China Mobile, one of the 7 mobile operator members of the Open Handset Alliance and the world’s largest mobile operator, has announced that it wants to have it’s 4G network ready by 2010. China Mobile’s network will be based on the Time Division Duplex Of Long Term Evolution technology (TDD-LTE), which is a further development of China’s 3G Time Division Synchronous Code Division Multiple Access (TD-SCDMA) standard.

Apart from being a member of the Open Handset Alliance, China Mobile is a member of LTE/SAE Trial Initiative and will be starting several trials of the 4G technology next year.

  1. Who comes up with up with those names and acronyms for these technologies. TD-SCDMA and TDD-LTE….

  2. Helmore, I agree! The Chinese have a thing for long, complicated acronyms - sadly. Maybe one of the reasons that the technology being developed over there, some of which is actually amazingly good and promising, is having a hard time being adopted over here ;-)
