Written by AndroidGuys • May 14th, 2008 • Category: Developer Challenge News, Developer News, Recent News

Now that there are 46 known winners from the first round of the Android Developers Challenge, we have a definite idea as to what potential exists for the platform. We can’t imagine what some of these will look like or how they’ll operate with more time and money given to the cause. AndroidGuys is here to provide you readers with a little bit more detail than just names and developers. We’re going to do our best to give you a few extra tidbits so you get a better feel for what’s in store.

Application Name: Teradesk
Developer:José Augusto Ferrarini

Website: http://teradesk.com

What they say: Teradesk is a client/server file virtualization tool for Android mobile phones, computers, desktops and other devices. The idea is to keep users’ crucial data always safe and available without been physically present in local file systems. Teradesk for Android features sharing, collaboration, remote access, file synchronization, online storage and some other great things.
What we say: Why bother loading your phone up with a memory card full of clutter?  Use this program to access and share your files.  Feel comforted knowing that your data is only a few touches away.  Simple, clean, and intuitive looking.

Application Name: TuneWiki
Developer: TuneWiki Inc.
Website: http://www.tunewiki.com/
What they say: An application that downloads songs lyrics from the web and shows them synched with the song in real time, karaoke-style. Community based: users, from an Android phone, can sync the music to the lyrics, add, edit, share, vote and translate lyrics and subtitles. Location based: supply community information relevant to the location: who is playing which music next to you, people in the world that play the same music as you do, and allow you to communicate and share with like - mind music lovers and with your social network.
What we say: Already a popular application for the iPhone, this one will likely find its way into your handset at some point. Whether it wins the next round is not up to us, but we’d say this one has to be a serious contender. Who isn’t a fan of music in some form or another?

Application Name: Wikitude-the Mobile Travel Guide
Developer: Philipp Breuss
Website: http://www.wikitude.org/
What they say: Wikitude.org takes advantage of geographical information contained in Wikipedia articles. There are about 350.000 Wikipedia POIs to download, split up in many categories and more than 10.000 POI files. If you love your GPS Navigation system, you may pimp it up by adding POI files, like castles, national parks, caves, or even sunk submarines, or one of the other POI files.
What we say: Harnessing the power of Wikipedia, this app ought to get some serious traction. By now, everyone is familiar with the online reference source, so why not take advantage of it and mobilize it in ways not thought of? Ideal application for vacations and sight-seeing. Can’t wait to see all the points of interest close to home!

Application Name: Writing Pad
Developer: ShapeWriter Inc
Website: http://www.shapewriter.com/
What they say: ShapeWriter™ makes using touch-screen devices easier, faster and more enjoyable than ever before. Ideally suited for touch-screen devices such as mobile phones, handhelds and tablet computers, ShapeWriter’s cutting-edge text input technology helps manufacturers of these devices create the most innovative new products for consumers.
What we say: We’ve never seen anything like this before. Either this will be the easiest way to write on a mobile device or it will be the most akward. Our money is on the easiest since it’s a semi-finalist. Whatever is under the hood must be incredibly smart!

We’d love to see more on the following programs: TalkPlay and whatever it is The Weather Channel is working on.

If one of these programs are yours, we want to hear from you! Email us at androidguys @ gmail.com and let us know more about your entry! Check back often as we’ll be updating these as we gather information.
