BITS & BYTES: Motorola

Written by AndroidGuys • Jul 16th, 2008 • Category: Bits & Bytes, Hardware News, Recent News

How about a quick rundown of some recent Motorola news?  Rather than dedicate individual posts to somewhat related news, we figured it would be better received if we dropped a quick recap of some otherwise newsworthy stuff.  Here’s a few things going on in the Motorola camp to catch up on…

ROKR E8 reviews are coming in and here’s a sample: “If you’re in the market for a music playing phone and have little to no interest in browsing the Web on your mobile then we gladly recommend the E8. It looks superb, the music player coupled with the internal storage is great, and the camera is more than adequate for most regular situations.” - ZDNet

Here we go again. There’s yet another RAZR coming.  But wait, this one is Ferrari styled! Our take on this one - Put the entire RAZR series to bed.  NOW.  The only people buying luxury handsets like this are probably Ferrari owners and idiots with more money than brains.

One analyst puts Motorola’s mobile handset division worth $500 million. Seems like quite a bit, until you realize that the same guy had them worth $8 billion less than one year ago.  OUCH!

No Mo’ MOTO.  Now, it’s “We Generation” from Motorola.  Let’s hope this is the start of something new from them and it quickly moves to distance themselves from the last few years.  Aren’t we already living in the Wii Generation though?

Your Turn

Is there something else we missed?  Let’s here what you have to say about Motorola in the comments.

  1. Sad, I am old enough to remember the “future shock” Moto used to induce in people with its ultra-modern, “from the future” products, all through the 90s one awesome handset after another.

But I am not a Moto apologist, they know how competitive the electronics market is and the rested on their laurels, and lost. Plenty of smart people still work there, but the retarded upper management is the problem. My expectations are low, by there’s still a chance something insanely great could come from the big M’s laboratory…all black, machined aluminum, high res touch screen, impossibly thin and powered by Android.

  2. Motorola have licensed TAT’s Cascades UI for their Android phone. I was very impressed by it, till I saw the magnificent UI in the Google I/O… and ever since we’ve heard absolutely nothing…
