TCL has officially brought its new QM9K series television to the U.S., now available at Best Buy in sizes ranging from 65 inches up to a wall-dominating 98 inches. Positioned as the flagship of TCL’s Ultimate Series, the QM9K is being pitched as the brand’s most advanced TV yet, combining cutting-edge display tech with smarter software integrations.
A New Standard in Picture Performance
At the heart of the QM9K is TCL’s Halo Control System, which delivers more precise local dimming zones and higher peak brightness than any of the company’s previous models. TCL claims this results in superior contrast, deeper blacks, and improved overall image accuracy that rivals OLED displays, without the trade-offs in brightness.
The set also incorporates a CrystGlow WHVA panel for ultra-wide viewing angles, along with the brand’s ZeroBorder design, which minimizes bezels for an edge-to-edge experience. A 23-bit Backlight Controller drives over 65,000 levels of brightness per LED, helping to smooth out grayscale performance for more lifelike visuals.
First with Gemini on Google TV
The QM9K is the first television to ship with Google Gemini built directly into Google TV. More than just another voice assistant, Gemini is designed to handle conversational queries and follow-up questions with context, making the interaction feel more natural.
Through Google TV’s Ambient Display, the QM9K can wake on presence detection, cycle through high-resolution screensavers, control playback, or respond to questions at the sound of a voice. TCL says this marks a new milestone in what it calls “interactive TV,” blending its display technology with smarter, more responsive AI tools.
Ultimate Series: QM8K and QM9K
The QM9K sits at the top of TCL’s Ultimate Series, joined by the QM8K. Both models feature the company’s four “Ultimate Technology Advantages”: the CrystGlow WHVA panel, ZeroBorder edge-to-edge design, Halo Control dimming system, and built-in Gemini integration.
Together, the Ultimate Series is meant to set a performance benchmark for the QD-Mini LED category, balancing hardware enhancements with smarter, more intuitive software.
