also partnered with the premium camera brand Leica to squeeze out the maximum from each lens.

First, let’s talk about the main camera. The 50MP primary camera captures really great shots in daylight, with impressive dynamic range, a great level of detail, and vibrant colors. In low-light conditions, the sensor manages to capture decent shots. However, it’s not as impressive as the likes of the VivoX100 Pro or the Google Pixel 9. The device struggles to pull out maximum details in the darker conditions. Although the sensor performs well in well-lit conditions. 

The device captures very good portraits, especially with a range of Leica Modes and AI portrait magic. Leica offers two different filters, which you have to choose between Leica Vibrant and Leica Authentic. I’m more into the Leica Authentic; in fact, all the shots captured above are in the ‘Leica Authentic’ mode. If you are more into colors, then Leica Vibrant is for you. I also tried both filters and here are the results. Decide which one is better; I’ll leave this to you, and please let us know in the comment section. 

The main camera is complemented by a 50MP Leica-tuned telephoto lens with a focal length equivalent to 60mm. Unfortunately, there’s no periscope system here, and you are only left with 5x hybrid zoom and 30x digital zoom. The telephoto lens captures good shots while maintaining a decent amount of detail. There’s also a 12MP ultrawide shooter with a 15mm equivalent focal length. Sadly, this is the same sensor that Xiaomi used in the 13T Pro. The sensor snaps lovely shots in good lighting conditions, but things went south in low light conditions. I found often the photos weren’t as sharp as they needed to be, and this is because of the lack of autofocus. It manages to produce good-looking colors, but I’m not impressed by its overall performance.

Coming to the selfie camera, the Xiaomi 14T Pro features an 32MP impressive front camera, which is much like the Xiaomi 14. It works perfectly fine for selfies and video calls. You get sharp, detailed selfies with decent skin tones straight out of the 32MP snapper.

Video recording goes up to 8k at 30 fps in standard mode. I shot some videos with the 14T Pro smartphone, and it captures really nice videos with a well-balanced color, impressive dynamic range, sharp detail, and better stabilization, thanks to OIS support. Xiaomi also offers a range of different Leica filters, which you can directly apply/change during recording. There’s MasterCinema mode, which allows users to record video in 10-bit Rec.   

Software and AI features

The Xiaomi 14T Pro runs Android 14-based HyperOS out of the box. Xiaomi offers a variety of customization features, from gestures, home screen personalizations, and wallpapers to fonts and display tweaking options. Yes, one thing that doesn’t change with Xiaomi is its bloatware. I noticed dozens of pre-installed third-party apps, such as Redbus, Facebook, LinkedIn, Spotify, Amazon, Netflix, and more. This is really disappointing to see all this in the flagship phones. However, this is not new for Xiaomi; even Xiaomi’s Ultra-series smartphones ship with some bloatware. I hope Xiaomi will work on this to provide a clean and bloatware-free UI experience to consumers.

The improved HyperOS 2 feels snappier and super smooth. I didn’t notice any lags or slowdowns while navigating through UI. It’s really simple and easy to use. Although it isn’t as clean and stylish as Google’s UI as seen on the Pixel 9/8 series. I felt the control center is overstuffed, although you can make it aesthetically good by chopping several toggles. 

Xiaomi has promised four major OS updates (up to Android 18) and five years of security patches for the 14T Pro smartphone, which is good. However, it’s not as robust as the Galaxy S24 and Pixel 9 series devices, which come with straight seven years of software support.

AI has been a buzzword since the beginning of the year. With flagship phones like the Samsung Galaxy S24 series and the Pixel 9 series launching with dozens of AI features, Xiaomi has now joined the race with its flagship Xiaomi 14 and 14T series. Additionally, Xiaomi incorporated several AI features into the 14T Pro smartphone with the help of Google. The smartphone offers a wide range of AI functionalities, including Google’s Circle to Search, Gemini, Xiaomi AI Interpreter, AI notes, an AI recorder with real-time translation, AI subtitles, an AI proofreader, AI summaries, an AI image editor, and more. I enjoyed exploring all these AI features, which are incredibly handy and provide extra convenience.

