Verizon has a new Annual Upgrade Program

0

Following in the footsteps of Apple, Verizon recently announced an Annual Upgrade Program. If you’ve purchased either a Samsung Galaxy S7 or S7 Edge with Verizon’s device payment option, you’re eligible for the program.

In addition, if you pre-ordered the S7/S7 Edge, you’ve been automatically enrolled in the new upgrade program. Every year, users in the program can turn in their phone and upgrade to a new phone each year. Users can upgrade 30 days after activating a new phone when more than 50% of the device has been paid off.

[graphiq id=”18aE8IIYkPr” title=”Samsung Galaxy S7″ width=”600″ height=”727″ url=”https://w.graphiq.com/w/18aE8IIYkPr” link=”http://smartphones.specout.com/l/5087/Samsung-Galaxy-S7″ link_text=”Samsung Galaxy S7 | SpecOut”]

If you don’t want to upgrade, you don’t have to, and you can still pay off your phone in a regular 24-month plan. For a limited time, if you switch to Verizon or you’re a new customer activating the new Samsung phones, you  can potentially receive $100. If you’re already a Verizon customer you can receive up to $300 when you trade in your previous phone and upgrade or add a line for the Samsung Galaxy S7/S7 Edge.

Want a giant tablet as a TV? Try the Samsung Galaxy View

0

Samsung Galaxy View: Entertainment Reimagined. Samsung’s latest device has big britches to fill. In a new bid to dominate your living room, the new Galaxy View is now available through Verizon. At a retail price of $600, let’s see if this giant tablet is worth it.

Samsung Galaxy View Specs

[graphiq id=”jxhESlQLKQJ” title=”Samsung Galaxy View Overview” width=”600″ height=”689″ url=”https://w.graphiq.com/w/jxhESlQLKQJ” link=”http://tablets.specout.com/l/1191/Samsung-Galaxy-View” link_text=”Samsung Galaxy View Overview | SpecOut”]

Other specs include:

  • 1.6Ghz  octa-core CPU
  • Android 5.1.1 OS
  • 2.1MP front camera
  • 64GB local storage with microSD support up to 128GB
  • LI-ION battery with 8 hours of battery life

According to PRNewswire, “your finger [is] the remote”, so unless you can pair the tablet with a Bluetooth remote, the Galaxy View sounds awfully inconvenient if you use it as a TV. It’s obviously too big to compete with the iPad Pro and other such tablets, so the View seems to be in its own, weird category, especially since it’s a giant tablet instead of, say, a set-top box. However, if a device like this sounds appealing to you, head on over to Verizon Wireless.

Users can add the Galaxy View to their existing Verizon plans at an addition $10/month. Verizon Plans come in five sizes, ranging from size S to XXL.

Simply Wallpaper: Beautiful wallpapers delivered to your device [Review]

If you like to keep your device as stock as possible, the only choice you have for customizing it is by changing its wallpaper. You can do a Google search to find wallpapers, but this is tedious and you have to keep an eye on the image’s resolution in order to avoid having a pixelated mess ruining your home screen. There’s also apps like Backdrops and Muzei, which do a splendid job in keeping things fresh. Simply Wallpaper, from Tribute Tech, offers a different approach by doing all the hard work: it looks for an image, downloads it to your device and sets it as your wallpaper without you having to lift a finger.

Developer: Tribute Tech

Price: Free, with a $0.99 in-app purchase.

Highlights:

  • Setup asks for your email address, even though you don’t have an account to manage.
  • Wallpapers are change automatically every few hours.
  • Eight different categories.
  • No ads.

Setup

Simply Wallpaper Setup
Easy setup ruined by an email input prompt.

The setup has the only negative aspect I could find in this app. After showing a nice tutorial, you have to input your email at the end. Why? It’s not needed at all, since you don’t have an account to manage, and in-app purchases are linked to your Google account, so forcing you to give your email in order to continue is completely unnecessary.

If you are looking for an app like Backdrops, then you’re in the wrong place. Simply Wallpaper doesn’t show you a long list of available wallpapers, but instead, chooses wallpapers for you. When finishing the tutorial, you must activate the option “Enable Wallpapers” and choose among eight categories: Nature, City, Abstract, Black and White, Closeup, Material Design, Textures, and Architecture. And that’s it! Your wallpaper will immediately change, and then it will be switched automatically every four hours (this interval is customizable, by the way).

