PreEvnt’s isaac Redefines Glucose Monitoring, One Breath at a Time

PreEvnt, a subsidiary of SCOSCHE Industries, has announced the upcoming debut of isaac by PreEvnt, a non-invasive blood glucose alert device, at CES 2025 in Las Vegas. This innovative device provides a breath-based method for monitoring blood glucose levels, aimed at individuals managing Type 1 and Type 2 diabetes, prediabetes, or those tracking metabolic health.

The isaac device is compact and wearable, making it easy to integrate into daily life. Whether clipped to a pocket or worn on a lanyard, the device uses patented gas sensing technology to analyze volatile organic compounds (VOCs) in the user’s breath. This eliminates or reduces the need for traditional finger-prick blood tests. Real-time readings, paired with a custom app available for iOS and Android, offer users actionable insights and alerts to help manage glucose levels effectively.

The device’s inventor, Bud Wilcox, was inspired by his grandson Isaac, who was diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes at just two years old. Wilcox aimed to create a solution that would reduce the burden of frequent finger pricks while still delivering accurate and timely glucose monitoring.

“Our goal with isaac is to provide a non-invasive way to monitor glucose levels in real time, giving diabetics and their caregivers the ability to take timely action and prevent severe complications,” Wilcox explained.

A Science-Driven Approach

Developed over five years in partnership with Indiana University under the guidance of Dr. M. Agarwal, isaac employs selective MOx gas sensing technology developed by Nanoz. By identifying VOCs, particularly acetone, in exhaled breath, the device mimics the capabilities of diabetes alert dogs. This innovative approach provides a reliable and portable alternative to traditional monitoring methods.

Dr. Agarwal highlighted the groundbreaking nature of this technology: “By identifying and analyzing the VOCs in breath, we can develop sensors that provide early and accurate detection of glycemic conditions. This technology offers a non-invasive and reliable monitoring solution.”

The accompanying smartphone app enhances the device’s functionality, allowing users to log readings, track trends, and share reports with family members or healthcare providers. Customizable notifications and real-time alerts help users stay on top of their glucose levels, while the rechargeable device can handle multiple breath tests on a single charge.