If you are looking for a solid alternative to the Samsung Galaxy S24+/S24 or Google Pixel 9, then you can’t go wrong with this Xiaomi.

Once out of the box, you will find the two largest components—the backrest and the seat—packaged along with ancillary boxes containing the toolkit and assembly items. After unpacking the remaining armrests, legs, and rollers, it’s time to reach for the manual.

The manual is well laid out and offers step-by-step instructions for getting the Sihoo Doro S100 off your floor and ready for use. The documentation is divided into phases that correspond with the hardware kit provided, clearly indicating which hardware section is needed for each phase. This makes the process of setting up the chair fairly painless.

I’d estimate it took me around 30 minutes to complete the assembly of the Sihoo Doro S100, starting from when I cut the first strip of tape on the box. As I mentioned, the manual simplifies this process for anyone who has done something similar. You even receive the appropriate single-sized wrench for each bolt required.

Design

The Sihoo Doro S100 positions itself as an ergonomic alternative to traditional office chairs, and this distinction is evident from the moment you put it together. Beyond the white and grey mesh coverings, you’ll notice that this chair is built differently.

One of the standout features is the “floating” lower back support. This dual-dynamic lumbar system can accommodate nearly anyone, thanks to its spring-loaded panels that help maintain proper back alignment. It’s a great advantage to have lumbar support integrated into the design, eliminating the need for a separate pillow or additional support right out of the box.

Just below the right-hand side of the seat, you will find the two major adjustment points on the Sihoo Doro S100. One lever controls the hydraulic lifting and lowering of the chair, while the other handle adjusts the chair’s tilt.

The seat itself slides slightly forward and backward for better positioning. You can also lower and raise the entire backrest. Finally, there are two padded injection foam armrests providing ergonomic support in multiple positions and angles, both vertically and horizontally.

Comfort

I initially found myself fighting against this chair, but I have grown to really enjoy it. The ergonomic design, with its upright positioning, highlights how much my previous chair was likely doing me a disservice. The dynamic design ensures that my back remains straight and that my feet are flat on the floor.

This design makes it easy to maintain an ideal posture. While we all know we shouldn’t slouch in a chair, the Sihoo Doro S100 is particularly mindful of posture. The leg positioning ensures that, with my feet in contact with the ground, there is minimal restriction of blood flow in the backs of my legs. Additionally, the slight curve of the edge at the front of the seat contributes to this comfort.

However, I do have two small gripes with the chair. The first is that the vertical settings of the S100 armrests can be hit or miss. They are designed to be pulled up to the desired height and then drop slightly to lock in place, much like pulling too hard on a seatbelt.

I’ve found that achieving the desired position is fairly consistent on the left arm, but much harder on the right. The “drop” mechanism struggles to lock in on this side. For a chair in this price range, I would prefer a physical button to manage the armrest position instead of relying on the current mechanism.

The second change I’d recommend involves the tilt and reclining angles. While this may be influenced by ergonomic design preferences, I would like to see at least one additional angle available from the locking arm under the seat. Currently, there is one position for a standard upright position, one that tilts back at approximately 45 degrees, and a final position around 25 degrees. I would love to have an option available at around 60 degrees for a more casual, upright position.

Denon PerL Review: Outstanding Sound Quality, but Feature Set Falls Short

Japan-based hi-fi professional audio equipment manufacturer Denon has entered the premium wireless earbuds market with its Denon PerL series. The company’s latest PerL series earbuds are positioned as premium offerings, priced at $299 for the Denon PerL Pro and $179 for the standard PerL.