Features

In the time I’ve spent with the app, it has worked flawlessly. Wallpapers that have been downloaded to my device are crisp, beautiful, and they don’t look pixelated on my Nexus 6’s QHD screen. According to its website, wallpapers are curated by real people, and, if you are a photographer, you can sign up and upload your own work. I’m really impressed with the quality of the wallpapers being used for the app.

Inside the app itself, there’s a floating action button in the main screen to show information about your current wallpaper. This will take you to a screen where you can see the photographer’s information, such as his/her website and Twitter account. From here, you can upvote and downvote your current wallpaper. The app also shows you when is your next wallpaper scheduled to download, and lets you skip your current wallpaper in case you don’t like it, although this option is locked behind a $0.99 in-app purchase. Finally, you can see some statistics, such as the number of wallpapers you have seen, and your number of upvotes/downvotes.

Simply Wallpaper Main Screen
Simply Wallpaper’s colorful main screen.
Simply Wallpaper Settings
Simply Wallpaper lets you change some options.

You can access the app’s preferences from the top of the main screen. You can turn on an option to download new wallpapers only when you are connected to a Wi-Fi network. It’s worth pointing out that if the schedule for a new wallpaper arrives and you are not connected to a network, the update will not be queued until you connect to Wi-Fi. The app just schedules a new update in four hours.

The app also provides an option to enable notifications when the wallpaper changes. These notifications have upvote and downvote buttons too to make voting easier. Finally, you can also change the refresh interval from as little as two hours to as much as five days.

Conclusion

Simply Wallpaper is an app that you configure once, and just forget about it until you see its magic at work later. It’s very convenient, the wallpapers are good, and it doesn’t drain your battery in a noticeable way. With only a $0.99 in-app purchase and absolutely no ads, Simply Wallpaper is worth checking out if you find yourself constantly changing your wallpaper, and if you can get past giving your email address to a third-party.

1byone’s $20 waterproof Bluetooth speaker is a nugget of excellence

As fun as phones, headphones, and fancy speakers are to review, some of my absolute favorite reviews come from price conscious technology. Not everyone has a ton of excess money to spend on gadgets, and many accessories are ‘nice to have’ rather than ‘need to have’. Wireless speakers definitely fall in the ‘nice to have’ category and sometimes we can’t afford to spend $200-500 on one speaker.

For the last month I have been using a $20 water resistant speaker from 1byone, and I have been enjoying it from the moment I powered it on.

DSC00691

Design

  • Bluetooth 4.0
  • 3 watt mono speaker
  • IPX6 certified – can withstand heavy water sprays
  • Seven hour battery life
  • 1400 mAh battery
  • Rubberized case with controls on the side for fast forward/rewind, play pause, answer phone call, and on/off.
  • Support for a microSD card
  • Clip for hanging on backpacks or laptop bags

The 1byone rugged portable speaker built for indoor and outdoor usage is quite small as it easily fits in the palm of my hand. It feels solid with a metal back plate, metal grill, and a fully rubberized outer coating. On the sides are where the controls reside, and are hidden behind the rubber materials. They are easy to see and use as the speaker gives voice prompts when the buttons are pushed.

DSC00697

Inside of the speaker is a built in microphone for taking phone calls through the speaker. The most useful function of this well-built speaker is its ability to resist water with an IPX6 rating.

And in usual fashion, 1byone exceeds expectations in the build category as they always emphasize quality no matter the price. Based on the design alone you would expect this speaker to cost three times as much as it does.

Usage

For the purposes of testing, I have been using the LG V10 smartphone paired with the speaker. Upon turning the 1byone rugged Bluetooth speaker on, it immediately looked to pair to one of my devices. On the first attempt I paired the Bluetooth speaker and played the Top Hits playlist from Google Play. With any speaker, the most important feature is the sound quality.

While the sound may not reach Bose or Fugoo level quality, the 1byone rugged speaker does sound fantastic for a device in this price range. It gets loud enough to where I can hear it loud and clear when I use it in the shower every morning. With a three inch driver, it doesn’t shake the floor, but it does sound balanced with a decent amount of lows too. Sometimes small speakers don’t have enough air behind the driver to produce decent lows, but this one does.

DSC00693

The 1byone rugged speaker is designed for indoor and outdoor usage, but when I took it out with me at the park, the sound can get lost in the openness quickly. It’s loud enough for a hike, but not for a picnic with friends where you might be 10 or more feet away from the speaker. So I personally found it best to leave it in the shower, or to bring it with me on walks with the dog.

