Google is officially rolling out Search Live, a new feature in the Google app that allows users to interact with Search in real time using both voice and video. Starting today, the feature is available in English across the U.S. without requiring a Labs opt-in.
With Search Live, users can start an interactive conversation in AI Mode while sharing their phone’s camera feed. This combination gives Search the ability to “see “what the camera sees, provide spoken answers, and serve up relevant links for deeper context.
How It Works
To get started, open the Google app on Android or iOS and tap the new Live icon located under the search bar. From there, you can speak your questions out loud and, if desired, share visual context by enabling the camera.
For those already using Google Lens, a new Live option appears at the bottom of the screen. Turning it on automatically activates camera sharing, so users can get immediate back-and-forth help with whatever is in front of them.
Five Everyday Uses for Search Live
Google highlights a range of scenarios where Search Live could be particularly useful:
- Explore while traveling: Ask questions about neighborhoods or landmarks without pausing your day.
- Pick up a hobby: Point your camera at new equipment, like a matcha set, and learn what each tool does or what ingredients can be substituted.
- Troubleshoot electronics: Use your camera to show cables, remotes, or components and ask which piece goes where.
- Support school projects: Enhance at-home science experiments by asking Search to explain what’s happening in real time.
- Simplify game night: Scan multiple board games at once and get advice on which would be best for your group.
Availability
Search Live is available now for U.S. users in English through the Google app on both Android and iOS. The update builds on Google’s ongoing push to integrate AI-driven interactions into everyday search habits, making it easier to get answers quickly and naturally.
More information and examples of Search Live in action can be found on the official Google blog.