In this review, I will focus on the standard pair, the Denon PerL. Denon has included a personalized listening profile in the Denon PerL to differentiate itself from the competition. However, the earbuds are not without their imperfections, which I will discuss later. The brand is venturing into the wireless earbuds market, and time will tell how it resonates with consumers.

With an already saturated market, the Denon PerL is competing against established names like the Bose QuietComfort and Sony LinkBuds Fit. But does the Denon PerL have what it takes to stand out from the competition? Let’s find out.

The Denon PerL is originally priced at $179.99. Available in black and white color options, it is now available at a discounted price of $99 on Denon’s official website and Amazon.

Denon has added several extra features to the Pro model, including spatial audio, an EQ slider, multipoint support for up to two devices, lossless audio, wireless charging, and improved battery life. Of course, it doesn’t come cheap. If you’re not interested in spatial audio or wireless charging and prefer to spend less on earbuds, the standard variant might be a suitable option.

Design and Comfort 

At first glance, the Denon PerL looks relatively larger than the mainstream earbuds. It has a fully circular design with Denon branding on each earbud, which looks quite premium. Design-wise, there aren’t any major differences; the Pro variant has a shiny coating around the circular side, which the standard variant lacks. 

When I took the Denon PerL earbuds in my hand, they felt relatively heavier than most earbuds that I’ve tested recently. Speaking more precisely, each bud weighs around 7.1g. In comparison, the Bose QuietComfort Ultra earbuds weigh 6.2g, and the Xiaomi Buds 5 is even lighter at 4.2g each. 

The PerL earbuds are available in either white or black color options. Denon provides us with a classic black shade that looks great. The matte black charging case has a durable plastic construction and a very minimalist aesthetic with subtle curves that feel premium in hand. Weighing 47.4 grams, the case is bulky but compact enough to easily slip into bags and pockets without taking up much space. On the back side, there’s a USB-C port for charging. Unfortunately, the standard variant doesn’t support wireless charging. A small LED indicator on the front showcases the battery life of the case.

Despite the earbuds’ odd shape, they offer a great fit for my ears thanks to their two-piece ear system. Additionally, Denon provides four sizes of silicon tips, one pair of foam tips, and two sizes of winged support bands that you can change according to your ear fitting. Denon also offers an ear-tip fit test via its accompanying app to ensure a good seal. I would highly recommend running a fit test before using it. 

During my testing period, I found the buds super comfortable while using them for a shorter period of time (for example, roughly for 3 to 4 hours), but they aren’t great for a longer period of time (more than 6 hours). This might be because of the weight of the buds. I also tried the PerL during my gym sessions, and surprisingly, they didn’t fall out a single time while performing cardio (normal speed), cycling, or squats activities. 

The best thing about the PerL is that you get a lot of real estate on both buds, which also doubles as touch controls, and you can also customize them at your convenience. More on that later. The buds are rated IPX4 for sweat resistance; however, the case isn’t waterproof, which is disappointing.

Performance 

Under the hood, Denon incorporated a 10mm triple-layer dynamic driver in each bud. The PerL is compatible with all the standard codecs, including AAC, SBC, aptx, and Qualcomm aptX Lossless, which is good. The buds use Bluetooth 5.0 for wireless connectivity. Unfortunately, there’s no multi-point connectivity, which is very disappointing, and you’ll surely miss this handy feature while using two devices simultaneously. 

To me, the best way to judge any earbuds is to use them with their default settings—no sound tweaking or profile switching. I did the same with the Denon PerL and was simply amazed by the results. It was the first time I heard pure, clear, and spacious sound straight out of the box. Denon’s sound engineers truly nailed it.

Denon has implemented its in-house Masimo Adaptive Acoustic Technology (AAT) into the PerL. This technology creates a unique hearing profile for the user by measuring the sensitivity of their ears. Creating a specific sound profile is a simple process that involves following easy steps in the app. First, you need to insert the earbuds into your ears and sit still in a quiet place for a few minutes. During this process, you’ll hear a range of beeps at different pitches and speeds. Once the measurement is complete, a colorful amorphous graphic will appear on the app screen; this represents your unique hearing profile.