Sometimes we can get caught up in trying to analyze every single detail when it comes to audio, but for a speaker in the $20 price category, the most important thing to focus on is simply the music. Is it fun to listen to? Yes. Will you sing to the speaker because you’re enjoying the music in the shower? Yes. It’s rugged, well-built, easy to pair and most importantly is a heck of a lot of fun to listen to.

Bluetooth calling is also available on this speaker, but if you want to take full adavantge of it you need to be in a quiet room. You will need to hold the speaker to about within a foot of your face for getting quality sound. Anything further and the person on the other end of the call will have a hard time hearing you. It’s not the best call quality speaker I’ve used, but there are worse.

What I liked
  • Price
  • Build quality
  • Fun music reproduction – balanced sound with decent lows
  • Built-in rechargeable battery
  • Water resistance
  • Clip for hanging in the shower
  • Monitor power level from your phone
What I didn’t like
  • Mediocre call quality

Summary

The 1byone rugged Bluetooth speaker is a nugget of excellence when you consider how well it is built, the sound quality, and most importantly its $20 price point. It’s a fantastic speaker for leaving in the shower so you can listen to music or podcasts while getting ready for your day.

Check out the 1byone Bluetooth speaker at Amazon.com.

Pre-orders for LG G5 begin March 18 at Best Buy

0

Starting March 18, Best Buy will begin pre-orders of the LG G5, which will be shipped out in April. There’s no information on pricing yet, but it’s likely that Best Buy will update its information as the date gets closer.

As you know (or maybe you don’t) LG’s newest flagship device was first announced at Mobile World Congress last month. The G5 main premise is its modularity; users can hot swap the battery as they please, as well as adding new speakers or a camera mount on the fly. The phone is complemented by a group of other devices referred to as LG Friends.

[graphiq id=”gdKknATxuBf” title=”LG G5″ width=”600″ height=”727″ url=”https://w.graphiq.com/w/gdKknATxuBf” link=”http://smartphones.specout.com/l/5086/LG-G5″ link_text=”LG G5 | SpecOut”]

The Friends include a 360-degree camera, a robotic companion that also acts as a camera/video recorder, and a VR headset.

Operation Zombie D Unlimited is an all-too-simple side-scrolling shooter (review)

Overview

Picture a zombie game. Simple, right? I bet you’re thinking of being armed with several weapons, trying to make your way through a devastated landscape, hacking and blasting your way through a seemingly never-ending horde of un-dead. I also bet your thinking of a very tense game, fraught with edge-of-your-seat suspense and surprise action.

With some (maybe most) zombie games, that’s exactly what you get. With Operation Zombie D Unlimited, by the developer Race and Shoot, you only get part of this package….mostly the shooting untold numbers of zombies.

Zombie2Setup

Easy enough: Download from the Play Store. There is no connection to Google Play Games, no other manual set up.  In fact, you don’t even have to hit ‘start’ or any other button. Tapping the app icon automatically launches you into the game, with a big ‘Select Weapon to Start’ message across the center of your display. This is not obvious at first; it looks like an animated start screen, with zombies moving from right to left. But in fact these are the first zombies you will encounter, and the longer you wait to select your weapon (which are always displayed across the top of the screen), the closer these zombies will be to you when you actually get going.

Screenshot_2016-03-07-23-40-23

Gameplay

Once you select  your weapon (likely after dying a couple of times first before even starting, by allowing the zombies to cross the screen), you are launched into actual gameplay. You play the lone survivor, and your mission is to side-scroll across the display from left to right.  Points are scored by distance covered; shooting the zombies grants you nothing but living long enough to shoot more.

On the screen you have a ‘move’ button on the left, and a couple of shooting buttons on the right. As mentioned before, across the top are your weapons to select from and an ammo level indicator. There are 5 ‘basic’ weapons, ranging from pistols to machine guns. Each of these comes with unlimited/infinity ammo. The one “premium” weapon is the shotgun.  ou start with 16 shots, but can collect more as you make your way through the game. One ‘shoot’ button is for any of the basic weapons, and the other is strictly for the shotgun. Apparently there are more “special” weapons throughout the game, but I went quite a ways and never did find any.

Here’s where the trouble with the game starts. I quickly found that by choosing the machine gun (the one with the fastest fire rate and unlimited ammo), I can simply hold down the fire button and mow down the oncoming zombies until the screen is cleared. The zombies slowly make their way from right to left, towards your avatar. But by pressing the ‘move’ button, your avatar moves to the right and the zombies slow their progress, until you release the button; they then continue their advance.

