Intel and Wind River entered into an agreement on Thursday to collaborate in the development of a Linux platform to be used in Mobile Internet Devices or MIDs.  These MIDs would be optimized to run on Intel’s Centrino Atom processor and is expected to be available some time in 2009 according to an article on RTT News.  Both companies are very smart to jump into this wide open market.  Regardless of what capabilities cell phones develop over the next few years there’s still a budding interest in MIDs as their large touch screens are ideal for web browsing on the go.

Our only hope is that they develop some of these devices to run on existing cell phone networks as well as WiFi and WiMax.  By cutting the invisible WiFi leash it would make the devices much more flexible and desirable to the public.  We believe this has affected the growth of Nokia’s line of internet tablets.  You can read the complete article here.