Now let’s talk about how the Denon PerL sounds with its personalized listening profile. As usual, I started with my go-to song for testing this type of device—Vidya Vox’s “Be Free.” The Denon PerL provides clear, detailed, and spacious audio, featuring spectacular highs, perfect bass, and sharp mids. Vocals are reproduced exceptionally well, and the instrument separation is outstanding; you can hear all the individual elements in beautiful harmony.

I also enjoyed The Knife’s “Silent Shout.” The sound was clean and clear, with full and balanced bass. While the bass on the PerL isn’t as thunderous as some competitors, such as the Bose QC Buds, Sony LinkBuds Fit, or JBL Live Beam 2, it is just perfect for my taste, and I’m sure you’ll love it too. Similarly, Serena’s “Safari” sounds equally impressive, offering crisp and spacious audio.

The difference is immediately noticeable when you switch from Denon’s default mode to your personalized sound profile. I experienced a richer, deeper sound with the hearing profile. However, you can easily switch back to the default mode whenever you want via the accompanying app.

The active noise cancellation works effectively, effectively filtering out background noises such as people’s chatter, fans, and traffic sounds. However, it isn’t as effective as the Pro model’s adaptive noise cancellation, but it’s good enough to get the job done.

I loved the transparency mode on the PerL, which allows outside environmental sound in without being overly harsh. In fact, the sound becomes much smoother and quieter with transparency mode enabled. Denon has implemented two microphones on each bud, while the Pro model has four. During my testing period, I found that the Denon PerL delivers detailed and clear voices during voice and video calls without any dropouts or connection issues whatsoever.

What I don’t like about the PerL is the absence of spatial audio and head tracking support, which feels underwhelming. In comparison, the Pro model is well-equipped with features, but you’ll need to pay a premium price for those enhancements.

Software 

The PerL earbuds do have Denon companion app support. Since the buds already lack lots of features, the Denon Headphones app isn’t different. You’ll get a limited set of customizations in the app compared to the Pro model. The app doesn’t offer EQ sliders, spatial audio, multipoint toggle, music takeover, and mode switching features. 

The companion app, available on Android and iOS devices, features a user-friendly interface. You can save up to three personalized sound profiles, switch between different profiles, and enable or disable ANC (Active Noise Cancellation) or Social (transparency) mode through the app. Additionally, the app includes an immersion mode feature that lets you adjust the level of bass.

I found the touch controls to be very responsive and reliable during use. You can also customize these controls via the companion app. For instance, you can set a single tap to enable or disable social mode, a double tap for volume up or down, and a triple tap to turn ANC on or off. A double tap and hold allows you to change the track, along with several other customizable options.

Battery

The battery life of the Denon PerL is decent. Denon claims that the PerL offers up to 6 hours of battery life on a single charge and up to 18 hours with the charging case. During my testing, I achieved around 4 hours and 45 minutes of battery life with Active Noise Cancellation (ANC) activated, and 5 hours and 35 minutes with ANC turned off. When using the case, you can expect around 15 hours of battery life with ANC engaged. Overall, the battery performance of the earbuds is average compared to other options in this price range. For instance, the Bose QC earbuds offer approximately 8.5 hours with ANC, while the JBL Live Beam 3 exceeds this with a remarkable 12 hours of ANC playback.

Additionally, the Denon PerL includes quick charging support; a 10-minute charge provides an hour of listening time. It takes about two hours to fully charge the case, and users can expect up to three additional charges from the case itself.

Should I Buy the Denon PerL Earbuds?

Buy them if…

  • You want an extremely clean, spacious, and controlled sound 
  • You want highly responsive touch controls

My biggest personal gripe is that the standard variant misses out on some must-have features like multipoint, EQ customizations, and spatial audio support.
