The Galaxy S6, Galaxy S6 Edge and Galaxy S6 Edge+ are also eligible in the promotion, in case the Galaxy S7 isn’t your thing.

With the demise of the Galaxy Note7, the Galaxy S7 remains Samsung’s only premium phone this year. The handset was unveiled at MWC 2016 and comes boasting a 5.1-inch AMOLED panel with 1,440 x 2,560 pixel resolution.

The handset’s power source is a Snapdragon 820 processor working hand in hand with 4GB of RAM and either 32GB or 64GB internal storage (expandable via microSD card slot). Other specifications include a 12MP/5MP camera duo, fingerprint scanner and Android 6.0 Marshmallow out of the box.

With the Galaxy Beta Program unleashed, users with a Galaxy S7 can register to help test the latest Android 7.0 Nougat.

The NIMA Sports Bluetooth Speaker Helmet is the ultimate tech accessory for NCAA football fans

College football is one of the most popular sports in the United States. It is so popular that even the NFL owes much of its success as it laid the foundation for the talent and rules in place today. Students and graduates can develop an almost unhealthy fanaticism for their school’s team and show it in crazy ways.

I’ve come across one of the coolest wireless accessories I have reviewed in a long time, and college football fans will love it. The NIMA Sports Bluetooth Speaker Helmet.

Design

dsc06202

The NIMA Sports Bluetooth Speaker Helmet is a very unique accessory. The unit I am reviewing is a full sized helmet that looks and feels like the real thing I used when I played football. Except this one has a massive woofer built into the bottom of the helmet, with two large speakers built into the earpieces. The speakers in the ears are covered by mesh metal grilles that don’t distract from the look of the helmet.

dsc06221Controls are similar to what you would find on other large wireless speakers; there are buttons on the back of the helmet for power, Bluetooth, track and volume control. Where this speaker is more advanced is with the EQ button that changes the sound based on seven different preset settings.

dsc06161On the back is where you will also find a 3.5mm audio input jack, a full sized USB A outlet for charging your smartphone, and the power input.

There’s an eye guard behind the face mask which reminds me of former San Diego Charger, Ladanian Tomlinson, and gives the helmet a finished look. It’s a true wireless speaker with a large built-in battery that gives the helmet a good bit of heft at 14 pounds.

The helmet speaker is an officially licensed product of the NCAA and fans of Nebraska, USC, Alabama, Michigan State, UCLA, LSU, University of Florida, Auburn, Florida State, Arkansas and the University of Texas. More schools are in the works for future helmets, but are currently limited. I would guess that would have to do something with the high licensing fees these schools charge.

screen-shot-2016-11-09-at-10-16-37-pm

Specs

  • Bluetooth 4.2 EDR
  • Microphone for taking calls
  • Dimensions: 15.0in x 13.6in x 11.2in
  • Weight: 14lbs
  • Full stereo sound with dual speakers and a large subwoofer

Sound, App and Looks

First off, the look of this helmet speaker is awesome. It’s the same logo and color of the USC Trojans’ helmet, and I can imagine that other schools look spot on too. The face mask not only looks like the real deal, but it feels like it is made from real steel that is covered in plastic. It makes for a great carrying mechanism.

The sound is where the speaker excels. With a speaker on each side of the helmet and the inclusion of the down-firing subwoofer, the sound is designed to impress those even at tailgate parties. It gets very loud and can play over crowds, or in my case, really anger my neighbors.

dsc06200The sound quality is helped that by the ability to change the EQ settings to any preference your ears desire. Changing the EQ is simple to do with the seven presets through the TWS button on the back of the helmet, or you can connect through the free iOS or Android app to access the controls of the Nima helmet speaker.

img_1053

With the ability to control the EQ, the user is free to adjust the sound for ultra bass using the large subwoofer, or they can dial it back for a more balanced tone. Regardless of the EQ setting, the speaker sound fantastic sitting right up against it or even up to 20 feet away.

Summary

dsc06243

The NIMA Sports Bluetooth Speaker Helmet is one of the coolest products I have reviewed all year. It doesn’t come cheap with a price tag of $399 for the large version, but you can get the medium for $249, and the small for $149. For the ultimate college football fans, there might not be a better accessory to add to your collection of foam fingers and jerseys. It offers eight hour battery life, is extremely loud and offers customizable sound that would impress at a tailgate party, or simply look awesome in your home. This would also make for a fantastic gift for the 2016 holiday season.

CyanogenMod 14.1 based on Android 7.1 Nougat released for Nexus 6P, 5X and more

4

Good news for those of you who don’t own a Pixel or Pixel XL, but still want a taste of Android 7.1 Nougat (plus so much more). CyanogenMod team has announced it has started rolling out the official CyanogenMod 14.1 nightly builds which are based on Android 7.1.

The nightly builds will be available for a host of select devices including the Nexus 6P, Nexus 5X, Xiaomi Mi3w/Mi4, LG G3, Moto G variants, LG G4, Samsung Galaxy S5, OnePlus 3 and the ZenPhone 2.

CyanogenMod logoNaturally, more supported devices will be added in the upcoming weeks. At the moment, CyanogenMod says that some features like customization options for Themes are not available just yet, but the team is working towards re-adding them as soon as possible. Bugs are to be expected when it comes to nighlies and that’s why CyanogenMod relies on its community so much.

If you too have one of the devices mentioned above with an unlocked bootloader, you can go ahead and install CyanogenMod 14.1 on your phone. And don’t forget to report any bug if you happen to stumble upon one.

cyanogenmod-is-a-popular-romMaybe you’re not familiar with CyanogenMod. In that case we’ll tell you that CyanogenMod is one of the most well-known custom ROMs out there, serving million users in the world who like to customize their phones.

