Sprint Answers Apple With $199 Samsung Instinct

Here comes the great price war of 2008! Actually, it’s the second price war of the year. We can’t forget the unlimited rate plans being offered by the major players.
It’s being reported tonight that Sprint will be offering the Samsung Instinct for $199.99 after a pair of rebates. This puts it right on pace with the iPhone 3G, making either device an incredible buy.
The initial full retail price of the phone will cost $449.99. There will be a $150 instant rebate with new two-year agreements (standard for most Sprint devices). Sprint will add on top of that, a $100 mail-in rebate specifically for Instinct. Combining both rebates, the final price of Instinct will be $199.99. That is the same price as iPhone 3G, taking into account the two-year agreement on both carriers.
Sprint is also doing something slightly different for consumers by letting them know it’s available for full retail price an option without renewing any contracts. How many people will be paying $450 for a phone is beyond us. With so many people leaving Sprint over the last few quarters, it’s tough to forecast who would be willing to climb back into bed with a 2-year contract.

I think sprint really screwed up. I have been with sprint for about 5 years, I like the service but the phones have been sub par. I thought sprint was going to do this correctly. Low price without rebates, like Iphone, but no they may dropped the ball. I currently use the sprint everything plan $99.99 and was looking forward to the instinct, but I will not wait for rebates because I never receive them from sprint. I will talk to the retention center for sprint and see if I can skip the rebate. We will see, if not I may switch to Iphone
I’ve heard the Instinct will require all buyers to pair it with the Sprint Unlimited ($99) contract because they claim you need unlimited data service. Now this may make sense for some but I’m on the Sprint SERO plan and pay $30 / month for 500 min and unlimited data. Can anyone confirm if this is true? I’ve talked to Sprint reps about 4 different occasions now and thats what they are saying. If thats the case I’m leaving Sprint and going to ATT for the Iphone. I’ve been waiting for an Iphone type phone from Sprint since the Iphone came out and it looks like this may be the one. Only thing that Iphone 2 will have on this phone is the SDK and open programming.
i cant work to get the new samsung instinct…..only 200 come on now….thats a good deal….im gettin one

Sprint just lost me. I’ve been a customer for 8 years. Now way am I going to go the mail in rebate route. You never get it voluntarily and have to battle an army of phone reps for any chance at receiving it. This phone really caught my attention (some of the features are great) but the iPhone 3G just makes more sense. With Sprint you are forced into the $99.99 everything plan. I can go with $69.99 iPhone base plan and be just as happy. Plus the new software support for iPhone destroys Instinct. A year late Sprint. It’s been fun but I’m going to AT&T.
It’s a good deal for a new customer. $449 for current is alot.
Maybe Sprint / Samsung should call it iFail or iFlop…
Sprint overcharged my small (US) company for over $50,000.00. We caught them doing it and now they refuse to refund the over-payments. You can read the full story at http://www.sprint-really-sucks.com
I also wrote an open letter to Dan Hesse the Chairman and CEO of Sprint Nextel. It is a good read so please consider reading the letter.

For all of you who think the $99.99 Simply Everything plan costs too much, Sprint also has the Simply Everything plan with limited minutes ($69.99 for 450 minutes, $89.99(?) for 900 minutes).
I have been with Spint for a long time and like their service but how about a good deal for loyal long time customers. I refuse to pay $450 for this phone.
I am also a current sprint customer and will probably get this phone but i will not be paying $450USD for it, if you call them and say its not fair to pay that much and your considering defecting to a rival like AT&T they will more than likely make a deal with you especially if you have a good history with them.
Sprint Stinks!!! I’ve been waiting for the Instinct for a long time but $449 is way too much for a loyal, long time customer to pay. I’m going to AT&T.
BYE SPRINT!!! This is the thanks we get for being with you so long? An outragous 449.00 for the new Instinct? I can cancel my current contract with Sprint, pay the fees, and sign up with AT&T for a new Iphone and still pay less then that! See ya…
yesterday i talked to a sprint sales rep that told me that the phone would b $199 b4 any rebates im not sure if he knew what he was talkin about (but he sounded like he did)
Dont bother with the Instinct….IT STINKS! Sumsung phones suck! No reception in my house….volume doesnt got loud enough….it could have an LED light to let you know you missed a call or message so you dont have to turn phone on and check! Other than that…I would have kep mine…but it’s going back!
If your thinking about getting one … please check it out completely before you buy!
The instinct ROCKS!!!!!! hands down the best phone I have used to date……very easy and pleasant to use…what a JOY! Thank you Samsung