So getting through this game is simply a matter of:

  1. Select machine gun; hold down ‘shoot’ until screen is cleared.
  2. Press ‘move’ until the next wave of zombies gets relatively close.
  3. Repeat step 1.

At no point did I need the “special” weapon of the shotgun or any other one that is supposedly available. At multiple points along my trek there are spinning ammo symbols that, when collected, give you 10 more shotgun shells. By the time I quit the game I had almost 200 shells and never did use them. Even when harder-to-kill zombies (I’m calling them “fat alberts”) announced their advance with an off-screen growl, I didn’t need to alter my shoot-then-move-then-shoot again strategy.

After 20 minutes, I honestly grew bored. The gameplay never changed. Re-read the last couple of paragraphs and you’ve played this game.  While I do believe that is the intent of this game: something very easy to pick up and blast zombies with, the result is simply monotonous.

Summary

One more time: re-read the last couple of paragraphs, and you’ve played this game. While it does have kind of a cool silhouette-only graphic set, there really is no challenge once you ascertain this pattern.

iClever has the best chargers for your devices (review)

With more of our lives running on batteries each day, we are having to charge more devices than ever. The majority of people at least have two devices that they are charging each day such as a phone and a tablet. Others among us may also have Bluetooth speakers and headphones, smartwatches, and cameras that need to be charged every few days. While many of these devices come with their own cables and wall chargers, each one means a separate plug has to be taken up.

Thankfully, the folks over at iClever have all of us covered with its multi-port wall chargers that consolidate several devices to a single power outlet. If you aren’t familiar with iClever, they make some of the highest rated, best selling wall chargers on Amazon. Today, we are looking at three of its most popular wall chargers – two multi-port chargers and one with QuickCharge 3.0.

[spacer color=”264C84″ icon=”fa-android”]

Dual-port USB wall charger

The first charger we’re taking a look at is the dual-port wall charger which allows you to charge two devices simultaneously. This charger feels well built and solid which gives me comfort about being able to throw in into a bag for travel and not breaking it. The wall plug is on one side of the charger with the ports directly opposite, and while this design does work for most cases, it can cause the charger to become cumbersome when devices are plugged in.

If you are planning on plugging this charger in behind a couch or something similar, be prepared to have it stick several inches out from the wall. I would prefer to have the ports on the bottom of the charger so that it would protrude less; however, this will only be a problem when using it behind furniture.

iClever 2-port wall charger 3

This charger comes with SmartID technology which ensures that each device plugged in is getting the maximum amount of power it can. When you plug in your phone or smartwatch or other device, SmartID detects the fastest charging speed your device can handle and provides that speed up to 2.4A per port. This means that you will not have to worry about one device charging slower when you plug another one in. I have been using this charger by my desk to charge my Sony A6000 and Asus Zenwatch 2, and I have been constantly pleased with the performance. You can get the iClever dual-port charger from Amazon for less than $11!

3-port USB wall charger

Next, we have a charger for those of you with even more devices that are demanding some juice. The design and build quality praise of the previous charger is no different here with a nice feel and sturdy construction. However, the port placement is still the same which makes the charger stick out quite far from the wall. SmartID technology is included in this charger, as well. Each port supports charging up to 2.4A which makes for speedy charging of most devices.

iClever 3-port wall charger 2

I personally have my Nexus 6, Moto 360, and Bluebuds X plugged into this charger, and these are devices which I use everyday. This is where I most noticed the SmartID technology since my Nexus 6 charged much faster than it would were it not receiving its maximum power. It is not QuickCharge, of course, but it is still plenty fast enough for me. You can grab the iClever 3-port charger from Amazon for $17!

QuickCharge 3.0 wall charger

Speaking of QuickCharge, iClever recently released its newest charger which comes with QuickCharge 3.0, the lasted version of Qualcomm’s speedy charging technology. Unfortunately, I do not have any devices that support QuickCharge 3.0 so I could not enjoy the full power of this charger, but my Nexus 6 did experience the still fast charging speeds of antiquated QuickCharge 2.0.

iClever QuickCharge wall charger 2

This brings up the important point that this charger will also work with devices that do not support QuickCharge 3.0, and it will charge those devices at the fastest rate they allow. As with the rest of iClever’s chargers, build quality and design remain as amazing as ever, but the port placement could again be improved. You can pick up the iClever QuickCharge 3.0 charger from Amazon for less than $17!

