A Closer Look at the First Round Winners: J-M
Written by AndroidGuys • May 14th, 2008 • Category: Carrier News, Developer Challenge News, Recent NewsNow that there are 46 known winners from the first round of the Android Developers Challenge, we have a definite idea as to what potential exists for the platform. We can’t imagine what some of these will look like or how they’ll operate with more time and money given to the cause. AndroidGuys is here to provide you readers with a little bit more detail than just names and developers. We’re going to do our best to give you a few extra tidbits so you get a better feel for what’s in store.
Application Name: JOYity
Developer: Zelfi AG
Website: http://www.joyity.com/
What they say: The website seems like a riddle at this point, perhaps it is some viral marketing deal. Maybe it’s not even related, we can’t tell.
What we say: The only thing we’d say at this point is that you’re better off getting a feel for what they do by checking out http://www.zelfi.com/en/ instead.
Application Name: LifeAware
Developer: Gregory Moore, Aaron L. Obrien, Jawad Akhtar
Website: http://lifeaware.net/
What they say: Life Aware was formed to help people be aware of where their friends and family are. A quick search on the Internet shows that approximately 700,000 children are classified as missing annually. Our intent with Life Aware is to help you be aware of where
What we say: This sounds like one of those programs where you’ll be able to keep an eye on all the members of your family by way of your Android handsets. Perhaps a geolocation application?
Application Name: Locale
Developer: Clare Bayley, Christina Wright, Jasper Lin, Carter Jernigan
Website:
What they say: Locale is a dynamic settings manager. You basically set up different settings for your phone based on time and location. So when you’re at home, you can automatically have all your calls forwarded to your home phone line. When you’re at work, you can have
What we say: We’ve used similar programs for other platforms and we love them. Being able to automatically adjust for you is the peace of mind our tiny brains need. No more embarassing Rick Astley ringtones at work.
Application Name: LReady Emergency Manager
Developer: Chris Hulls, Dilpreet Singh, Luis Carvalho, Phuong Nguyen
Website: http://lready.com/
What they say: Not much right now. The site has an option for beta login, but that’s about it.
What we say: It’s tough say what this one holds for us. We’re envisioning some kind of “Go here in event of emergency” or something with some vital information or contact manager.
Application Name: Marvin
Developer: Pontier Laurent
Website: http://marvin.lpontier.com/
What they say: Marvin allows you to publish and browse geo-localized objects around you. Objects can be static or move by themselves and follow you. You publish and browse where you are, based on your current location or where you virtually are on the map.
What we say: Ideal for out-of-towners and those who want to keep tabs on family and friends. Should cut down on the “Hey honey, I just wanted to see when you’ll be home” calls.
Application Name: Mobeedo
Developer: Sengaro GmbH
Website: http://mobeedo.com/
What they say: The open multi-purpose information system for the mobile age.
What we say: With the website being pretty secretive right now, we’ll have to wait until we see more.
Application Name: Multiple Facets Instant Messenger
Developer: Virgil Dobjanschi
Website: http://multiplefacets.com/
What they say: A lot - but nothing specific about their application. Website appears to be for a company that helps with development of Android and other platforms.
What we say: We’d have to see more on the Instant Messenger application before we can say much. Our guess is that it probably ties together multiple messaging clients or has a unique approach to IMs.
We’d love to see more on the following programs: Jigsaw and MyCloset.
If one of these programs are yours, we want to hear from you! Email us at androidguys @ gmail.com and let us know more about your entry! Check back often as we’ll be updating with the next few.