The reason why the Android community likes custom ROMs so much is because they are able to add new features, ramp up performance of their device or just change the drab stock Android look into something more exciting.  Also its pretty fun to play around with them!

Lenovo’s future smartphones will all be Moto devices

0

Lenovo purchased Motorola in 2014, but the company kept its mobile branch separate from Motorola’s. Fast forward two years later and Lenovo is finally ready to make the transition and embrace the Moto brand fully.

A new report coming out of China claims Lenovo will no longer release self-branded phones. Interestingly enough, the Lenovo Phab2 Pro – the world’s first Project Tango phone was launched a few days ago. Still the source claims that Lenovo’s upcoming phones will be marketed under the Moto brand, while the company’s PC and laptop subsidiary will remain as “Lenovo”.

motorola-moto-z-droidLenovo decision apparently rests on its Q3 unsatisfactory financial results. The company smartphone’s business (which includes the Lenovo and Moto brands) saw a huge $2 billion decrease (12%) in profits year-on year. But not all was bad, as Lenovo’s mobile business saw a 20% increase in business quarter-over-quarter.

Historically Lenovo has relied on its PC and laptop business which continue to sustain the company and this is still the case today.

Motorola Moto Z Play Droid review: An exceptional phone value that gets even better with MotoMods

The Chinese laptop-making giant is also reshuffling its staffing structure. Gina Qiao former SVP of human resources has been appointed as SVP of Lenovo Mobile Business Group and will replace Xudong Chen.

It certainly seems like Lenovo has admitted defeat, at least while the Western markets are concerned. It will be interesting to follow the evolution of the Moto brand now, especially in markets like China and Asia.

Speaking of which, Lenovo has just announced the Moto M mid-ranger in China. The phone is available for purchase for around $295 a pop.

lenovos-moto-mThe handset features water-resistant capabilities and comes with a 5.5-inch display with 1080p resolution. There’s a fingerprint sensor living below the camera sensor and an octa-core 2.2GHz MediaTek P15 chispet with Mali-T860MP2 GPU.

The phone comes packing with 4GB of RAM and 32GB of internal storage, as well as a 16MP main snapper with phase detection auto focus (PDAF) plus an 8MP selfie camera. The Moto M is kept alive by a 3,050 mAh battery and Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow ships out with the device. Sorry folks, no Android Nougat for the time being, although an update will probably come at some point.

The phone is presented in Gold and Silver color options! Who knows maybe Lenovo will bring the phone to the US at some point.

Google’s Pixel phones are having issues with LTE band 4 connectivity

0

Google’s Pixel phone duo hasn’t been out long, but select users are already experiencing some troubles when using their devices. Some Pixel owners in North and South America are complaining about unexpected connectivity issues on the LTE band 4.

The issue seems only to affect select regions and operators. For example, the folks at Android Police have discovered that T-Mobile users aren’t faced with this problem. However, users in some areas of North or South America who only rely on LTE band 4 for connectivity are finding they are unable to connect.

the-pixel-xl-out-and-aboutAnnoyed users have taken to the Google Product Forums to complain about their troubles. International users from across the globe have joined in to share their negative LTE connectivity experiences, albeit on other bands. The LTE band 4 seems to be the most common source of the complaint.

For the time being, the problem causing these issues remains unknown. However, a user who apparently contacted a Support representative to complain, claims he was told Google is aware of the issue and is working on a software update to fix everything.

Check out these 10 awesome cases and screen protectors for the Google Pixel and Pixel XL

The information should be taken with a grain of salt, given that Google hasn’t made any official statements on the matter, just yet.

It’s not the first issue to be plaguing the Pixels we’ve heard of recently. Remember a lot of folks have been complaining about the phone’s camera creating a halo effect when snapping photographs.

Google is also said to be hard at work on a software fix, meant to put the mind of photo enthusiasts at ease.

Are you seeing any LTE band 4 connectivity problems on your Pixel or Pixel XL?

OnePlus 3T with Snapdragon 821, Android 7.0 Nougat coming November 15

1

The OnePlus 3T has been rumored for quite some time now. The device is expected to be the answer to OnePlus’ AMOLED shortage problems because it uses a LCD display instead.

Qualcomm already confirmed a Snapdragon 821-fueld OnePlus device was incoming and this week OnePlus itself teased fans on Twitter by saying the “Snapdragon 821 is coming your way. Find out more on November 15.” Which pretty much means we’re going to see the phone make an official debut on the said date.

The company doesn’t say anything else about the upcoming smartphone, but it is pretty evident that the handset isn’t far from being released.

Word on the street has it the new OnePlus 3T will make a debut into the wild with a 5.5-inch display with 1080p resolution, pretty much like the current OnePlus 3. But a Snapdragon 821 clocked at 2.35GHz will be doing the heavy lifting under the hood, not the Snapdragon 820. Apart from providing extra computing power, the presence of the new chipset will help deliver improved battery life.

never-settle-logo OnePlus will also be throwing in 6G of RAM in combination with 64GB or 128GB of internal storage. A better 16MP camera with Sony IMX389 sensor should also make it onboard. Android 7.0 Nougat will be the operating system du-jour.

All these improvements are expected to add an extra $80 to the price tag. The OnePlus 3 is currently available for $400.

As we expect to see the OnePlus 3T arrive, let us remind you the OnePlus 4 has also made an appearance in the rumor mill as of late. The device is tipped to arrive with a next-gen Snapdragon 830 sometime in June or July.
