Sprint Losing Customers Faster Than Ever

Written by AndroidGuys • May 12th, 2008 • Category: Carrier News, Recent News

In 2007, Sprint lost 1.2 million customers overall. Pretty bad, right? Not when you compare that to the 1.07 million defectors from the first quarter of this year alone. Here’s a quick rundown of the numbers coming out of the Sprint Nextel camp this morning:

  • Net loss expanded to $505 million (18ยข a share)
  • Net revenue declined 9% year/year
  • Sales fell 7.5 percent to $9.33 billion
  • Contract customers leaving (churn) rose to 2.45 percent

Will Sprint shed Nextel and get the proverbial monkey off of their back? With figures like these, we’re inclined to think so. After purchasing the company for $36 billion in 2005, the estimate is that it’s now only worth $5 billion. Time to sell before it drops another dollar in value.

To be fair, Dan Hesse has already committed to some major changes within the company. Letting go of 4,000 employees and closing outlets is part of the plan. Another key to their stabilizing is their Simply Everything plan which is an $89/mo unlimited talk, text, web, and more plan. And let’s not forget last week’s major announcement of the Clearwire deal with companies like Intel, Google, and Comcast chipping in.