[spacer color=”264C84″ icon=”fa-android”]

When it comes to wall chargers, these three from iClever are the best ones I have ever used. Aside from the less-than-ideal port placement, these charges are about as perfect as you’ll find anywhere. If you are someone who has a ton of devices that need charging or are just looking for a spare wall charger to keep in your car or bag for travelling, you shouldn’t look any further than the ones from iClever. Combine the quality, number of ports, and charging speed with the face that each of these chargers is under $20, and you have a deal that cannot be passed up.

Dulp – arcade/puzzle action in a simple package [Review]

Overview

Dulp is an arcade/puzzle game that has you launching colored orbs into a multi-colored spinning ring. Your goal is to eliminate all of the ring’s colored segments by hitting them with an orb of the same color.

Developer: Nexx Studio

Price: Free (ad supported, in-app purchases)

Highlights

  • Simple to play
  • Challenging
  • Google Play Games support

Setup

Dulp requires no setup. Download it from the Google Play Store and you’re ready to go!

Impressions

First and foremost, Dulp is deceptively simple. On your screen you will see small, colored orbs. Above those orbs you will see a spinning ring made up of  segments of varying sizes and color. Your job is to launch each of your colored orbs into its corresponding color segment on the ring. When you accomplish this, that colored segment will disappear. You repeat this process until you have eliminated all of the ring’s segments.

Sounds simple enough, right? Dulp’s genius begins to shine with each passing level gradually increasing in difficulty. The changes are subtle, but effective. First, you’ll start seeing bigger rings. After that, you’ll start seeing rings that spin faster. Then, you’ll start seeing two spinning rings, one within the other. As if that’s not scary enough, those two rings will begin to spin faster with each passing level, and the number of colored segments they contain will increase in number and vary even further in size.

[row][double_paragraph]

Level 1
Level 1

[/double_paragraph][double_paragraph]

Level 10
Level 10

[/double_paragraph] [/row]

To make matters worse, you are not able to choose the order your colored orbs appear in. This is where the puzzle element comes in. Because the rings in any given level will have segments that are the same color; and because those segments will vary in size, you will have to really think and strategize about which segment you choose to hit first because that decision may determine whether or not you can hit a segment on the inner ring. By level 13, I was ready to pull my hair out; metaphorically of course. Did I mention that Dulp has 200 levels?

Dulp not only plays great, but it also looks and sounds great. The game’s graphics are simple and colorful, and they lend themselves well to the theme of simplicity. Dulp features very few sound effects and its one music track reminds me of something you might hear in a quiz gameshow. This is not a bad thing. All of these elements blend well together and help Dulp feel like a complete package that accomplishes what it was intended to.

I have only one complaint about Dulp: the ads. There is an always present banner ad at the bottom of the screen that never disappears while playing the game. To complement the banner ad, you will also see full page ads randomly Screenshot_2016-03-07-20-12-58displayed between levels. The full pages ads vary between static and video. Thankfully, Dulp is fun enough and challenging enough that the ads are worth putting up with. You also have the option to spend $1.99 to eliminate the ads altogether (and also, apparently, increase the game’s performance).

Conclusion

Dulp is a solid game that packs a lot of challenge into a small, simple package. Nexx Studio was able to seamlessly blend various elements of a simplistic nature that, together, create a product that feels complete and satisfyingly complex.

Dulp feels like a game that was intended to be simple, yet challenging, and every element of this game lends itself quite well to that design. Even with its obtrusive ads, Dulp is so fun and so challenging that it is quite easy to overlook them.  Give Dulp a try. I think you’ll like it.

Here’s how to turn your computer into a Chromebook

2

Have an old computer or laptop lying around deep inside your attic? Perhaps you don’t give it much thought, or maybe you were too confused and taunted by Linux’s confusing installation to breathe new life into it the traditional way. Why not have a little fun, resurrect it and turn it into a Chromebook?

A Chromebook is a computer that runs Google’s home brewed Chrome operating system. Available on its budget-oriented Chromebooks, Chrome OS is built and designed to be used on cheaper hardware meant for lighter productivity. This makes it ideal to install and run on decrepit systems.

Technically speaking, Chrome OS is not actually available for open, public use. Its source base, Chromium OS, is however, and this is what we’ll be working with (it’s basically the same thing). Using something called ‘CloudReady’ by Neverware, the process is dead simple to turn your PC into a Chromebook.

To make it easier for you, we have drawn up a basic step-by-step guide with distinct steps that tell you exactly what’s happening, what to expect and what can happen.

