Even the mighty Carl Icahn was not able to salvage a deal between Microsoft and Yahoo. Apparently talks died on June 8th when Microsoft said it had no intentions to purchase Yahoo in its entirety. Instead, Microsoft wanted to purchase Yahoo’s search business, but such a move would have essentially left Yahoo naked. Had Yahoo sold their search business all that would have remained would be shell of a company that would eventually die.

Microsoft says the deal is still on the table, but for all intents and purposes this deal is dead.