But first: Take note of a few important things…

  1. Although Chrome OS is extremely light on specifications requirements, there are nevertheless some constraints and minimum specs which must be met. As a rule of thumb, it should work on most computers made since 2007. There is a largely incomplete supported devices list that can be found over here. If you are unsure if it will run, it is safe to attempt installing it.
  2. This is not the exact same perfect copy of Chrome OS you’ll find on a Chromebook. It does not support automatic updates or have any official support, nor does it come with Flash. It is however a legit version and will not spy on you nor steal your data (and you can install Flash later on).
  3. The installation process may wipe your data. Although you get to choose whether you’d like it to delete all the existing data on your hard drive or install it as a dual-boot, no one can guarantee that everything will work according to plan. In other words, it is probably not a good idea to try this on your work computer.

download (2)

What you’ll need:

  • An 8GB or 16GB memory stick. This has to be either 8GB or 16GB. No more, no less. Neverware does not elaborate why it has to be these specific ones, but warns that it may not work properly if not adhered to.
  • The CloudReady file. This is basically the Chromebook software that will be installed. Do not try to open it once installed. Download link here.
  • The Chromebook Recovery Tool. This is used to transform your memory stick into a working, bootable installer. Download link here.

If possible, you should download and prepare these files on another computer that you are not converting, just so you have a backup machine to fix the broken machine if something goes wrong.  Just keep in mind that it’s highly unlikely that anything will go awry.

download (2)

Once you’ve downloaded everything, you are ready to roll. You’ll now need to create the installation USB stick that basically takes the downloaded software and installs it onto your PC of choice.

  1. Launch the Chromebook Recovery Utility that you downloaded
  2. Select “Use local image.”
  3. Choose the CloudReady .bin file you downloaded from Neverware.
  4. Insert the 8GB or 16GB USB stick into your computer.
  5. Select your USB stick on the left side of the Chrome Recovery Utility app screen
  6. Click “Continue” and “Create Now” to create your USB installation stick.

Once completed, this USB stick can be used infinitely to install Chrome OS on computers.

For the next part, you are required to power down the PC getting Chrome OS, plug the USB in and start it back up.

This is where it gets a tad complicated.

You need to ensure that USB Booting is switched on in the BIOS menu so that your computer can accept the USB while starting up. Because of the countless computer models, there is no fixed way of accessing the BIOS menu to enable USB booting. I highly suggest you search the Internet on how to access the BIOS menu of your specific computer.

Once you are sure USB Booting has been activated, plug the memory stick in and start the computer up. Depending on your PC, you may be asked which storage you want to boot up from or you may have to press a certain key. Like I said, do some research. Once you have booted into the USB, you can begin to play around with Chromium OS. At this point, it is not actually installed yet, it is just reading off your memory stick.

Pay close attention now.

You will now have the option to install as a standalone operating system (everything will be wiped) or as a dual-boot operating system (if you still want your existing operating system and all of its data).

For a complete clean of the hard drive and a standalone install:

  1. Click the clock in the bottom-right corner of the CloudReady live interface.
  2. In the menu that appears, click “Install CloudReady”.
  3. A window will popup with a brief description. Click “Install CloudReady” again.
  4. Here you will have the option to install via dual-boot or as a standalone. Click “Install CloudReady Standalone
  5. Wait for the installation process to finish.

After installation, your computer will run like a normal Chromebook would.

For side-by-side installation with Windows and to keep all your data (dual-boot install):

download (1)

This is slightly more complicated than the other install method. It will require you to have a UEFI version of Windows which will basically allow Windows to work with other operating systems on the hard drive. Again, you’ll have to do some research here if you aren’t sure what is cutting with your PC.

According to the Neverware website, your computer must meet the following pre-requisites:

1.  The ability to use UEFI boot mode.

2.  A preexisting UEFI-mode installation of Windows 7, 8, 8.1, or 10.  Click here for instructions on verifying whether Windows is installed in UEFI mode.

3.  At least 32 GB of available free space in the main Windows partition you want to dual-boot with.

4.  On the Windows installation you want to dual-boot with, you must make the following changes before performing a dual-boot installation of CloudReady:

a.  Turn OFF “Fast Startup” (in Windows 8 or later) by visiting “Control Panel > Power Options > Choose what the power button does > Fast Startup”

b.  Turn OFF any encryption

c. Disable hibernation

Once you are sure you have meet the requirements, insert the memory stick, boot into it and you should be on Chromium OS. Again, it is not yet installed but reading the software off the USB. In order to install it as a dual-boot and keep your Windows OS and data:

  1. Click the clock in the bottom-right corner of the CloudReady live interface.
  2. In the menu that appears, click “Install CloudReady”.
